Kinda sad, that after all this poor man went through, the dedication to saving a human life, which he did, his wife rejected him. To me, the husband character deserves more respect than his wife.
The very fact that she is STILL married to him could actually be pretty telling, considering how badly she clearly doesn't want to be. If you ask me, I think she wants the status. The 'position' of being married to someone of importance. When she talks to him earlier on, she says 'In their heads, that's what *my husband* is doing.' Not 'The man I love', not 'their prime minister'. 'My husband'. It seems like she is only with him for appearances, living a relatively easy life whilst being with someone she clearly despises. It wouldn't have surprised me to learn that she'd taken another lover as a side piece. Also, the PM did *not* do it to save the Princess. He knew saving her was the 'popular' reason to see it through and so said as such on the broadcast, but it's fairly clear he only went through with it because the Home Secretary lady issued a thinly veiled threat against him and his family. *That's* what she meant by 'cannot guarantee your safety'. Sure, rioters might have gone to his house if he refused and the Princess was killed, but in all likelihood the Royal Family would have had him killed if he didn't go through with it.
Yeah, the PM's wife pissed me off so much. She hates him but stayed in the marriage, probably because the public loves him and he was also likely given a great reward by the royal family. It's all about social status and appearance for her, she is a social climber and a gold-digger.
This is the most traumatising and stressful series I have ever watched. There are literally reactions of episodes I will not be able to watch when you do them because I never want to see them again. So look forward to that 😂 It is, however, an amazing show, and I look forward to watching the ones I can get through :)
The thing is, people were pressuring him to do it, as if they would themselves. The case only got this much attention because she was a princess, if it was a random unpopular person idk if they would care this much. And at the end, no one really was thinking about the princess and her life, just if he was gonna do it or not. This shows how truly sick people can be.
Me and my 25-year-old daughter last night: We’ve never seen Black Mirror, let’s binge watch it! Us 45 minutes later: Okay, let’s not binge watch Black Mirror!! Brilliantly written and acted but I definitely felt the need to launder my brain afterwards!
"That was a really tough episode to swallow". You have no idea what's coming up. One episode had me sitting in silence for like 20 minutes after it was done. Amazing show
ChrisInScotland Was it "Shut Up and Dance" with the kid and people delivering things to places and whatnot? (Trying to keep details vague for anyone who hasn't seen it). I bet it was that episode. That one "fucked me up" the most because its something that can very easily happen today.
San Junipero, and Hang the DJ are definite happy endings. There are a few episodes that some may view as a happy ending and others may not (Nosedive and Black Museum come to mind, but there may be a few others).
I saw this episode a few years ago. I was so fucking disturbed that i didnt watch any more of the show. I couldnt sleep that night cuz i was so disturbed so i started watching The Office. And that's how i got addicted to The Office.
Not long after this episode aired there was a "News" story that the then British Prime Minister David Cameron had inserted an intimate part of his anatomy in to the mouth of a dead severed pigs head as part of an initiation ceremony at University, and the reaction was that the writer of this show must have known (he says he didn't).
To be fair to him, there's no-one who says that he did - even the author of the book which that rumour came from says they don't believe it either. But I guess that's part of the point of this episode - and the 'artist' who got the PM in the episode to do it - social media can take a story like this and breath it's own sort of life into it.
There are so many stories of Tories doing perverse stuff at Eton/Oxbridge or whatever Public school/University they attended, that I'm inclined to believe that the author isn't lying about Cameron. The story about Boris Johnson being in a gang (The Bullington Club) that oozed entitlement, a superiority complex & a liking for targeting non-privileged members of the public, turned out to be true, so....
Dave F That's precisely what the writer of Black Mirror brought up in satirical comedy show. It's uncanny how similar but different the situations are. Right down to the reactions of both social media and professional news media. Absolutely mad.
Definitely enjoyed your reaction. Been waiting for someone like you to take up this challenge of watching this highly underrated series. Very enjoyable and I really appreciate your thought process!!!
So glad you're reacting to Black Mirror and Sherlock again now too! Still hoping for the day you react to The 100, but only because you're my favorite reactor and I look forward to all of your videos! It's like re-watching my favorite shows all over again :)
intresting yet wrong. Black mirror is a magical tool " black mirror is a magical and powerful scrying tool. It can bring your hidden knowledge forth, and act as a gateway to other energy plans" the mirror in the story snow white is a black mirror.
I thought it was actually more simple than that. I thought it meant when the device you are using is turned off (whether it be a phone or computer) and you're reflection comes from the black screen...Black mirror.
@@Michelle-ck9sc Ive seen an interview with Charlie Brooker, the creator of this show, and THATS the reasoning he gives behind the title of the show... So, youre right 👍🏽
I really really felt for the guy in this episode. poor guy. Also, i think he did it purely for his wife and kids. The only thing that really swayed him when she said his family might be hurt by the public if he doesn't have sexual intercourse with the pig. So at the end, it wasn't about public opinion or his reputation, it was simply being shoved into a corner and wanting to protect who you love. Overall, a good guy that didn't deserve what happened to him at all. Tragic hero.
And yet his wife is still ungrateful. She hates him, but still stayed in the marriage because she wants the status of being married to a 'hero' and the royal family likely rewarded him greatly. She's a social climber and a gold-digger.
OK so little explanation, this series is a look at the darker aspects of society, so this episode is about how the public will stoop low enough to watch anything, even something as disgusting and inhuman as a man fucking a pig. Worth keeping that in mind for future episodes to try and decipher what the "subject of the day" is :)
This is a good point that is just missing one more step. The "Black Mirror" title refers to TV, computer, smartphone, etc screens. The screens we look at on our technology are mirrors into who we are as a nation, people, or individual. The lens this show was created through shows how current or potential technology has an undercurrent of horror, or it is portrayed as a dark satire on our modern world. Fucking the pig was awful. The PMs journey was gut wrenching. The real meat of the story is the public's reaction/participation to this sick event. It was entertainment. This episode simmered in the the dark side of social media. The show goes into the darker aspects of society, but it is always an exploration of how our technology is changing us. I think it is worth highlighting the technology component.
Mr337M interesting...I always took Black Mirror to mean the show is reflecting the darker side of society back at us so we can see how we look from an "outsiders" perspective.
Mr337M Yup. It took me a few episodes to make the connection, but the title Black Mirror is indeed a play on what our electronics (tv, laptop, phone, tablets...) essentially are when they are turned off.
This week just keeps getting better!! I'm excited that you're excited about this! These kind of dilemmas and the scrutiny they put the characters under are what make this show so compelling. It peers into the darkest corners of human nature and reflects it right back at us. Randy Cooper Almost all episodes are great. Its very depressing and every episode tells a different story with a different group of characters. All take place around the near future and demonstrate the darknesses technology can bring.
I first watched this episode and had the same reaction "what in the actual fuck. .. and was so absolutely horrifyingly disgusted I couldn't bring myself to watch any others for months til my daughter finally talked me into watching White Bear...which I absolutely love. I mean I get it, I love the social commentary in this episode about what politicians will do to pacify their citizens and equally fucking gross how as citizens we watch this shit happen and even though we literally just watched him fuck a pig... still support him. But damn that was disgusting.
This episode was hilarious, disgusting and heartbreaking. He could never be intimate with his wife ever again and so he loses her obviously. If I was him I would end up in an mental institution for the rest of my life. His pride was utterly destroyed regarding his wife.
Streets of London deserted think of the stuff you could steal like an egg or a bread or 2 eggs but that's greedy and if you can't tell I'm robbing a small market place

Sophia Jerome like a proper wife...shit she doesn’t know half of what her husband had to do in order to think he saved that girl
Black mirror, twisted 60 min episodes, that shows what could happen, more or less probable...
holy shit black mirror YAS

Can't wait to see more BM reactions. Some are way better than this, some not as good but looking forward to them all.
i kid you not, this episode foretold the future, as not long after this it came out about Prime Minister David Cameron having filatio with a pig head.

Randy Cooper Almost all episodes are great. Its very depressing and every episode tells a different story with a different group of characters. All take place around the near future and demonstrate the darknesses technology can bring.
Did you recognise Lindsay Duncan who played Adelaide Brooke in the Doctor Who episode "The Waters of Mars"? :D
The Leftovers too
I first watched this episode and had the same reaction "what in the actual fuck. .. and was so absolutely horrifyingly disgusted I couldn't bring myself to watch any others for months til my daughter finally talked me into watching White Bear...which I absolutely love. I mean I get it, I love the social commentary in this episode about what politicians will do to pacify their citizens and equally fucking gross how as citizens we watch this shit happen and even though we literally just watched him fuck a pig... still support him. But damn that was disgusting.
Did they find the guy who keep napped the Princess? I do t remember if they address this, and this are stand alone stories.
he hanged himself
This episode was hilarious, disgusting and heartbreaking. He could never be intimate with his wife ever again and so he loses her obviously. If I was him I would end up in an mental institution for the rest of my life. His pride was utterly destroyed regarding his wife.
Streets of London deserted think of the stuff you could steal like an egg or a bread or 2 eggs but that's greedy and if you can't tell I'm robbing a small market place
Omfg I can't wait until you get to White Christmas and White Bear 😎
"Make sure you're protected." Well its not as if the terrorists requested it to be unprotected sex
YES YES YES YES
among all four seasons, only this episode made me sick to my stomach
