Ciò che colpisce oltre alla rarità del documento storico contestuale al prestigioso ambito ,e' l ' attenzione costante col viso rivolto ai due grandi artisti del Presidente Kennedy. Esempio di massima educazione , rispetto e partecipazione .
Yes. Kennedy's attention on the singers is striking. Both FC and RT are so good. I grew up with a more recent generation of singers but have come to appreciate these two more and more! Heart warming and thrilling!
What a moment! I spent my career as a US diplomat based at the State Department, but until know I did not know that that auditorium, with which I am quite familiar, had hosted two of my favorite opera singers of all time 15 years before I joined the diplomatic service. It's actually a pretty drab auditorium, so it's nice to think that at least once it was "lit up" by these great artists.
Three great people on that stage who are no longer with us and remind us of true greatnesses past. Neither today's opera singers nor today's politicians are in the same league. A touching way to commemorate Franco's passing.
You said it very well. We are living in vulgar, decadent times, where garbage is sold to us as gold, which most seem to be buying. Thank god for YT and all the recordings we have. Otherwise, we couldn't make a case against the modern world. I often walked past Corelli's building in NY, but never saw him, unfortunately.
Worth noticing that this is the Celebration of 100 years of Italy unification, held at the State Department Auditoriun on March 16, 1961. President Kennedy and the First Lady attended the ceremony and the President delivered a remarkable speech (you can find it online)
In my observation, this is the next available video of Franco singing live after the 1958 Forza. So happy to see him sing live during his prime days. Coincidentally, he's with Renata in both instances. I hope a lot of videos during his prime will emerge soon. Grazie.

This recital is priceless. Kennedy and Johnson are very attentive. Pity Tebaldi’s aria is cut short. Both are in splendid form. We’ve lost so much culture at this level. It’s just not done anymore.
I too have only recently begun to appreciate the artistry of Corelli, having not paid much attention to him until recently. His rendition of "Nessun dorma" IMO ranks among the best.
Historical concert for one hundred years of Italy’s unification, front of president Kennedy and his staff, of two among the best Italian singers ever Franco Corelli and Renata Tebaldi
wow this is so beautiful!!! they were a fantastic vocal duet, made in heaven, just like luciano and joan sutherland. I'm really sad "pace pace mio dio" was cut, would have loved to see it complete
This is simply a fantastic slice of history, we are incredibly fortunate that you have been able to provide a small momento of this day. Franco is youthful and dashing, he is singing even more sweetly and sensitivity than usual. Of course Ms. Tebaldi also sounds amazing. Any footage with JFK is truly special.

This is an absolute treasure of a film piece that Tebaldi made sure to have done for a friend. She knew what she was doing to capture the occasion of Italy's political time, but a more important fact was the great Franco Corelli singing, in his most great voice. Tebaldi was most respected by many other great sopranos during her career time. Both certainly stood as stars of another stratosphere, untouched, to this day. Too many singers can not seem to reach such a fine ability. But boy, no knew what was to come by the Golden Age of Opera; a one time of history that no one saw coming to be, and a wonder to how fortunate and stunned the world opera houses were over flowing with the audiences. We will never know a time as was then. Just as President JFK and his wife, First Lady Jaclyn, that set a respected White House restoration open to the public, as tgey brought out their best suits and dress styled for a whole new decade. As short a history, the unmatched presence of this film moment with dignitaries and DIVO/DIVA, presents many to talk of this valuably given historical time. Grazia!

She sounds great in Pace, Pace. I think I read that there were two "camps" about who was better, her or Callas. I've never understood why people go ga-ga over Callas. Renata sounds very powerful here. There's a hilarious audio glitch, just as she's about to sing a high note at 4:30, the audio makes a sound like the sound effect of a cartoon character slipping on a banana peel.

It would be wonderful to have the entire concert. The splicing isn't very good and if the surface noise could be cleared up that would be wonderful

Is the soundtrack low or did Corelli choose to sing the Lombardi in A flat? The aria is written in A major. Nevertheless he's fabulous
