Before you start removing the tranny pan to get to the solenoid , there is a 16 pin ( 16 ,if my memory serves me right) connector on the top of the transmission in the engine compartment. Remove the connector and check for corrosion there. I'm at 12 mins into this video when I made this comment. Corrosion here can also cause hard shifts and for folks with this corrosion issue a new wire assembly is available from the dealer. To install this wire will require dropping the transmission pan. Excellent video !!! Please follow up with what your friend found out to add closure to this problem. Thank you.

Wonderfull diagnosis, like how you zero in on the fault step by step.
In the test drive the gears changed perfectly and the solenoid and wiring is fine, so why not let the customer drive the car for a few days, or your friend keep it for those days just to make sure the fault does not come back. Because it looks more likely a stuck spool valve, due most likely to a tiny bit of dirt, and given the milage of the car and unknown info about the servicing of the transmission.🐞

So wait, the other shop didn’t have a scanner? They probably didn’t have time to mess with it is my guess. At any rate, replace all the solenoids and it should be good. Also a lot of people never service their tranny so maybe that contributed to this problem occurring.
Great stuff once again brother! Love this channel!

You need to do a 2 trip drive cycle for the fault to reoccur (maybe it would), and that includes speed, temperature, and gear settings. Freeze frame data is critical in any repair.

Man, I loved honda cars, all tranmission solenoids are outside at the transmission case and are accessible and easy to replace, unlike toyota cars, they are inside the transmission, and replacing a solenoid meaning better replace the whole tranmission or at least rebuild the old one, because, both require transmission removal and opening.
