Great race again James. I made the same tactical error mentioned above by others. Was too far back at the start of the sprint and couldn’t make up the places. I need to start further forward to stand a chance as my sprint is rubbish. Btw we finished dead on the same time lol. Good luck reaching the 1000 mark. Well deserved and a great channel.
@paulmccafferty4850 almost there! 970 😂 but I'm not even sure it's worth it to monetize the channel. I don't even know everything that goes into it lol. If it means a lot of ads for viewers and pennies in my pocket, I may not even monetize... 🤷 Anyhow, that was you that I tied? HNY to you and your family, James! Erm, if the basement was too cold then may I suggest you weren't pedalling hard enough 😂😂😂 Nice sprint; you stuck with it, and there was nothing between you 4. Great ride and a good timed sprint. Flat was indeed very fast! Rode it myself on NY day in the A cat and my ride was only 1 minute faster. I think you are getting ready to test deeper waters and compete in a higher category 💪👍

@@RyanCondon haha thanks Ryan! I appreciate your sub and your videos also. I'm looking forward to seeing how these new race category ranges go for everyone too.
great race! i believe in a flat race, you need to be closer to the front as it is a larger pack and everyone has their powder waiting on the sprint--with your power, you should have won this race...just need to go a bit earlier; be in the very front at 0.3km which means start pushing at 0.6km...I remain a super fan--right from the very beginning-absolutely love your commentary!!
@@daletocemd4781 thanks! I was just thinking that with where I was in the pack, I should have started sprinting earlier at 0.4-0.5km or so. I am going to try a longer range sprint the next time I do a flat course and see how it goes! I think the momentum factor will be a benefit. I'm not too bad at 20+ second sprints too, I think... Haha. I appreciate your support and insight 👍
Hi James, I enjoy your editing format and love the commentary but think if you are going to sit in and hope for a field sprint you will end up like Erik Lee and only being there to compete for the minor placings, particularly when you start riding in higher grade races. If you look at Zwifty Zwifter he doesn't have the greatest sprint either but when fit has an amazing three minute effort and has won a truck load of races playing to his strength. Look forward to seeing you progress.
@@ianglover2852 thanks for the honest input! I appreciate that. Solid race and great sprint at the end! What are your thoughts on your positioning in the last 500m? I think you might have done a little better had you been near the front of that pack instead of the back?? Hard to say of course, but since the drafting effect isn’t super realistic being just behind the front few riders is going to be just about as good as the back of the pack, but with less distance to need to close down - thoughts?
@@PedalToProgress yeah, you may be right. I think it'll either be 1) be closer to the front in like 5-7th wheel and then kick the sprint when they kick or around 250-300m to go or 2) which is what I should have done in this race, be in that same position behind the glob of riders and kick a little earlier at like 400m to go and use momentum to your advantage. The guy who won this race was right behind me on the left. You'll see he kicks slightly before I do and that was part of the difference. He did have a little more power than me too though. But yeah, first and third in this race came from the back and started sprinting from 300-350m out. I think if you can hold a sprint for 400m in this race, that might be even better. Next very flat course I'm gonna try to sprint from 400+ m out as an experiment 😂
If you keep doing sprint races, you'll soon be in the low-mid 500s (look at the scores of the other finishers around you). And positioning seemed pretty good, confirmed by the 15-second power of the finishers around you, which was equal to or better than yours.
BTW, I meant to ask: do you practice lower cadence work? You (and I) are both spinners--but you are even faster than most--seem to average ~110ish, and there is a benefit going much lower. It is individual, but you can prove it to yourself by doing high vs low cadence intervals and see your HR /breathing rate and how you feel. Once real race season starts, it'll be fun to see your videos outside!! You are cat 3 right? I'm going to go watch that B race that you won now....ride on.
@@daletocemd4781 I don't practice much low cadence work but I probably should, just to increase my comfort level at a wider range. I am a cat 3 yup!
