Russia reveals New Reuse Rocket over 100x to REPLACE SpaceX! Musk laughs...
“Bring it on,” Elon Musk just challenged Russia's space leader, who claimed their new rocket will put Falcon 9 reuse to shame.
So, what is Russia's new rocket?
How did this new rocket put Falcon 9 to shame?
Is Falcon 9 really at a disadvantage against it?
Let's find out on today's episode of Alpha Tech:
Russia reveals New Reuse Rocket over 100x to REPLACE SpaceX! Musk laughs...
The once-praised missile industry sector of Russia is now only a whisper of its former self.
They are experiencing a significant decline due to various factors, including outdated missile teams, government budget cuts, and the war in Ukraine pushing away Western customers. However, it is difficult for the leaders of this country to explain these difficult truths to the Russian people. Russians are justifiably proud of their country's heritage of space firsts and dominant position in space. Therefore, Russian officials typically try to bluster.
Russia reveals New Reuse Rocket over 100x to REPLACE SpaceX! Musk laughs...
This is something that the head of Roscosmos, Yury Borisov, recently did in a lecture at the Tsiolkovsky State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics. Before the audience of students and tourists at the museum, Yury Borisov made bold statements about the country's future rocket launch plans that left us hard to believe.

When Elon went to Russia to try to buy an ICBM, their representative spit on his shoes. Clearly the Russians should have fostered a better relationship. Elon gets the ultimate laugh. Go SpaceX!!

This is funny - how the world turns on a dime.
Russians spitting on your shoes is normal, and expresses solidarity not disrespect. But because of this cultural misunderstanding, Russia lost out, and Musk built SpaceX.

It is amazing how Russia, that has a rich and storied history in rockery and space has fallen on such hard times. They definitely have bright mathematicians and engineers. The hard question they should ask is - WHY? Why have they not innovated with such lead?
Perhaps Russia should privatize and let free market develop rockets there like it in the US. This will be a painful transition but well worth the effort as the current Government controlled centralized model is not working. We could definitely use the brain power of Russia as we try to make us an inter-planetary species. They would be well advised to channel their energy into productive areas instead of wars that does not help anyone.

Well, major difference is that spacex doesn't use cost+ contracts, so it got paid after delivery (some money is send after achieving milestones). Also contracts for SpaceX are substantially lower than those for Boeing (ie dragon is 55 mln per seat against 90mln on starliner). Starship is fully internally funded. HLS eventually can offset some of the cost when is delivered, but out of 3.2 bln, SpaceX got 855mln for achieving 30+ milestones. I like this model as it promotes cost reduction, innovation and speed, as money are not paid until it's delivered. Cost+ incentive to going over budget and delays.

Do not underestimate Russia. If we go out of the politics an focus purely on science/technical point of view, all pros are for Russia and not for the USA.
    1. Accidents in Space and uscussessfull missions - A lot more for USA than Russia.
    2. Casulties in Space programs - 17 for USA, 4 for Russia.
    3. Price per kg delivered in low earth orbit - still Russian's is unbeatable.
    4. Not to mention that USA doesn't have even a smallest exeprience in bulding facilities for long life support in space (apart from Skylab which didn't last long). The current ISS is built on the foudnation of the Zarya module and the entire experience of the former USSR and Russia afterwards - Space Stations 'Salyut' and 'Mir'.
The fact that russians space successes and are not widely displayed, in Hollywood style like Americans, is purely because of the culture difference.
I don't like when the politics are mixed with science and technology. Hence, it is not fair to say that Russians are Mr. Nobody in the space and Elon Musk is the only inventor there.
More over that his 'Do It Yourself' approach in building the spacecrafts, inevitably will lead to a new casulties. Remember the "Titan" disaster as an ocean analogy.
