Hey Austin, could you please review the Bigsby Vibramate? It's supposed to allow you to fit a Bigsby to your Les Paul (for example) without drilling extra holes and then uninstall it and leave no marks . Any chance ? Cheers from here 🇬🇧👍
I really appreciate all the effort that goes into these videos, from the upload consistency to the detail you put into the description. I would imagine that recording, editing and polishing videos like these is hard, especially as often as you upload. Great content, you’re my favorite guitar channel on youtube! Keep it up! 🤘
I get this is a year old. That being said. I had 1 for a few months and sadly traded it in. This is one of the few guitars I regret parting with. Here I am a year later and looking at them again.
I COULDN'T agree with you more! Always been a Gibson guy, but they definitely made that hard for far too long. And I've aquired many GREAT Epi's during those hard times.👍👍🤘🤘
They always made guitars that people want, it's just that the purists have to make a problem out of everything new. Small example, the E-Tune..... I hated it. There were always options without it, and if not you could always install regular tuners. Gibson tried something and failed.
@@telorum1970 Yes if you dont mind rewiring an Epiphone, they are great buys. I LOVE the 339 p90 pro in pelham. God it is nice, for any price and 400 is nice
It's still kinda weird for the Standard range, but whatever. I kinda wish they made the Standard what the Traditional is, and call this current Standard range the Les Paul Modern or something like that.
IT sounds ok, but it's almost 8 pounds. I have a Schecter like this and it barely weighs 4 and it has mass sustain. Sounds just like it. I LOVE P90s! and that finish though, is badass. very nice. Godin makes a specialize this that is gorgeous in a few finishes also
Brett Huhn curious what schecter electric you have that is only 4 lbs. I think even my skinny Gibson SG is at least 7lbs. I tried finding a schecter with p90 and found the solo II model, which has the LP body style. I checked sweetwater website for this guitar since they list the weight and it’s exactly 8lbs...
There is also a humbucker equipped version of this same guitar. Comes with the Burstbucker 2 in the Neck and Burstbucker 3 in the bridge. I picked one up on sale for $799. Great sounding and playing guitar for the money.
I played one of these at GC a couple months ago. Nice Les Paul, thumbs up when Gibson gets it right, but for the price it should come with a factory hard case.
@Jasper102211 I'd rather have it without the binding. I may get one of these to go with my two flame tops. They got another one at GC that I have'nt played yet. They sold the other one.
I can't believe a Fine real Gibson like this comes in a Gig bag WTF they have been doing this ever since Henry has been screwing up Gibson. But this guitar is bringing the awseome Gibson quality back, just like the new Firebird with 1 pickup in natural wood finish,
Trippy coincidence, I just played one of those at my local GC less than an hour ago. There were two, a cherry one and a honey-burst. I didn't see much 'burst', frankly speaking, but they were both really good. The honey was the better of the two. Interestingly enough, when I asked the sales person about them, he said that he "...couldn't _give_ them away.." Smh, if I'd had the cash, I'd have brought that little "honey" home!
Don't understand why the salesperson said that - the new 2019 budget Gibsons are very good... while not spot on replicas they are way, way better than what had been offered in previous years. I may get the LP Junior Single Cut 2019 or an SG Junior 2019 P90. Has to be P90s for me.
I got the humbuckers version of this same guitar with Burstbucker 2 neck and 3 bridge for the absurd new price of $799 from GC incl. padded gig bag. One of the nicest guitars I own and sounds like any traditional Les Paul. Great USA made guitar - amazing!
I love when you do your own demos! I like Mike and his playing style but, You play well yourself and you always play really good tunes! Thanks for being the best guitar reviewer on RUclips!
Just give customers a hard case please. That's a nice gig bag but not all but most folks would appreciate a hard case. Gibson charges enough for their guitars as it is
I agree, 2015 was a bad year for Gibson due to the robo tuners and all the other bizarre features. I've noticed a two to three hundred dollar a year price increase since then. The consumer has paid enough for Gibsons financial blunder, now it's time to bring their prices back down to reality. This is a student model Les Paul and for a $1000.00 price tag, it should come with a factory hard case
I got a good hard case from Thoman in Germany at a very reasonable price, I am in the UK of course (at the moment!) so I don't know the cost and possibility of shipping to the USA.
Great video mate! Been watching your channel for a while and it was hearing these p90 Gibson videos that made be finally go for it and but my first Gibson. Got the Les Paul Junior DC 2019 model in cherry and it's amazing! Keep up the great work! :)

⚠️ Here's an interesting note someone might appreciate. I just (3/1/2020) went down to my local GC because they had both this GC edition and the $1599 Original Special (TV Yellow) in stock. The moment I put my hands on the Honey Burst GC Special it just felt....lesser. And more than $400 or $500 lesser compared to the Original. The Original, on the other hand, felt like a VALUE at $1599. Apart from the general "feel" of the GC model, one thing to check out if you're looking for one is this: when I moved any of the four knobs side to side a little, ALL of the knobs moved side to side with it. First, at that price the knobs shouldn't be moving at all really. Second, the Originals knobs were firm as can be. Little things like that are what people refer to when they say they have a problem with the "cheaper" Gibsons. I totally get. Our GC had three of the Honey Burst and I left desperately wanting the Original (despite LOVING the Honey Burst finish). 😃
Great demo! Hey, you’re a LOT better player than many of the guys doing demos out there. I have this exact guitar. Love it. The P90’s sound incredible through a good tube amp. Crunchy and growling. Cleans are great too. Neck is a little chunky but not a deal breaker. It’s beautiful too. I enjoyed your review.
Had two idiots break into my house while we were all at work. I had all the serial numbers and some really good cops, who busted butt to track them down. Found my guitars in a pawn shop. One guy got four years in prison. The other got seven. SERIAL NUMBERS and PICTURES With Descriptions or video, people. And stay home with a shotgun, like I do now ... 'course I AM retired ...
Distorted with both pups is best for general rock playing. Work the knobs a bit and------ yeah-Hess.! Edit added. I love no binding and dot necks. It locks let's me assume the money went into playability and not binding that makes your luthier spend time not effing said binding up. He can concentrate playability and pickup balance.
Got this new for 800 on sale. Came with a nice padded gig bag too. Very happy with this guitar! P90s sound amazing and the volume knob cleans up so good! Thanks for this vid for helping to inform me first. Great channel!
I bought one of these new at GC in black with humbuckers for $499 on a special they were running about 20 years ago. Wish I still had it. Great guitar.
Got one of these a few weeks ago - a bit scuffed and nicked - but I really like this guitar - and really like the feel (and smell) of nitro lacquer finish. Solid well made guitar. Good price - A tad below $800 before tax. Frets feel good neck and smooth and not rough. Came with a soft gig bag - I like gig bag as I don't travel much with it. It's light but padded. I can live with the hum - combined with my tube amp. This review is a good one.
I do love p90s on les paul , sg specials more. but i do trust ur opinion you buy, sell and play so many and ur very knowledgeable about the brand in general ... so thanks
I recently bought a 2018 Firebird Studio at an even better price than this LP and it also had P90s. It was my first experience with those pickups and I love them! To me, it's the best of both worlds. You can get great single coil clarity clean and an angry humbucker type sound dirty. I wish I'd played them years ago.
I should have listened to my old friend (I'm 51 so he's really old, kids). He told me to buy a special back when they were about a grand. He has one that he still gigs every weekend. It's all original and worth about $6k now.
Kinda cool looking piece of gear. Not a lover of the P90 tones but hey it’s a Gibson so it’s a winner for me. The cost to get one in Australia will be a killer so great that you did review for us to watch. Cheers
I can't get enough of the p90 tones. I've discovered in recent months that les Pauls with p90s, or any mahogany guitar with p90s, actually sound better for classic Rock and early metal than humbuckers. I used to not understand the point of p90s but now I do. They can do distorted and clean very well, there's no more versatile pickup. I love them
I found this used at a local Guitar center for $999, it had some wear issue on the back which helped drop the price. I didn't have the money for it at the time. I'd freaking love to find one ever since I saw Bob Marley used this as his main guitar. I just think it's so cool! I hope to find one again some day and I'm able to buy it! Thanks for the great vid..
That's beautiful and sounds awesome. Thanks for the heads up. I can see one of these in my future. I agree with a post below, should be a regular item.
I walked in Guitar Center to buy strings and bought one of these. I usually buy all my guitars on line - but at $999 I could not let it pass. I am currently gigging with it, in place of my 98 PRS CU24.
This has become my #1 guitar, passing my LP Traditional and several Fenders. Mine is two-piece as well, but the match is so good that it looks like one piece.
I've been wanting an old school style jr or special. Unfortunately where I live in Australia I can't try any of these out (or they are not even available), so I went with a Heritage H-137 with the lollar p90s. Hope it is good. Props for the priest.
Trogly, thanks for this awesome in-depth review! I knew my local Guitar Center had one of these in stock and your review led me to want to check it out. Now, I’m the proud owner of the same model! It’s even nicer in person. I snagged a lightweight 7.2 lb one, and it was on sale for $799! 🙌
Partially on the strength of this video I bought one of these. It did not disappoint. Super cool guitar. I hate wraparound bridges, so this was right on the money for me. If only they made it with a 60's neck profile and TV Yellow finish ....
Man, I'm impressed not only with that surprisingly beautiful budget Les Paul -my favorite guitar and body shspe- but the detailed video and review. I may buy one once I come across it. I recently bought a demo (3) P90 Gibson Gary Clark Jr. Signature SG at a great price, in mint condition from Sweetwater and I'm in love it with. The P90s are simply amazing and they just sizzle when over driven. The middle pickup helps to lessen the 60 cycle hum. Thanks for the review.
My Son just ordered me a Gibson Les Paul Tribute today, and at $1,199.00 they could throw-in a hard case. Im getting the same bag, and will be spending another $200 on a proper case for my baby. Thx for explaining the serial # I know theres not 900 days in a year
Did hear some ghost in the playing demo ? If not, im crazy. The ozzy was awsome though. So glade your doing the playing demos. Sure seems like you get into it alot more. Dont sell yourself short. You rock man. Maybe youll find yourself on stage one day !!!
Had this guitar for 1 1/2 mos.......the finish started bubbling up around the fingerboard. After a week or 2 more it started peeling and lifting up in sheets. Brought it back to Guitar Center and got a Las Paul Junior instead.
My two favorite Gibson electric guitars are a 1999 (P-90) and 2000 (humbuckers) models, which I got used for well under $1,000 (the 2000 was only $550 w/hardshell on eBay!). If you want a real Gibson with nitro laquer finish, these babies will satisfy your soul. I prefer an all mahogany body over a maple cap, as many guitars players much better than me do (Phil X, Jared James Nichols, Les Paul, etc.). Mahogany is such a mellow sounding tone wood, which I prefer on electric and acoustic guitars. I still want an SG Special w/P-90's and SG w/humbuckers, because they have a slightly different sound and feel. I highly recommend Les Paul Specials, which are a great deal.......! EDIT: I forgot to add that besides a mini-humbucker, Firebird pickups fit that route too, for a more biting tone on the bridge pickup, without the hum.
It's all about the bridge pickup isn't it? I can see why they came out with Especial Junior pretty quickly. By the way in 1970 I had a 62 Gibson Melody Maker with one P90. Unhappy ending. good video thank you
I went and tried one of these out because of your review and ended up buying it. It was the only one they had at GC and I got it on sale for $799.00. The wood grain is beautiful. So the first few hours I had it, I had it on a stand in between playing it. I've kept another nitro finished guitar on the same stand for years and it never reacted to the foam rubber. But I wanted to be extra careful with my new guitar so I used the Gibson black polish cloth that came with the guitar to cover the neck support and I couldn't believe it but the cloth left two little stand rash type marks where it made contact with the neck. I used an old polish cloth to cover the base and had no problem. Now I use the same type of cloth at the neck and have had no other problems. I'm just wondering if you or anybody else has had the same type of experience. Sorry to go on so long but I wanted to cover all the details.
I know you posted this 4 years ago, but your comment raises an important point: many foam-backed guitar stands and holders are made with chemicals that gas off (evaporate). As a gas, the chemical easily penetrates cloth and damages lacquer finishes. I've read of stands that do this even when advertised as NOT doing this. I just keep guitars in their case so I don't have to deal with it.
I love it ! Probably not such a bargain if buying from here 🇬🇧, but it's a wicked guitar. If I owned one ,I would put a mini humbucker in the bridge & a "staple" single coil at the neck and a Bigsby .
These are awesome guitars. I’ve not played a bad one, and I’ve played four or five of them at various GCs. Pricing is great, too! If only those SG Specials were closer to the $1K mark! (BTW: Great job on Skyhunter!)
I did buy one of these last week on sale at GC for 799 so I think I got a great deal but it did not come with that nice gig bag. Instead it was a canvas foam lined that seemed too small for the guitar. On mine it says Special on the truss rod cover as opposed to "model" on this one. Whatever.. The guitar is a keeper!
Bought one of the first ones a few months ago. Incredible guitar, the playability is phenomenal and the tone has that P90 growl that sounds amazing. My other Gibsons haven’t seen much play time since I got it. Great review!
That's really a Les Paul Jr./special, the combo of both. But Gibson is just calling it a regular special because so many get confused on the cross between a Jr and a special, (other than 2 pickups or one, and a tune-o-matic or a wrap around,, and the pickguard being different than a regular special),,,,which made one really sweet design. They usually do a short run on them about every 10 years. The collectors snatch them up fast, so it make s them kind of rare in a way. but this time it looks like Gibson is making a boat load of them if the serial #'s are true.
The cutaway part where it meets the guitar neck I thought with Les Paul Specials there is a thine ridge there and not flush up against the neck ? Pretty guitar
At $999 new, as far as a brand new Gibson goes, there are nearly a steal!

I like the knobs better than the ones in the other models that's why i am getting this guitar.
I'm more of a fender gretsch guy. But I have to admit, I like the understated good looks of this guitar. Kind of makes me want to check one out.
I’ve been on the fence on one of these! Thanks so much for the video!
I do love p90s on les paul , sg specials more. but i do trust ur opinion you buy, sell and play so many and ur very knowledgeable about the brand in general ... so thanks
Yep. It's beautiful, and it sounds great. Thanks for reviewing it.
If the 2019 models had neck binding and mother of pearl logo, I'd be buying one tomorrow...
I love them
Just bought one used on Reverb they are awesome and play great!
Beautiful finish & wood in that guitar. Agreed: a fabulous value that Gibson LP Special lovers should snap up quickly. Wow. P90 heaven.
Thanks buddy... After much consternation and research your video decided me to order one ⚡
Got one yesterday, a true player! Sounds best w/ a medium gain amp, not fuzzy, but well defined. Rock on...
Thanks Trog. Great review. I love this guitar bc of the P90's and the simplicity of the guitar.
My wife bought me a 2019 Gibson Les Paul Tribute in honey burst for Christmas. It is a honey for sure.
Been looking at p-90 goldtops but this seems like a steal...so it should be here monday with a beetronix swarm.
Partially on the strength of this video I bought one of these. It did not disappoint. Super cool guitar. I hate wraparound bridges, so this was right on the money for me. If only they made it with a 60's neck profile and TV Yellow finish ....
The clean tone on the neck pickup is Beautiful.
Whoa! You played the breakup song at 10:02! Awesome
Incredibly thorough and stimulating ! Love your informative insight. Thank you
Man, I'm impressed not only with that surprisingly beautiful budget Les Paul -my favorite guitar and body shspe- but the detailed video and review.
Thx for explaining the serial # I know theres not 900 days in a year
That thing sounds AMAZING with the drive on it. I love P90's!!
There was a version of LP where coil tapping gave a P90 esque sound than single coil, I forgot the model but I really liked the concept of it
I have a 2003 that looks close to this. Put a Bigsby on it and good to go. It's really loud and full unplugged. Perfect companion for my Standard.
Thanks for a great, interesting review. i hope Gibson survives and continues making great guitars!
Man, that looks good with that gloss.
I dig it.I dig the finish,the double p90's,the rw neck,it all looks like a nice total package.sounds sweet also.👍
Awesome, I love to hear one with mini's in it.
It's all about the bridge pickup isn't it? I can see why they came out with Especial Junior pretty quickly. By the way in 1970 I had a 62 Gibson Melody Maker with one P90. Unhappy ending. good video thank you
Not a huge humbucker fan but p90 les Pauls are insane
Les Paul specials are my fav guitar and I have a lot of guitars of all kinds.
I think with it saying Model, not Special on the headstock, and no binding that this is a Special Tribute. I could be wrong.
I love it ! Probably not such a bargain if buying from here 🇬🇧, but it's a wicked guitar. If I owned one ,I would put a mini humbucker in the bridge & a "staple" single coil at the neck and a Bigsby .
I love this guitar! It's beautiful and it sounds great!
I think the only thing I'd swap out are the tuners. Maybe trade them out for some locking units. Just my opinion.
These are awesome guitars. I’ve not played a bad one, and I’ve played four or five of them at various GCs. Pricing is great, too! If only those SG Specials were closer to the $1K mark!
(BTW: Great job on Skyhunter!)
If you roll the tone back a little, you can get those P90s to sound like a Strat. It's crazy to hear coming out of an LP or SG.
I bought mine last weekend as well! Same price and same case as you. When I watched the video I was like Hey! Wish it came with that case.
I haven't heard that Greg Kihn , the break up song riff in years dude..that brings back some memories for sure...Nice one !
Really great informational demo/review. What amp are you using?
Hey Hey!! Trogly! I saw these and I got both of them, Buckeres and P-90. I am a big P90 guy anyway. I also bought the LP Double -cut.
Excellent review subscribed and shared very in-depth review thank you I'm looking forward to more.
Wow that bridge driven tone 😳
Nobody seems to make pickups (including Gibson) with quick connect couplings? Nice idea but no way to take advantage of it.
Looks nicer than the new 2020 Tribute Special model in matt finish.
Nice vintage sound! Gibson Rules! ✨😈✨
Sometimes they rule
You should do the 2 Jimmy Page Telecasters, the mirror and the dragon.
I’d really like to see you do a review of the new 2019 Gibson Es-335 dot. I think that would be pretty cool
Beautiful Guitar, i want one, And your Chops are spot on Brother..great review..Love your channel..thanks
I think Guitar Center has this same model with a full sized humbucker configuration too.
The cutaway part where it meets the guitar neck I thought with Les Paul Specials there is a thine ridge there and not flush up against the neck ? Pretty guitar
