What a great channel and fab delivery. I’ve binge watched and subbed. It’s great to see younger families have found and identified with the teachings of Dave Ramsey. It really is a game changer. Personally paid off my house ten years early so a definite advocate for the programme.
Hi Leanne, nice video. I’m trying to teach my son how to budget and shop smarter for university. I actually picked up two of those chickens yesterday. They are excellent value for money at the moment. I would suggest a couple of small tweaks. I’d also include a butter nut squash especially in the winter and I’d use use half the milk and the chicken stock to make a really delicious soup. All my vegetable scraps go into my stocks, and it means virtually nothing is wasted. I often do a second round of stock with the same chicken carcass, and I roast the bones and carcass to increase the flavour. I’d have skipped the blueberry’s and picked up some turkey mince or a cheap cut of pork and mince that at home - I think it’s much better than the sausage meat that is pre-packaged in Waitrose. I try to look on the yellow label section especially for fruit and vegetables. I brought a red cabbage and an apple to make my own stewed red cabbage at home. I’d suggest buying rice in larger quantities in an Asian grocery store. It’s generally much better quality and way better priced. I cook it in batches and freeze to avoid wastage. One other tip I always use the grocery scanning App as it’s really helpful to look at your spending as you shop. The meat and fish counter in Waitrose sometimes has some amazing mark-down bargains so I’d always look there, just an example, I picked up 4 limes in Waitrose yesterday as they were closing for 10p. They had a trolley next to the self-scan checkouts full of mark-downs.Each week I look in the online Apps and compare prices of some products between grocery stores and I sometimes end up with lists that split my shopping between different shops to optimise spending. I’d love to see a comparison App to make this process faster! I also buy beef dripping in packets in Waitrose to cook roast potatoes as it’s way cheaper than olive oil! Loved this video. I will watch more of your ideas 💡 thanks Barry
I forgot to mention tinned sardines! Amazing source of protein and always look at the eggs in Waitrose they are often discounted but not near the first isle
This was such a good video Leanne I would love to see lots more of these please ❤ It amazing when you put your mind to it what you can make and good home cooked meals. I love your hair colour really suits you xx
All looks ok, but my husband expects meat every day so if we had egg and chips it would have to have gammon with it and it’s a lot of rice for one week! But great for what you paid but small portions too. I would definitely do a few of them. 😊
Thank you. That was a great video. A whole chicken is wonderful for making a more than one meal. With the ingredients you had, you could also have made chicken salad and had that as a baked potato topping or used the chilli as another topping. Small potatoes work well baked as you need far less energy to cook them. Just have two little ones instead of one big one!!
@@dandare2586 Thanks so much! Yes, the whole chicken was fantastic! We had loads of leftovers for the weekend that I got creative with, sadly ran out of time to film it all! But definitely gonna challenge myself more regularly & it was fun! I hope you had a fantastic weekend x
@leannejayne3545 I had a lovely weekend, thank you. I hope you did, too, and you have a lovely week ahead. I think your channel is much needed as so many are about excess these days, and it is so easy told pulled into the "must have" mindset. I think by having less, you can end up with so much more. I think you are sharing this. Thank you again.
First time Ive come across your videos. Im currently using Thrifty Lesley's meal planners (she has her own website and group on FB) The thing we struggle with as a family (all adults now) is getting things within budget, and that we all eat. I hate waste, especially when budgets are tight.
Welcome to the channel! I’ll definitely check out Thrifty Lesley; thank you for the recommendation! Sticking to a budget can be challenging. We have a fairly strict budget for food and a separate account/debit card specifically for groceries. Currently, we have it set at £450 per month to feed 3 adults, 1 child, and a cat, which also includes most of our toiletries and household supplies. For meals, we maintain a list of our favorite dishes and rotate through them. However, we're a bit more relaxed about it on weekends. Xx
Gosh we are a family of three i couldn't feed us lunches and dinners for a whole week, hats off to you, you have an awful lot of things to make with eggs i couldnt make 6 eggs go that far x our weekly budget is £70 and thats tight with breakfast lunch and dinner x well done you x
Thank you! I do enjoy a challenge. I used three eggs for the egg and chips since there were three of us. My youngest daughter didn’t join us for the meal because she has hot meals at school and sometimes just has a sandwich for her tea. I used two eggs for the egg mayo and just one for the egg fried rice. Xx
It is definitely more expensive but you did really well Leanne. Fab recipes too, it's amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it, I love egg and chips, guess what we are having for tea.
@@roslinney4285 Oh yum! We love egg & chips, have you seen Shirley Valentine? That film always makes me crave chips & egg 😂 Thanks for your comment Ros, I always appreciate it xx
Great, I'd eat all of it! If I do egg and chips, I make spaces among the chips and break the eggs in, then back in the oven for 4 or 5 minutes. They come out perfectly, have you tried it?
I love your new hair colour ✨💛✨ I have mine highlighted blonde and it costs a fortune and is probably a bit too blonde 😬 Would love to know what you did differently or what colour. It’s lovely and natural looking.
Thank you so much! I'm really pleased with it. I'm not sure what she used, but it was 3-4 different colours, highlights, and then painted the rest in 2 different shades of light brown and ash blonde. Xx

Your hair looks lovely. I’ve been thinking I should switch to one solid colour rather than going in for colour and highlights. It’s so expensive where I am in Canada .
0:03 Where you think this is "really really fun", for some families this is the harsh reality, forever on repeat, that they live in. Still a good challenge though. Just the 'for fun' part makes it hurt.
I'm sorry if my words upset you. I completely understand that there are people facing much tougher situations, perhaps I was a bit clumsy with my words for which I apologise x
That was amazing Leanne. Could've believe you did it. Unfortunately my husband doesnt like eggs but I do which is shame as eggs are great for budget meals. Your fried rice looked lovely.
