Seems to be a knife made by J Marttiini. If you would look enough you probably could find the exact model/version using visual clues like the fuller (groove) and color of the handle.
Both gloves are presumably to protect his hands… The yard glove to protect against the knife/wood and to help his thumb as he presses against the back of the blade, and the latex glove might help to protect from splinters as well as increase his grip on the blade handle. Those are all just assumptions though, your guess is as good as mine.
