She makes it look so easy!
My rabbit won't even let me hold his paw lol! 😂 Even though he is gorgeous and cuddly, as soon as I go to cut his nails it's like he's had a brain transplant! 😂
@@gabrielleoverton lol same with my other bunny. One of them is so calm but the other can't stand it!
I know right! My bunnies freak out and try to jump away
My rabbits are great with me if u just do it the same what she did it it easy LOL
@@gabrielleoverton How do u cut his nails when he doesn’t let you?. My bunny’s nails are so long and I have no idea how to cut her nails.
This is a bunny chore I absolutely hate! One extra tip for fluffier buns: get a spray bottle with water and spray the bunny's foot fur around the tips, the fur will clump together a bit and will help to see the nails better. That phone flashlight idea is so neat, I'll try it next time! 💗
I agree! I hate doing it and I always feel bad when I have to do it to my bunnies! Yes that’s a very good tip! I’ve wet down the bunnies fur a bit when I’m struggling to see sometimes.
What do you do if your rabbit has really long fur???
Thanks for the tip! I'm always worried that I'm going to hurt her by clipping her fur or cutting her nail to close.
Omg thank you so much I’m trying this!!
Thanks for the tip. My bunny is a lion head so this will make it alot easier.
I would add: treats afterwards!
I find that for rabbits who don't like to be held/manipulated, you have to be patient, spend a minute or two each day putting them on that towel/table setup, petting them as you press them a bit against you so they feel safe then give them a treat before putting them back down, and just do that regularly, so as to desensitize them to manipulation. It can be reaaaaally helpful in the future if you have to force-feed them (food and/or medicine) and it avoids them associating being picked up with bad experiences only.
Honestly I can't even manage to pick up my bunny to attempt this without a fight that stresses both her and me out. She actually grunts at me more often than not when I go to pick her up. She is still a baby, under a year old, but it's still hard to work out what to do so she hopefully doesn't get too stressed.
Did you ever manage to get your bunny's nails clipped? Mine is almost 5 months old and I can absolutely relate to you. My bunny hates getting picked up, and I want to know if it gets easier as they grow older.
@@shmito_123 Ummm well honestly? Not for me. She still hates being picked up, I just have to muscle through it because long nails aren't good for them. So we both get stressed and frustrated and then she gets treats and I get to treat my scratches lol.
@@perfectstorm333 Oh man that's not too reassuring hahaha, I guess we'll just have to play with the hand that we're dealt. Thanks for the response though!
@@shmito_123 Well to be honest with you, I adore her to pieces, but my bunny is a bit of an asshole. She thumps about everything, grunts at me for even daring to look in her direction when she doesn't want me to, and foot flicks me all the time for cleaning her pen. So mine has a tude. Yours might be calmer and sweeter than mine.
For me, it is helpful to just pick her up every day for like 10 seconds. My bunny is a lot nicer since I used that method.
using the light is a very good idea
I did this for the first time and rabbit was totally fine with it! I was more scared than he was! He just sat there and let it happen. Now he’s trying to get used to short nails 😂
my hand was shaking trimming my bunny’s nails and he was totally calm 😭
@@onograce1327 you two are lucky, I have like 8 scratches on my hand from trying lol
Great video. Content matches the title. No added nonsense. Straight to the point, no fluffy the dog interruptions. Thank you.
Omg. I am so happy to have found this video! I rescued my bunny and her nails are extremely long and she was abused so she does not like to be picked up or held...and her nails are jet black! So cutting them has been a source of stress for her and me! But there are great tips in this video that I haven't tried. Thank you so much!
you are a life saver. thank you. I tried this tonight and both my bunnies were scared (I've been dreading it & even had a dream about it last night) but the best tip is to also take breaks between cutting nails to calm them down if they're fidgeting. when they're still, get ready to cut quickly. talk in soothing tones throughout so they know they're safe and HOLD TIGHT SO THEY DON'T FALL.
This is soooo helpful!! I get super tense and scared whenever I need to clip my bunny’s nails. So hopefully this will help!!
This video and the comments gave me the courage to clip my bun bun's nails after 4 months. In the past she has pulled away, nipped and then whined even and it made me nervous... her nails were so long and I knew that wasn't good for her. I took my time and decided to ignore her fighting, spoke soothingly and held her firmly and she submitted. and then I gave her some raisins and now she's happy! thank you!
I can't even pick my rabbit up without her freaking out on me. I've gotten a few clips here and there and brushing is a hassle too. She's a netherland dwarf female... Any tips for rabbits that won't let you pick them up?
Oh my, I'm here also looking for an answer. I have two baby dwarfs and they are mental. Don't know if that will change when they get older, but it is such a tragedy to clip their nails
Meghan Dietz Idk but my rabbit is the same (she’s the same breed too) and she has very long nails now so like yea🙄
Bored. Hi, I have the same type of rabbits. These rabbits are not the ones that like to be held the most. But take a lot of time with her. I pass at least 2 hours per day with her and now she let me hold her without a problem
Audrey Pinto Thanks!
Same problem here with my fuzzy lol I think I’m just going to take her to a rabbit rescue or a vet to do it for me a couple times a year. My local FFA group does it too but my girl is too much for them to handle
Thank you for this. Maybe I'm a wuss, but I was honestly really scared. My vet usually does it but we're in quarantine. Had to wrap her up in a towel though. Not sure who is more traumatized from the whole ordeal, her or me lmao. But we made up really quickly and are now cuddling! Question: Will she ever stop acting like I'm about to slaughter her and her entire family whenever I try to pick her up? She will get used to it, right? Jealous of all these people I see holding their buns!
You posted this a while ago, but this may be a silly question. How did you wrap up your bun?I'm scared I'm going to break my buns legs or something else
@@karleyj.8110 I don't know but in victoria Raechels new year same pets video where she is holding a bunny she wraps her bunny cleo in a towel, idk if that helps
@@karleyj.8110 look up the bunrito method lol bunny burrito, you just set them on a towel and wrap the towel around their body with their paws exposed. it calms down a restless bunny (mine) and makes it way easier to get the job done.
LMAOAOAOA😭😭😭😭😭
My rabbits don't like being picked up. I clip my Guinea pigs nails my self and I wish I could do my rabbits as well. You inspired me to increase my rabbits veggies and reduce their nuggets.
Bunnies are very squirmy and tend to be hard to pick up. That is why I prefer to put them onto a solid surface to clip their nails so that they don't squirm as much. But you have to catch and pick up your bunny first which sometimes can be a challenge haha! Sterling and Ebony sometimes take a bit to catch them.
Thank you for the video. To those who have difficulty with their rabbit trying to run away whilst cutting. I wrap my rabbit in a thin baby blanket with just her feet exposed when cutting her nails, and I give a little treat to eat as well while I'm busy cutting. It just makes it so much easier for me to handle her. She doesn't try to escape so much this way. I get nervous when cutting though because I'm scared to hurt her while cutting.
I have a baby bunny and she won’t stop wriggling haha 😂 ❤️
The phone flashlight idea is genius 💡 🧠
Very good video. I remember being absolutely terrified of cutting my rabbits' nails (I was shaking the whole way through because they were super fussy about being even held at all) but with practice and always doing the 1-2-3 test squeezing I can now cut the nails with confidence. It's not fun and my rabbits keep kicking their legs at me after it, but it's really rewarding when you learn to do it right.
Thanks for all the tips. I watched your video yesterday as a job I knew I needed to do with our rabbit. Rewatched this morning set up area. Then, nail trim was successfully completed this morning. 🙌
Using the cellphone flashlight is ingenious! You make it look super easy. I still lack confidence in this area. My Henny hates being nail clipped so I just take her to my local Vet to get it done. I just don’t like the price $30 per nail clipping 😢.
Fur Balls I understand and have the same problem. I always seem to cut the quick. 😋
Cinnamon The Bun Ouch! Yes that hurts. Poor Winston.
Ask your vet if you can participate so you can gain confidence! When I worked in a vet clinic we would teach any pet parent that was willing to learn
Fur Balls I can do my guinea pigs nails but I have never tried doing my bunnies nails 1. because i haven't needed to as I only got one a few weeks ago and 1 a few days ago 2. Because they never keep still so it's gonna be really hard
Kinsey Barry it’s not that I don’t know how to clip the nail... it’s more like she’s uncooperative when at home. She jumps & runs. She’s more calm at the vet cause she’s mobilized by fear hehe. I was able to do her fronts last night but getting her feet... oh boy.
Those bunnies are so cute
I actually forgot to watch the tips. The entire video I WATCHED THE CUTEE RABBIT. :-)
My mom and I used this video to help trim my little Wednesday's talons!! Very helpful! Thank you for this video!
Thank you so much for this video. We've tried the bun burrito, Positioning them in my arm, & having one person hold and another clip. All were very stressfull on my bunnies. Just got done trying it this way and its a life saver. One of my bunnies did a binky as soon as I put her back in the room. ❤🐰🐰
Oh my goodness! The phone flashlight thing is genius! I'll definitely be doing that!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I got my bun in September 2020 and have really struggled with this. Last time he had it done at the vet’s, but before that it took three of us: one to hold, one to comfort/pet, and one to trim the nails. It worked but it’s not very practical. I tried your method this morning and it went much more smoothly! The back feet was challenging, but with patience it was doable. I think this was less stressful for him too; he doesn’t seem to be mad at me 🥰
My bunny is a sweet boy and accepted the nail cutting with some blueberries! He kept running away after every paw until I gave him a blueberry and he came right back! A good tip I use is to have them in a sitting position with their bottom legs pointing outwards on your lap, so they cannot kick at your legs. My bunny doesn’t have an issue being held, and although he was definitely uncomfortable the experience was over and he was showered with more blueberries for his good behavior.
It will be my first time clipping my bunnies nails, and they squirm even if I just pet them. What should I do to make them calmer when I cut their nails?? Even if I put them on a high flat surface? I’m scared they will still jump off and hurt themselves.
Nerdy Domo maybe it depends on how long you have had the bunny for and they are not that comfortable with you yet
Mimi_Cookie 1 thank u I actually already clipped my bunnies nails and it was not that bad
Nerdy Domo oh ok great and your welcome :)
i’m too scared to do this
You are bad ass! This is exactly how I look when I cut my cats nails... your doing it with BUNNYS! Wow.
This was incredibly helpful because I'm starting to do my rabbits nails myself and I didn't know where to start thank you so much for sharing this!
THANK YOU!! Because of your video I'm able to keep my rabbit, a MILLION thanks!!!!
GREAT video!! This is so stressful, but the video and flashlight idea is great.
thank you so much! my daughter left for college and now i need to do this and your video helped me!
now getting your rabbit to hold still is the real challenge lol
Me: *trying to trim my rabbits nails*
My rabbit: SEE YA!
My rabbit doesn't like to be held too long let alone be able to sit still.. she's like 3months old and already a big gal.. i gotta sort this rabbit keeping game out! 🤷🏽♂️ Great vid by the way. Glad i found this channel. 😊
Very helpful video 😁
Great tip on shining them underneath showing the safe part to clip
I just cut my bunnys nails, it was kinda easy he even put his paw to me so heartfull
I feel like there are so many different things being taught than when I was young. Twenty years ago I swear I was taught to flip them over to trim and had no idea the trance was dangerous.
Thank you so much!! I’ve been so nervous to cut mines for the first time and just couldn’t find a good way to do it. This way makes it so smooth!!
At the end while you gave them all a treat, they look like what happens at those zoos that out corn for 25 cents, for the goats. It’s freakin adorable
You have such patient buns! My boi Cloud absolutely hates getting his nails cut, and will fight tooth and nail to get out of having them trimmed. I have to do it though, or else my skin gets shredded every time he decides to climb onto me with his talons. Just a little while ago, he drew blood when trying to jump from my leg to his enclosure. He doesn’t even do it to be malicious, he’s just so young and rambunctious that he doesn’t know how rough he can be. Still love him though, he gives me kisses on my chin when he wants to be sweet.
Great advice on the double squeeze technique!
I got a pet trimmer with a built in LED but I’m still so nervous. This is helping build my courage
I leave this up to my vet for $20 every few months. My mini rex doesn't like to be held so I leave it up the experts. I just bonded him with a Netherland Dwarf/Dutch mix, so maybe I'll try these tips with her, thank you!!
Yes most bunnies hate to be held. That is why I chose to cut my bunnies nails while they are standing on a surface. This helps them squirm way less!
Wow! thank you so much for making this video. I've learned so much! Thank you!!!!
I greatly appreciate this video! I’ve just clipped my bunny nails, she is so happy!!
Nervous but it has to be done. Not many bunny savvy places here in Florida. This video really helps my confidence on doing this for my baby girl.
This video helped me clip my rabbit’s nails for the first time last night they were soooo long and i had never clipped nails before but i managed to do it and i was more scared than my rabbit was lol she was so calm and now she moving around a lot more since she has shorter nails
Thanks for the thorough walkthrough!
I’ll have to start using a light! What a great idea.
Just tried this out and it worked ! Thank you so much!
When I clip my bunnies nails I cut the hair around the nails it makes easier to see the nails. Good job!
I managed this better today ! Yay Binky was so good. Vets always done it but since lock down in doing. When I need advice I always come back here. Hope your port is good. I got my Hickman
You make it look so easy! My bun squirms no matter what I do. He won’t sit still long enough and I’m always scared he’ll jump off the table. I’ll give it another shot. Thanks
i just cut my rabbits nails for the first time and it was a lot easier then i thought it was going to be!!
thank you so much for this video, it really helped me so much! i have a black dwarf netherland so it’s so hard to find the safe spot to trim, i usually just trim his nails just so he’s comfy until the next vet appointment so they can do a way better job. i’m trying to get better at trimming his nails so he’s no so uncomfy. Me and Ollie thank you so much!!!
I'm glad to see you made an updated version of this!!!
Thanks for the tips.
I just clipped my rabbits nails for the first time and she was amazing I am kinda struggling with the right one she keeps moving her head around but I am giving her a break and I also gave her a treat for being so good
She’s really good 👍
Only one dislike, wow she is good at making videos😇😇
So Helpful Thx!!!
I’m doing it for the first time rn I’m scared I love him so much he my baby 😩
thank you so much! So helpful, I am glad I found your channel before getting my first bun!
I pay my vet every two weeks. 15.00 to trim them
moji Patterson wow that’s a bargain my Vet charges me $30 so I take her every 6mo. Thankfully my buns nails never gets too long.
Fur Balls at first I was getting it for free because they never had someone request it before but now they say 15.00
$15?? Dang. I work at a pet store and we do it for $4

My bunny kicks and twists when i try to clip his nails......
He never does it otherwise only when I’m holding the clipper in my hand...
Ive heard that putting a soft cloth over their face helps calm them down. You might wanna look it up though
@@Caleechula ooh sounds like useful advice! I'll try it out.. thank you
You have a nice bun
My Noah will try and kick you 😂😂
We end up fighting
I just got two bunnies and I like your channel... It is very helpful! Thanks!
Every time I try the putting hand under him and he starts to kick with his back foot please help
Same
I clip my cats claws and my bunny that’s passed vertically. I feel it’s more comfortable for them. Especially for cats as their claws are even more flat than a rabbits.
THANK YOU. My rabbit is so stubborn and frisky if you hold him the wrong way and I’m worried I would hurt him, but this makes me feel a lot better. Thanks!
I wish it was that easy. Even brushing isn’t easy with my bunnies let alone nails cutting 😂
Thank you
Thank you so much for useful tips. I tried to trim my rabbits nails today and it was successful :D had to fight with them a bit tho but it all ok
I just rescued a rabbit that used to be abused and her nails are extremely long and has never been cut before (she is a year old) so I need to cut it sometime, but she is so afraid of human hands (she can be pet, but you can't reach out to her, or reach out to her things) or else she would lunge and bite you. So I may save this for when she learns to trust me more, this is only my 3rd day having her.
He doesn’t even like me touching his front paws haha😂😅😭
Thank you , I have two bunnies 🐰 they also need a nail cut. But I have a rabbit nailcutter at home.
great video! can u make a video on how you make cage liners and snug a bun beds also can u make a cage cleaning video too! love your videos
You’ve done it very well🧡

Have the same posocket and thx ive been trying to find a vet but the only one is 5hours away that attens bunnies so thx now i can do this
Very informative, TY. But I sure wish there was a rabbit-like catnip they could have to make this easier!
Thankyou, I will be using very soon.
Thank you so much this video helped me I have a rabbit and I need his nails clipped and I was so scared to do it myself ☺😌💕
istg my bunny won't stay still for me to do this.
Great tips! My rabbit doesn't let me cut his nails, his very young, less than an year, and I barely cut his nails once! He usually jumps of high places, I think out of fear, for not knowing where he is, so I always try to cut them on the ground, but also unsuccessful. But I'll keep trying! Hopefully he will get used to it!
I didn't know bunnies weret allowed to go in trance good information thank you
❤️❤️
This so helpful
Great video, thanks for this!
Very good video. Thanks!
i just did this to my rabbit and he just sat there and let it happen o.O i suddenly feel so lucky today lol
Now all I need to do is let my rabbit pick it up onto a taller surface 😂
Thanks! This helped a lot!
