I love the 1976 King Kong movie. Very nostlagic for me as I saw it many times as kid in the early 80s and because I'm a New Yorker. I give it a lot of credit for changing the relationship between Kong and the damsel in distress, who in this movie formed a bond, making Kong's (apparent) death at the end all the more emotional. I liked the performances too and did not find Jeff Bridges to be "obnoxious." If there is anyone I did find obnoxious it was Jack Black in the 2005 Kong movie, a remake I do not care for at all. Saw it once and I will never see it again.

1976 version really got me scared in the childhood. I mean, when I saw that scene with Kong's eyes watching the woman inside a building through the window. His eyes are so scary. After watching that movie I sometimes checked if there are no eyes watching me through the window when it was late evening.
It is that good. No CGI can match this. I don't accept new versions of King Kong.
