KitchenAid Ice Maker Model KUIX535HPS00 (Purchased in 2022)
This short video shows step-by-step instructions how to diagnose and replace the ice bin thermistor on a KitchenAid under the counter ice maker machine that was purchased in 2022 model number KUIX535HPS00.
Please note the above parts can be used for many different types of ice makers, not just KitchenAid. See below for a full list of supported ice makers and also check your own ice maker instruction manuals.
The reason why I’m replacing the thermistor is because I noticed our ice maker was making ice constantly and was always extremely full of ice even though the “max ice” button was not turned on. When the ice maker never stops making ice, there is a great chance your thermistor has gone bad and needs to be replaced.
The reason for this is the thermistor detects the temperature and is supposed to tell the ice maker to stop producing ice when enough ice has stacked up near the thermistor. When the thermistor goes bad and stops detecting the temperature correctly, it never notifies the ice maker to stop producing ice. An over producing ice maker can cause all kinds of problems such as floods or broken ice maker parts.
Another tip is to make sure your thermistor isn't blocked by something like the ice scooper. If something is blocking the thermistor it won't detect the temperature correctly and the ice machine will keep making ice.
If you like saving money, DIY (do it yourself) replacing your own thermistor can save you around $150-200 dollars depending on how much a repair company charges for house visit repairs.
I have also heard the thermistor called a bin thermostat.
