- ahhh well I didn't plan to make this video but since the fishing overall for this day was kinda beat and this poaching incident struck me in a weird way of whether or not I did the right thing maybe this will help as a whole for all fisherman and women to promote regulations, and catch and release.
You did the right thing man. Good call. But you are lucky that guy wasn’t aggressive with you!
Honestly even though violence wouldn't have been necessary, it would've been hella fun and sometimes bad kids need their asses beat 🤣🤣🤣
That dude wasn't homeless but I seen homeless people keep illegal fish. Cheapest way to get a meal is catch it. There's was no limitations in the bible for a man that's hungry...just saying.
@@DanSanChannel not sure about america but in australia it is legal to keep a fish of any size if it plays a role in your survival, fir example you are a missing person and lost
@@DanSanChannelno one gives a shit what it says in the Bible. Regulations are in place to protect these species from extinction. We’ve already caused the extinction of countless species and many more are near threatened. Have some respect for the world.
The bible cant overrule a law u mf, just cuz the bible says something doesnt mean its legal lmao@@DanSanChannel
Not saying you did anything wrong, but...
You should have called fish and game, or the appropriate body of authority. You might have saved those two fish, but that’s obviously not the first time he has done that, and unless he gets busted by someone with the power to take his license away, it won’t be the last either.
Nice work saving those two fish. Some people suck.
The creep might have been armed and got aggressive.Call game wardens.
Doesn't matter if he had his license removed or not, if hes already breaking the law then what makes you think a piece of paper would stop him from fishing?
I think you did good even if no one else did if you had called someone by the time they got there the fish may have not made it so you did good 👍🏻
@@RickyTricky90 They would have made him pay though. At least he got caught and felt shamed.
Ricky Kline I don’t think anyone is willing to get fined over and over just for a couple fish. Come on use your brain now
You absolutely made the right call. He buried them in the sand, he knew he was wrong. You can't stop poachers but you've gotta call them out & make it hard for them at least. Good job man!
whats funny is that the real poachers are the commercial fishing industries and you guys don't do S**T about them. they are destroying, literally destroying the ocean, by scaping the ocean FLOOR as big as a football stadium. it will take years, more than decades for life to grow back on those ocean floors. by the year 2050, nearly 70% of ocean life will be decimated. you see underslot striped bass at the market and do you open your mouth? no. you think these recreational poachers are the culprit, right. he sure made the right call. give the commercial industries, the CHARTER BOATS (DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THEM, CATCHING A RELEASES NEARLY THOUSANDS OF FISHES WEEKLY; killing 30% from catch and releases, fileting on the BOAT, before DOCKING???? you know)....they get a free pass. get that F**king poacher on the beach. for god knows, hes making a significant dent on the eco system.....you did a good job. ABSOLUTELY we should play by the rules! not fair for us. 100% agree with you there, but the focus should be redirected to whats REALLY causing the damage... it was cool though when he released those fishes.
Can't stand poachers. Call fish n wildlife on em. Get em fined. If they never get actual punishment they'll never stop!
You never really know who you’re dealing with these days. You take a risk of getting attacked over a fish. Use your phone and call it in. You really didn’t do anything bc he’s gonna keep poaching. Had you called the game warden, the guy could have been fined. Your safety is worth more than two fish. Keep up the good work and be safe.
You do have the right idea... but A speeding ticket is not going to stop a speeder...
No, but if he's caught as a repeat offender the penalties escalate. A speeder who's repeated issued tickets coupled with increased insurance premiums will at least speed less often
Poaching affects the fishery which is our business. Why don't you share with everyone where you intend on fishing/poaching so you can "ko" all the rats
Right!!!!!your the reason the world is so fucked up....and I bet you couldnt fight your way outa paper bag
Tu Ho still what he was doing was right

OG Timbercraft what would I have done without you.
OG Timbercraft thank you😊
OG Timbercraft that's the top of the globe
Yeah, union beach is usually filled with tons of poachers, I talked to a game warden who said they find people over there with illegal fillets in their waders. I was over there Saturday and found the creeks loaded with small bass carcasses. You did the right thing by releasing those fish. 👍
Yeah I wonder what the fine is for those people or is it just a slap on the wrist...
FishAholic Fishing Congrats on 25k!
+FishAholic Fishing .lol
.what are the laws on commercial excavating"..Stripping all the fish????
NortheastAngler He did the homosexual thing. Big gay.
The intentions are good, but it's not worth getting into a confrontation over a fish in my opinion.....I've seen all kinds of shady characters on the water.....One thing I know I always have with me when fishing is a knife.....I'm sure I'm not the only one.....On an isolated strip of beach, people can get all kinds of ideas, and probably skate away clean under the right conditions.....You wanna intervene, call the authorities and let them handle it.....BTW, I seriously doubt he would've ran up on that guy like that if he wasn't an old man.....
A call to a game warden might have been the way to go, but I'd probably do the same thing. As a former marine biologist I saw many people poaching in my day. The short sightedness of a poacher is they don't see the future of the sport. Back in the 70's excessive disregard for stripers led to their downfall where strict regulations had to be employed. It's the same thing with any species. Catching a bucket load of snapper blues back in the day was stressing the overall population in time. Sure they came back, but a ten fish limit was also put in place. I hunt as well. There are plenty of deer in my state, but an area I would hunt had a good population and we would take a deer or two from that area each year but then let it be. When this group of guys came in and poached literally every deer including the young of the year, that area was devoid of deer for over six years. Yeah, they are back, but not like before. Simply put, you kill everything to a point it won't recover, then you ended that forever. Moderation is the key. I also hunted ducks. For a while Black Ducks were off limits due to low populations. Just because the area I hunted had tons of black ducks did NOT mean I could shoot them. So we abided by the rules and left them alone. Years later, the OVERALL population recovered enough that you could shoot them again with specific limits. It's called management. The laws are there to protect the species and the sport. It's that simple.
Dude I am a new sub for you fam. Your integrity is inspiring. It makes me sleep easy knowing that there are people like yourself that actually fishes with a sense of respect for the field. The field will pay you back my friend. Keep on fishin and I look forward to watching more of your content.
Go to the wrong spot and do that and bullets may fly. Always call dnr or game wardens
LMAOOO where are these spots?
@@iliriandisha9099 what you never heard of the fishing bloods and fishing crips?
I actually saw someone get stabbed for doing something similar to this video.
Dr. Funk That sounds like something you just made up. I’ve never heard of or seen that
@@bassmaster117 I was being sarcastic. It was a joke.
Just don’t get hurt people are crazy. Not enough people stand up I think you did the right thing. Thanks for protecting the fishery.
Yeah some people are not right in head and would agressive
This is so true, I’ve had people catch bass that haven’t even spawned yet and they be taking them out of the lake, and I’ve told them that isn’t the right thing to do and the guy got mad and told me to shut up and he threaten me with his pocket knife
Andale Axl
carry a gun, then you won't be scared to do the right thing.
The way I look at it, you did two right things: 1) you save two under side fishes, 2) you save that fisherman a potential of getting two citations.
I take a very hard line on poaching. Poachers are the scum of the earth. They deserve no sympathy, no human understanding, no breaks whatsoever. What they deserve is to get their fishing and hunting licenses revoked. They deserve every bad thing that happens to them. They don't have any respect for wildlife, so screw 'em.
I think saving that poaching son of a bitch from getting a citation was not a "right thing." The "right thing" is going out of your way, whenever feasible, to see to it that every poacher gets cited. I've stopped fishing, hiked back to my car, and drove until I had cell reception just to turn in lowlife poachers. And I make no apologies for it. I think it's a moral obligation. You gotta watch out for your personal safety, of course, but stopping poachers is really, really important. If every poacher knew that every other fisherman/hunter out there absolutely will turn them in, poaching wouldn't be as big a problem as it is.
gotta be careful man. you never if those poachers are crazy and try to hurt you.
First video of yours that I've seen, good for you brother. You did the right thing. You always have a right. Here in Michigan, your more or less obligated to stand up to poachers. Good job.
dude good for you I always try to give people keeping undersized fish a hard time it can be awkward but its worth it
Awkward as in they're not getting the hint? Lol
When you buy a license do they tell all the sizes you can take home?

A lot of people in the comments are saying to call the fish and wildlife officers. If the fish were already dead, I would totally agree, but if he had called them, those fish probably would have died while the officers were on their way over. It’s worth it to save the small fish. Good job dude!
Dude, what an engaging video. It amazes me how you seasoned RUclipsrs can make adventures so interesting without catching fish. Looking forward to the next video!
Rad Reeling Fishing lmfao
Honestly you did something I’d do. I’m no rat but that stuff really pisses me off. I fish mostly the Long Island Sound up the Bronx/Westchester County Coast or occasionally L.I. and Montauk. I’m 6’5 and an imposing figure but never trouble or a bully in my life but that type of thing really hits a nerve esp when they’re trying to be slick. Yes out there it’s prob safer to call DEC but F that I’ll go right up to them and usually the look in my eyes is enough. Burying a couple of poor schoolies. SMH. Good Job!
Awesome job. We need more ppl out there like you! The rockfish population is definitely starting to suffer again
A lot of that is the gill netters down south.
That was awesome, Rich. Striper poaching is a big problem in Maryland. Thank you for doing that.
Bro...good job conserving our fisheries...two fish may seem like nothing but at a certain point the numbers add up and then there are no more bass and the ecosystem is ruined...you did the right thing
Man, you absolutely did the right thing and more than most would do. RESPECT!
o shit gettem rich. good work

it was the right thing to do man. it ruins it for the rest of us.
Rich, MAD respect for doing what you did. Took balls man. Confrontation like that can be nerve-wracking. You were a straight boss. Always been a big fan. I'm hoping I'll meet you out in Montauk this summer and we can do some surf fly fishing together. Keep on truckin
That was the right thing to do. There are laws for a reason. A short that isn't even a half inch within the keeper limit just hurts the fishery every single time a poacher is ignored or not caught.
You did the right thing. The guy was lucky you didn't call the game warden. Hope he learned from this. Thank you.
I'm not usually a "follow the rules" kind of person, but wildlife laws exist for a reason. Striped bass is a fish that has narrowly avoided the brink of extinction twice in the last forty years. I sure do like seeing poachers get their just desserts but I'm not sure how much good you can do fining people for keeping shorts. I'd much rather see fishermen policing other fishermen out on the water than have us all calling DEC on each other. I love the steal-and-release of short fish. I've done that a few times myself.
Good job calling that goober out. Limits and Regs are good for fisherman. What an a hole.
You did the right thing, there’s so many poachers now, it’s up to us fisherman to report illegal activity. I wouldn’t recommend doing something about it (like confronting or throwing away poachers catch) because some people are crazier than others 😅
You should have called the fish and game on him
It’s even harder to catch keepers when people are keeping illegal fish. I’m proud of you man!!
Next time dont say anything.Just call the Game warden.Let him pay a hefty fine. That will hopefully teach him
J Rdz. People need to stick up.
Suzy McCalin yea but stick up to the wrong person and you’ll end up getting hurt
@@dashawnfelton59 Thats why i said just call the warden😈
J Rdz. Yea I seen that but most people if they see u callin they go throw it back or pack up and leave
The guy wasn't starving or trying to feed his hungry children. I believe that you are 100% correct. Much cheaper than the Fish and Game getting him as well.
Bravo.
Handled it well without starting drama and just letting him know you knew and you weren’t having it.

They should do a range on the size of stripers. 28in to 32 for example. Leave the big breeders alone. Striper stocks are definitely down.
Yeah that's called a slot limit. They started to do it here with walleye and the population has increased.
Great Job we need more honest guys like you. Right on

As a fisherman, hunter or whatever, it is MY business. I've severed friendships. I even left a church for among other things, the pastor thought it was ok to poach pheasants with other pastor friends. When I asked about the ethics I was told Brother whoever knows everyone, we won't get caught! Illegal is illegal. I'll call you on it if I catch you.
Rich, way to go brother. You did the right thing. I ran across a poacher a couple of weeks ago doing the same thing. I saw a guy bait fishing and he was hiding short bass in a plastic bag. I told him to throw the fish back in the water since they were schoolies. He ignored me and pretended to not hear me? I took out my Iphone and took a picture of him and the short bass. He got pissed but I was more pissed. Occassionally there are cops in the beach parking lot. I was hoping to run into a cop to inform him of this MOFO keeping illegal fish. I wanted to have the picture to identify this poacher. But no police around. It's just not right. You made the right call brother.
yeah i've made many calls over the years at this same stretch of beach and no officer has showed in time to really doing anything. I've seen this and what you described many times over up and down the east coast. I think seeing these guys get away with it time and time again finally I just hit a very irritated point and said something to this guy. But truly if he just took the fish and left I really wouldn't done anything or if he had them in a bag or cooler in his possession I wouldn't of done anything either.
supremekarate1 wait till the guy leaves take a picture of him getting in his car with his license plate turn it into the DNR he will get ticketed
Just a question but what if the fish gets hooked in the gills and dies but it is too small to keep. Should you still throw it back?
U did the right thing, my friend and I do that frequently, almost got in a few fights over it. Rules are set for conservation, end of story
Rich you did the right thing. If everyone did that then these guys will stop doing it. Law enforcement can't keep up with it alone. It takes people taking action. If these guys know that regular anglers are ready to step up then that will have way more impact than making a call.I hope everyone watching here follows your example and let's people know you play by the rules and go one better. You have to remember the rules are the bare minimum and real anglers go over and above that.
It's all about conservation and preserving the resource. I am proud of you for doing what you did and makes me happy to support your work.
Awesome job bro, I do the same thing up here at the canal!
You have no right to.
Dr Ft okay? if someone stole from the store or your friend, would you say something or do you “not have the right to”
You can say whatever you want, but you cant take it out of their near possession and return it back if you are indeed the third person here.
Not only is it none of your business, you also can get hurt. Best to call the cops.
Dr Ft that's cool. Im sure the game warden wont mind
You did the right thing.it takes s lot or courage, don't ever question yourself. You saved the lives of two fish that should never have been kept.
4:44 , you’re welcome
Every grandfather ever. A bad day fishing still beats a good day working.
Save our fisheries! Next time... report poachers, don’t approach! 🤙🎣
DEAP Water Guide You’re right I was fishing at San Luis pass and a Group of Chinese came and started cast netting right when everyone started to catch speckled trout and none of them were big enough to keep and I ended up going to the cooler and dumping it out and all the fish went back They weren’t happy about it
I’m Pacific Islander but I have to say it seems like the orientals here are always keeping under sized or illegal fish. I was fishing at a pier and saw one catch 10 baby sharks. Immediately went down to the water gutted them then ran to the car. Game Wardens received their plate number
Not saying what you did was wrong, but I worked on the water most of my life, river, bays, ocean, commercially. That's where the rock fish population may dwindle a bit, not from 2 fish a old man caught, and I hope they were not his only source of food that day. Most wouldn't agree unless you worked the water like myself, and truthfully the decline of rockfish has been proven wrong a few times. When the crab population dropped it was the rockfish that were blamed. In Maryland that is. I've caught small one's with over 50 baby crabs in there gut. Like I said, i think over catch is a big problem, people catching thousands of pounds over in a single day by net. 2 fish caught undersized in my eyes is no problem at all, but someone has to pay for all that fancy DNR gear, so they ticket poor people up too 500$ a fish for catching a couple small rock fish to eat, and most know about the over catch commercially but dont do anything.
Good on you dude, down here in Florida the poachers are harsh on the drum. Both are slot fish. Red drum aka redfish gotta between 18and 27 in limit two and the black drum 14-24 but u can keep 5 with one over 24 with the blacks. But the thing is the poachers usually take the over slot fish because they're big I guess. Thing they don't know is that these fish are born male and only produce eggs or turn female when they become mature or large fish. So the damage o taking a over slot fish can really effect the fishery. Keep up the pro fishery fish my dude
I saw a guy get busted for cast netting game fish. He had 25 bass, which is 20 over the limit, and a load of other stuff. He had a previous citation for fishing w/o license. Another fisherman tried to tell him but he just waved it off. This guy wasn't some poor guy trying to put meat on the table-he left in a brand new SUV. If you're going to poach, don't be stupid about it, and don't be a greedy punk.
👍
I know a lot of folks (rightly) say call game warden etc for your own safety. Then again, manning up and doing the right thing is never a bad way to go about it.
I do what you did bro :)
People think they are so slick if they do something like that. Good work there man not a lot of people do this and you are a fine example to sportsmanship
You should've called fish and game. You did a great thing by releasing those stripers but in the long run, calling fish and game on that guy would've been the best option because he will continue poaching
That's because there are people that don't believe that the planet is overfished. I had an argument with a commercial fisherman that believes that overfishing is a fraud.
Always enjoyable to watch your channel really good content. You definitely did the right thing i have seen it in Boston. Last year
there was five or six guys putting them in a garbage bag in the barrel on the walkway. Me and my cousin dumped all their fish back all made it but one they was pissed. But rules are there for a reason everyone should follow them . Have a good day and stay safe Jimmy from Massachusetts
Thanks Bro! Yeah when the fish first moved up to the providence river the last two years in RI I've seen the same thing guys dragging garbage bags full of shorties so full they can't lift the bag. Sad to see but usually its like 4-5 guys i'm not going to jump into that or they would probably ruin my day haha.
I was fishing Crappie here in Texas and had a lady (with her husband) come up to me and ask my why I was releasing them. I always let them go but I tell her that they got to be 10 inches to keep and all she has to say is, "oh, really?" and walks off. Bastards probably keeping every fish they pull in. Ruins it for everyone.
When you first told him nice keeper there and you pointed with your rod that was the right move to do and then I would have told him to throw it back but you had the balls to reach down and actually take it from in between his legs that's when I started laughing maybe that was a little too far. But in the right sentence you going to play the game play the game right fish on brother
HOLLYWOOD DTF I have done it plenty of times ruins it for people who play by the rules .
wouldn't really say balls. the guy was an old man.
I would have kicked him in the head
Robert Curtin cool story bro.
Robert Curtin lmao got em
Enjoy your show! Could you tell us where you bought your Live Scan set up and is there anything you would do different? Thanks in advance!!!
I’d rather catch poachers than catch fish.
Use them as bait.
Live.
And that's the same dude who would complain that there aren't any fish around anymore. Smh
Save the fish for the future!
You did the right thing. More of us "Legal law abiding fisherman" should call poachers out. Here in Northern Nevada we have stocked urban ponds to bring the fishing experience a little more accessible to Families who are not savvy enough or capable to load up and hike our Sierra-Nevada mountains. Hispanics bend the rules bring their under age Children and as the children run around not fishing the Men treat the pond like a free supermarket catching limits for each adult and each child (no license for children with adult). Problem is in reality only the Men are fishing but when fish and game show up they call the kids over to cover the massive amount of trout they are stealing. Of course their culture does not teach them to consider they are robbing others. I often have to followup on the shore and pick up the debris they leave even though their are trash cans available. No wonder Mexico looks like it does. At least that's my poaching experience here.
Wow that old man tried to keep that little tiny thing! Good job!
That was great, but extremely dangerous. Play it by ear, 1 old guy is not too worry some. Never try to be a hero when you're by yourself and there's 2 or more guys who are clearly poaching. Call fish and game, let them do their job. Sometime innocent people will accidently poach if they didn't know the limit slot, because they don't fish too much. However most people are clearly poaching, because it's so easy and tempting. Just play it by ear, don't be a hero without backup, call fish and game, and becareful. Criminals will not hesitate to hurt you, if they know you're "snitching".
thats one hefty fine alright, So is killing fish and wasting them. Eat what you kill
Way to go, helping out the rest of the fishermen, god has his eyes on you at ALL times. Play right or burn in hell
Do that everytime. Protect our fisheries. Good on you buddy.
WHEN YOU SEE A POACHER DOING THAT
BE SURE TO SNAP THERE POLE
You absolutely did the right thing. But it I was there I would have called the game warden on him instead.
I don't play let them get a ticket then they will realize how much cheaper it would be to just go and buy fish at a fish
market instead.
Aen45/Basshunter not to mention many times you will get a year or more fishing ban.

You were just salty you didn't catch anything right there.
Haahahh just Kidding bro!
nah its true salty people want to act like they do the right thing
Subscribed as soon as you confronted the guy, def appreciate seeing others who care about the regulations and fish by the rules.
Definitely did what you could, shy of calling in the fishing rangers and submitting a witnessed account. Who knows, they might have arrived in time to have issued a citation.
You saved him from a massive citation. Maybe he'll get the picture now.
My opinion is that don't take the law into your own hands, especially a guy that wasn't netting them by the hundreds. Its not ur job to make people miserable.Thats the game wardens job.
over time. he might reach the hundreds mark. In any case, any kind of poaching is a no no. There is a reason why the rules are in place.
You did the right thing. People that do this ruin it for everyone and for our future fishermen
If I am fishing and some guy in a $1000 outfit with his brand new Patagonia waders comes by and asks to see what I have caught I will only have two comments. "Are you a game warden", and if no, "can you swim"?
really? who cares if he can swim.

I highly encourage catch and release to fellow anglers. I rarely catch and cook. I also don’t keep striped bass or fluke so they can repopulate in numbers. You made the right call. DEC in New York is so bad. I’ve only seen them once in a whole year of fishing. They only checked a few guys too.
You should be a cop. You seem like you have it in ya.
I support what u did u were friendly and easy going and definitely taught that old man a lesson
Good job! What a shame He is old enough to know.
''All'' (young and old) should know, otherwise they shouldn't be fishing. maybe you should have called a GW, for your own safety, though. Someone that can so blatantly break one law, could break another! Know what I'm saying?
The fact that he was hiding them in the sand showed that he obviously knew it was wrong
gotta tell you.. some old people are just dumb as fuck
If he were that dumb, he wouldn't have hid his catch. It's a lack of respect for our laws. That is worse than being dumb!
Not sure if your joking, or not. --- Yeah when I get tired of waiting, I just go harpooning a sea lion. You outta see me at stoplight?
Not caring enough to look back, I believe I said that he should have called F&Gservicestead of putting himself in danger.
All of the responsible sportsmen buy licenses, tags, stamps. We give our state and other's, a lot of money, to do things legally, and to take care of our wild environments. All the money we spend is a collaborative effort to help our state care for and service our wildlands.
I once had an old guy ask me to give him a fish and I let him take one, then caught more for him. Be kind and considerate to everyone whois kind and considerate, however, no one is above the law, whether one is ''tired of caring or not!'' Whatever the heck that means? You are probably young, but laws are put into place, everywhere, whether you gat that or not.
Strong work brother! It's the strong who stand for what's right and you don't need anyone's approval.
You see boats dragging the ocean of fish yet there is a problem with one dude catching a feed. The double standard to me is beyond belief. An if your a native person they have the right to fish for free and catch whatever they want. A triple standard more like it.
Hope you two like the fines and the handcuffs....
You are both idiots.
Everyone follows rules for a reason. Even fishing companies. But, really, that has nothing to do with this so, youre argument is invalid.
Always the tough guy til you get confronted and then u bitch out real fast.

Dude seriously, you need to get an education.
The more you write, the more i pity you.
It's all about that $$$.
You did the right thing because if something is illegal it's illegal for a reason
In my opinion, what you did was wrong because you're not the law. It's best to call Fish and Game! Hitting poachers with a big ticket or taking their tackle will teach them a lesson.
I would done the same plus more
By the time they show up those fish are dead. Sure the guy might end up with a citation but those two fish probably wouldn't be enough alone to revoke his license. Glad he did what he did, and if more people would grow some balls and do the same poachers would fear more than the game and fish commission
That’s like saying. “ in my opinion you shouldn’t of stopped that teenager from robbing a helpless elder if you had the chance. You should have called the cops”. That is super retarted and I know if I had the chance to do that to a poacher I would.
I would be very careful about confronting a stranger like that. It’s a much more lethal world than one can imagine. All it takes is something to set a very bad event into motion.
yes poaching sux but stay in you lane you have no right to harass a fishermen it is illegal you judge this man for trying to feed his family. I know many of you catch schoolie after schoolie and throw them back forty to sixty in a night how many do you think do not survive. so its OK to catch sixty undersize fish from a school just for fun ripping the gills on a third to die but a hungry man can't keep a fish. that is why buy license and pay sport tax if you don't have a license you take a chance you will meet the warden.
Bruh are you saying that old man is poor and can’t buy food for his family. I agree that he shouldn’t of taken those fish but he could of easily walked down to the store if he wanted f****** food
Rich, I think you did the right thing standing up to people who are breaking the rules.
Respects to all the way you guys fish there. At least theres control. Some countries including mine do not have such rules. No catch limit, no size limit and no license needed. Im hoping one day all that would change so we can learn to be more responsible in saving the species. Great fishing bro.
This is a major problem in the uk with pike really sad the damage they do taking fish home
