They are from Germany and Tobias has a side project called avantasia. Tobias is the founder of both bands and both are epic.

Agree, early Edguy > Avantasia > late Edguy, Mandrake is by far their best work and a masterpiece of an album

Now that you've done Edguy you need to do Avantasia, Tobias other project. Every album is a concept album.

Edguy is a german metal band. Their singer and founder Tobias Sammet is heavy influenced by Michael Kiske. In fact, he stated once that he wantet to be a singer after having heard Kiske on the "Keeper of the seven keys" records by Helloween. He startet another, very successful musical project called "Avantasia" wich was designed to be a "metal opera" there a plenty of great songs in there, with a lot of very famous musicians. Definitely worth a listen.

A whole lot of Dickinson in this song.

Tobias is from Germany. He sings like Bruce Dickinson meets Geoff Tate. The music is somewhat reminiscent of Maiden as well. Tobias specializes in the power anthem chorus.

Edguy is one of my favorite bands and the Pharao is actually my favorite song. I've seen them at Wacken open Air 2012 for the first time. Tobias is a very funny guy. It's always fun to see them live!

Great reaction to a band I especially love to hear while exercising or running.
One of my favorites of them is "the asylum".

The vocals sound German to me like the Scorpions. Solid modern metal.

His other band, Avantasisa are just just as good, as others have said. 'The Scarecrow" by them is a great place to start.
This whole album is worth a listen so maybe make your way through the tracklist if you want to hear more? It's a very solid album, and this is the longest song, so don't worry about that. My other favourite from this album is 'Wash Away The Poison' - a ballad, one of my favourites ever.
I agree it didn't need to be quite as long as it was, but I think they just wanted to show off a bit with those two solos! 😆 And they are nice solos tbf. I would call them a Power Metal band, and as for the lyrics, I'm pretty sure like most Power Metal, they are fantasy based and/or empowering. I actually haven't paid a whole lot of attention to dissecting them. I just get swept along by the uplifting vibe instead.
What I love about these guys is that they really know how to construct a song. It's almost flawless.
They put a lot of thought into their songs.
    Btw only 7 out of 10 - SACRILEGE!!!! 🤨😂

Tobias Sammett, the singer you hear, has another project called Avantasia. Same concept as Ayreon. Tobias also sings on the latest album of Ayreon. You can call both bands metal opera/ symphonic metal.
    Great albums:
    The mystery of time
    The Scarecrow
    The wicked symphony
    Angel of Babylon
    Ghostlights

I haven't heard this band before, but they remind me a bit of Dio. In fact the lead singer sounds a little like Ronnie James Dio to me. Overall a clean and sharp group with nice backing vocals and plenty of guitar. Good reaction Tommy.

This whole album (Mandrake) is solid, you should think about checking it out Paul!
Hope you're well, haven't seen much of you lately :)

@@loud6037 Still kicking Lou. I am involved in supervising industrial security by profession and our strange and violent times are a little too good for business as you might imagine. Makes it hard to find time for social media. But I have tried to watch Tommy's channel at a minimum. He and his merry band keep me coming back to check out what is, sometimes, obscure music to me.
If you recommend that I explore "Mandrake" further, I shall have to find time for it. Your keen aesthetic sense has never steered me wrong before.
In these troubled times, I leave you with the words of Inquisitor Torquemada, "Be pure, be vigilant, behave!" (roughly translated). LOL
