This is really awesome! Congrats~ I started ballet when I was 15 years old and became a professional ballet dancer at 21. After I retired, I became a ballet teacher and directed four different ballet schools. I am still teaching at 61 years old and will never regret my decision. Ballet is my life :)
Hi I'm 16 and have being doing hip hop dancing for 9 years but it doesn't really Involve flexibility, I want to start doing different types of dancing ballet being one, do you think I'll be able to do it, I'm not very flexible please reply!
I know you posted this comment a while ago, but I have a few questions and I’d love to hear your opinions. So I’m 18 and in my first year of college. I’ve danced for 16 years and am ok, but ballet is not my strong suit at all. I’m in the process of loosing weight and I am planning to get into classes again. Do you think auditioning for companies at 20-22 will nearly eliminate me from getting in. I did nutcracker for 7 years with my studio and went to high school for dance (I danced around 20 hours a week during high school). I’d love to hear what you have to say because the ballet world has only gotten more competitive over the years.
Heyy! I'm 15 and not really flexible can I make it as a professional dancer when I try my best and work hard? I really wanna do ballet but they think i can't because i'm kinda overweight for my age and height but i'm slowly losing weight
UPDATE: I commented last year about how I started ballet at the age of 18, and last year (age 20) I was a trainee with a professional company in Chicago. So so so excited to say I have been contracted with a professional company in Wisconsin!!!!!!! My professional contract starts this August and I am over the moon. It IS possible!! Extremely difficult, but possible! I will be 22 next month.
Courtne Joy woah! Congratulations! I also started taking ballet classes at 18! Unfortunately, I stopped for a year :< It is very hard to find a ballet school that teach adult ballet here in the Philippines, especially when you’re living in a province. But upon watching this video and reading your comment, I realized I shouldn’t down grade myself for starting late at ballet. I always do the exercises and stretches that I was taught during the first months in my ballet class.
***** Great question! I'm not gonna lie, it is VERY difficult. I dance from 9am-6:30pm every day and the studio is a 30 mn drive. Some girls work coffee shop jobs in the morning, and I teach dance at local studio. And most everyone in these types of programs have parents that help pay tuition/living expenses just like if their child was in college (trainee age is that of a young college student). My parents are able to help a little, but I'm mostly on my own. Eventually, trainees usually become a professional (may or may not be in the company they are a trainee with), so in the end it all pays off because the dream becomes reality.
"I've never heard about any girl start after age 13 or 14 who has really made it as a professional ballerina." trust me. after this video, you've inspired so many people. you dont always hear about it, but i think you and alot of others who follow in your footsteps will find that talent can bring you anywhere at any age.
@@dogloverxox9125 So did I, so I didn't try, and now I am 21 and regret it. I hope you went for it. :) I did ballet when I was 5,6, and 9, but I stuck mostly to gymnastics and did cheerleading instead when I reached middle school and high school.
I'm 17 and I've always wanted to dance but my parents couldn't afford the classes and training now that we can afford it I feel like it's too late, but this has really inspired me and made me think I can actually do this and fulfill a childhood dream of mine.
katie harvey yeah true but I know it won't be easy. Even if you start early. I'm not looking for easy just looking for possible, with enough work anything is possible. I just needed the boost of motivation and inspiration.
Tiffany I always wanted to be a ballerina just like you and I was always told thats its too late for me to start Im almost seventeen and I just started ballet classes and to be honest nothing felt as good as this in my life. I dont know if I will be able to make my dream come true but I will fo everything I can from now on and I advise you to do the same.
I’m 18 (turned in December last year) and I asked my mom for dance classes in the summer before my sophomore year and it turned out to be too expensive, I now am going to my first hip hop dance class tomorrow! Luckily it’s free because it is new and they’re looking for students so I finally get to start! I really want to be a dancer in general and I really look up to Jade C. And many more dancers! I feel sad that I’m late but I start my journey tomorrow and I’m going to be practicing hard and taking up new things to get up to level and be able to dance with many dancers that I look up to!
A Fangirls Sobs same i am soo scared to start anything thing because of the fear i would suck at it. there us so much i am interested in but i have been holding myself back for too long. partially also because people have told me it is practically impossible to pursue all my passions at once especially with studies, but i was never convinced to give them up. i really really needed some motivation and just someone to prove it is possible
I’m 11 and I’m going to start when lockdown allows me, and this video made me realise that I have plenty of time to train to be professional! I had been distressed about it before, thinking I was a late dancer, but I’m so so so happy as I know that’s not true!!
I started ballet at 19 (in 2006), a few months after turning 20. Everyone, both teachers and friends told me to dedicate myself to something else, to study a career at the university because I would never become a professional dancer. They were right, I was not talented, I was discordid, I had little flexibility and I didn't have the support of my family. It was definitely not going to be successful. But I loved it so much (and I still love it) and was willing to do whatever it took to make up for my lack of talent. I knew I was not going to be the best dancer, but I was confident that at least I was going to do it professionally. And so it was, 7 years later (2013) I got my first contract in a professional company. I continue to dance professionally to this day and I still want to do it for many more years. I am not a virtuous dancer, I'm still not so flexible and still discord. But when I go on stage I steal the attention of even the talented, the virtuous, and the flexible. How? On the reverse of becoming obsessed with what I did not have, I worked on my strengths, which are the partnering technique, interpretation and stage presence, I'm not the best in my company nor do I pretend to be, I already got what I wanted, to dance professionally, and I will continue working to be a better professional every day. Anyone can achieve anything they set out to do, it is enough to want and be willing to fight until the last consequence. When I was a ballet student, I didn't even have enough to eat, I lived in favor in the dance studios where I studied and at night I went out to ask for food on the street. I knew it was temporary, I never gave up, I paid the price and got what I wanted.
I started dancing also at 17 :) I worked so hard to get where i am now and next year (I'll be 22) I'll start doing different auditions ! I won in June a scholarship for summer 2015 to dance in Paris ! It is possible if you commit your mind to it and work hard and even harder than those that have been dancing their whole life !
omg I was just so depressed because I'm 15 and I'm discovered baller this years and that just blows my mind and I just thought that I want to do this for the rest of my life and become a pro but EVERYBODY is that saying that this is IMPOSSIBLE and I was so sad but now that I know your story I feel really inspired thank you so much I cried a lot ;-;
Omg guys A miracle happend I spend the last year practicing so hard Everyday And this month I did the test for enter in the intermediary class And I just passed !! So basically if everything goes well I will graduate in classical ballet next year I just can't believe it 🙌🙌
laura dutra oh my gooooddd im so happy for you !!! How did you do that, what did you do at home ? How old are you ? I'm impressed!! I would love to do that...
i am almost crying because of this coments, us as dancers who started “late” usually feel so alone and hopeless because it isn’t the kind of story you usually see... i am so glad i have found people with the same path as I... thank you, you have no idea how much this helped me
I believe you will find in smaller regional companies there are many professional dancers who started late. I started training at 17, got into a great training program and went on to dance professionally for over 15 years. I retired at 42 and still perform whenever I can. There were at least two other female dancers in the company who had similar backgrounds as myself and several of the men started later in life.
I am so glad I saw this. I just got accepted in the summer program for central Pennsylvania and I'm 21 years old. just a thought that I could be accepted into their pre professional program and possibly make it somewhere is amazing. therefore I am rooting for you and very excited with both of our success. PS I started ballet when I was 20 lol
+Calvionne Schmidt I was also just accepted to the program and will be attending. I'm 18 (i'll be 19 this summer) and I started at 17. Glad to know I won't be the only adult beginner!
+Hannah Jacobs (hej97) I actually won't be going this summer but my money is credited for next summer😔 it unfortunately cost a lot more to get there than to attend so I have to wait
Thank you for posting this testimonial. Not every girl has rich parents who can pay for top studio from age two. What Misty Copeland and this beautiful young woman teach us is that it is possible with the right training! The ballet world is changing for the better and this is an example of it. Great inspiration! Returning to the original video, people need to hear the truth, which at times hurts! Without the truth people can't make informed decisions! The ballet world has literally shot itself in the foot by being elitist, sexist, racist and misogynist! They are losing their audience and funding because they hold on to tradition above all else. It's sad because a whole generation of dancers have been lost. Therefore spread these stories so the people will know that they have a place in ballet.
I started ballet at 12 and am now 13, im now attending a month long summer intensive, and am on pointe after only 6 months. I am so proud of myself for finding my passion!
hey- u have one of those ballet tiktok’s right? i know this sounds kinda weird and sorta stalker-ish but i just saw a ballet tiktoker named sloane who started ballet at 12-
God Bless you!!! I wish I would've seen this when I was 16! That's when I started. But I had other things against me. I'm now 43 and going to get back into class again; The beginning. KEEP GOING!!!! Your youth goes by SO fast. If you love it, Do it. You won't regret it!
this is really encouraging to read. I'm 20 and I live In a country where ballet is not the ''national'' dance, and it doesn't provide any future for ballerinas, so it was kind of not possible to think about it when i was young, but it's like something that I really love and I can't ignore it. I know it's almost ridiculous but I want to do it, and I will hopefully 💜💜 I'm not even trying to be a professional, I just want to dance and pretend that I actually dance ballet, and for everyone having the same dream, never surrender 💪
Thank you so much for the encouragement I am 12 and very inspired by dance but my mum and family say I am too old to start. Now I am tpgoing to try and convince her than you so much
I love this! I have recently started ballet as well, just before I turned 16; so about 3 months now. I have about 15.5 hours a week, not including at-home stretching, breaks, or anything. I take different levels as well; pre prep, prep 1, prep 2, 1st and 2nd grade. I watch the 3rd-7th graders' classes. I love ballet, and modern dance as well. It's so beautiful, and due to my lack of English vocabulary, (I grew up speaking two languages, so I speak 50% turkish and 50% english.) so its hard for me to express myself... but when I dance, thats a different story. I have many ballets I would love to have a principal role in, such as Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, and Swan Lake, but its hard since I did start so late. Everything about my life has turned into ballet; I even want to start my own channel (probably won't, maybe in the future though), as ballet just inspires me and ballet has an effect on everything you do in life. Your diet, the way you carry yourself, your gracefulness, your cleanliness... Everything. I'm sure no one wants to read this much about what someone who hasn't even gotten that far yet in ballet, but there have been multiple teachers/fellow students/parents of other students that they thought that I had been doing ballet for years, since I was very young. I consider this an achievement, considering my age and my experience. Anyway, I hope whoever's reading this has a great day!~
I am about your age and wanting to start ballet. Are you actually in classes with 1st and 2nd graders or just taking classes at that level? I'm a little bit nervous about being in such young age classes.
I really want to start ballet. But I am really nervous about it. My mom used to try to make me start ballet but I never showed interest in it. Now I am 15 and I live in Turkey. In Turkey it is really hard for you to become professional even if you start when you're really young. You said you speak Turkish. Are you from Turkey or do you live there?
I'm 14 and starting ballet in a week. Since I was young I wanted to do ballet but I never had the opportunity. This really gave me motivation because I'm scared of being in a class with so many experienced girls that have a lifelong experience of dance. But I'm really excited to try it out. ❤️❤️❤️
Im 14, And starting ballet in a month. I wrnt to ballet when I In as like 3-5 years, But I stopped because of some stupid reason, And ive gained so much confidence and Yes, I may be overweight, But yk what? If somebody loves ballet it doesnt matter if theyre fat, old or ugly, If you love ballet then youre always perfect!
I can relate... it IS really scary! even more if you are insecure (like me, I'm super insecure) but push through it and know you have people that got your back! I started at 12 but I was in a really bad situation where I couldn't speak the language the classes were taught in and the language the students spoke in because I was living in another country and I was so scared they were judging me behind my back, but knowing that if you work hard and have a strong and clear mindset, you can improve!! Can you please update on your situation right now? Thanks and good luck! :D
I’m 23 and just started takin classes 3x a week, my teacher keeps telling me she’s impressed with me and how intuitive I am, she thought I had danced before. I know it’s too late to become a professional but I’m hoping next summer I can take classes in Chicago since I have family there.
This is truly amazing!!!! Im 15 years old and i want to dance for a prestige ballet company, because of you.. There is atleast 50% more determination in all of us! Thank You
I started ballet when I was thirteen and i was put in a class with eleven year olds (not that bad i know) but the others were flexible af, and could do tricks that were practically impossible for me, but my ballet teacher still let me go en pointe with them the same year! :D
Wow it all moved so fast! Congratulations! I started dancing at 19, earlier this year at 21 (I'm 22 now) I auditioned for full time training and got a waiting list place and an invitation to audition next year if a place didn't open up, which sadly and predictably it didn't. Maybe it helps that I look 16!
@@pancakeart5747 hi! I'm 25 now & I don't dance ballet professionally but I do other styles, & I perform the nutcracker on pointe every year with my home studio now :) took me about a year or two to get my pointe shoes!
Thank you all for the amazing comments! Also you should follow my instagram (That's where I post the most often) its @alexandrabailerina! P.S. I went to an arts school (I was a film major) for the first two years of high school, so that's why there are short student films on my youtube :)
I have a question for you. I'm 16 years old and I started ballet in September, this year. I was put in the teen ballet class for people with 2+ years of experience, even though I had none, because they thought I could handle it and liked my long legs haha. I've been taking that class once a week (1 hour class) and I like it, but I really want to do more. I wish I could go to ballet every single day, because I really want to improve and get to do pointe. Can you tell me what I can do to improve faster? Is there a way to take more classes? They only have once a week at the local studios... Advice?
+Leah Schultz I'm also a late starter and I'm now actually attending cpyb for their 5 week summer intensive. even if you can't go to class I highly recommend at least working on conditioning and flexibility at home any more tips and just reply and I'll give you another way to contact me if you want! :)
“I can’t live my whole life and regret not trying” Wiser words have never been spoken. I’m 33 and am kicking myself for not being brave enough to pursue dance when I had the chance. You can always sit at a desk and work, you only have a limited amount of time to use your young body to create art. Don’t waste it.
I am turning 30 trying ballet for the first time, I am committed to it as an every day discipline. I can take me places but I am artist too. So sometimes we do things as we need to. I’m not worried about my age gap I am focused In my joy passion and enthusiasm a lot of it is for health and making sure I am strong in my older years.
So inspiring for us "late bloomers"! I took ballet from age 3 to 11 but quit and then dabbled in some drop-in classes here and there, up till I turned 40. Now I dance at a studio again, and I am LOVING it! I was hesitant to try to start lessons again at my age, but it has been amazing. Thanks for sharing your story!
Thank so much for this, really I also started at 17 and now, a year later, I somehow got accepted at a superior school of dance (here in my country) and today of all days i needed this. so glad I came across your channel. The best of luck to you all
I started dance about a year ago, I am 13 but started at 12, I have not took ballet yet, and I took one class this year. This following fall when classes begin again I am planning on taking much more classes and of course including ballet. I train almost everyday but not as much as I should. I follow others advice to work as hard as I can and watch the other amazing, well known dancers. As i watch the other dancers for the online world that have trained their entire life it tends to bring me down cause i think of what I could have been but later in the day it makes me more determined to work hard to be a better dancer. I have found many inspirations and others that are going through the same journey as me. As I have watched Alexandra's story it has given me much hope in my path as a dancer and I hope her and as well as many others to have a successful and pleasing life as a dancer!
Thanks i needed to hear this. Thank you so much. I'm 24 and I'm going to be 25 tomorrow and I have always loved dance my mum was a dancer and now a dance teacher and my sister dances and although I could always dance. I thought it was ridiculous for me to want to do it to at my age but I went to the circus and was inspired and decided I am finally going to do somthing about my dance ability. I know I have alot to learn I'm going to start at the bottom going to beginners dance classes and learn terminology and all the other basics.
Thank you so much for this, I have been hesitant at starting ballet because I feel like I would have started so late, I'm 16 and have recently fell in love with ballet. I couldn't thank you enough, it really has helped my mindset tremendously. Thank you!!!
I am 16, and I want to start ballet again. I did ballet classes when I was 5 and 6 years old but my parents couldn't afford it after wards. Now that we can I feel like it's too late. I have a dream of being a Ballet dancer. Thank you so much for posting this video, it really made me realise that it is possible for your dreams to come true.
I started when I was 13 and I'm almost 16 now. I can say with a lot of pride that I improved more than I could ever imagine. This was really inspiring!
Thanks for your story... I'm 16 and I love ballet. Everyone tell me i am old for ballet. But now I know that that's not true. You have been an inspiration for me.
This gives me so much hope for my own career in ballet. Although I've been doing ballet basically my whole life, I never considered it as a career choice until I was 15. I'm now 17 and slowly starting to get more opportunities to pursue my dreams of becoming a ballerina. Thank you for this video!
This makes me feel so hopeful. I'm 16, and i started contemporary and jazz last year. I only have 2 hours of dance a week, and it's pretty informal. I'll be taking ballet classes maybe in a few months from now, maybe next year. My biggest difficulties right now are my late starting and my own mind. I'm not exactly great emotionally to actually decide right now and put everything on dance, but as soon as i start feeling better, i will go all for dancing. But for now, i get 2 hours of class a week, and a lot of stretching, workout and practice at home
I'm 28 and just started a few days ago! 😊❤️ Feeling so happy about it because it's gotten me to be active again and be more productive / wise with my time too. I'm go na enjoy the process and be patient with my journey. Good luck to everyone else too! ❤️
This gives me all the hope. Really want to start when I get to college (I'll have just turned 18 when that happens, usually the youngest in my class) and I want to get as far as I physically can. This really gives me inspiration
This mads me so happy, my story is very similar to hers except I danced on and off from the age of three, I never completed a grade in ballet, because I kept moving a lot,. When I moved here to the states, I completely stopped for 4years, But until yesterday, my first time ever dancing again, I went to an audition at Atlanta Ballet, and I was so overwhelmed at how good these girls were, they have doing this for years straight , and there was me with the little that I know, so I ran up to one of the instructors , in tears! and said, " I think I'm in the wrong audition I don't think I can do this." So we stepped outside in the hall, and she told me not to cry it's good that I came up to her because missing out on so many years of training I could have ended up hurting myself, and that I shouldn't give up. So I was saying," what can I do I'm really passionate about ballet." So she gavr me these tickets to go to an adult Ballet class. Hearing your story gave me hope that it's not too late and my dreams can probably still come true. X.
Aww how awesome. I wish I had seen this at 17. At 13 I was discouraged!! I'm way over that age now, with children of my own. However, dancing in some shape or form is still a passion which I am going to pursue!! Live your dreams!!
My only girl is 6 and I’ve felt so guilty we haven’t been able to sign her up for dance yet. I’m not saying she’ll “go pro” but I feel like maybe she’ll be “behind”. Trying to mostly find the time at this point! Stories like this give me hope! Alexandra seems like such a gentle soul with a very positive outlook. I really hope all your dreams come true!!
I came back to dancing at age 21 after taking a 10 year break from ballet. I'm now 23 and now I'm too old to go professional and working full time, I don't have all the hours to put into training. Good luck to everyone making their way in their careers!
I started 2 weeks before my 15th birthday and I'm going to be 17 this year! I want more than anything to go pro, even in a smaller company! Thank you for sharing your experience, I really needed it at the moment!
I did classes when I was 15/16 but I had to stop bc my family couldnt afford it, now i'm 18 and I started college but all I think is about ballet, and you don't know how this video inspired me... I want it so bad!!! Next year I'll try to enter in a free ballet studio and try to get a scholarship in a paid one, wish me luck!!
Thank you!!!! this is so encouraging. i'm 19 and next year i'm going to start dancing. It's something that i've always loved, but was too insecure to even consider to persue professionally. Not sure if i'm doing jazz or ballet, but i'm going for it!
i started at 16 and I'm now in a professional division at a professional ballet school/company and should be company ready in a year in a half or 2...It's definitely possible and im going to school full time..college next year
Well i do most of my practice outside of class, i do my at home excersises (pilates, yoga, etc that you can find on RUclips) i also make sure i do at least 1 to 2 barres everyday and releves(64+)...this is all free so far...as far as private lessons, i actually am pretty poor haha so i watch my teacher's kids in trade for private lessons
Josi domo Pretty cool :) Great work! The babysitting-in-trade-for-lessons is a great idea! I might try that (I am also pretty poor haha). I wish you good luck, keep up the hard work! :)
+Jessica Gomez thanks! I just found out that this will be my last year in the school and then i can auditions for trainee programs and then after that i can join the corps de ballet
I'm 15 , and I'm seriously truly inspired because , for most of my life since I was 5 , I wanted to be in gymnastics , but that couldn't be arranged for me , and I still had dreams to being a gymnastic Olympics but no I guess , life turned around , and then a year ago , I wanted to start ballet because seeing how beautiful the way the moves and positions , I was wowed! The way people are flexible, being amazing at it , it's passion, and I have no dancing skills either , and I'm 15 , for awhile I telling myself that I'm too old to start , but after hearing about a 17 year old stunning girl , I was happy , like extremely blessed and happy ! I want to start now, and see if I can improve my way , because anything is possible and miracles can happen , hmm maybe one day , I might be like Alexandra ! ❤🙂🙏
I've always liked ballet. You know it so elegant and clean, and just so amazing to watch! I've recently watched the nutcracker as a ballet and I was just in AWE all the time, my mouth was like wide open. I always dance around my house all fancy and stuff, I've tried ballet when I was like 6???? but lil old me thought it was too tough. But I've danced before, different kind of styles, still do but I'm just sooo fascinated by it ughhhh im 15, next year 16, should I give it a try?
I started ballet and jazz 2 months before I turned 14! Right now I’m 14 and I’ll be 15 in a few months. I’ve loved it and I’ll be en pointe next year and I’m getting Demi pointes in a few weeks!
I’m 12 I started about 8 months ago and everyone in my class has been doing it all their lives I can keep up with them and I love ballet so much but I don’t know if I can make it to be a professional
I'm 15 and I've always loved ballet but never could do it because of other things, but I want it so bad and secretly I want to go pro but I thought I was to old this inspired me so much thank you!
i’m 14 and a late starter. i’m also in the 9th grade which means i leave school next year and join a different one. and i’m going to try to apply to a dance school, it will be hard working on it but my heart beats so much from excitement just thinking about it. i love ballet and i hope i will spend the rest of my life dancing
This makes me so happy. I'm not into ballet, its music for me, but all day I've been dispairing that I've started too late. To see that you've done so well gives me hope that I can pursue this dream.
I'm n italian girl and I started ballet class at the age of 12. I don't have a perfect body because my knees and my feet aren't good, but i love dancing so much and this story is incredible ** You make me cry because it is a demostration that the assion and the hard work are best things to improve. I'm so happy for her!!!
Do it. You won't regret it. You're young and you're obviously talented. In five years you can be a part of a major troupe somewhere. To you five years seems eternal but it really isn't, (I'm 54). Go for it.
I love this!!! I am 11 years old and I really wanna do ballet, but my mum says I’m too old so I think I’m gunna send her this! Everyone is doubting me for doing ballet but I have been practicing for ages and I thought I was at least okay. Should I send this to my mum?
Waw! you are just amazing! Congratulations on following your dreams and succeed at them! I've always wanted to do ballet when i was young but it was too expensive for my parents. Now i'm 24 and only now I managed to find a very cheap adult ballet program from a RAD teacher and it is like i'm that little girl again. She thought that i had ballet training when i wen to the first class. She is amazed by my legs and feet. She says that i'm a natural. ahhh...Only if i was a little bit younger...
I started ballet when I was 16 at an informal studio and have been doin it since then (I’m 18 now). I struggle to find the time and money sometimes, but I try to make it work. I go to a formal ballet school now and have improved so much! Up until this past year, I was for sure thinking about going into college for art, but I decided at the being of my senior year to go to college for dance and whether that takes me to a company or takes me to be a teacher, I’m totally up for it. I love dance so much and want it to be my life. This story is really inspiring because I have either heard a lot of stories about dancers starting young or storied about older adults starting ballet (and they are great stories, but I just can’t relate to them much).
This is amazing. Thank you so much for sharing, I was so scared I wouldn't be able to get anywhere. I'm 20 and about to take my first class in a few weeks! I'm so excited!!
I'm 15 I just started. I'm in intermediate 1 and it's really easy but intermediate 2 is really hard I took they in the summer because that is what was open. I'm hoping to just improve and be on the company but I probably will never make it because my parents don't have so much money. I want to start working soon. I did gymnastics in the past but kept injuring myself. So I'm very flexible and strong.
+Hana Stýblová Yes, I can do all three splits. It's important to remember to stretch AND strengthen! Don't do too much or too little of either :) Thanks, I wish you all the best too!
i’m starting pointe this month and i’m 17 i started ballet in October and never took a dance class before that, i relate so much to her, minus the going pro :’)
Such an amazing video. I started ballet when i was 11 because i wasn't able to earlier due to a medical condition. I am 14 now and almost caught up but i still worry everyday. This video has boosted my confidence out of the roof. Ballet is for everyone and people who start still have a chance at achieving great things. Thank you!!!
I'm so happy to see this, I'm 13 and just started ballet and want to go pro for sure! People have always told me I would've needed to have started since I'm so pleased there is someone else who can do it x
I’ve been doing martial arts since I was 5 years old, and then started dancing urban at the age of 15. Recently I thought of taking ballet clases at almost 18 and I’m pretty excited, nervous and scared about it. I was afraid of being too late, and that my body wouldn’t work and learn in the way I want it too, but this video really encouraged me and I’m so much calm now. Thank u so much for sharing this
As a 22 year old who danced ballet recreationally for >10 years, was a competitive figure skater for 8 years and a competitive ballroom dancer for 2... I have hope, once again. All I want to do is be a ballet dancer in a company
Im so happy I saw this! I am 16 and always think I will never be able to get into a full time programme! Now I've seen this I am considering going here! I'm from the UK so it will be a big move but if it means I get to train everyday - then sign me up! Again thank you for sharing this with us!
Omg i needed this video. My dream since i can remember was to be a ballerina but it just never happened. Now im dying to take ballet but i always thought it would never happen cuz im 18, im so going for it now
Wow... This gives me so much more hope. I started freshman year. I tried out for my high school dance team end of 8th grade, and got in. For training and practice, we do ballet and are required to take ballet classes in studios, thus I have been dancing since. Since then, I have been trained and am very familiar with a diverse amount of dance categories such as hip hop and even contemporary for the team. I always look at professionals and kid dancers wat younger than me who are very advanced and I'm here like .-. wooowzaa... I can't be that good. Ever. But this video gives me a little more hope in pursuing my goals. Thank you very much, you are inspirational to me now💓 Head over heels in love with dance and I wouldn't quit!
I just want to comment Hm maybe. It it too late when your muscles aren't working well anymore. It is too late when your back cracks everytime u move. It is too late when you can't move your muscles well. Basically it ls NEVER too late unless you're a grandma.
Ignore the first comment!! Not to late to start at all!! You could even compete if you get good enough!! Don’t give up, give it your all! You’re amazing!!!
I’d love to hear what you have to say because the ballet world has only gotten more competitive over the years.
this is so inspirational thank you 😍
Wow, that's amazing, I want to start ballet at 17 but I'm scared I'm not gonna suceed
Congrats!!! Thank u for commenting this u made me feel waaay better. Ill work hard and and congrats againnn
I'm starting at 17. How did you get there? Did you start doing multiple classes a week?
I really want to hear tips and learn from your experience! How did you do it?
Hey...I'm 18 now but i have a pathetic posture...can i learn contemporary dance??
Courtne Joy woah! Congratulations! I also started taking ballet classes at 18! Unfortunately, I stopped for a year :< It is very hard to find a ballet school that teach adult ballet here in the Philippines, especially when you’re living in a province. But upon watching this video and reading your comment, I realized I shouldn’t down grade myself for starting late at ballet. I always do the exercises and stretches that I was taught during the first months in my ballet class.
I started ballet 2 1/2 years ago, and now at the age of 20 I am a professional trainee in Chicago.
Congratulations!!
I am fourteen and I hope to go on pointe eventually.Do you think this is realistic?
I also want to join ballet and have no dance experience.
Sarah Baron yes possibly! you need to find a really good ballet school and take class as many times a week as you can.
Bianca Aletti I'm 13 and I thought I was too late until I read this comment.
Bianca Aletti misty Copeland started at 13
Misty Copeland started at 14!
Im 11 and i wanna start because of this video . But my mom disagrees because i have scoliosis . 😭
@@dogloverxox9125 So did I, so I didn't try, and now I am 21 and regret it. I hope you went for it. :)
I did ballet when I was 5,6, and 9, but I stuck mostly to gymnastics and did cheerleading instead when I reached middle school and high school.
I'm 17 and I've always wanted to dance but my parents couldn't afford the classes and training now that we can afford it I feel like it's too late, but this has really inspired me and made me think I can actually do this and fulfill a childhood dream of mine.
Same. I want to learn as well but the classes are expensive and I am turning 17 :/ :/
katie harvey yeah true but I know it won't be easy. Even if you start early. I'm not looking for easy just looking for possible, with enough work anything is possible. I just needed the boost of motivation and inspiration.
Tiffany Duran I am so proud of you :) you guys will be my inspiration because i think its too late for me too
Tiffany I always wanted to be a ballerina just like you and I was always told thats its too late for me to start
Im almost seventeen and I just started ballet classes and to be honest nothing felt as good as this in my life.
You guys have no idea how much I needed this at the moment. Thank you so much for this video
that makes two!
I was crying uncontrollably about being a late dancer just now and this made me better :,))
Awe ❤️
May your dreams come true
I’m 11 and I’m going to start when lockdown allows me, and this video made me realise that I have plenty of time to train to be professional! I had been distressed about it before, thinking I was a late dancer, but I’m so so so happy as I know that’s not true!!
@@lilperson6033 omg girl your so young you have plenty of time!
@@lilperson6033 You may be a little late, but your not really late until your like 13. You can do good.
I'm 19 and this made me feel better. Anyone can be a professional as long as you put your mind into it.
I knew it was temporary, I never gave up, I paid the price and got what I wanted.
i read this comment like a year ago, and i remeber you, your story is inspiring!! thank you for sharing.
+SweetieL27 Awesome!!! This is great to hear! Dancing in Paris will be amazing - I'm so jealous!
omg
I was just so depressed because I'm 15 and I'm discovered baller this years and that just blows my mind
and I just thought that I want to do this for the rest of my life and become a pro
but EVERYBODY is that saying that this is IMPOSSIBLE
and I was so sad
but now that I know your story I feel really inspired
thank you so much
I cried a lot ;-;
You shouldn't listen to them if you work hard and have the drive and passion and work on technique you can do it 😊👌🏻
laura dutra i'm all with you !!! go work and persue your dreams i know you can do it !!
Omg guys
A miracle happend
I spend the last year practicing so hard
Everyday
And this month I did the test for enter in the intermediary class
And I just passed !!
So basically if everything goes well
I will graduate in classical ballet next year
I just can't believe it 🙌🙌
laura dutra oh my gooooddd im so happy for you !!! How did you do that, what did you do at home ? How old are you ? I'm impressed!! I would love to do that...
I've been training in home every day for about 7 months
I'm 15
I have no idea how this just happened
But I will keep u updated 😋
i am almost crying because of this coments, us as dancers who started “late” usually feel so alone and hopeless because it isn’t the kind of story you usually see... i am so glad i have found people with the same path as I... thank you, you have no idea how much this helped me
I believe you will find in smaller regional companies there are many professional dancers who started late.
Calvionne County CONGRATS! ❤️️❤️️
congratulations girl!
How did you do it? Mygoodness. I want to learn from you!
You won't regret it!
thanks
this is really encouraging to read.
Stephanie Campillo yes!! I've just started tap and I'm only a couple of years younger!!
Anyway, I hope whoever's reading this has a great day!~
+Alexis Ann Very cool! Keep with it! That's a lot of dancing!
I'm 15 and going am taking my first ballet class. I have the same goal you do, so I would love to watch any video you make of your progression :)
Jenny how was/is it so far
Im 14, And starting ballet in a month. I wrnt to ballet when I In as like 3-5 years, But I stopped because of some stupid reason, And ive gained so much confidence and Yes, I may be overweight, But yk what? If somebody loves ballet it doesnt matter if theyre fat, old or ugly, If you love ballet then youre always perfect!
Pim Merlund you can't be overweight when doing ballet because you'll be putting too much pressure on your ankles
@@pimmerlund8177 did you start
I'm so glad Alexandra shared her story! I would love to hear where she is now
I’m 23 and just started takin classes 3x a week, my teacher keeps telling me she’s impressed with me and how intuitive I am, she thought I had danced before. I know it’s too late to become a professional but I’m hoping next summer I can take classes in Chicago since I have family there.
This is truly amazing!!!!
Im 15 years old and i want to dance for a prestige ballet company, because of you.. There is atleast 50% more determination in all of us! Thank You
You made this comment 7 years ago so I’d love to know how that’s going for you
I started ballet when I was thirteen and i was put in a class with eleven year olds (not that bad i know) but the others were flexible af, and could do tricks that were practically impossible for me, but my ballet teacher still let me go en pointe with them the same year! :D
She is so humble about it, inspiring to adult dancers thank you!
+Bron Stormborn That's awesome! Keep with it!
did you got it?
+Melody Headburn I did!!!
Oh wow congratulations!
are you at a ballet school or an actual company?
I'm 17 now, and started only a year ago. Thank you for highlighting this story, great to see and gives me so much hope to keep following my dream!
How are you doing now? I just started maybe a year ago at 16
@@pancakeart5747 hi!
Alexandra Friedman are you available to talk to
Is your insta still up? 😃 You're so inspirational & I'd love to follow your journey! 😍
I can’t find your insta :(
“I can’t live my whole life and regret not trying” Wiser words have never been spoken.
Has anyone caught up with her lately? It"s almost been a year.
It's been two years now!
@@swinxfee it's been five years now since the video posted! I want to know if she got into a company or not... hopefully!
I found her insta @abcoll.Friedman, last time she updated was Oct 6
So inspiring for us "late bloomers"! I took ballet from age 3 to 11 but quit and then dabbled in some drop-in classes here and there, up till I turned 40. Now I dance at a studio again, and I am LOVING it! I was hesitant to try to start lessons again at my age, but it has been amazing. Thanks for sharing your story!
Love hearing this, Jennifer! So happy for you!!
Thank so much for this, really
I also started at 17 and now, a year later, I somehow got accepted at a superior school of dance (here in my country) and today of all days i needed this. so glad I came across your channel.
The best of luck to you all
Are you still dancing now?
I started at 51!!!!! gah it hurts!
SO inspiring. not just for ballet. but for LIFE.
Was she already flexible beforehand? It is quite impressive to have gained that much flexibiiltyso nicely!!
I love her! You can tell how excited she is about having a chance at being a professional ballerina and it's awesome.
I am now 18 btw!
+Diana Munroe Wonderful to hear! Keep it with! (I auditioned with Atlanta Ballet dancers years and years ago - they were definitely intimidating!)
I started ballet at 13 (about a year ago) and it is my dream to go pro! these comments and this video has really inspired me ❤
I started 2 weeks before my 15th birthday and I'm going to be 17 this year!
Not sure if i'm doing jazz or ballet, but i'm going for it!
i started at 16 and I'm now in a professional division at a professional ballet school/company and should be company ready in a year in a half or 2...It's definitely possible and im going to school full time..college next year
im also 17 years old...lots of private practice and hours outside of class to get this far...soo close to being in a company
May I ask how you could afford extra classes and private lessons? :)
But I've danced before, different kind of styles, still do but I'm just sooo fascinated by it ughhhh
im 15, next year 16, should I give it a try?
I started ballet and jazz 2 months before I turned 14! Right now I’m 14 and I’ll be 15 in a few months. I’ve loved it and I’ll be en pointe next year and I’m getting Demi pointes in a few weeks!
I’m 12 I started about 8 months ago and everyone in my class has been doing it all their lives I can keep up with them and I love ballet so much but I don’t know if I can make it to be a professional
It’s okay! If it’s what you really want to do, and you work hard, you will get there! ❤️
In about a month, I will turn 17 and I had my first ballet class yesterday. It was so exiting and I loved it!
I'm 15 and I've always loved ballet but never could do it because of other things, but I want it so bad and secretly I want to go pro but I thought I was to old this inspired me so much thank you!
I want to join ballet and I am already 16. This is so inspiring! Thank you for sharing!
i’m 14 and a late starter. i’m also in the 9th grade which means i leave school next year and join a different one. and i’m going to try to apply to a dance school, it will be hard working on it but my heart beats so much from excitement just thinking about it. i love ballet and i hope i will spend the rest of my life dancing
Hello, my I started ballet late too and I hope to become a dancer in the future. I wish you the best of luck. I'm a male by the way.
OMG! My name is Alexandra, I am 17, and I am planning on getting back into dance after 10 years! This is so weird.
I desperately want to start ballet. I’m 15 and hoping to start in the fall and really hope that if I work hard I can become a professional.
I'm so inspired now and I'm 15 I'm thinking about taking my first ballet class
Do it! I started when I was 15 (September last year) and I love it so much!
Amazing! When did she start pointe then?
Samantha Camden it tooo me 1 week to get on point after taking a 1 1/2 year break
Alexandra, What a wonderful story! Thanks for sharing. Don't give up!!
Oh my goodness this convinced me to actually start! I was so scared to embarrass myself but the video and the comments motivate me so much!!
Do it. You won't regret it. You're young and you're obviously talented. In five years you can be a part of a major troupe somewhere. To you five years seems eternal but it really isn't, (I'm 54). Go for it.
I’m 13 and i’ve just started ballet and i absolutely love it!
Eveline How many days a week?
I started ballet a few months ago at 18. Never taken dance classes before, but I have always wanted to learn ballet, and now I am!
Good for you!! Yay!
I love her smile. I can really relate to this passion ...I’m 3 years older but I hope i could do a bit like this...
I love this!!!
I am 11 years old and I really wanna do ballet, but my mum says I’m too old so I think I’m gunna send her this! Everyone is doubting me for doing ballet but I have been practicing for ages and I thought I was at least okay. Should I send this to my mum?
yes of course do you know Misty Copeland? she started at 13 and became a very good and famous dancer.
Telling an 11 year old that their old is just evil and obviously a lie, don't listen to that crap.
I started ballet at 16 and dance at 14/15 when everyone else around me started from like 2 lol, this video inspired me!
So where's Alexandra now? Any updates?
Waw! you are just amazing!
I'm so excited!!
breezter hey! I just turned 20 and took my first class last week. Could you tell me how you've been doing now? :)
I definitely needed this. I'm 17 and just started ballet like two months ago. I really love dancing, It would be a dream to do it professionally.
Thann you so so much. I'm 15 And i wanna start dancing ballet ❤️.
Hey, I started at 16, and "seriously" at almost 20 :/
How flexible are you? Can you do the middle split?
Wish you luck!
I'm 17 and I'm starting ballet to!
Please give us a follow up of what happened to Alexandra. Im sure many would like to know.
this made me so so so happy like maybe i have a chance!
Update!!! I was 16 and a mom lol. I’m not pro but I’m 43 now and teaching beginning ballet to adults!! I hope I get a student like you.
I started kathak(Indian classical) at the age of 18
I'm so happy to see this, I'm 13 and just started ballet and want to go pro for sure! People have always told me I would've needed to have started since I'm so pleased there is someone else who can do it x
Oh you can do it without any problem ! Work is key ! Good luck :)
I’m 14, started ballet 5 months ago, you got this!
Im 13 and I started dance last year. Now i feel more confident that I can do it. ;)
I really want to start ballet and I'm 15, can I ever get on point? And can I ever become good enough to do a performance?
Is it too late to start?
I just want to comment Hm maybe.
It it too late when your muscles aren't working well anymore. It is too late when your back cracks everytime u move. It is too late when you can't move your muscles well. Basically it ls NEVER too late unless you're a grandma.
Lolyk Gt actually people start at 60 too these days 😂
Ignore the first comment!! Not to late to start at all!! You could even compete if you get good enough!! Don’t give up, give it your all! You’re amazing!!!
Emily Davis I don’t think you understand the comment.
