The fact that Messi had a goal contribution almost every 45 minutes tells you enough that may have been the greatest individual season of all time. Especially in the contemporary era. Imagine being almost guaranteed two goals a game as long as Messi was playing. Whether if it came from Messi or Messi ended up assisting the goal.

Another fact that most have forgotten was Barca were in the middle of transition from Pep to Tito who could not even sit on the bench for whole season as he was suffering cancer i believe and Jordi Roura took over temporarily in his absence. And it would have been recognized as the best year for Messi himself, even better than 2015

Credit to Barca though; Messi had a whole team of guys like him with big football brains, as shown by Spain's success in those years. Until about 2017 or 18, Messi NEVER had to play on his own, no more than CR7 did. They were surrounded by world class passers and playmakers for most of their careers. Messi had Iniesta, Xavi and Sergio. CR7 had Benz, Kroos and Modric.
