@@vernonfrance2974 you forgot to mention that Secretariat’s two losses were , the first one was an inexperienced jockey, and the second was due to an abscess in his mouth that caused great pain to him. Jockey was changed to Ronnie Turcotte and health issue resolved . That explains his two Losses.

If Secretariat raced like that on British racetracks, he wouldn't make it home. It's completely different on flat speedy dirt tracks. He was a machine and he could handle both dirt and turf but he couldn't quicken like Frankel. Times mean very little since the horse Frankel would blitz repeatedly, Excelebration, actually ran a faster time than Frankel ever did when finishing 4th in the BC Mile.

This meant he could sit at the back of the pack dead last, for three quarters of the race, then as you call it blitz to the front of the pack and win by several lengths. Considering most of his races were 1 and 1 quarter of a mile and 9 furlongs is not as long of a race, where 8 furlongs in one mile , 9 furlongs are still be less than a mile and one quarter. The Kentucky Derby was run in this fashion and Secretariat broke the record on that race and still Holds the record fifty years later. The Belmont which was an even longer at a Mile and one half , Secretariat not only demolished that record, but won that race by 31 lengths. No horse has even come close to that in over 50 years. Frankel was a great horse, but Secretariat was in A league of his own. Even one of the most well Known fore fathers, the Mighty “Man O War “ did not match those accomplishments

NO horse, not even Frankel can run a mile at a flat out pace, they would normally sit in behind, then make their move. At 3 years he was taking on older horses, who were stronger and more matured. IMO it will be a long time before we see another like him.
