When I was 17 years old , waiting for a bus to take me home , I wandered into a record shop and browsed. I found an album which was La Boheme featuring Renata Tebaldi and Carlo Bergonzi. I don't remember what prompted me to buy this particular record. It must have been fate. When I got home , I went to my room and put on this album. What an emotional overload . I had never heard anything quite as beautiful before or since . I fell in love with Renata at that moment. I have been faithful to her for 63 years. I still have the album .
The definitive recording of this beautiful opera. The cast assembled are all first rate, and I will always believe this is how this should be sung. Thanks for sharing.
Tebaldi in this recording is like a goddess heralding a magnificent dawning of the Sun. Even in the deathbed scene she is only the Sun setting into the twilight. The range of emotion she expresses is a vocal canvas that evokes paintings in the style of Maxfield Parrish to Ingres. Extraordinary cast, and there is of course, the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia under the direction of the indomitable Maestro Serafin. This recording is almost too beautiful, almost beyond reason.

Esta é a gravação definitiva de La Boheme. Bergonzi foi excelente, como sempre, e Corena estava com uma voz verdadeiramente magnífica. Esta também pode ser considerada a melhor gravação do lendário Serafin.
