I'm excited to be married to my future husband, the one God has so wonderfully prepared for me. My boyfriend & I talk about rings & marriage & at the end of the day we know what's most important, a covenant with our most faithful & loving God. We desire that our marriage & life would ultimately be a testimony for the glory of God...that our friends & family would see who God is as we walk forward in life as two becoming one. Our eyes are set on Jesus & a big or small diamond ring cannot compare to His most precious gift to us. I'm not opposed to engagement rings (nor the price of it) - it expresses that we are betrothed to the one we love as Pastor John explained. However, if our only focus as women is an engagement ring, we must realign our hearts & intentions & set our eyes on our Lord Jesus first.

Personally I don't think the woman even needs to know how much the man spends on the ring. If the monetary value of the ring is going to change her outlook on the relationship then the 2 of you shouldn't be getting married in the first place.

I appreciate you saying this, but it means nothing because men aren't the ones perpetuating this. I agree, but I also can't marry myself

$3K for a diamond ring?! I think my husband did a third of that and got a beautiful 0.3 carot diamond ring. The spirit of this question makes me think the asker may not be ready for marriage, though.
I agree and disagree with Piper on wedding receptions. Firstly, one should never spend money they don't have. The budget drives what is possible. However, there are ways to do meals that are MUCH cheaper than $10/15/20K. In this day and age, many couples have family members that travel hundreds or thousands of miles for the wedding, meaning a meal for guests is an obligation. A wedding represents a significant event, and it is right and appropriate to celebrate with feasting.

What most people don't know is that diamonds are not scare or that valuable at all. The ring you buy today you will not be able to sell at even half the price tomorrow. The whole diamond industry depends an holding up the myth of scarcity and value so as to fleece stupid in love people out of their money. There are Vaults in Amsterdam which hold literally millions of Carats of the best stones in reserve just to keep the markets from being flooded and the prices going down. Being part of such a money making scheme and fleeced out of massive amounts of money just galls me to my throat. Use that money for a college fund for your kids to come. If someone really values the other person and wants to present them with a token of their love there are other much better choices than a clear piece of high density carbon crystal that looks very much like glass.

What about a tattoo'd on ring? My work means I can't wear a ring for safety reasons. I'm not married yet but I've thought about that.

They did a podcast about tattoos. Though that concept on if tattoos are right/wrong changes among many Christians.

Can you wear a silicone ring? I'm in the military and lots of people wear silicone rings in the field for safety reasons.

Buy her the most expensive ring you can afford. It will bring her more money at the pawn shop when she divorces you.

Rings are tradition it’s not biblical… but like he said it does send the signal that hey I’m married… but honestly you can do without them. Men & women aren’t going to stop talking too you because you have a ring.. I don’t see we’re it’s wise to spend thousands of dollars on a ring when all it does is feed the vanity of the woman and allows her to flaunt it to others causing her to sin and others too become covetous. So should you get a ring ? We’ll it’s up too you but not required.. should it be expensive of course that’s up too you aswell but it’s definitely not required. What God intended to signify married couples is wearing a head covering in church fellowship to show that there under authority of a man. But of course in todays time not much people listen to the Bible anymore.

Men did stop talking to me when I had a ring
Edit: They stopped talking to me to such an extent that I'll wear one when I'm not open to being approached.

You shouldn't wear a ring if you aren't engaged or married. It is disrespectful to the Sacrament of Marriage.
