So I’ve traveled to a lot of places around the world but for some reason I had never been to a national park!! Well that all changed last may when for my fortieth birthday we went to the mighty five in Utah and the Grand Canyon in Arizona. I cannot describe the feelings I felt when I saw the Grand Canyon for the first time. There were tears steaming down my face!! I can’t wait to have the opportunity to explore more of these beautiful places and have loved watching this series!! Thank you so much!!
Loved this video! Welcome back to Virginia, Howard and Katelyn! Old Rag has been my favorite hike in SNP since I hiked it the first time in 1979. I hiked it again a couple of years ago in 2021 so I could make a video to post on my channel. It was much harder as a 60 year old. Haha. Your national park series has been terrific! Keep up the great work.
Oh hon! Katelyn! Please do NOT feel obligated to do something too difficult or dangerous!…meaning too much smoke in the air. Err on the side of caution, they say. Yosemite has had many wildfires within its borders, and Tim and I have been in there during those fires. It is sooooo unhealthful to breathe-in that toxic smoke. Anywho, I DO applaud your efforts! Ohhhhh, to be 32 again! Please be careful and stay safe, and avoid any dangerous stunts! Love ya 🩷, Virginia
I’m with you! Checked it off, don’t need to do it again. But, so glad I did it and beautiful views. I was wondering if you all did the leap of faith or if you worked around it. I worked around it, just couldn’t bring myself to jump it lol. Happy Holidays!
Honestly, each National Park was my favorite whenever you posted your videos. They are all so diverse, and each one has its own special magic to draw you in and get you to say wow. So glad you're getting time to relax and unwind before the New Year. Hope you're all well (the fur-girls too) and you have a wonderful Christmas and New Year's. Thanks for sharing all of your wonderful adventures with all of us, and taking us along for the ride.
I have really appreciated and enjoyed your National Park tours... I'm glad that you are going to continue the park tour next year. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the Parks!!! Thank you!
Wow, you guys rock! 🤘🏻 The view at the top was amazing 🤩 Difficult but so much worth it. 🙌 It was a great year for you, lots of great discoveries. 🌳🏔️🥾Happy Holidays 🎉 Anne & Eric
We lived in Northern Virginia for many years, and we never hiked these parks...can't believe that we missed this beautiful experience! Love your videos, you guys do a wonderful presentation and we appreciate you!
You’ve done a great job highlighting each of the National Parks and the things you have found to do and places to eat! Shenandoah National Park is a favorite of mine. Not only because of the scenery and hiking but many moons ago we spent our honeymoon in a cabin at Skyland.
Wow, that trail looked even more challenging than the Precipice Trail at Acadia, though those with a fear of heights would probably do better with the Old Rag Trail. This makes us really excited to visit Shenandoah!
Omg this hike gave me hiking PTSD! We just did a hike (video this week) on a hike we did in southern Arizona to smilers Peak in the Huachuca Mountains. 3000 ft elevation and it was getting dark! Like you, I said glad I did it but one and done! Good for you for stepping out of your comfort zone and doing this! You have no idea how inspirational it is for others. Safe travels! - Mike and Shelley
My wife and I lived in the Waynesboro area for 17 years. We used to go up Afton mtn and went to the right which was blue ridge pky. We very rarely went on skyline dr but had been to big meadows a handful of times. The whole area is absolutely beautiful but being a mailman going in n 23 years I finally decided heat and sunshine for the back end of my career so now were in Tucson.
Awesome scramble hike. I will do it when I get there. I wish I could show you pics of the scramble hike up Picacho peak near Tucson. Pull it up on all trails or Gia
Picacho is Amazing! I've done it a few times and I've only had one friend who chickend out and didn't go up the cable section. Its honestly not that physically demanding.
Who Dey 🐅We enjoyed the video. I’m beginning to think that my favorite national park is whichever one that was in your video each week. We were In Shenandoah NP in 2022 & loved it. I must say though that I was surprised when Howard passed the Virginia pronunciations off to Katelyn. I can understand the difficulty with Botetourt but when I didn’t hear an ‘oat’ (for out) & ‘aboat’ (for about) I was starting to wonder. 🤔 But when I didn’t hear ‘far’ (for fire), I knew we were talking more central Virginia! Keep up the good work guys & looking forward to more in 24! And yes I’m an Appalachian poet & don’t know it😂.
Great job hiking the Old Rag trail. We did not attempt this hike. This park is so pretty. I can’t wait for this series to continue. I think Glacier is one of my favorite parks. I can’t wait for you to go to Grand Teton in the New Year. Happy Holidays. Enjoy your much deserved break in FL.
It's a tough one for sure, I was surprised I wanted to tackle it because I was definitely nervous 😅 oh Glacier is a great one! Sooo beautiful. We can't wait to continue to! Happy holidays! 🥰 -Katelyn
Thank you for such a wonderful series on the national parks here in the USA. We thoroughly enjoyed your content and eagerly await what you have to announce and present in 2024. Happy Holidays and safe travels.
I live in Louisville KY and it took 57 years to see Natural Bridge State Park 98 miles away. So don’t feel too bad. I haven’t visited Mammoth Cave National Park, but I am claustrophobic. So we will see. Great video series!
hey, i can see Old Rag from my house in Warrenton VA! i love the way you take us places we will never hike, like this rock scramble, and also like that one out west that was the cave homes of indigenous people
What a great video to end the year on, 🤞 if I go to Shenandoah National Park the weather will be for me, as it was for you two! Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas 🎄
Great video. We live in Va and visit that area several times each year. I have never hiked the Old Rag. In my 70’s now, so probably not in my future unless I take plan B going and coming. Enjoy your vacation and see you next year! Happy New Travel Year!
I’m 10’6” for the win 😂. Love HH, we’ve stayed at a few and I really enjoyed them. We have driven skyline drive a few times over the years but never camped. I think Big Meadow campground is a dark sky area too 🤔. You would catch me on the fire road probably hitchhiking 👍🏼. Can’t wait to see some more parks and I can’t wait to check them off my own list. ✌🏼
Holy cow - you are both rockstars! I would need longer legs for that hike and the rock scrambling! It is funny how some of us haven't explored parks that were semi-close to where we lived - never been to Yosemite and it was only 300 or so miles away. But I have been to the Channel Islands National Park more times than I can count! 34 National Parks is amazing!
Haha thank you! We felt very accomplished! 💪 That is funny, isn't it!? Channel Islands is a gem. Yes! Still can't believe we visited 34 of them. Can't wait to continue next year!
probably, that was about 7 or 8 years ago, my brothers best friend was there teac hing mountain rescue, he worked for nps. enjoy your next park@@NewstateNomads
Wow! What an incredible adventure, following you across the country, enjoying so many spectacular vistas on each video! Thanks so much for all of your time/effort, preparing/sharing your experiences at each location. I may not have done every park like you did, but your videos brought back such wonderful memories for me as well! Travel is really intoxicating...haha! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year down in FL. FYI, I lived in Miami for nearly 10 years, back in the 80's! Now that was the place to be when I was much younger. Cheers for now!
Katelyn, as you were scrambling over the rocks, I kept wondering about your beautifully manicured hands, and wondered if you wished you had some gloves to protect them.
So when one pronounces “Appalachian”, does it rhyme with “crustacean? That’s how I’ve often heard it.. love the technical difficulty equation. You almost need a chalk bag for that summit hike!
November was chilly, especially up on the Bridge Walk. But they do offer the walk year round if you're feeling adventurous! I would just pack extra layers.

I moved to Winchester last year and when I found out this park is 30 mins from my house we’ve been here so much and still have soooooo much to explore

our all time favorite is Acadia, and we have visited so many times. next would be yellowstone, and we need to get back. on our bucket list is denali.
Those mountains were so nice.

A really nice season ender. We did the Utah 5 last May and Bryce was a favourite.

Great park! 🌲
When you got off on 211, you should have gone to Sperryvile and seen Crazy Cooter and the Dukes of hazzard car
An awesome video as usual. We have added so many parks to our adventures. Based on your adventures.
Wow, watching your video on channel islands laid out my plans to visit. Thanks. I camped overnight. I will go back
Love your channel and look forward to each installment!
This was a great episode! I've never hiked Old Rag, but it's definitely on my bucket list. Thanks for all you do for us!! Happy Holidays!
Thanks guys, we loved the video… great ideas for our future trips!
We enjoy your videos. We have watched from the start. I must have missed something, where are the other dogs. I just see one in the recent videos?

Great video~
I was at the overland expo in Arrington Va the first weekend in October~
Curious how your puggles are doing?
we did a horsback ride in the park. a very beautiful park, and then his skyline drive
Oh I bet that was beautiful to see via horseback! I saw the stables up at Skyland. Is that where you took the ride from?
probably, that was about 7 or 8 years ago, my brothers best friend was there teac hing mountain rescue, he worked for nps. enjoy your next park@@NewstateNomads

That hike remind of the whit mountains . This look fun
Really enjoy your channel.
Beautiful but difficult! New RV???? We are thinking of going smaller! Coachman Gallaria Li3 😅
Howard I could not stop laughing with you definition on how hikes are classified .
Katelyn, as you were scrambling over the rocks, I kept wondering about your beautifully manicured hands, and wondered if you wished you had some gloves to protect them.
I had gloves but didn't use them 🤣 I learned long ago that manicures don't last long in RV life! Too hands on haha so I just paint them myself 🥰
So when one pronounces “Appalachian”, does it rhyme with “crustacean? That’s how I’ve often heard it.. love the technical difficulty equation. You almost need a chalk bag for that summit hike!
There's no water on Old Rag except maybe for some pools of rainwater on the rocks and close to the shelter at the lower elevation.
Hello. What about the remaining national parks?
What was the time you guys visited here..Never mind noted its Nov 4th was it so cold that time, how it would be during December end
November was chilly, especially up on the Bridge Walk. But they do offer the walk year round if you're feeling adventurous! I would just pack extra layers.
How do you know how to pronounce Botetourt County? Even Northern Va mess that up. BTW.Lived there at Read Mtn.
I had to pass through that area on my drive to college every year. Plus... it may or may not have been where I got my first ever speeding ticket. 😂😮
