    My Canon 60D has severe water damage from an awful incident years ago and it has nearly completely fallen, doing all sorts of crazy things on its own. Even though I may never taken the camera down myself in an attempt to repair it, I must admit that you have brought to us an incredible series of disassembling the Canon 60D camera; thank you!!!

    A little advice for those who might use this tutorial as a reference for *Canon EOS 80D* disassembly. Do not try to lift up and remove the rubber overlays on 80D using screwdriver as shown in this tutorial. On 80D these have now plastic base and are screwed from inside. There are no bolts under the rubber overlays now that hold the cover plates, so you do not really have to remove them. If you need to disassemble the 80D, first unscrew the back plate (it goes together with flip LCD on 80D), remove it, and then you can remove the front plate (be sure to unscrew the remaining three bolts on the grip side - these bolts are the only ones that hold the front plate on this side). There is one screw hidden under "80D" label. It is more convenient if you unscrew it. The label sits on glue, lift it with thin screwdriver to get to the bolt. However, if you are careful enough you can remove the front plate without unscrewing this bolt.
    Great thanks Robert for the tutorial. Really valuable job.

    I've used a lot of different tutorials over the years, but this by far was one of the best! My wife had broken the top LCD screen... but not the top glass! This made quick work of the repair and only cost me 30$. I can't Imagine what it would have cost taking it to a repair shop! This tutorial along with the screw placement guide made with repair a dream!!!
    Thank you so much and if not for men and women like you taking the time to create videos like this, many DIY projects would end in disaster!!

      Philip Kitching hey, I took the camera completely apart as he did in the video. Once you have the top unit off the LCD is held in place by 3 screws and you have one more ribbon connector to remove and the screen lifts out. There is a hook on the screen unit that latches the flash so you have to carefully work that piece out to remove the screen. Also, on the small ribbon connector you have to remove there is a black bar on the connector for the ribbon that needs to be flipped. Hope that helps a little...

    If you're like me and working on a 77D the steps are pretty similar, but note that you do NOT have to lift up any of the grip material to get at screws. There are fewer screws overall and they're all accessible by removing pieces.4
    The left plate, the one withe audio and usb input, is held with three screws under the port covers and a little bit of adhesive under the "77D" logo. Once you remove the left plate you will find that under where the "77D" logo was there is a screw for the front plate.
    The back plate and the movable lcd screen are all one piece, unlike the 60D here where the screen is attached to the body. The back plate can be removed by the three screws near the eyepiece as shown here, and all screws on the bottom of the camera.
    The front plate is similar, as noted above there is a screw under the "77D" logo, screws on the bottom of the camera, and one near the latch that holds the battery in.
    Unfortunately I could not remove the top plate to access the mode selector switch. This seems to require removing a screw near the right strap mount but it was too tight to remove without stripping it.

    Just used your print out to replace the viewfinder in a 60D. Hugely helpful having them to put the screws on. Thanks for taking the time to make them Robert Hosea. Excellent videos too, top job mate. There is one wrong screw image on the bottom though, if you havent already been told 100 times lol! Right under the lens mount. But no issue with the double sided tape. Again thank you awesome job!

    Thanks Robert for the great tutorial vids. I commend you for their clarity, and you personal response every single comment on this video.
    I have a 60D that was exposed to some salt water... just a splash from what I recall. Getting the ERR 30 message, which I haven't seen referenced in any previous comments. I have a second 60D that I purchased after the fact, so I was able to test a few things.
    What I have tested;
    - working 60D battery doesn't change ERR 30 message
    - broken 60D
    - battery works fine in working 60D
    - menus and screens work fine
    - with lens in place, camera is focusing and shutter release is triggering, mirror is moving out of the way and I believe shutter is moving
    - triggering a picture with both cameras, it appears the broken camera has a slightly slower response, not as crisp sounding.
    I know it has been a while since the last post here, so if there is any chance you can respond, I will be greatly appreciated.
    My goal would be to have the two cameras operating and thus allow much less lens swapping and allow my daughter a better experience the next friends wedding she shoots. ;-)

    Hi Robert. Thank you for you very detailed video series. After watching them, I had the confidence to strip my 60D and replace the main power board. Everything went without any drama thanks to your video.
    Initial problem - I was just getting the flashing empty battery symbol on the top screen and nothing else worked. I tried leaving it for a week to drain any memory in the system, but no difference. So eventually I purchased a new power board. Using, you A4 screw sheets and detailed videos I managed to replace the power board and yes the camera came back to life.
    However, upon further testing, I now have a different problem. When I turn on the power button the screen works and I can view the menu options on the colour screen. When I take a test picture it only records a black solid image this is previewed on the screen and recorded to the memory card. When I take out the card and view it on my computer it displays as a solid black image. However, when I put the card back into the camera I can see previously recorded images properly on the screen next to the black solid images.
    I am sure that I reconnected every cable during assembly properly, but can you suggest which cables might be the cause for this problem? Or is it likely to be a sensor problem? Or maybe I had this problem as well as the main power board problem at the start?
    I hope you can advise me what to do next.
    Many thanks again TC.

      Hi Tim.
      First off, congratulations on replacing the power board and getting it back to where it is now. Even if only partially working you're heading in the right direction.
      Yes, it's possible that there may have been something else wrong first, and that could have been what caused the damage to the power board. But let's double check a couple of things first.
      When you take a picture, which ends up saving just a black image, are you seeing just a black screen on the LCD display at that time, or is the LCD display correctly showing you what you want to take a picture of? If the LCD display is not black and it's correctly showing you something, then that would rule out the CCD and it's circuitry. And that would point more to a problem with the SD card. Did you remove the SD card board when you replaced the power board? If so that would be a good place to double check the connections again. If the connections look good it may mean the SD card circuit board is bad.
      If you are seeing a black screen on the LCD display while you are taking a picture, then that would be something entirely different, and it could possibly be that the CCD or it's circuit board is bad. Or, it could be the main circuit board. It's kind of tough to call at this point.
      Bob

      @TopCat93018 7 лет назад

      Hi and thanks for the reply.
      When I use live view, I can only see a black screen. Which as you suggest could be the ccd board or its connections. I am wandering where it gets its power and if I left off a cable. Looks like another complete strip and check every connector again.
      When assembling it last time the fibre optic cable did cause me some concern as I was not sure how that went back in. I think that I managed to sort it but that is one cable I need to check. What does it do? Could that cause black images if the camera is trying to over compensate for something?
      Thanks again. Tc

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  7 лет назад

      The CCD gets it power from, and also transfers image data back to the main board, through the large brown flat ribbon cable that runs from the top of the CCD board to the main board. You can first see that cable in this video at time stamp 8:03. You should definitely check to make sure that the large flat ribbon cable is connected properly on both ends. Though, I think that if it wasn't connected properly, that you would have seen an error message on the screen. But, better safe than sorry.
      There is also another smaller flat ribbon cable that is below the main board that runs over to the CCD board, but that cable is used for the CCD cleaning feature. I don't think that would cause this problem at all.
      I'm really not 100% sure what the fiber optic cable is used for. I think it is possibly for flash synchronization or metering. So I doubt that it is the problem. But you should still check it. It simply just pushes into the socket for the connection. It's pretty obvious when it is in the correct place, because you can feel it snap into place when it does.
      Let me know what you find out on the connections Tim.
      Bob

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  7 лет назад

      Hi Jerry. I should have the next video uploaded later this week. It will show how to remove the circuit boards. I also got an error 20 on my 60D a few months ago. An error 20 indicates a mechanical problem. On my camera it turns out it was from the shutter curtains not closing correctly. I could see that one of the curtains had a tear in it (they are only made of a paper type material) when I lifted up the mirror and looked. It's possible that may also be your problem. The shutter has a life span of approximately 150,000 to 200,000 uses. My first 60D had a shutter count of over 400,000 and the shutter still worked well. But my second 60D barely had 100,000 when the shutter failed. I will be making a third video soon that will show how to remove the shutter assembly and replace it.

I was able to slip out the small circuit board and the metallic square part on the board is loose. I can push down inside that and get the image to finally flip. I wanted you take on this common issue and see if you had a take on a fix. Also when you remove the rubberized grip what kind of adhesive do you use to remount the grip?

    GREAT VIDEO! Makes it look so easy getting inside of it. Have you ever had a problem with the card reader contact pins? Hi Joe. I have had SD card contact problems from pieces of plastic coming off of the SD card plastic cover and getting into the contacts. Not from bent contacts though. Unfortunately just taking the back off will not be enough to get to the SD card. You will need to completely remove the main board first and then you will get access to it. So you will need to follow all of video #1, and then part of video #2, up to this location: ruclips.net/video/_-gQbCM7QMw/видео.html. Sometimes you can find just the set button and dial assembly on Ebay, but I don't see any on there right now. So, you may have to buy the entire back cover instead.
      Here's a link to a back cover assembly on Ebay:

      If you haven't already checked it, you should check to make sure that the connector on the flat ribbon cable that comes from the back cover has not come loose from the socket on the main board. It could be something simple like that.
      And, I also have video that shows how to remove and replace the set button and dial assembly. It could be that you may be able to repair it if you find what the problem is on it.

      Thank you. I'm glad that you like the videos!
      I have ordered items from China on eBay before, but never camera parts. So I couldn't tell you first hand on the quality of the parts. Though, I'm pretty sure that a lot of the camera parts that I have ordered on eBay that were supposedly in the U.S., were most likely parts originally purchased from China.
      In regards to the camera's CCD being damaged, if it only appears that it's scratched, then you may only need to swap out the IR filter that sits on top, which would be a lot cheaper than swapping out the entire CCD. I don't have a video on that process yet, but here's a video that does show removing the filter. I hope this helps you out.:

      Hi Anil. If the camera didn't get wet when it quit working, then the first thing that I would suspect at being the problem, would the the power board. You can see the power board at time stamp 11:40 in the second video in this series. They are a little pricey at around $50-$60 for a new one on ebay. But you may get lucky and find a broken 60D for sale for parts that may still have a good power board in it. It would also be good to just double-check all of the flat ribbon cables to make sure that they are seated correctly, and if they are in a connector that has a locking bar on it, then make sure that the locking bar (I call them tabs in the videos) are down. Let me know how you make out on this. -Bob

    How To Change 60D IC

  • @nayanskhare
    @nayanskhare 3 года назад

    Hi Robert,
    First of all, amazing work to put these videos dissecting different parts of the camera disassembly and assembly!
    I spilled some coffee on my 60D and it entered some part of the camera (not too deep).
    I followed all your suggestions and did a clean up of the different parts. After that, I was able to get the camera work. I took a couple of pics. But then suddenly the LCD screen stopped working. The live view or the playback buttons don't bring up the LCD screen. I also don't hear the typical clicking sound of switching to LCD that typically comes.
    At the start, the sensor cleaning also does not appear on the LCD. the top digital panel works and the viewfinder works. When I click a photo, nothing shows up on the lcd.
    When I put the SD card in my laptop, I can see the pics taken - however nothing on the lcd of the camera itself.
    Any idea how I can investigate where the problem is? The strange part is that it worked for a couple of shots and then stopped. So I wonder what went wrong..

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  3 года назад +1

      Hi Nayan. It sounds like you were so close to having it fixed too. Unfortunately it sounds like there is still some coffee somewhere inside. The two places that could effect the LCD screen is the main circuit board, and also the LCD's circuit board inside the display unit. Have you opened up the LCD display yet to see any coffee made it in there? It's possible that you could still try drying out both the main board and the LCD circuit board. There is a good chance though that even drying it out will not fix it. It doesn't take much of any kind of liquid to effect them. So drying them again would be a good idea to try, but unfortunately the damage may be permanent at this point. You should also double check the connection for the LCD on the main board as well. Let me know what you find Nayan.

Could you please tell me which video number describes the disassembly of the LCD circuit board? I didn't get any direct reference in the 2nd video where you take out most of the circuit boards.
      Also another thing to note is that when I keep the battery out for a day and insert it again after 24 hours or so, the LCD starts up again for one moment. Shows me a pic or two and then dies out again. It does not flicker or anything, just switches off completely. When it comes alive the first time, it shows the display just like normal (not damaged or blurred).. before it dies out.

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  3 года назад

      @@nayanskhare Unfortunately I don't have a video for the 60D that shows how to disassemble the large LCD. However, it's really not too difficult to do, especially if you have already successfully disassembled the main camera body. That is very interesting that the LCD display comes on momentarily and works properly after the battery has been out for a few days. To me that still sounds as if there is a moisture problem somewhere. That's a good sign that the LCD doesn't appear to have any blurry or blank areas on it when it is on. I would still say the best thing right now would be to open the LCD display up to check in there. And also to open the main body up enough to let it air dry completely. Sorry I can't be more help Nayan.

There indeed seems to be some damage internally to it because I could see a small purple residue in there. After cleaning and putting it back together, it doesn't seem to be working any more. So I guess I have to order for a new replacement LCD panel.

    Thank you for your videos and instructions - they are very helpful. Unfortunately I ran in to a snag in that the top-most screw on the left side of the camera (under the grip) is completely stripped and I cannot get this screw out (I had my camera cleaned several years ago, may have happened then?). I am trying to access the top section of my camera as I have an issue with the power switch (my camera turns on but will only stay on if I physically hold it over towards "on", as soon as I release it physically stays on the "on" position but it shuts off - I think there may be corrosion on the contact? I was trying to get inside to try to clean that contact). Is it possible to still remove the other sections of the camera if the side section is still attached to the body, or does that section have to come off with the front? I am afraid it is the latter, I just water to check if you had any additional ideas or suggestions. Thanks!

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  5 лет назад

      Yes, unfortunately that side piece must come off in order to access one of the underside screws that hold the top piece on. The best way to remove the damaged screw may be to just use a drill to cut (drill) the screw head off. After the side piece is removed there may be enough of the screw sticking up that you can use pliers to remove (unscrew) the piece still in the camera.

      I'm not sure what's going on with it Paul. It's either the black button on the camera's front cover that is stuck, or it's the metal lever & spring that is under the front cover (that the plastic button pushes on) that is stuck. My guess is that it's the lever & spring under the cover that's stuck. But there would have to be something large underneath the metal lever (where the spring is) to keep it from going down far enough to release the lens. I can send you pictures of the lever and spring if you think that it could help you out. I'm afraid I don't have a possible solution for you though. Sorry I can't be more help. Please answer if i remove and throw away the shutter mechanism will camera still work with live view and will it capture images? If i dont care of viewfinder.

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  5 лет назад

      The system gets feedback from the shutter assembly. And without any feedback the system will report an error and not work. As far as capturing images, it definitely wouldn't work anyway, because the shutter is how the light that gets to the sensor is controlled when capturing images. You would just end up with bright white images without it. For live view, if you completely removed the curtains from the shutter assembly and then put the shutter assembly back in, then possibly it might still work. But live view already opens the curtains for you, so it wouldn't really be necessary to do that anyway.

    • @DiscoverRajivVlogs
      @DiscoverRajivVlogs 5 лет назад

      @@Thebobfactor Well failure will be detected by camera that's right what i don't understand as you said the shutter controls the light. Shutter is just the mirror to reflect light to the viewfinder. When you shoot video can't enable the viewfinder as shutter and mirror must go up. If shutter controls the light then in video, it should be doing something while recording but it doesn't. While if there is something like curtain as you said i don't know what is that.

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  5 лет назад

      @@DiscoverRajivVlogs The part that you are talking about is actually the mirror inside the mirror box. That is not the shutter. The shutter sits behind the mirror and it is what opens and closes when you switch the live view on and off, and also when you take a picture. When live view is turned on the mirror will be up, and the curtains (the paper type material) on the shutter will also open and you can see the CCD (sensor). To see the shutter operating, turn on the live view and then hold your thumb on the mirror (which should be up already), and then take a picture. You will see the curtains on the shutter close as it takes the picture. That is how it controls the light to the CCD when it's in live view. It doesn't use the mirror as a shutter. The mirror just moves up and down to get out of the way. Now do the same thing with the live view turned off. Just gently push the mirror up and then hold it there. You will be able to see that the curtains on the shutter are closed and you can't see the CCD. Take a picture (while holding the mirror up) and you will see the shutter's curtains quickly open and close. How fast it opens and closes will depend on your shutter speed setting. If your shutter speed is fast you will only see the curtains flicker because they opened and closed so fast. That is how it takes a picture when it's not in live view. And like I was saying before, you may be able to use the camera in live view mode with the shutter's curtains removed, because the light on the CCD (sensor) is controlled by software and electronics in the camera at that point. But when you take a picture, the light is actually controlled physically by use of the the shutter's curtains opening and closing, and also with help from the software and electronics. I hope that is making sense. I don't know if you have seen some of the other videos in this repair series, but you can see the shutter assembly being removed in my third video here: ruclips.net/video/ZUZVH6Bfxfs/видео.html

      Yes, Before turning it on again I would definitely open it up and see if there is any moisture or any sand on any of the boards too. Which buttons do not work? The buttons on top, or the buttons on the back panel?

    Hi Robert, I am Devendra from India, I have canon 60D since few years and my manual control dial button (lower direction) is not working. Do you have any idea how to fix it?
    I have seen all your videos (all three) unfortunately you have not covered that part in your video. Kindly help me to fix this problem. also my visual screen is automatically flip up and down, what was the problem according to you?
    Thank you in advance!

      @Thebobfactor  7 лет назад

      Hi Devendra. Is the dial button that you are talking about the four direction round control on the back? If so, I have had the same problem with one of my 60D's. But, I replaced the entire back panel on mine to fix the problem. I did that only because I happened to have one from another camera that I used for parts. I still have that original back panel with the defective button on it, and I will take a look at it to see what it will take to repair it.
      Unfortunately I'm not sure what would be the problem with your LCD screen's display flipping. I'll see what I can figure out on that for you.

    Hi from Australia Rob! fantastic vids on the 60D mate, already helped me by getting it apart. Don't know if you can help me or not. Mine was randomly not turning on, now it's totally dead. batt ok and i've tried the battery switch manually but no go, I've taken the back cover off but i'm buggered if i can find the switch for the SDcard cover?? there was a small rectangle piece of rubber (i'll take a shot and send you a dropbox link if you want to see it). the door switch was working last time i used it. it came from between the top shielded board and the sdcard board roughly on top of the battery cover switch. no idea what it's for or exactly where it goes. Anyway, do those switches go bad much? i can test it with multimeter, i'd like to try and get it gooing without removing anything else, voltages to check and locations on PS board? any fault finding at this stage would be good if you could help. Cheers and keep up the great work!

      @Thebobfactor  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Gary. Hey, I'm glad the videos have helped out. That's great.
      As far as that little piece of rubber....well, I have never figured out what it's purpose is. Not a clue at this point. And I'm pretty sure that I have (unknowingly) left it out when I have put my camera back together.
      As far as what might be the problem with the random powering-on problem, something that you might check is the SD card door switch. For one thing, it's the most simply constructed "switch" in the camera it seems. Almost cheap. It's just a piece of spring metal that clips on the main board. And if it's out of place and the SD card door isn't able to touch it when it closes, then that "may" be the problem. Also, if you are trying to power the camera on while you have the back cover off, then you will need to gently push down on the SD card switch where the SD card door would have normally pushed on it.
      I haven't seen a battery door switch that was bad, but it might still be bad. I'm sure it could be tested with a multi-meter though. When you try to power it on now, do you get anything at all on the top display screen?
      If you could email me a link to your dropbox, I can upload a picture for you that shows the SD card switch, and also the placement of that piece of rubber. You can email the link to hiking@thebobfactor.com.

      That's too bad. It may be something to do with the main power switch then. The switch can be disassembled and checked out pretty easily. I can upload some pictures to your drop box that can help with that if you like. You will need to re-share the dropbox folder again though first.

    Robert, great video; very clear.
    My 60D failed to power-up between battery changes, and subsequent testing with a Canon A/C power supply also failed. I have repaired other Canon models with a failed battery hatch cover micro switch. However, I realized there are 3 possible power failure points: Battery Hatch cover, SD Card Hatch cover, and the power switch itself. So, before I disassemble the camera per your video, any thoughts on which to investigate 1st? After looking at your vid, it looks like continuity testing on the hatch covers may be more challenging than I first thought. I was originally thinking to try testing the power circuit by putting a battery into the partially disassembled camera, but that appears to be a doubtful path. TIA

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  6 лет назад

      Hi Robert. There's a couple things that you can check before opening the camera up. Some of these you have probably already checked. But I'll mention them anyway. The first is making sure the SD card is out of the camera, with the door closed. I've had SD cards glitch out to where the camera will not come on at all with that card in. Take the card out, close the door and see if it turns on. If that's not it, then you can check the SD cover interlock switch by placing a small non-metallic item, like a toothpick, in the grove that is on the right side of the open SD area, and that's with the back of the camera facing you. That actual micro switch is the one shown in here ruclips.net/video/yeCrpv_u1Zw/видео.html in the power board testing video. The thing about this switch is that camera will not come on when the switch is closed (making contact). So sliding something non-metallic in between the contacts will test that for you. And that's just what the SD cover does. Since you've repaired other battery door interlock switches, I'm sure you've tested that already. The only thing left is to visually look down inside the battery compartment and make sure the two contacts in the center of the compartment are not bent or have anything covering them. If everything here seems good, then you may have to open it up enough to test the power board. That would be the next step.
      Are you getting a blinking battery icon, or anything else on the upper LCD screen?

      Robert, thank you for such a quick response! The suggestions are very useful. I'll try with the SD card out - I don't remember any more if I did that or not (the camera failed a couple weeks ago while doing time-lapse nightscapes in the middle of nowhere... Luckily I had my 40D with me as a backup.
      Also, thanks for the link to the powerboard. Interesting design to have the system power-up when the switch is open, though as I think about it, that's one way to conserve power (I play with firmware for msp430 devices when not shooting.)
      I'll let you know if I'm able to get the camera to power-up. Thanks again!!!

      By the way I love time-lapse. Very cool stuff. I have my tripod set up right now to catch some Poppy flowers that will be opening up in the morning. Hi.
      Your best bet to remove the broken screw would be to use a screw extractor such as this one:
      www.amazon.com/Yingte-Extractor-Remover-Reverse-Thread/dp/B07F2H8ZRF/ref=sr_1_5?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1537836691&sr=1-5&keywords=screw+easy+out&dpID=516iPW74C6L&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch
      There are other variations of screw extractors out there too. You just need to get one that will work on a 1/4" (approx: 6mm) screw.
      If the extractor doesn't work, then you will need to remove the metal bottom plate from the camera and then drill out the broken screw. Or, you could replace the entire bottom plate.
      This is a link to the second video in this series that shows removing the bottom plate. You would also need to follow the procedure in this video (#1) to open the camera up first.
      ruclips.net/video/_-gQbCM7QMw/видео.html
      Good luck with it! And let me know how you make out on it.

    Hi again Robert. Did you ever have err 80 on your 60d? Mine started with that, then main LCD stopped working, then camera won't turn on anymore. Every once in a while, I got it to turn back on just to see that err 80 flashing on top LCD and if I turn it off, it will be dead again.

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Lazy Chop.
      I've never had that error come up on any of my 60D's, but I've seen a lot of comments from people in forums that have run into it.
      Here is Canon's info about the Err 80:
      ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      Description: A malfunction with the electric control or images has been detected.
      Resolution: Turn the power off, then remove and re-install the battery. Then turn the power on again.
      ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      Here's a comment from someone's post in a forum who had talked to a Canon rep about it, and what they suggested regarding Err 80:
      ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      I contacted the Canon reps, and one suggestion they had was to take out the SD card, battery and other accessories from camera and leave it like that for at least 30 minutes. I kept it like that for a day and have just now inserted the battery, and the camera turned back on just fine, and I can access the menu, etc. I have yet to install a SD card and check if it can read off the card and write to it as well.
      ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      Something that I did run into two weeks ago on one of my 60Ds, was the camera not turning on at all after working fine the day before, and only flashing an empty battery icon on the top LCD. After a day I figured out that it was the SD card causing the problem. When I changed the card out with another one and then turned the camera on everything worked fine. I put the original card back in, and the camera quit again. So I put the SD card in a card reader and reformatted it and it's been working fine in that same camera ever since. Go figure.
      My guess as to what Canon's meaning of "A malfunction with the electric control or images has been detected." is, would be something wrong with the SD card's board, or the CCD, or something on the main board.
      If I come across anything helpful I'll let you know Lazy Chop.
      Bob

      Robert Hosea thank you very much. I also looked in those threads on canon community. My case was pretty much similar to the last case you noted, except it did not work with any card i have. I guess there is something wrong with sd card board. I will be watching your video to figure out how to disassembled it for a replacement.

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  7 лет назад +1

      The SD card would be a good place to start. It's tough to troubleshoot though without actually replacing it. And new ones are not cheap. I have "used" boards for a 60D that I use to help determine what board is bad in a camera. I can send you my SD card board to try in yours if you want. That would at least tell you if the board is bad before dishing out the $$ to buy a new one. I would just need the board back again. Let me know if you want to use the board, and you can email me your address if you do.

    • @lazychop6774
      @lazychop6774 7 лет назад

      Thanks to your video tutorials , i was able to swap the sd card board. Err 80 went away. Unfortunately, i guess i have deeper issue than just card board, i did not think abt it since I thought they all linked to the sd card board problem. The lcd still black, camera still not taking pictures, flash wont pop and won't connect to pc either. I tried connecting it to pc when err 80 was present, it would not connect. I accidentally touch the flash capacitor while it was on but got no shock, so I guess that could be another issue. I will update if i found anything. Fixing camera seems to be a lot more fun than i thought. Great way to learn

      That is a tough one. Short of finding another board that you could remove it from, I would look at www.DigiKey.com for something. I get a lot of components from them. From the picture it looks like it has 12 connections. Here's a link to a DigiKey search for "surface mount 12-Position headers":
      www.digikey.com/products/en/connectors-interconnects/rectangular-connectors-headers-male-pins/314?k=sm%2012%20position%20connector
      There are a lot of results, but you can narrow the results down by modifying the filters at the top of the page.
      If you can't find it on DigiKey then take a look at www.Mouser.com. Let me know how you make out on this.

      Another motherboard really costs me too much. I thought I could find it at 20 € but it is not so unfortunately. I found this connector is similar but not identical: www.mouser.it/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?qs=cTNRJjk9LReY0n8B358FZQ%3d%3d. If so, I can disconnect it with a flux and welder and then attach the individual wires using a great magnifying glass.

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  7 лет назад

      In the picture, the connector looks like a 12-connection male/female pinned type. Is that correct? And the connector in the link shows a 52-connection double-sided style connector. Possibly the link is misdirecting me, but the two connectors are not at all the same. What type of camera did the circuit board come out of? And yes, you could reconnect a new connector using wires if the pin-outs are different from the original. I've done that before as well. You just need a very, very fine tipped soldering iron and fine solder.

    • @pierpa_76pierpaolo
      @pierpa_76pierpaolo 7 лет назад

      The mount is 12 pin and not 52 pin. On the card is written "AT & S". This card belongs to the Canon 600D. To secure the wires you need a monocle (like this chinese style www.ebay.it/itm/MONOCOLO-BINOCOLO-CANNOCCHIALE-ZOOM-MONOCULARE-INGRANDIMENTO-16x52-MM-CACCIA/191804208638?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%) for enlargement up to 20X, otherwise with a normal lens you do not see very well. Hopefully I'm in a hurry to reuse my reflex.

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  7 лет назад

      I'm not sure why the link is going to a 52-Position connector. But, I'm sure Mouser also has a 12-Position. I've always used an illuminated magnifier for very fine circuit board work. It works well and it's hands free. Similar to this one: www.amazon.com/Oanon-Magnifying-Flourescent-Magnifier-Adjustable/dp/B072XP8W2F/ref=sr_1_19_sspa?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1507398728&sr=1-19-spons&keywords=illuminated+magnifier+5x&psc=1

      Hi Davy. I would say that you will need to remove the top part of the camera and tear down the power switch/mode dial assembly. Most likely there is corrosion on the contacts. I don't have anything that shows repairing it right now, but I will try to get some pictures of the process in the near future. And, it really isn't too hard to tear down. Try that and see if that fixes your problems for you. Let me know how things go if you can.

      Hi Davy. I've uploaded a few pictures of the internal parts of the power switch and mode dial. You can see the contacts that may need to be cleaned.The pictures can help you when you are putting it back together too.

      Hi Robert, thanks for the reply and the photos. I have bought the 60D top cover from ebay for easy swap. But I will clean the one I have and put it in my other 60D which is also have the same problem. Yup I have 2 faulty 60D. I still love the camera. They still do the job for me. They still take good pictures. If you have time please check out my instagram account @davywg
      I'm still waiting for that top cover to arrive and maybe I'll do a time lapse video of replacing the top cover. Thanks again and I'll be in touch. Cheers

      Replacing the top section should be a fast and easy fix for you Davy. I do show how to replace the top section in video #4 of this series, if you need any help on it. Here's a link to it: ruclips.net/video/7gJr4ANik-g/видео.htmlm52s
      You have some BEAUTIFUL photographs on your instagram account. Very nice indeed! You do your camera justice. Are some of them HDR?
      I am a big fan of taking pictures of moving water with long exposures. I also do most in HDR. I like doing HDR time lapse photography with my 60D as well. You can see some of my photos on my website at www.thebobfactor.com. More recent photos and videos are on my TheBobFactor facebook page.
      Yes please let me know how everything turns out with your camera(s).
      I have three 60D's. Two that are "currently" working well, and one for parts.
