I grew up watching Friends with my mother. Back when new episodes were still coming out and up to where the show had finished and reaired episodes every day. I lost her in 2015 after she battled alzheimer for 13 years. I miss her every day and this really took me back to when she was still healthy and how reminded me about how much we'd sit on the couch and laugh our butts off to Friends. Truly loved the last line of yours and how it resonates well with me too - I still watch the show, prior netflix, I got em on DVDs and would watch binging whenever I feel down or sad - my escapism. and then netflix just made it easier for the newer gen to learn about this iconic series, how it's OUR FRIENDS. While Seinfeld was a hugely popular show and might be a better sitcom than Friends people weren't copying the haircuts from Seinfeld or mimicking the slang or putting the stars of Seinfeld on magazine covers.
It's so popular because it copied a black sitcom called "living single"and they ended that show to put friends with a all white cast and with people loved the show and the rantings came in its popular because it showed white people doing regular stuff
Living Single is good, FRIENDS 'may be' a 'rip-off' but truth hurts - FRIENDS cast and crew did so much better. Living Single lasted 5 seasons. if they were better, they had 4 seasons to prove that.
