That’s the whole appeal to flying RC planes. Less cost and risk but retain most of the fun of flying full scale, if not more so. Since we get to do aerobatics, formation and dogfights, which most GA pilots don’t get to do.
The only difference is that all physics are sped up by some factor because of the smaller scale. If you slow down the footage by some amount, then it would appear to fly the same as a large plane.
Man! You guys make me feel old. The last time I flew RC was back in 1993. This is all "Star Trek" to me!! It looks sooooooo damn cool. When did all this remote camera stuff really start. I remember so very very primitive stuff at the end of the 90's, but nothing like this! Thanks for the super content!
Analog FPV remained pretty primitive until 3 years ago. Then Digital FPV brought crystal clear, noise free pictures. Which offers enough clarity to make dog fight and formation flights possible.
little History Lesson from me: First-Person-Vision (FPV) -Flight was done in the 90 too but miniature Cameras and Videotransmitters were hella expensive back then, ranging in about 2k$ for a Set. with the advent of cheap and tiny wireless Video surveillance Cameras, Keychain-cameras etc in the mid 2000 people started to hack these devices and put them on RC Planes. It was an incredible fun time until somewhere 2012 when all these Drones ruined it. But 2011 was when it all Peaked with Trappy recording and uploading his incredible Stunts and long distance or high altitude Records done by others.
FPV boomed with small drones around 2011, because frames were in carbon and so strong (still have mine of 2013 bought from a Canadian guy on RCgroups). You just had to buy lots of props since they were brittle as hell lol. Chinese competion for the real hype did the rest of lowering mass and volume of components.
Honestly, this is revolutionary. Easily the biggest jump in RC tech since proportional control hit the big time in the '70s. Cannot wait to set this up in my planes.
Beautiful landing. Amazing. More please! Notes: Wake turbulence is stronger from low-aspect ratio wing aircraft, such as that Raptor. The short wingspan allows more air to join the tip vortices at high AOA. Wake turbulence is strongest at low speed, when induced drag is highest. Go faster (if safe) for less effect. Weight affects it too, although I assume he isn't carrying excess weight for no reason.
Great insight on wake turbulence and tip vortices on interplay between aspect ratio, speed, AOA, and induced drag. So basically this flight was conducted with almost the worst conditions. I will have try this again with higher speeds for comparison. I suppose with high aspect wings, low wing loading on bipes, and most likely engine going wide open, WW 1 planes in dogfight Would be at the opposite end of the spectrum for effect of wake turbulence. So the adage should hold true! Thank you for the great lesson! I really appreciate it🙏😁. Now I need to try and find a WWI model.
