I'm not as old as Lawrence, but I've quit doing much tire work. I used to do everything. It's not worth it anymore. You will be money ahead paying someone to change the tire. When a crop is ready, I'll gladly pay a tire service to do the work. You can lose more value in the crop than the money you save trying to do it yourself, not to mention getting hurt doing it. You will also be money ahead replacing the rim with a good used one or new one. Once they start cracking, they won't stop. The metal fatigue is there. It will let you down again, when you need it most.

Totally agree. I would even suggest they find a mechanic who will come out 1 day a week all year to do maintenance --- required necessary work and if none, preventive maintenance. Of course, that would eliminate lots of video drama, but from a farming / business sense, it makes sense & cents ... and dollars.
p.s. maybe time too, to get a few dogs fixed, just an opinion.

Lawrence, when it comes to tractor tires, bite the bullet and have the tire shop come out to remove the tire. The money is well spent because it saves time, it's safer and it keeps you from beating the tire with your head! Like Kenny Rogers said, you gotta know when to holder and when to fold'em! If farming was easy, anybody could do it.

Lawrence, I take my hat off to you. You are one of the few men that doesn't know what quit is as for your family and farm. I'm 66 now and I have gotten to leave the bigger jobs for the professionals. That way I or someone else doesn't get hurt. I also know that you are teaching Wesley the way to operate a business at the same time by doing and fixing what needs to be fixed without depending on someone else to show you 2 or 3 days late. Just be safe and careful. No need to be in a hurry, because when you get in a hurry bad thing could happen. When I get frustrated I stop, sit down and have a Big glass of tea. Be safe and healthy.

There is a song "Daddy won't sell the farm" and neither will Lawrence. He is just tired and frustrated. If it is rear tires I hire it done no matter what the cost. You have to have the right tools to dismount and mount tractor tires and the strength to do it. It is dangerous too. He is like me in the respect that we aren't spring chickens anymore. I am having two rear tractor tires replaced next week. In times past I would have done it but no more. A lot easier to write that check. Not everyday you see a brother and sister go off fishing together. I saw Wes put his gun in the truck with them. I used to do it too but times are so different now. You and Lawrence have raised two responsible young people. They aren't kids anymore. Be proud of your accomplishments in raising those two. Don't take it for granted. Be very proud...

I thought my comments might be out-of-line, but after posting responses to 2, I read all the rest. They confirm my hopefully positive comment: I hear in Meredith's words, and her facial expressions, and tone of voice, the continual frustration with the repair and maintenance of their equipment. The consensus re the tire was to hire a mobile tire guy. Agree.
But, imho, "the farm" business needs to find a person to visit their farm once a week and do repairs and preventive maintenance and clean up "the shop" area. It seems to be a needed "expense" of "the farm."
I am 85. Retired 27 years. I am well-off, but not rich. We hire several different people to help us maintain our residence. Lawn cutter. Garden handiman. Neighborhood retired furnace friend. Neighborhood electrician. Neighborhood skilled all tasks handyman.

Same with Wesley ... specialize in the job you like the most that earns you the most money, and pay someone to do the jobs that people get paid less to do. If farming makes $40/hr and mechanic makes $35/hr, the farmer loses $5/hr each hour he works as a mechanic. Me? 85 yrs young; retired 27 yrs. Wealthy by following my own advice. Thank you.

Gempler's sells a really neat tool to break down large tires. I'm sure there's other places to buy them too. Or if you're too cheap to spend that much money like me you can make one after that principle. If I were making it again I would use 7/8 fine thread grade 8 threaded rod. I used a piece of bush hog blade that was broken for the clamp and bit/ push foot. After you use one of these tools you'll never want to break down a farm tire any other way!

I have tried to work on tires and it is very frustrating because it doesn't always work. Maybe the next time it will work. But always be careful..

I love puppies, hopefully her brother didn't get again.
I understand the frustration of thing's seemingly always going wrong. We've had vehicle after vehicle after vehicle break down, 1 had tire issues, our main lawnmowers all were going flat, 1 like 2 mins after being aired up & then we ended up with bully's for neighbors that caused irrigation issue's that caused us not to be able to water most of our property, we have no grass. I've been ready to sell off livestock & move to town (I hate living in the city/town).
As everyone has said take step back & breathe, then have someone else fix the tire.
You guy's are awesome. Prayers are on the wind that it'll get better again soon 🙏 😊❤

Do the tire shops in your area have mobile service trucks that can do farm calls?
We do in our area, they charge mileage and an hourly rate but no stress for me.

I've learned the had way, take the tire off and take it to someone who has the equipment to break it down and fix it. I've been there and done it. Like the old song, no when to holden and know when to foldem. Kenny Roger's

Sometimes you have to take time to catch your breath whether you have been at it for 5 years or 50. When ya got to you'll know it.

Merideth,,,,,,,,I was in the tire repair bussiness for 30 years. Unless you are a large farmer with the right tools, you are better off to go to the repair shop and don,t waste time trying to fix it yourself. You do need the right tools to get the tire off the rim. It is very easy when you have them, and if you don,t,you can spend alot of time trying to get the tire off. Please do not get stressed out of a very simple task like that. Take it to the people that can do this with the right equipment.Oh ya,,,I do watch you all the time on you tube and facebook. Tell Lawrence that there are some things that other people can do better. He does good but some things are better if you go to the prrofessionals. LESS STRESSFUL ON YOU. Advice from an old man that has been there. good luck to you and the family and God Bless.... Rich,....

Tires can be most frustrating. I work at a dealership and call the pros. Cheaper and faster. Really hard to deal with unless you have the right tools.
