I may be a little late to the party considering how long ago this video was posted, but since the pc version was only recently released and this build still holds up well, I thought I would leave a few of my thoughts, experiences and tips here.
First of all, if you’re like me and you never touched a light bowgun in monster hunter, having played only melee weapons before, you will be surprised to learn that using a ranged weapon will COMPLETELY CHANGE YOUR CONTROLS. I don’t mean just two buttons to accomodate for the weapon’s aiming and reload buttons, I mean every single input from wirebug dashing and wirefall, to how you sheathe the weapon, how you interact with ballistas and cannons found in Rampages or the Narwa and Ibushi fights, and many other things change. This will require a lot of mental remapping on your part. At first this is a massive pain as you keep pressing the wrong buttons when trying to wirebug dash to get out of danger and may lead to some frustrating faints. After a while, though, you get used to it. Practicing in the training area or doing low rank village quests before going on a serious hunt is advisable.
Secondly, I was under the impression while watching this video guide that you could just use slicing ammo for the entire fight against a monster, since that’s all what’s being talked about. While it’s obvious to past bowgun users that this isn’t the case, this is a thing that really shocked me when I tried the build out myself. You can only bring 30 Slicing Ammo with you on a hunt, which is enough to cut the monster’s tail in most circumstances (even in multiplayer), but you won’t be killing the monster with such a small amount of ammo. One way to go around this is to always keep 30 Slashberries (that’s the maximum you can bring) and a farcaster in your inventory. You can craft 30 more slicing ammo with the berries, and while autocraft doesn’t work for this, it’s actually pretty fast if you do it manually and you can easily do it during combat. The farcaster can be used to quickly return to camp and restock on ammo and berries. The berries can be easily farmed with the Argosy, and the ammo can be bought from the market with zenny so you don’t waste your berries.
However, even with this workaround, you’ll still be low on ammo a bunch of times during the fight, so you HAVE TO USE OTHER AMMO TYPES. The good news is that the bowgun featured in this video has rapid-fire for two other good ammo types, and this build works really with them: Normal 2 and Piercing Thunder Ammo. You can take 99 and 60 of each, respectively, into a hunt, and when paired with the Slashberries you’ll be carrying for instant slicing ammo resupply, this may be enough to last you the whole hunt. You can also get 80 Normal 2 ammo for free from the supply chest at the start of a hunt.
Thirdly, every guide I’ve seen on light bowguns harps on a concept called “Critical Range”. It basically boila down to you having to be in proper range, not too close and not too far. When you’re in this range, you will see your aiming reticule turn orange. That’s how you know when to shoot, as doing so outside of critical range will see huge damage dropoffs. Yet, nobody mentions how SLICING AMMO HAS NO CRITICAL RANGE. Your reticule will change, but it makes absolutely no difference. I found this out by accident and have done extensive testing in the training area to confirm that my damage numbers stay exactly the same no matter where I am shooting from. This is because slicing ammo “sticks” to your target and then explodes on the target after a delay. The initial strike when it “sticks” only does 1 or 2 damage at most, and this is the only part of it affected by critical range, so you’re not losing any damage from shooting at point-blank range or sniping the monster. Critical range is, however, very important when using Normal 2 or Piercing Thunder ammo.
Furthermore, there are two highly useful armor skills outside of what this guide mentions. The first one is Spare Shot. It has a small chance of not consuming ammo when shooting. To be specific, 5%, 10%, 20% across its three levels. This sounds like a very small change but it actually works incredibly well. I happened upon a talisman that had the slots needed to finish this build and also had two points in this skill, which was enough to make a difference. Having it active means having extra ammo and a slightly bigger magazine, and since ammo supply is so limited for your most effective ammo types, your damage will improve in turn.
Another useful skill is Evade Extender. You have to constantly dodge with your weapon drawn and the silkbind skill demonstrated in this video can sometimes unintentionally put you in harm’s way because of its drifting trajectory. Dodging is much more reliable and evade extender improves it dramatically. If you get a talisman with this skill and a 3-slot, it may even be worth ditching the extra Critical Boost deco from the build in favor of improving your survivability and positioning efficiency tenfold.
The Ballistics skill deserves a worthwhile mention. It improves your critical range distance. While useless for slicing ammo, it will greatly improve the range at which your other ammo types can be reliably used, meaning you can shoot more and reposition less over the course of the fight.
As for food skills, this is a good combination I’ve found for this build:
    1. Mint-iature, which increases attack and defense for a period of time at the start of a hunt, great for maximising your Slicing ammo damage potential
    2. Beansplosion, gives a passive buff to your damage, very slightly decreases accuracy of shots (it’s barely noticable)
NOTE: DOES NOT AFFECT SLICING AMMO!
    3. Centering, also gives a passive buff to your damage and stacks with both of the dangos mentioned above, and it has the added benefit of preventing you from getting knocked to the ground
NOTE: DOES NOT AFFECT SLICING AMMO!
As you can see, two of these three dangos have no effect on your most powerful ammo type. They still increase your overall damage, however, since you’ll be using other ammo types during the hunt. You can freely exchange these two for something that helps you survive, if you feel the need to, something like Magnacrisp (Magnaroar) or Bestnut.
That’s all I have to add to this great build guide, hope this helps a newcomer who gets inspired by this video to start using the Light Bowgun, just like I was! :D

you can use these old guides for early game but once you get to mr 50+ theyre really outdated. Id just watch an endgame hunt with this lbg because right now you have a lot of misconceptions that would be cleared up if you looked at an end game build. For instance, there are runs using this bowgun on the final final boss fight (not trying to spoil) and they use exclusively slicing and it gets them through the whole fight with the use of one farcast with the boss varying 40-100k hp. If you have the correct build it changes everything. Also so many people run dango moxie/adrenaline for its 35% dmg boost. I'd just watch current runs/builds. As much as i love sam he's for sure not a gunner only guy like the others out there and this should be evident with the point you made of him not using spareshot, one of the most important parts of this lbg in endgame. If you really want to break the game tho use a sticky hbg or a spread bow. The meteor cannon sticky lbg is pretty early game and budget as hell and turns monsters into training dummies. GLHF

See the current build I'm running with the zinogre lbg is crit eye 7, spare shot 3, normal/rapid up 3, Reload speed 3, Recoil Down 3, Attack boost 2, Wex 2, poison attack 2 (from charm), crit boost 1, I'm gonna upgrade it a bit more with some decos and it's far from final form still but I have no idea why you aren't trying to go for spare shot with slicing, it's SOOOO nice.

    • @iAmMuu
      @iAmMuu 3 года назад +1

I'd drop 5 points of crit eye for wex 3 and more points of attack/crit boost (I'd go for crit boost 3 before you go for any attack on this build) - if you/anyone in your party uses the fighter type palico you can get a 30% affinity boost whenever they use Rousing Roar (just be sure to use the felvine at the start of the hunt to make them more likely to use it)

I'll just leave this here, as I found it a little unintuitive going through everything multiple times to actually build myself the full shopping list.
    LBG Despot's Wildfire (Zinogre Tree)
    Vaik Helm S
    Vaik Mail S
    Rathalos Braces S
    Anjanath Coil S
    Arzuros Greaves S
Talisman (minimum 3-2-X, 1x Critical Eye)
    Decorations:
    3 Attack (Attack Boost)
    3 Absorber (Recoil Down)
    3 Salvo (Rapid Fire Up)
    3 Tenderizer (Weakness Exploit)
    2 Quickload (Reload Speed)
    1 Critical (Critical Boost)
Critical Jewel requires to fight an apex rathalos, it may not be visible in your deco crafting menu until then.
Vaik Armor requires to get Armored Bream, which comes from any Argosy trade route that has the fish symbol as it's market. (Use Shiny Bargain, or the better one.)
    The rest is pretty straightforward.
Oh and good luck with Narwa. People for some reason don't like healing back up after they got hit.. It was painful even with Wide Range 5 and recovery ammo x ~x Maybe I was just unlucky.
Also personally: Consider trying to craft 3-2-X talismans with Spare shot. One point of critical eye is nice, but I personally think I prefer having to farcaster less often just for convenience. It will probably slow you down by.. Maybe a minute of hunting time at most? But this build as far as I can tell is extremely forgiving as long as you got the basic parts sorted out - There's certainly some room to play around here for convenience and individual preference :)
Good luck, fellow hunters! The grind is strong this time, but we shall meet at Valstrax!

@@stevelleremy1685 yeah it's really easy to build, the hardest part is getting the items for the gems for your sockets and that is still easy to do. The damage output is always high and if your playing with other players be ready to run from the Monster a lot as you will pull agro like no tomorrow! You 100% want to use the Fanning Maneuver skill as it will save your ass a lot.
I do recommend this build though you will be doing hundreds of damage super fast if your hitting the weak points of the monster.

Everyone use bazel for slicing LBG… can’t be more creative I guess. I can assure you that you will easily run out of ammo for new players, and it is worse in multiplayer. Be prepared to go back to camp for ammo. People use bazel in their videos for the reason that it’s has very the best hitzone. It will only go worse when you hunt other monsters.

    • @Wauly
      @Wauly 3 года назад +2

I realize this comment is at least 2 weeks old, but I'll try to help anyway. Sorry if I repeat anything you already knew.
Before I start, make sure to note that "Jewels" and "Decorations" are interchangeable names for the same thing, as the blacksmiths that can forge them have them available under the "Decorations" tab. That's where you can craft them by the way. You will need various monster parts and jewel specific parts that you get for most quest rewards.
If you hold the Y button over a jewel in the blacksmith decorations crafting menu, or almost any blacksmith-forgeable item in the game, you can add it to a wishlist which you can access by pressing + going to the info tab, and going to "wishlist". The game will automatically tell you when a wishlisted item can be crafted.
      Now on to skills.
Armor skills and jewel slots come with a piece of armor. Jewel slots, being the slots which you can fit Jewels into.
      For example:
Pause at time stamp 2:39 where the Vaik Helm S is highlighted. At the far right you will see this has the following skills: Ammo Up Lv 2, Attack Boost Lv 1, and Recoil Down Lv 1
The Vaik Helm S comes with Ammo Up Lv2 built into it by default, and a Level 2 slot and a level 1 slot. The reason the Vaik Helm S also shows that it has Attack boost and Recoil Down on it is because those are slotted in as you can see in the left center of the screen in the slots window.
Make sure you understand the difference between skill levels and slot levels. The level 2 slot can hold a level 2 jewel or lower, which just refers to the size of a jewel. The level of a skill represents the thresholds you've crossed to activate more powerful versions of the skill. For example, Attack Boost Lv 1 is quite lackluster +3 Attack damage, but Attack Boost Level 7 is awesome (It actually starts adding a 10% boost along with a flat +10 Boost). The Attack Boost Decorations (named "Attack Jewel 2") are level 2 decorations so they need to be in a level 2 slot (or level 3 slot) to fit in.
So that's the basics. I recommend google/youtube searching for anything else, but if you have any fairly specific questions, feel free to reply.

This build doesn't exactly hold up like this on the console version. Like I built this to the letter of everything he had and my bowgun doesn't shoot nearly this fast. I don't know what they did but it doesn't do what it shows in this video it's a significant difference in velocity of shots.

Personally I’d prioritise crit boost, provided you can hit weak spots consistently.
With the small clip size for zinogre lbg slicing you wanna make sure you have ammo up, spare shot both maxed, then wex and crit boost, then any crit eye you can fit.

Not to be devil’s advocate here, but say you’re really, really good, could you replace 2 attack decos and the crit boost for 3 Peak Performance, gain 20 raw attack, possibly be higher damage even with Attack boost at 5? Just asking out of curiosity.

    • @SamPhamNBA2KTipsandTutorial
      @SamPhamNBA2KTipsandTutorial  3 года назад

I thought about that actually and tested it. Issue is losing the 2 attack and the boost actually ends up to be like close to 20 attack so the extra 5 really isn’t worth it.
