I’m completely heartbroken. Having lived in Florida, and knowing the feeling of complete paradise… this is shocking. I never experienced a hurricane so evil. I wish these people didn’t have to. I feel helpless. My prayers are with the people and animals suffering through this. 😔

God bless you. We will rebuild, blessings from Naples❤️🙏we love Matlacha and went there often. My father everyday, he lives just outside your area. We are thankful to be alive as well. We have a long road ahead but we’ll get through.

It's elevation is 3,2 feet above sea level.
Why was it developed to the extent it was given it's just a wide beach ?
If building back ... then authorities have to enforce 1st world building codes, no timber frames with flimsy roofing only brick and concrete with storm proof roofing. No living and sleeping area on ground level as too risky. Garages and store rooms at ground level everything else 1st floor and above.

Speaking as a person who lived in New Orleans during Katrina and Ida, you will come together, and you will rebuild. You are going to get so much love and assistance from people everywhere who just want to help you get back on your feet. Speaking from experience, I've noticed that the worst of times can bring out the very best in people. The world is praying for you, Florida!🙏🙏

A wise, old, Soviet dictator once said that, 'a single death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic.' The personal stories are painful, but 81K Floridians died from CoVid.

It's a heartbreaking situation but at the end one must think. "If i rebuild it, is it possible this destruction to happened again?". And one can build a fortress, what about the infrastructures? How to live within rubles? Where to find Water - Electricity- Doctors/Hospital- Access, supplies, e.t.c. How to live without resources? Can have a job there? The Insurance company will handle it again? How to live normally again? So many serious questions follow.

Should it be rebuilt though? I really feel for this man and all of the residents but it's a barrier island and as water levels continue to rise and resources become more scarce, it may be time to stop building and rebuilding on barrier islands and marshes. Heard an interview with a geologist who said that with the sea level rise we already have we will essentially lose 1,000 feet of ocean front everywhere.

So Sad to see this devastation but one is reminded of the parable of the man who built his house on sand. So many ignore the possible dangers and build in low lying areas and too close to the sea. I understand some cannot leave, some can rebuild if not too damaged others might be able to sell their lot and buy a home inland and be debt free? Certainly the entire 1/3 of south florida is susceptible to flooding and Jacksonville has now been hit 2X by deluge. We love Florida and hope all our friends on the west coast survived but now we will purchase further north and inland.
