    It seems obvious to me why it's a twin record deck: you can record without interruptions, it offers the possibility to record to two tapes at the same time in order to have redudancy, and as a bonus it can be used to make copies of a tape. It's a nice deck, it would be nice to record live performances.

      It actually has a feature where it'll record on the left tape and then automatically continue on the right!

    Interesting device. I'd say still fix it. My assumption is if you played that tape on the otherside the audio would have been tracks 3 and 4 and reversed.

    the reason why it has 2 decks is so that the person being interviewed can have a copy to give to a solicitor, I have a recorded interview of a friend of mine handed to him after requesting a copy, both tapes have a timed voice over that will match the copy the police have

    • @pwrestoration
      @pwrestoration  Месяц назад

      It also will automatically rollover the recording to tape 2, quite snazzy

    Was there any recording on the reverse side of that recovered tape?

    • @pwrestoration
      @pwrestoration  3 месяца назад

      No - the funny thing is I put the tape in, in reverse, the first time I tried this. It was the same voices but incredibly quiet, and instead of track 1 it picked up on track 4. Realised the turned the tape round for the video, and reshot.

    Wow, these will not have been cheap. Think about it, Sony/Akai/Pioneer etc, designed and made 100,000s for worldwide production. However, how many did this company sell ... maybe a few thousand, maybe ten thousand? I dunno. Awesome.

    Sticking 240 up it was brave. You must have been born with jam on your arse!
    Have you thought about overclocking the motors? If you follow the leads from the speed selector switch on the back they will lead you to the very components that may enable it. Add some line outs and you've got a studio quality 4 track deck

    Interesting Video Paul, I would’ve just spliced that bit of Tape to the end of the Tape that you removed from the Cassette if it was me but now knowing what was on it and the fact that it wasn’t super important and it worked with how you’d done it so job’s a good one as they say, I had to chuckle with the: “58008” in the Display, It took me a minute to work out what you were chuckling at and then I remembered the Calculators from back in the 70’s & 80’s, Glad to see that it worked with UK Voltage too! Funnily enough I actually got the tape upside down the first time. It still played but it was on channels 3+4 and was very quiet (as it was playing from 'underneath'. I realised my mistake and corrected it for the video to get a successful playback

    I have a saved search for the Sony BM-246 w the thought of finding someone who could convert it to a 4-track machine for creating music. Would be amazing to see you pull that off. Surely you couldn't record all 8 channels at once with your unit, right?
