Your timeline is wrong, Kaepernick sat the first preseason game, and then sat again the second preseason game it was the third preseason game that a reporter noticed Kaepernick that Kaepernick wasn't standing and asked Kaepernick after the game why and Kaepernick explained why, he initially sat between the coolers not to distract and it was the reporter's question of why he was sitting which prompted Kaepernick to explain his deeper meaning of why.
