First time going direct from a video to order the product, well thought out review and plug in. Can’t wait to spend 90% less time trying to get vocals to sit in mixes!
You should level match the plugin by turning down the output so when you by-pass the plugin the volume is the same. That will give you a much better representation of how the plugin sounds with the rest of the processing. The compressor is turning up the makeup gain so much that when bypassed you cant hear it. This is the way you typically want to demo plugins. Other than that, nice demo.
@@xDamageProducer Then you could group the instrumental to a bus and lower it until the raw vocal is present, then A/B with the processed vocal. I agree with Home Recording Made Easy. The A/B compare that was done isn't useful, however, this video does give a feel for the plugin.
Yeah I just bought this on the strength of your demo. The fact is I don't want to spend too much time dialing in a great sound and this plugin is nicely intuitive and with enough features to cover everything most of us would ever need. The built in chains are great and there's a ton of variety there to pick from to make things even easier. Nice work.
Definitely buying this. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. It’ll definitely help in my studio with the singers who don’t have a lot of punch behind their voice or have been higher voices. Thank you again.
2:07 "Digital screwdriver" lollll. Love the review and basically a tutorial for us now getting into this kind of stuff. Thank You! Gotta get me one of this!
Bought it, and used it to turn one of my older songs which I'd always considered lacked something, into the wide echoey Life is strange'esque kind of mix it was always meant to be, but I'd never been able to achieve. :)
I got the Platnikoff guitar plugin and it is very good. This one is very impressive also. I'm definitely going to be a fan of that particular brand. For me who^s not an enfineer at all and want to release listenable stuff quickly, that thing is awesome !
Very cool plugin. I wish they'd partner with Antares or license Autotune so that this plugin could truly be a one stop shop for vocal production by adding time and pitch correction.
LMAO @ 16:50! LULZ....dude...you cracked me up...thanks for the laugh. Give me a transparent sounding EQ like the fabfilter Q3 that hits the waves Renaissance compressor, Auto tune, then maybe add a bitchin doubler... like waves doubler, and maybe even soundtoys echo boy or Waves H delay to add some time based delay to the vocal. Then throw on some valhalla vintageverb or roomverb....waves golden room in Rverb... and you're golden. Still working on perfecting SurfEq2 for pitch based EQ...it's juuuuuust not quite there for me yet. But...lots of people love it. I've heard a ton of these "vocal chain" bundles and it really depends on your style of music. This set up is outrageous for pop and rock vocals though. They're hitting like 80% and that's more than I can say for most of them.
I'm impressed. Using individual plugins for each effect can get expensive, cough UA cough. As a musician, I am always looking for quality solutions that save time. When is this actually available?
Pleeeze, a pre-comp-eq maybe a stereo image with tight low end in center and bus-aux sends to verbs is the essential vocal strip, why limit yourself to this joke?
I’m halfway through the video. Assuming you didn’t do it in this video, I would love to see you mix some of your vocals from scratch too!! Edit: You did end up doing it towards the end! Nice!!
For me the main takeaway is to never wear an unzipped hoodie over a raglan shirt with the same body color, as the shoulder contrast color ends up looking like a big '70s butterfly collar popping out from under a sweater. 😆
Question for people mixing with this plugin... do you find yourself putting anything before or after this plugin when mixing? I just recently purchased this and I really feel it sounds great all on its own. Just curious what others usually do. (like more eq, more compression, etc)
What about a real time live situation? Is there a delay? I don't think I would replace my VoiceLive but this could be an alternative in case my unit dies. Except obviously for the harmonizer part.
Super sick plugin, but come on man. Doing a comparison with a minus 10db difference when bypassed is something that amateur reviewers do, not a person who has a dedicated RUclips channel for gear testing and comparisons.
Are there any plugins lime this built for guitars and other instruments besides vocals? This is all in one chain for vocals made it really easy for me to understand without having to do a bunch of other things and being able to this with other instruments would streamline the workflow for me. I feel so overwhelmed with mixing my own songs but this was helpful
Yo dawg, the "bell" switch changes the filter from being a SHELF type filter to a PEAK type filter. So actually does the opposite of broadening. So you know.
I could do that with anything in my arsenal. SSL EQ, 1176, L1.... These plugins are for people that don't have a clue, or aren't interested in learning and exploring new sounds.
right, like I said in the video, it's mainly for singers who don't want to also be engineers, sounds like you're an engineer so it's not really for you
Can you use it standalone to boost the monitor signal while tracking? I was recording a friend’s vocals for a demo the other day and he kept asking for more volume in the headphones (both the music as well as his vocals). I’m pretty sure he’s deaf, because I had to turn mine down on the headphones mixer while his was maxed. I ended up maxing out every part of the signal chain possible without clipping. We ran out of time, but the only option I can think of for next time is to amp his headphones. But I also feel like this is excessive and shouldn’t be necessary.
idk, to me these settings sound very computery, almost as if autotune is kicking in, bashing the original away (which i like to keep as much as possible), especially the multiplier. as you said, it seems like a very fast way to set vocals for monitoring during tracking. however, i don't see myself using it for mixing. the ease of use is one thing and i'm a big fan of that. i like the way this compressor works, could save some time. i would very much appreciate the possibility of "side-chaining" inside the plugin - to be able to set up several matrices and use each plugin maybe even multiple times for different chains. maybe even send a signal to an external track and bounce it back? and is it me or am i creating a daw inside a plugin here? about that delay... it didn't persuade me to move from timeless. but hey, to each their own, right? anyway i still think it is a great addition to the whole plugin family. and if i'm writing tons of bs, feel free to send it over to Glenn for stupid texts!
It's all knobs and ball bearings these days. Seriously thinking of preordering because I do all my own singing and I suck. Melodyne+This maybe theres a chance lol. Great demo man🤘
I respect your work JST, it sounds impressive and looks sharp; but it seems to be designed for amateur workflows at a price only working pros could reasonably justify. As one who has actually purchased roughly 10-20% of all VSTs on the market, I'm a bit baffled about who this is for. Singers? I am one, and have worked with many dozens. I think you'll find the vast majority have spent less money on their entire DAW+plugins, than what you are asking here. Now, if I could independently buy just one or two of these modules at a reasonable price, I (and I suspect many others) would be all over it. Just my two cents. Nice work guys, keep 'um coming!
All plugins work on the same principles and you can do more with stock JST and REa plugins than you can do with the 20 grand you spent searching for thigs that are not there.
Trey - thank you so much. I love this video demo / review so much!
yawn, he talks too much
I was wiffle-waffling on what to do about vocals, and saw both this video and Jonathan Young's "Chemicals" - and that did it.
Terrific investment.
Great video, but for the love of god please do bypass comparisons with the same volume for fairness.
I thought the same... what a complete BS comparison lmao...
I bought this quite awhile ago and love the simplicity!
"When Elize asks you just say yes" 😂 Truer words have never been spoken 🤘 That song came out very well btw
Pre-ordering right away. Also getting the digital screwdriver, thanks for the tip.
This will be the second time you have gotten me to purchase something before the video is even over.
Good job.

if he did that then the processed vocal would also be so quiet it disappears. The recorded track was super quiet.

Great to hear!
Man, when was the last time I heard someone so sincerely enthusiastic about it being 2020?
You saying to use it as an easy vocal chain for the monitoring is a fantastic idea.
Great plug-in and as always you started with an incredible source, great vocal take.
Thanks dude, this is the BEST rundown!
That freaking doubling! Holy shit! I just bought the plugin an hour ago, so freaking stoked to try it!
I preordered it. I can't wait!

Damn, the amount of extremely well made plugins that are being released this year is substantial lol

Elize's voice is amazing. Also, you missed the opportunity to name the preset "Für Elize"
That's exactly what I thought.
Always great content

Love Elize! She's amazing
I find very confusing that this plugin has no de-esser.
Eternal Tom maybe we can add it later
Agreed! Even the Scheps Omni by waves has TWO de-essers built-in (sick plug, check it out)
@@joeymusic Awesome! That would make an already good plug-in complete.

Or some form of auto tune

Great video dude!!
Very cool plugin. I wish they'd partner with Antares or license Autotune so that this plugin could truly be a one stop shop for vocal production by adding time and pitch correction.
Yeah that could be cool but I think that would double the price of it and probably use WAAYYY more processing
It would also give people an excuse to not sing in time or key lol
This thing is so CoOl great demo
This plugin is so ridiculous. Easy and super usable sounding

The plugin is low latency (no delay) for real-time applications.

Nice plugin. Ever try loudness matching? Of course it sounds better ten times louder.
James Gramze even if you ignore the loudness you can hear the changes within the dynamic range

Good Shit man, Did you try VocalSyth2? its got some weird ass options for vocal tracks,i like the saturated sound of this JST HBV.
What music maker are you using in the background?
What individual plugin could be used for the multiplier part (I don't plan on buying the JST HB plugin but I liked the effect of that module)?
Also, what system do I need to use the vocals on? Do I need to download another system to do the music?
I mean, I use slate vmr already. I might have to go pick this up for a different flavor though.

Can you like live track with that? Like singing and hearing the signal chain like an outboard gear?
The easiest way to do that is just to put it on a bus and send that to a track and print it as you go, but that's something you can do with any plugin
