This is the cheapest all solid wood and gloss finish Martin available. And it's really good. I'm not lying. A friend I went to town on it and a d18 in my local music store and I must say, there were some times where it seemed this guitar drowned out the d18. It's a real sleeper. I recommend the d12e. My only complaint is that bit of plastic in the bottom. I wish they didn't come with pickups. Only the hole so we can decide what to put in them
My first guitar I ever bought was a Great Divide SDCE-18 with sapale back and sides and a solid sitka spruce top just like this. I bought it for $150 at guitar center. Upgraded nut and bridge and it absolutely sings for a fraction of the price. Not saying this guitar isn't great but man there are some killer sapele guitars out there that sound brilliant without the logo price this one has.
@@tkbikesnc6079 there are alot of great options out there, that's for sure. And, at every price point. Martin dreds have THAT sound though, I'm learning. Just something about it. Sure, higher sticker price but imo you're getting so much for what you pay for. And you get to own a piece of guitar history. And you get something you can enjoy and be proud of for years to come..the beauty of quality guitars.. Peace

So I tried the 18.... it was okay. 28- same. Hd28; again, nothing special. I tried a few others, then I picked up a DRSG from Mexico! Yes! Mexico!(in case you had to find your glasses) When I stumbled a few major and minor chords, this guitar actually changed my episode of depression and all I wanted to do was get it home asap and play. I should add that I've always heard about how great Martin guitars are from my Uncle Gary! Well, I knew I would probably never be in a position to ever, and I mean EVER buy a brand new Martin. I mean, I was prepared to go as high as $4,5. But that was absolutely it!! To my surprise, it was $17 & change, taxes in! Solid Sitka spruce top, black walnut B/S. Solid wood as well. A one piece neck. Scalloped bracing and a Fishman sonitone pick up and the controls are just under the lip of the soundhole! The neck is fast and comfy. It's like they designed it for my left hand.! Every now and again someone will say to me that my mexican made guitar wouldn't stand up to a USA Martin! At one time it used to upset me, I'll be honest. Then it came to me. Now, if someone says it now, I simply ask if we can do a comparison. The conversation ends in 20 secs or less. As Shakespeare once said (I think) A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet..,...d. Thanks, Martin. Thanks.
@@soofitnsexy it's a crap shoot for all companies. Some Martins are excellent and will get better with time. Some are average sounding, but they are all good quality guitars. It's about what instrument speaks to you, along with comfort and price. Just follow your heart, lol
I'd love one of these guitars. I got to play a d13 E at my local music store. However, since this is more like a mahogany wood guitar I'd like one. I've got a d18 that I love, but this would make a great guitar to take outside or take to an open mike event as well.
I can't walk into a store here in California, so I've had to do lots of video-watching research, and thanks for helping me decide what to get, and I'm super stokes about getting one of these asap, and also cause I quickly moved past the level of my $200 Yamaha beginner guitar.

Oteng Darkwa D12E - Solid sitka spruce top with solid sapele back and sides ( full gloss body ) brand new model 2019 latest from the New Road Series DRS2 - Solid sitka spruce top with solid sapele back and sides ( satin finish ) phase out model they updated this model as D10E DRSG - Solid sitka spruce top with solid siris back and sides ( full gloss bosy ) phase out model they updated this model as D13E Yes body finishes affects the tone in minimal way.. new guitar with satin finish is louder than full gloss finish, the wood can vibrate freely, while the full gloss coz wrapped the wood so vibration is little bit tight but this will settle down in few years down the road..

When my ear heard the Siris wood, something happened in my head and I fell in love with that sound. Rosewood was getting boring so I thought mahogany. I think I got the best of both worlds.
Nicolas Mayrand X Series is polyurethane, Road Series and any other Series below the Standard Series use a type of "catalyzed" nitrocellulose that cures quickly under UV light, Standard Series uses old school nitrocellulose that cures from air-drying, which takes a lot longer
Oteng Darkwa matte finish always sounds louder and open compared to gloss, gloss takes time to settle before opening up, thats why old guitars projects like a cannon.

I bought a brand new Martin DRSG( it was called then. Did Martin change back to numbers again. I'm confused.
Yes, a few years ago, Chris insisted on all Martins having the same nomenclature. D & then a number, instead of DRSG, etc.

Yes body finishes affects the tone in minimal way.. new guitar with satin finish is louder than full gloss finish, the wood can vibrate freely, while the full gloss coz wrapped the wood so vibration is little bit tight but this will settle down in few years down the road..
Also, mine is black walnut or(Siris) wood.

i think if i am correcct that the d10 is similar in wood and tone. Just the finition changing (satin vs gloss and the tuner better on the d12)
