The greatest tragedy here, is that since no one intervened early on, not only did her offending get progressively worse, her poor children were at her mercy their entire childhood. I can't imagine this cruel and vindictive woman showered them with empathy. Children don't have the power to just leave. This is how abuse becomes inter generational. We have to look out for the children.
She had already tried to dispose of her first baby on the tracks. I don't imagine she suddenly became a loving doting mother after that. And the poor kids of her last boyfriend. I feel so damn bad for them.

I completely agree! But I agree with Simon too tho! It's not an excuse...They have to take some responsibility too...I grew up in a really abusive house...but my kids haven't...it ran in the family until it ran into me! We control our future...

As a man who has had to report domestic abuse i can confirm that yes, you definitely get ridiculed for it and in my state, get treated like a criminal trying to hide his own crimes by gaslighting his partner.
Many hugs to you! Male victims of domestic abuse certainly get the short stick when it comes to reporting and getting anything done about it. I hope you are in a better place now.

In my case I was attacked, broke my nose by kneeing me in the face and then literally tried to bite my thumb off...
And then I spent the night in jail for all that...

My mistake was... Well I mean she was a mistake, clearly... But anyway when she was trying to chew my fucking thumb off I did punch her in the face to get her off, I was yelling, and trying to pull away, I pulled her hair she wouldn't let go. I could feel her teeth getting deeper and I finally just reacted after a big wave of pain hit... I hate that that happened but WTF was I supposed to do...
So the cops just believed her story over mine. I was the male in a domestic dispute and that was that.
As to why she attacked me in the first place?
In short she was bipolar and liked to play her little games which I was done with...
We were out for drinks, got late. I had to get home because the last train leaves downtown, she invites me to her place instead. I reminded her that there are no trains soon and that that would mean I would be crashing at her place. She agreed. Ha...
No joke about 3 minutes after the last train leaves she tells me "okay, it's time to leave"... I remember just staring at her incredulously... But I had known her for quite a while. We actually lived together for awhile at one point before this. I was more mad at myself for not seeing her bullshit coming. I just said "really?" She's like "yep" with a little smirk...
"Okay, thanks for this, guess I'm walking" and I got up off the couch, proceeded to the door and began putting my shoes and jacket on. Winter by the way...
While I was knelt down tying my shoe I guess her bipolar kicked in because she was mad I wasn't gonna play her fucked up little game. She wanted drama is what it was... she jumped up off the couch sprinted across the room to the door (small downtown apartment) and kneed me in the fucking face... Hour later I was in jail with assault charges, a broken nose and a fucked up thumb. No charges on her whatsoever... And I asked, they just ignored me.
In the end everything was thrown out of court, turns out I was not the first guy she did this same shit to... Fucking psycho.
If a woman EVER hints at being bipolar. RUN... Run far and fast and NEVER look back...

Agreed. She has a few traits more in sync with ASPD or at the very minimum some sort of fetish, a paraphilia.
She reminds me a lot of another very famous case: Jeffrey Dahmer. Dahmer was one of the few on record that scored very low on the test for psychopathy. Compared to Ted Bundy, who was one of the highest scores ever known on the Hare Psychopathy Checklist , 39/40, Dahmer was a lightweight. Low 20's. You need to score 30 or higher to be a full fledged psychopath.
And for further reference, Aileen Wuoronos also was diagnosed with BPD, but they also gave her the test. (The fact that both Bundy and Wuoronos ended up in prison in Florida is just a weird coincidence, but the world has the State of Florida to thank for having enough experience to know to give them the test.) It proved there was more going on with her than just BPD. 32/40. Just behind Ted.
Dahmer is believed to have had BPD, which is often overlooked as a diagnosis in males: it manifests itself a little differently in boys. The root is the same, but a man is more likely to get in a bar fight or act up or act out. Most do not become domestic abusers any more than any other population; in fact, they often act more like a silverback gorilla and rip stuff up during BPD fueled fugues. Dahmer as a kid most likely inherited his condition in part from his mother and also from the fact that his family environment was very unhappy and often neglectful of his emotional needs. He had severe dissociative episodes. Schizotypal disorder was also believed to be part of his makeup as the disconnect with reality was too strong to be only BPD: the man was obsessed with dissection and the connection between sex and violence for him is NEVER typical of BPD.
This woman was VERY unwell. At least as unwell as Dahmer and had a bit of something extra going on like Wuoronos.
And as for BPD as a diagnosis, some violence may be involved.
But not PREDATORY violence. Like I said, men with the condition usually have mothers, sisters, even wives that have all their limbs intact. They will go bonkers if anyone even alludes to harming them. Women may have an unquenchable fear within them.
They don't know when they have gone too far, unfortunately.
Read that female psychopaths often are borderline plus the distinct psychopathic traits. That and clinicians tendency to not expect females to be psychopaths and thus have a bit of a blindspot you can easily see how and why she could've been misdiagnosed as BPD.
Lesson to learn: Don't settle for a toxic relationship. Get the hell out of it.
That isnt always as easy as it sounds. Having been in one. The damage you on a mental level and make you see no way out, when there are several.

I had to leave after 10 years. I lost everything except my kids. It sucks, but I'm alive. I'm still trying to get on. The struggle is very real. It sucks more when your own family doesn't understand/care/believe you and disowns you.

Just an interesting side note: When she pled guilty the judge adjourned the case to have her assessed by several psychiatrists who all confirmed that she was sane and was able to fully comprehend her trail. This was to ensure that she could never appeal her sentence based on diminished capacity in the future.
Good on that judge, a very intelligent move cause I imagine with her demeanor now there could be some serious wiggle room for her to get a parole back in the deck.

It's often required by both sides. Both protects the defendant and the prosecution. Should only surprise us when it's a Knight or a Gacey and if they do not get such a psychiatric review.

Simon, if Kellett had taken the baby, Katherine could have called the police, and had Kellett arrested, when she'd have found out his address in court. The courts would definitely come down on the mother's side back in the 70's and 80's, especially if she had alleged Kellett was abusive, and our mental health facilities and procedures have never been great...
Edit: The first men's domestic violence shelter only opened in 2021 in Queensland. Resources for men who suffer domestic violence are thin on the ground unfortunately.
It's amazing how much she got away with. She wasn't even a good criminal, it was all done out in the open and everyone just kept letting her go.
I bet all my money that if a man did everything she did, the law would've stepped in way earlier...

Sexism hurts both the sexes I'm afraid. The double standards our society puts in place for both genders is horrific and pointless. I doubt Jeffrey Dahmer would have gotten away for as long as he did had police officer's bigotry views towards gays not clouded their judgment. A viewpoint only instilled due to a traditional toxic western view of masculinity.

I met Katherine Knight 7 or 8 years ago, and we actually had a bit of a laugh together....let me explain...
I am a technician whose job is repairing office equipment, and my company used to have the contract for Correctional Services in Sydney, including Silverwater Prison.
I had a job to do at the maximum security section of the womens prison. A few days before this, I had seen a tv doco on Knight, which mentioned that she was at this prison.
You have to be escorted by a large guard once inside the grounds, and I mentioned the doco to him, and he explained that yes, she was in this section of the prison.
Walking across the grounds, there was a building with a cyclone wire fenced compound at its rear, inside of which an inmate was operating a forklift right near the fence.
Our eyes met, and she called out "hows it going" to which I replied, "great thanks, yourself?
She replied,"Oh, I''m fantastic". I said that its a shame about the weather, as it had been raining for 6 days in a row, and she replied, "oh I dont care about the weather, I''m always happy". I said "good on ya" as we both laughed.
The guard and I walked on another 20 meters, and he said, "well you wanted to know if she was here, and now you"ve had a laugh with her. I said what do you mean, and he said "That was Katherine Knight, on the forklift" I spun around and looked closely and sure enough it was her, although she had put on a fair bit of weight from the old pics of her in the media, so I did not recognize her at first. I was so stunned and it felt so surreal, after watching the doco only a few days before. I had just had a chat with probably the most disgusting killer in Australian history.
Just be glad that was how you met her because other's didn't do so good.

Psychotic means someone experiencing psychosis which means a cut with reality aka hallucinations/delusions etc. It's a symptom of schizophrenia but everyone can experience it through drug induction (ecstasy for example), sleep deprivation, sudden blood loss, severe physical/psychological trauma, heat stroke, dehydration...

When you strip this case and boil it down to the basics, this case is horrifying.
I don't know, as a woman, if I ever hit a man first (which I never have, btw), I'd fully expect them to defend themselves... You should never hit your SO period, but if they hit first you have a right for self defense.

Wish you had been the cop when my mom attacked my stepdad with a baseball bat. (She had undiagnosed mental issues) He fought her off called the cops and the cops arrested him.
Glad someone said this. I hate that antiquated mentality. It's a pretty simple standard anyone should adhere to: If you assault someone, prepare to be assaulted back, regardless of gender. Don't like that? Don't freaking assault anyone.
You may have the right to fight back, but that doesn't mean normal people won't think badly of a man assaulting a woman as self defense. It's all wishful thinking. At the end of the day, the public will prefer to side with a woman until it's way too late and irrevocable damage is done.

I know a guy who got out of an abusive relationship a few years ago. She's still causing him problems in the court system (she lied in court, it was proven, about him abusing/stalking her). Sometimes I donate to men's DV shelters, they're not anywhere near as common as ones for women (last I looked there were like 4 total in the US). If I were to beat up my bf, there's a good chance he'd be arrested for DV even if he hadn't hit back. Likewise, if I were the one who needed a shelter, there's one across town just a few miles away. If he were the one to need a shelter, he'd have to travel across two states, hundreds of miles away. That just doesn't seem right to me. Many times I've seen chicks just casually smacking their bf/husband, and it's treated like nothing. "Oh, he's bigger and stronger and can take it", that's what people excuse it with, never considering that the emotional aspect is damaging, the disrespect or devaluation of a person, regardless of whether there is lasting physical harm.
In terms of reporting domestic abuse, I think it's equally difficult for men and women to report it but for different reasons. For men, there's stigma around it and the whole thing of felling like less of a man and the idea that it's not possible, while for women, there's the fear that you won't be believed or be called hysterical and there's also a lot of victim blaming.

I ain't ashamed to admit that an ex used to batter the crap out of me because I wouldn't hit back (would of walked but she was pregnant) One day when she went to the police with some crap about me attacking her, the police banged on my door at 4am nicking me for ABH. What she didn't know is that every mark she left on me, I took a pic so had quite a collection. I showed the police what I'd put up with for a year, they let me go with no charges.......and then didn't see my boy until he was 14 years old so even though I thought I'd got 1 over on her, I missed 14 years of my boys life.

One of my friends was domestically abused by his partner and tried to report it several times and once got laughed at by a cop. He ended up losing a couple of fingers before the cops took it seriously and he considered himself luck that they did. It is still a serious problem for men reporting violence against them.

I was in highschool at the next town over when this happened, one of my best friends at the time was loosely related to her.
I also dated a girl who was loosely related to her and lived in the same town.
Absolutely rocked the area when it happened, everyone was in a state of disbelief... kinda that "this sort of thing doesn't happen here!" mentality.
One thing that really bothered me about this case, aside from the obvious gruesome details, was that the sentencing judge made special mention about it being a woman he was sentencing and how hard it was for that reason.
I mean...come on mate, you shouldn't be a judge if something like gender can effect your judgement.

Except when politicians decide to appoint more females into political positions of power. They have a quota for women and LTGB regardless of the irony of equality they champion. This mentality has trickled down through to the corporate sector who use it as a marketing strategy to promote false sense of equality. This is my view from personal experience being bullied into writing favourable reviews in recruiting female and non white employees to satisfy quotas which attract government funding benefits for private institutions. Then when poo hit the fan and the female employee can't perform as promised the blame is projected towards the reviewer who failed to see through the cracks. The system is a failure on all levels. Gender politics does exist.
Thats what the law system is. I would call it a Justice system if there was any in it, but women always get massively less time then men.

@@slayingroosters4355 I've been in a relationship with a very manipulative person. You're absolutely right about that, at the time I didn't even realize it. Only after I was apparently not good enough anymore or just not interesting, idk, but I spent time with a friend I hadn't seen since getting together with her (because she didn't like me spending time with him, he liked to drink, and she hated that). He then pointed out to me everything that was wrong... Only then I really realized how fucked up that all was....
@@adenkyramud5005 I’ve been in a similar situation myself and usually am quite a bubbly loud person. For years I wasn’t myself. As soon as it had finally ended and I could look back wondering why on earth I stayed but at the time it was, she needs love, she needs support (anything for her nothing for me basically). I wasn’t allowed to see my friends or go anywhere without her because I had been out at work all day (she stayed at home or went to see her friends all day). My current girlfriend always tells me off for asking permission for stupid crap and would do anything for me so I’ve definitely come out of the situation much better off. I’m glad things worked out for you too! 👍🏿👌🏿
I knew a guy that grew up in a small town with a pig slaughter house. The citizens regularly rotated who would work at the slaughter house, to minimize the negative psychological impact of killing and butchering animals day after day.
That's actually a fantastic idea.
Dont they use they automated bolt gun so no one is actually doing the killing? The animal walk straight in to it and the doors close and the others lined up cant see and as its cruelty free they feel no panick or pain and no noise is produced for the others to hear and freak out. It all very orderly and sress free thank goodness.
I have no problem with the butchering part and have done it many times. Just not the killing.
Most places never see or hear any live animals, just see the carcess coming through.

@@Bellenickna we took our apprentice chefs for a tour of the abattoir and fish suppliers, the cattle do go into a chute where they are shocked (out of view of the other cattle), then the drop into the line, first job is a guy who has to slice the throat and get in to sever the aorta, its a pretty up close job, and the way its setup it was one guy that did that one job all day...

Australia let every one of her victim's down. It constantly amazes me how people can ignore warning sign after warning sign.
If she'd done this stuff in the US, she wouldn't have been out in time to kill Mr. Price when she did. Carjacking and kidnapping are among the most serious Federal felonies.
Keep in mind a lot of this happened in the 1970’s. Things now are definitely different, probably because of cases like this. Mental health and correctional services have changed a lot in all countries since then.
Back in those days there was no such thing as mental health. There was crazy and not crazy. The 90’s for us was when this started to be a thing and domestic violence is still the biggest killer amongst woman and children. Given the alcholic culture in Oz it makes this much worse and in the 00’s men still belived a womens place was in the kitchen and likely still do. I moved back to NZ as i found that part of the culture to much to handle being a sucsessful female. Got sick of the shit i always got from men.
This would also have been harder on someone like Pricey who was a miner. The whole concept of manliness among miners would have made it even harder
It being the 70's aside, mental health support in Australia has been pretty piss poor until the last few years and even then it's just better and not what I'd call good.
The whole system is incredibly fractured, and only a few dedicated hospitals exist, many of those not built until the 80's, the majority of which are urban (of which the entire area Aberdeen is in, most definitively not, closest city worth mentioning is Newcastle, what's like 2 hours away and even today has abysmal mental health support). There's really no government level support for dealing with mental health issues. There's funding, sure, but it's given to dozens if not hundreds of small independent organisations.
My exes mother warned me about her the first time i met her. I thought it was strange but should have listened. Four years of hell and abuse followed before i eventually woke up and left. I'm still mentally traumatised by it. Always listen to your gut feeling and never ignore the red flags. Ignoring red flags to see the good in people will cost you later.

As someone with Borderline Personality Disorder, I think it's important to note that people with BPD are not like this at all. It's not touched on a lot in this episode, but it's of course a stigma because the words sound scarier than what the disorder actually is. Just like many, many murderers claiming to "hear voices" as a way to excuse their disgusting behavior because of the stigma behind Schizophrenia.
I just really want to note that people with BPD (and many other mental disorders), may have incredibly intense emotions, but we are also some of the most empathetic and warm-hearted people you will ever meet.
You’d have to be incredibly stupid to pull the insanity card since that effectively means you’re never getting out and you’ll be pumped full of Thorazine to keep you docile.
You know what? Thank you. I have a bipolar disorder and it feels like every person I see who have committed crimes has the same diagnosis. I live with the illness and I work my ass off to try and break the mold in my family and to be the best mother that I can possibly be. My goal since my children were born is that I break the shitty cycle my family has gone through for generations. Just because BPD is a frequent diagnosis with criminals, it doesn’t mean that every one of us is going to go out and murder someone.

I know exactly how hard attempting to break an awful cycle with a mental illness can be, and I can just imagine your strength - between motherhood, bipolar disorder, and what you grew up in! I've heard due to the stigma of borderline its being renamed in the DSM. Mental health stigma is awful but we stand up with our heads high, we do our best, we treat people with respect & we show the world we are just as valuable to society as those without the experience we unfortunately have had.
I don't have BPD but I've met people with the condition & they struggle terribly, I've only known them to harm themselves not others. I have depression, anxiety, inattentive ADD & thanks to being raped by a co-worker PTSD - all exacerbated by an abusive 15yr marriage & the mental & emotional abuse that came with that. So I can't speak for you & what you're feeling but I"m behind you 100% no matter what (unless you leave your baby on a train track ;) because ultimately all we want is a tribe to belong to, to want us, to feel needed or useful, its what every single person on the planet needs regardless of their mental health. The lonliness that comes from having mental health issues is horrendous, I truly wish you all the happiness in the world.
If you don't mind me suggesting I found a lot of comfort in Buddhist teachings, its so simple & makes life so easy to understand. If you're open to it PLEASE look for a book called
"THE DHAMMAPADA". Its a collection of short verses eg "Hatred is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die" in short it only hurts us. There's short sayings that are applicable to absolutely every aspect of life. If you're religious don't worry, its not heresy, the buddha was a man not a god & buddhism respects all religions as long as they don't promote harming oneself or others. Katherine i don't know where you are but Im in Western Australia and like I just told @cheeohdohz I have depression, anxiety, inattentive ADD, PTSD and history of abusive family relationships.
I don't kill spiders, I help anyone I can but I am constantly treated like a criminal by the mental health services here. They turn up unannounced, they ask me to detail where I am going, who with, what I've eaten, dinner dishy suffice I have to explain how much I've eaten and how many slices of cheese for example. Despite having no criminal record they can and do whenever they choose to put me on forms (involuntary hospitalisation with a permanent security guard on me until they let me go) I feel like "I"m a criminal and they are waiting to catch me in the act"
The reason? I was beaten and raped by a co-worker, had to resign, couldn't bear going to work after that, shortly after my abusive husband told me to commit suicide, when I didn't he left me and the kids. I was depressed but despite that I got my 11yo daughter to school every single day, took her to counselling as she'd witnessed abuse and was developing panic attacks. My 17yo son (very under the thumb of my abusive ex, apparently its common for kids to side with the abuser) took her to my parents house for a swim while he was housesitting then refused to let her come home. I got angry, uric to push into the house to see her, we argued he called the police and Child welfare. I was absolutely distraught at what was happening so police took me to hospital, while u was there for 3 days DCP put my 11yo daughter into my ex's care who uses meth and pills, he's an alcohic, smokes pot like cigarettes, has had her hospitalised from injuries she suffered from his drug use, when she was 9 he left her on the street at about 10pm while he jumped someones fence drunk and fell asleep on their backlawn, he'd told the school I was dead, the list continues. I showed DCP evidence of everything but because I had depression they deemed her emotional welfare was at risk with me and put her in his care without even organising me to have time with her and without even checking in on her once they closed the case. I swear on everybody I hold dear I am not exaggerating. This destroyed me and after losing her and the worry not being able to protect her my depression got the better of me and I attempted suicide, that was 5 years ago and because of that I'm still treated like a criminal. My daughter no longer goes to school, she is on drugs, having sex, is constantly verbalising suicidal ideation, has no parental boundaries and I'm can do absolutely nothing.

DCP put my 11yo daughter with a drug using abusive and neglectful father because I had admitted suffering depression and the mental health services are constantly on my back waiting for me to say or do something to warrent being locked up and formed.
I don't know what its like in other countries but I never in my worst nightmares would have thought that anything like this could happen in Australia.
That's my story and I know there are hundreds like it. We have mental health struggles but we're not criminals yet we're treated like ones and our children suffer because of it. My daughter has been robbed. They think depression in a mother is worse for an 11yo daughter than a drug-using neglectful father.

Thank you for talking about male victims of DV. It is woefully under-reported. The Centers for Disease Control even did a study and found that Domestic Violence is roughly 50/50 between the sexes.
The resources for male victims of domestic violence globally are incredibly low. Many centers are dedicated to women, even when federally funded in the US, which is illegal. There is a victims shelter for men in Canada that received a lot of criticism and outrage during development and construction. I donated as much as I could to help them out.

@@Hromovlad1 dearie there's a lot of ways that oppression works. Men have their fair share of struggles that need to be addressed. Women's issues are unique and also important. Ever heard of the death penalty for abortions? The number of female and AFAB rape victims that are ignored? The general inequality and condecension towards women in technical fields? It's not black and white and *one* issue isn't going to prove or disprove that women are oppressed (and, I personally find that word has become a buzzword, there are a lot of women's issues that people neglect that could be labelled oppression). Society is a fickle beast and trying to push back against real concerns because someone *might* have it worse defeats the purpose of social reform. It needs attention for, and from, all sides.

I watched 2 fights in high school where dudes didn't defend themselves. One ended up with a broken nose, the other with stitches and serious damage to his testicles.

Sometimes abusers also limit (some of) the abuse to (a) specific individual(s), just because a pair of twins grew up in the same house doesn't mean they had the same childhood.
If you knock two glasses off the table and they both break, they will break in different ways. Though both made of the same thing, they will shatter in different ways - while one glass may break into a thousand pieces, the other may break into a jaged edge weapon. The same trauma affects two different people in different ways.
As an Australian I can say that in my experience this shows our mental heal are system in a good light. It’s been declining for years- there are countless stories of people desperate for especially crisis care and it just doesn’t exist. I know someone who has schizophrenia. You want to know how he used to get into hospital when he felt an episode coming on? He used to go to the local police station and jump onto the cop cars. If the police knew him and were unwilling to arrest him, he would take down his pants and wee on them so that he would be arrested for assault. He did this because he knew that after being arrested he couldn’t hurt anybody, no matter how bad his mental health got, and all he wanted was to not hurt anybody.
If you're of even a remotely sensitive disposition, you'll wanna skip this one. You can't unhear it. I remember being 8 years old, going to a farm to pick out a new dog. I think this had just happened and I could hear the breeder describing the whole thing to my parents in gory detail (you know, as you do when making small talk.. in the presence of children) and it really traumatised me.

My father and I stepped into an elevator with her after her suicide recovery. This was at the Mayter Hospital in Newcastle; where they had a secure psych unit on the 4th floor. We were on the third floor heading down, the elevator opened and she was standing at the back of the elevator cuffed and flanked by 4 police officers. Was super awkward and creepy. Now even more so i've heard her crimes in this much detail.

She got some co-morbidities with anti-social personality disorder, Narcissistic Personality disorder and possible psychopathy. Don't know if she had some paranoid delusions (the make believe cheating) also. There's no way she just had BPD. I have BPD and I'm not even a 0.1‰ of how violent she is. I could never leave my baby on train tracks or threaten the public with an axe!
@@marleyhill34 they did say she had post-partum depression. I've seen a case of a mother EATING her child because of that. It's some scary shit.
As someone recently diagnosed with BPD, i feel it varies from person to person. It was incredibly difficult for the psychiatrists to discern it from autism because BPD isn't that well understood yet.
@@alexgade4512 a lot of people with BPD are on the autistic spectrum or have an attention disorder. I think there is a difference between post partum depression and post partum psychosis. There's been quite a few instances where mothers have murdered their new borns.....a but more common than we would like to think. BPD does vary from person to person but the more violent people that I've met with it have some other co-morbidities.
I have BPD, if you pushed me far enough I can see myself killing someone. That’s extreme though, and you’d have to push me pretty far. I don’t think when I explode with anger so I could theoretically kill someone if I snapped. Wouldn’t last as long as it did for her though, I calm down pretty quick once I’ve exploded so it’d be soon to instant regret, not chopping people up, couldn’t see myself doing that.
If you have enough triggers and the wrong situation at the wrong time, anyone can pretty much explode and hurt someone.
@@DresdenShuffle Yeah with my BPD, I know people have been scared that I will hurt them during episodes. But I have a bit more impulse control, conscience and empathy that deep down I don't want hurt anyone. If I killed someone, I would definitely want to stay permanently in prison or some secure facility. I work daily to keep myself safe and keep others safe from me.
This crazy lived in the next town from me it was absolutely stunning. Everyone was totally blown out by it all. The thing that wasn’t mentioned is that after she killed him she took his bankcard and drove to the ATM in town and raided his bank account. This help to knock the diminished responsibility plea out of the picture.
“Last Podcast on the Left” did a good episode on her. The description of the police looking at the crime scene really struck me.
The saw her victim’s skin as a curtain of some kind at first, like their brains wouldn’t let them process what they were actually seeing.
They always favor the mother, sometimes to the danger of the child. Stuff like this makes me think the death penalty needs to be kept around for extreme circumstances.
I remember reading about this when it happened, made all the more chilling for me personally for the fact that I myself was in an abusive marriage at the time. Unfortunately, as in many cases even today, being a man on the receiving end of said abuse meant that any physical, psychological, or emotional trauma was patently ignored, while any attempt to defend myself would immediately be interpreted as me myself being the abuser. The unfortunate but simple fact is that men are simply not believed or are told to "man up". If this is indeed changing for the better then it is long overdue, and I would highly encourage any young men who find themselves in a similar situation to seek assistance from the services mentioned at the end of the video so that they don't end up broke, homeless and living in their car as my kids and I did (or worse).

I ain't ashamed to admit that an ex used to batter the crap out of me because I wouldn't hit back (would of walked but she was pregnant) One day when she went to the police with some crap about me attacking her, the police banged on my door at 4am nicking me for ABH. What she didn't know is that every mark she left on me, I took a pic so had quite a collection. I showed the police what I'd put up with for a year, they let me go with no charges.......and then didn't see my boy until he was 14 years old so even though I thought I'd got 1 over on her, I missed 14 years of my boys life.

@@aussieausdeutschland4245 I can relate to the emotional scarring, still got a couple of the physical ones too. The classic was our boys 20 week scan. I wanted my keys back cos I was fed up with her smashing my place up, bleaching my clothes etc so she decided to sink her teeth into my arm outside the hospital and the only way I was allowed in was with a security guard each side of me in the scan room and all that, in front of my mum. I've not been really serious with anyone since cos I run a mile when I think things might go that way and looking back, I wish that I'd put her flat on her arse the first time she hit me, I might of been a bit of a git but she might of walked one way, me the other, I would now be a better version of me and I wouldn't of given her a second thought.... but, to her credit. When my boy said he wanted to meet me, she contacted me which was about 8 months ago and been to see him a couple of times, feels a bit surreal though. Suppose I'm the response of being told to man up, grow a pair and don't hit women, you try and live by that principal but it doesn't always work out how it should.
Quick comment about the ending of the video : I've read and watched a lot of stuff about psychopaths, sociopaths etc. Apparently, they DO get "softer" as they get older, so it wouldn't be surprising that she's adapting, developing *some* positive social skills, and calming down inside. I've heard that from professional psychiatrists, anyway. Apparently there are studies to back that up. Still doesn't quite mean she can be trusted and released (for what it's worth, it might be a calculated facade of "look I'm not dangerous anymore").
Right I heard the same recently. For a variety of reasons but they all make sense. One being peoples “energy” tends to wind down as they get older, the thrill may slightly change and lower, not to mention they’re already apprehended so they can’t go on sprees like before (oh, darn! 🫤) I’m sure they still daydream and absolutely relish in their memories (sick)
When my kids grow up, I hope male survivors of domestic abuse are treated equally by society and the law.
Every survivor is amazing in my eyes. You have made it this far, and that’s great.
I also want to add that, while PTSD is very difficult to work with, there are some positive treatment options (EMDR, Psychotherapy and other forms of trauma therapy) and there are people working on improving that every day. So please don’t give up if you have PTSD, because you can still have a good quality of life 💜

I think in people under 30-35, there are some big cultural changes. I also think the legal system, media and such are run by older generations who are less inclined to employ younger folks who aren’t conservative.
I really do think change is happening, it’s just taking it’s sweet time getting to the big places. On a social level there are actually a few charities for men now, which is a huge difference! They need more funding, we need to talk about it more and support EVERYONE better. But I genuinely thing change is happening.

My wife lived in Australia. was married to an abusive man. He Choked her and threw her against a wall. When she got free and grabbed her daughter and hid while she was hiding he was running around outside with a shotgun firing it and screaming how he was going to destroy her. She called the cops which took 30 minutes to get there( we were friends (I lived in the US at the time) for years and she called me after calling the cops. I heard all the gunfire and the cops getting there.). They arrested him. 5 hours later they called her to come to pick him up as they were finished booking him. The Domestic violence laws are nuts there.

My ex-wife was emotionally and mentally manipulative and abusive. Even manipulated my own son to be afraid of my entire family, who were supportive of her and my son the whole time. Abuse is still abuse, physical or not.

I read the book about her when I was 19. My she was a piece of work. The book was passed amongst family and friends, and 20 years later we still make remarks like "I'll feed your kids soup" when we're annoyed.

And for the headlock story, abusers are experts at lying. I was in an abusive relationship. I never used violence, not even to defend myself. The story my abuser is telling anyone and everyone that will listen is that I am crazy and that he only defended himself or had to use force to stop me from hurting myself. Abusers lie.

I have seen multiple abusive relationships, both psychological and outright physical. Sadly in my experience the majority of these were the woman abusing the man. (Edit: my experience only, the data still clearly shows men as a more common abuser).
Male and female abusers all seemed to create the same sorts of excuses this criminal did to justify their excessive and abusive responses to relationship stress.
Folks, never ever sit by and let abuse happen. Let the victim know you are there for them. Record incidents for future prosecution, and report them if possible.
Additionally, (taking into account your local culture/police force/laws) feel free to beat their ass if you can, and at least defend yourself.
Boobs and Dicks...they aren't an excuse to be able to act with practical immunity.

I was in a psychologically and emotionally abusive relationship about 10 years ago. I'm still fucked up from it, and feel there's nowhere to really turn from it. Tried a help line once and was told flat out "we don't help men."

Also, I would like to point out that this study is based on self reporting and perception. Often survivors of domestic violence minimize their partner's role in the abuse and take on much of the blame. It is also extremely common for the instigators of the violence to not accept responsibility and deny their role in abuse.
Grew up with a stepmom almost exactly like this. After 25 years, she hasn’t killed my dad, but every time I can’t get a hold of him for a day or two… All family and friends start calling around and looking… Because we all know she’s going to kill him eventually

Thank you for the last part. I was in a abusive relationship a few years back and in the military, and was asked every day why I was 'fighting down the town'. I wasn't, I was getting the shit kicked out of me at home and felt I couldn't say anything and just took it for my kids. Thankfully out of that and better for it. It's horrific for anyone to deal with that, and it's really awkward to try and explain it. Thankfully I have some really good friends who lit a fire under me to get it sorted. I was more scared of fighting back because I'd be the monster then :( Last time it happened she went after me with a 9 inch knife and she found out what Infantry can do when she got Judo chucked through a door. That was a fun chat with the police.

Yeah the horror they must've gone though knowing she served them their dad...
their mother never told them the truth about what happened to him, they only found out years later when one of them came across a news article about it in the paper, when they were older and assumable better able to handle it (though how well could anyone handle that). I actually think this was probably a good parenting choice to protect them.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but Hannibal Lector had a basement, that is mentioned in Red Dragon. You never hear about what Dr. Lector had in his basement, but it is Mentioned by Dr. Lector that the first person who went down there was a local Baltimore Sheriff's Deputy who after being the first to see the basement was never the same and developed emotional problems according to Dr. Lector.

I'm crazy and I live alone. I avoid people because it's never pretty when I lose my shit. The last time it took, 4 police officers and two clinical staff to bundle me into the ambulance and I'm a woman. Luckily no one was physically harmed. Psychologically probably traumatised.

I got my masters in Criminology last year, and every time Simon has an overreaction, he reminds me of a lovely person I met in the graduate program. We went through some of the most gory and difficult classes, but we had each other as study-buddies for over a year. Also, Australian law & mental health systems are improving when it comes to child protection & domestic violence. One of my friends had an abusive partner & he was able to get custody of his daughter before she was left on railroad tracks & that was 3 yrs ago
It's really common for those abused to return to the abusive relationship whether female or male.
I like the ending where they talk about abuse hotlines (even if it was forgotten to be linked in the description). You see some the inherent problems with laws around abuse and the difficulty in abuse cases for both genders. At least one of the reported cases just got thrown out because testimony disagree, the guy's friends refused to talk to the guy in an abusive relationship essentially pushing the blame onto him (and making him more reliant on the abuser for companionship) and repeatedly gaslighting the victims. His friends say they pleaded with him not to go back but not a single one went with him to get the kids despite the obvious physical abuse and him repeatedly "joking" about how his wife is going to kill him. Social stigma often goes against the abused just as much or more as the person abused and while less common can be even worse when the abused is male. The abused often get told to "just" leave, people ignore the signs, the abused tries to hide it or it becomes a joke.
Remember, if you are ever abused or think you know someone who is you can contact a hotline for advice and guidance to help.
Listening to Simon freak out when these things inevitably go sideways is one of my favorite things.

I remember this case (I'm in Aus) and the poor officers that had to go to the scene. There is a great documentary on it that interviews them and interviews Priceys mates that detail the psychological abuse he suffered and the hold that cow had on him explaining why he hadn't left. If children weren't involved I think he might have but she was a great manipulator. She will never get out, the whole country hates her too much.
He was addicted to sex, actually their relationship was mainly sexual. He didn't want to marry her and left her out of his will. Katherine was messed up good and Johnny knew about it but he wouldn't leave the sexual benefits.
The same happened with Jodi Arias, the guy had no intentions of marrying her but still smashed and dumped while keeping his "good mormon boy" image. Even after breaking up he kept on meeting Jodi for sex, he had sex with her the day she killed him 😑. I don't know why people do this, I think they are the ones who think hold the control because the woman is so willing to please them sexually.
I wouldn't date a man who I knew had been violent to previous partners, I also wouldn't date a man I didn't love him or had serious intentions of building a future and i would just date him to extract resources from him. That's cruel.
There are many men like Katherine who actually commit murder out of perceived jealousy or triggered by perceived abandonment.
I've been used as well and it's soul breaking, damaging. I didn't want to k1ll him or harm him but the pain and anger against myself was so great i wanted to end up my own life.
I think Katherine had bpd with sociopathic features because this disorder rarely externalizes rage but internalizes as self harm and suicidal behavior.

I'm a child from an abusive, divorced marriage and let me tell you, when things get violent enough that physical harm comes, there is no excuse then and the couple has to breakup and keep distance or else bad things happen, and it always falls upon those who raise their hands first, Katherine butchered someone out of emotion and even by some god miraculous grace she was on the right side, she still did the most lowest thing possible that we wouldn't even do to our greatest enemies in war.
