- These are from some of the old "Voice of Firestone" telecasts of the early 1950s which I have upscaled to HD and 60 fps and restored the audio in Digitally Extracted Stereo. The last item is a colorized clip of Jussi with the incomparable Renata Tebaldi singing "O soave fanciulla" from Puccini's La Boheme.
Color & B. & W.
Enjoy!
Bjoerling had one of the most beautiful voices of all times.
*the
I know people who have heard him live they say recordings arent even close to doing him justice.
At night he would sometimes go out on the beach to sing by himself and people would gather in crowds just to listen.
@@antonhallergren588Victoria de los Angeles said that his voice was much more beautiful than in the records.
La voz de tenor mas hermosa de todos los tiempos. Un ángel Cantor sobre la tierra. Gracia Dios por acercarlo por un tiempo a nuestros oídos.
WHAT a voice!! What an artist. Incredible. Nothing like that these days.
JB just the best Tenor ever in the last 100 years. What a Voice and technique!
Well restored. Now we can hear Bjorling sounds like. Wonderful!
I like Bjorling's humility and appearance. Outstanding performances every time. There is not the slightest misstep. Self-discipline and talent to the extreme. Who is at that level? No one.
He had lifelong routine of course, he had almost grown up on stage, and his father had also been touring in the US early in the 20th century, albeit not as the big star his son was destined to become. Jussi is a global and Swedish icon in the world of singing, more than sixty years after he passed away
Jussi Bjorling is a magnificent tenor. I joined the Jussi Bjorling Society so I could share this love with others who revere him
At 10.40 I started crying😭
I first heard this great voice as a child. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to hear it again as a trained musician and former vocalist. This man had all the goods.
His voice simply sailed to the top, seemingly effortless. Grande Maestro
How wonderful to see and hear the era of great Western culture being celebrated by presenting the most beautiful tenor voice of all - Jussi Bjorling. His artistry - along with that of Renata Tebaldi and others - is a reminder of an era when artistry was not only celebrated but communicated en masse in the hope that our society as a whole would be elevated.
That's European culture, not western culture: Bjoerling is European, and he is singing a European kind of music by European composers. No hint of the Americanized west apart from the Americans in the public listening to such music
One of the greatest tenors of the 20th century. The pearl fishers duet has always been a particularly favourite of mine.
With Robert Merrill .
@@davidpearn5925 Marvellous combination!
A voice of unshed tears .
Jussis voice was God showing off. I know people of the muslim and jewish faiths who celebrate christmas here in sweden and the peak of the whole celebration is hearing Jussi's O helga natt. Tell me another voice that can bring people closer to the Lord and Savior in that way...
My goodness, look at the size of the huge audience! One thing is for sure, people back then may not have had the technology we have today such as 4K HD televisions and Dolby Digital Stereo but they certainly had 1st class entertainment, unlike the crap dished out to us today.
100% agreed
Hear, hear!
Music is about unobstructed heart to heart communication. When technique and performance reach the highest level, the means dissappear and complete freedom rules. Kudos to the audio processing. Absolutely top shelf given the gear of the day. But make no mistake: some of the vocal microphones of the day were as good as they ever got. Love to know what was used.
Heard him in Dublin in either 1951 or 1952. He gave a recital in the Theatre Royal - beautiful! Eddie
Nov. 29th, 1952. Recital, Dublin.
Melhor de todos...❤ Deus o tenha em paz.
That ring. Heavenly.
The greatest.
Merci pour ces restaurations et l'ensemble des vidéos ! Jussi , LE modèle de la voix naturelle.
Único, fue la voz de tenor mas hermosa del siglo xx .
The greatest tenor among the greatest of all time.❤👏👏👏
WONDERFUL ,Jussi for ever !
Wonderful !!
I did nt know that Anna-Lisa Björling was a opernstar to. Thanks.
Thanks for posting this. In my humble opinion Bjorling is, if not the best, one of the best tenors ever.
*The most beautiful voice in recorded history.
Thank you for this new years gift
To us all to hear this man's voice.
What a treasure! So much masterful singing. And has there ever been a more beautiful voice? I think not...
People can disagree... or... well... yeah only until they hear it...
No one has ever had the range from the sweetest of sweet to the most subtle yet absolutley soul crushing sadness in their voice.
What a voice ... always moved by his artistry even if the song is schmaltzy, he has a singular tone that radiates utter beauty that speaks to the sincere humanity in each of us. Thank you for posting this wonderful video. I knew the voice but had never seen a live performance of Jussi Bjoerling or his wife.
Great historical music achievement, congratulations
Mon dieu. What an amazing voice Jussi Bjourling had. We must not forget the pleasure he has given the opera audience. I wish You Tube would present for TV audiences an entire opera, such as Carmen, Cavalleria Rusticana, Madama Butterfly, La Traviata, Aida, any really, in which Maestro Bjourling sang.
Björling
My first LP of Jussi was with de Los Angeles - Butterfly. As a kid, I watched Omnibus with Dad. The was even before Bernstein’s Young People’s Concerts. It was a Golden Era.
As a side note, Jussi’s knowledge of languages is stunning, contributing to his amazing diction in everything he sang.
I wish tv programming would include talented classical singers and expose this generation to the beauty of the human voice.
Jussi Bjorling has always been my favourite tenor; but I think Josef Calleja captures some of the Bjorling magic today. Thank you so much for taking the trouble to restore these old recordings.
My Dad would have loved this ! The Pearl
Fishers with Robert Merrill was a favourite we played at his funeral
Beautiful voice ✨
A fantastic piece of music history. Makes my swedish heart tick prouder.
What a joy to see Bjorling singing with his beautiful and talented wife. Thank you so much for posting this gem.
Magnificent piece of history🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 of an outstanding singer🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Ballaratboy1....splendid archival footage...a treat to hear him sing with his wife
Thank your for your work in restore the great Jussi.
1957 I purchased a 2 Vinyl recording of Verdi's Il Trovatore with Jussi as Manrico Zinka Milanov as Azucena and Leonard Warren singing the Count D'Luna. Just heavenly.
Wonderful recording, yes. I have listened to it so often, still one of my favourites.
I have a copy of it.
Fedora Barbieri also as Azucena.
Pavarotti said that he was the best singer of Nessum dorma, and he was right. His technique (Björling's) was flawless. Great voices 🌻💖
Absolutely beautiful, thank you for sharing, have loved his voice for years
It is done so well that it's almost as if one is there in person.. I have loved your Jussi björling singing since I was a small boy. I always felt there was something super natural about him. You have done it so well I can actually hear where he makes mistakes especially with the words in salut. It makes it more human and more admirable. As somebody once said 'the supreme singing of a very shy man.
grandioso tenor. Excepcional en todos los sentidos
Getting things ready for Christmas, bread about to go in the oven, thinking about making mince pies, Chicken Liver Pate to make, and thought ok what about a bit of Jussi Bjorling, one of my all time favourite Greats tenor-wise, things were going so well, and then got to @12.25 and I lost it...
Wishing you all here, a Merry Christmas. that despite all that's going on, you find a moment of Peace and Happiness, in whatever way it presents.
Спасибо за возможность слышать этого певца !
That was great!
He sang the theme aong better than any one. Good English. ( there are a few radio interviews. Only a slight accent.)
Is an accent a flaw? What about personal touch. Not everyone is native in English, welcome to real world
@jade_jewel great singers sang perfect German French and Italian. English is harder but many master it. Gedda Aksel schoitz and others . Settling for mediocre is not the same as a personal touch and is there a flaw.
@@jefolson6989 When I hear a rendition which conveys emotion, soulful insight and depth that's more for me than perfect pronunciation 🪔. AND this video is gem!
I used to have the Firestone shows on VHS. This looks and sounds far better.
Great stuff. Thank you
Thank you! This is fantastic!
Even the great Luciano Pavarotti hoped to be able to sing as well as Jussi Bjorling! My first opera I purchased was La Boheme with Jussi Bjorling and Renate Tebaldi.
Bjoerling didn't record Boheme with Tebaldi.
@@kable321Why do you think we need to know which opera recording was your first one, especially since we do not know each other. And especially since the information seems false. Björling recorded La bohème with de los Angeles.
fantastic work. well done!
What a godsend. Thank you so much for making this available.
Un tenore meraviglioso ❤
Hermosísima VOZ !!!!! Dominio PERFECTO DEL AIRE * * * * * !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent work as always Steve. The last great duet with Tebaldi is such a gem ❤
Thanks Lawrence, it is a gem indeed.
@@ballaratboy1 The whole segment is tops Steve and so wonderful that you have honoured Jussi in this way. Other than Caruso, he is the greatest of the tenors for me; so easy to listen too.
incredibel!!
What a voice Gift from God brought tears 😢 😭 heavenly ❤
Браво. Супер Юсси
Thank you!
The best ténor with caruso.

Some very few voices bring tears to the eyes simply because of their divine nature. Björling is God's gift.
When asked how he compared to Jussi Björling, the great Oavarotti said “Please, I’m only human.”
THANK YOU FOR THIS!
He was just fantastique and a wonderfull artiste Edward Arckless ex Royal Oper Ballet Covent Garden London and conservatoire de Ville de Paris France
Terrific! And thank you for not adding extraneous applause and the like. The quality of this work is really remarkable.
Thank you.
❤❤❤
I am beginning to realize the extent to which Pavarotti and others copied his technique, but could not fully emulate his sound. It leads me to wonder whether Pavarotti's career would have taken off in the 60's the way it did had Bjorling not died.
Strange, though, to see a classical orchestra without women. These days, thank heavens, it's a rare sight. Hard won, though.
Early experiment in stereo sound t.v. though FM radio combine t.v. and the recreation of it for this show.
The audio is very impressive! Can you tell us what program you are using to achieve this? Does Audacity have an option for DES?
I use "Adobe Audition" to clean up any background noise and then split the mono audio into 4 stems using "Spleeter GUI", finally, I mix it all with "Audacity". It takes a while but the results mostly are good.
Jussi always looked scared on these tv shows!
Ladies get a man that looks at you the way Bjorling looks at his wife.

Crystal clear high note voice like glass❤😮.
Amazing🧐
voila le seul tenor... face a corelli.. pour moi ...
I might of been wrong the simulation on am FM radio may not of combine it to t.v.
Beautiful, but he always had a tendency to sing sharp. Like Domingo.
True, but that’s not really considered a fault. Much better to sound like you’re above the note, not below it.
@@johnhoie-hj7cg
Who says? Both are off-tune. Also, I can scarcely recall a singer who sings flat, at least a well-known one. Singing sharp comes from pressing too hard with syrupy emotion.
@ Bjorling was never described as syrupy. He wasn’t that popular in Italy because they viewed him as cold.
Lots of singers get flat as their voices age, c.f. Sherrill Milnes. I always thought Corelli was occasionally flat, but it might have just been his well known habit of “swooping”.
Anyway, I say slightly sharp sounds good, and people referring to Bjorling have said the same thing. Maybe perfectly on key is better, but slightly (emphasis on slightly) sharp sounds good too.

"Bjorling was never described as syrupy."
He just was. By me. At least part of the time. Overall I love his singing and tone, but the vibrato can sometimes sound forced rather than effortless, which results in occasional sharpness.
A real "bell canto", something beautiful...
The most haunting and beautiful voice ever. Those high silver notes vibrates and melts in your soul.
Very good restauration of the material.
Died in an interment camp to satisfy Hitler....such a loss to the world. May he rest in peace.
??
What are you talking about? He died in his sleep in his own house in Sweden 1960.
You’re thinking of Josef Schmidt, also a formidable tenor.
Спился... Алкаш!!!😢😢😢
