As someone who used to struggle with homosexuality, the reason I became Catholic last spring is because of its clear teachings on the matter! I realized that Jesus and my salvation was way more important than the desires of my flesh. So I picked up my cross and I’m following Jesus! You CANNOT love God and at the same time demand for your sin to be blessed!! Those people who want their homosexual relationships blessed do NOT love God. I know this because I personally lived through it. When you truly love God, you will SACRIFICE your personal desires with joy! And don’t kid yourselves, even if nobody told you that it’s a sin, the Holy Spirit will always reveal that it is!! Gay sex is a grave sin! Period! So to give that up for God is an incredible opportunity to become a Saint! It’s the best gift we can give to Him. So again, we carry our cross and we follow Christ! So yes, like others, I am also a little disappointed that the pope was not very clear on these blessings. He MUST be clear! It seems like the pope is trying to please the world and that is a grave mistake. The Church is not of this world and never will be and therefore has to be clear on things like grave sins! And gay people need to know the reality of what salvation is, what it means and that it’s not a joke!

Listening to this conversation really illustrates what Fulton Sheen meant by "The Church will be saved by the laity" My heart really goes out to this Priest. I will be dedicating a decade of a Rosary for him and all Priests who are in need of friends like these who can speak the truth without ambiguity, and who can help Priests to have more courage in the face of this great confusion within the Church . These Priests need our prayers!!! Please like if you will be joining me. God Bless.

Fulton Sheen was a bishop when psychologists used ice picks to lobotomize gay men. He had to have known of this and yet he said nothing. I'm glad you find him such a great bishop, but I hope you understand that unlike you, I do know think that giving lobodomies with ice picks to "end" homosexuality in many of the 50 states during his reign as bishop is at all helpful.

I must add that excluding LGBT's from the Catholic Church is NOT saving it. I must disagree with you. Heterosexuals can have their synods in which they invite not ONE LGBT and talk ABOUT them behind their back, but straight people talking evil about LGBT's is not "saving" the church. Two straight man and a priest can discuss until they are blue in the face about how evil homosexuals are is not going to save the church. In fact, it is lack of discussion and only enrages. I'm sorry, but I don't think the church's present hatred and the hatred they have extended to LGBT's for the past two thousand years is going to end well. I think you may be misunderstanding the silence of LGBT's. I don't look forward to what is coming. I"m glad you see it as something positive, but what I hear spoken about Catholics and be coming is not something I look forward to at all. But, alas, talking about people behind their back, attacking them for 2000 years, criticizing them mercilessly is not how you "save" the church. But alas, Mary's immaculate heart will reign in the end. But until that time arrives...well...we'll see.

Because the pope has been declared infallible no one can reprove him and there is no recourse to the bible because "The Church" defines "Traditon" - which the rcc has made the guiding light instead of the bible. Sola scriptura has been discarded in favor of what "The Church" says. "The Church" is the Vatican, and the vatican adheres to what the pope decrees with the blessing of all is leftist appointees. The rcc is going the way of Sodom - there's no stopping it.

This made so much sense. There are several same sex unions in our family. I totally agree that they need pastoral care and love, just as our family does give them love, counsel and inclusion. The reality as far as doctrine, is that, as much as they want a “marriage” or a blessing, the church cannot do either. It is not because we don’t have empathy, it is because we cannot lead a soul to sin. God bless you! I love the show.

How does Paul set homosexuals free? How does the Catholic Church attempt to?
Acts 17 tells us how to test what we hear by being a good Berean.
We have the clear example of sinners including sexual immoral being set free in 1 Cor 6:9-11.
Now we compare how Paul did the Catholic Church.
RCC: pray the rosary, go to confession, receive a blessing from a priest. (All unbiblical ways to get saved n receive power for repentance).
Paul: said he came only to preach the cross, the power of salvation. 1 Cor 1:17, Rom 1:16-17.
Without the preaching of the cross their is no salvation and repentance. Hence: Paul preached the cross because it provides our every spiritual need through it!!
If you’re catholic you should consider the obvious.

Hey Fr. Pagano, fellow Jax resident here. I have struggled with SSA most of my adult life. Ever since joining the Catholic church through RCIA, and cooperating with the Holy Spirit to find reverent, devout (and often traditional) Catholic church communities, I have actually felt differently and have experienced conversion, and have even had relationships with women now. I am inspired by the men I've met at my current parish, many of whom are my age (still fairly young) with 4, 5 or more children already, living faith-centered lives according to the Catholic faith.
What's upsetting me as someone who wants to live a faithful devout life according to the doctrines of our Catholic faith is this confusion coming from Rome. It's too much of a contrast to see the devout Catholic community and what they're about and how they live their lives, and this modernist lukewarm Catholic faith promoted by Rome that often seems to contradict what the church has taught for millennia, and what is clearly written in scripture.
Not every SSA person is going to want to convert. Not every fornicator is going to want to stop. Some men will always lie. Unfortunately there are those who don't want to accept the Church's or Jesus's teachings.
Now I agree there's a way to be pastoral and truly caring while still firmly holding to what is True. This ambiguity is a real problem and if I weren't where I'm at in my progress, it might have even destroyed me if this happened earlier during my faith journey.
How do you answer that? What if I took these signals from Rome to mean I wouldn't be able to live chastely or maybe even have a wife, and I just give up and be a lukewarm non-practicing Catholic? By the Church's own teachings I'd be heaping judgment on myself taking communion in grave sin and I'd be doomed to perdition at death!
This is a life and death matter and the faithful and those who want to adhere to the faith need more pastoral care than what we're getting.

@@Bayouboynkansas prayers for you brother and thanks for sharing. The Church is now pretending people like us don't even exist within it. Those who don't want to be called to holiness are getting attention from the Church, and those who are putting in a lot of work to adhere to the faith and Church teaching, and probably likewise faithfully and frequently receiving the Sacraments and tithing and contributing to the church life in some way, get ignored from Rome and by progressive priests and bishops. I can't verify the source, but I think it was Lutheran pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer who said, "It is not a mercy to confirm someone in sin." This is wisdom. Opening the door to "blessing" same-sex marriage can. not. be. an act of pastoral mercy. (And Scheele is right on target.)

      Is praying the rosary scriptural?
Praying the rosary is promoted within the Catholic Church as a means of strengthening one’s faith, resisting evil, growing spiritually, and generally benefiting society. While some of the prayer of the rosary is scriptural, the whole second half of the “Hail Mary” and portions of the “Hail, Holy Queen” are blatantly unbiblical. While the first part of the Hail Mary is almost a direct quotation from Luke 1:28, there is no scriptural basis for (1) praying to Mary, (2) addressing her as “holy,” or (3) calling her “our life” and “our hope.”
Praying the rosary involves giving attributes to Mary that the Bible never gives her. To call Mary “holy”-the Catholic Church teaches that Mary never sinned or had any taint of original sin-is not biblical. The Bible calls all believers “saints,” which can be interpreted as “holy ones,” but Scripture says that the righteousness believers have is the imputed righteousness from Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21). In this life, no one is yet sanctified from sin in practice (1 John 1:9-2:1). Jesus is called our Savior repeatedly in Scripture because He saved us from our sin. In Luke 1:47, Mary calls God her “Savior.” Savior from what? A sinless person does not need a Savior. Sinners need a Savior. Mary acknowledged that God was her Savior. Therefore, Mary acknowledged that she was a sinner.
Jesus came to save us from our sins (Matthew 1:21). The Roman Catholic Church claims that Mary was saved from sin differently from everyone else-that she was saved from sin through the immaculate conception (her being conceived free of sin). But is this teaching scriptural? The Roman Catholic Church openly admits that this doctrine is not found in Scripture. When a young man addressed Jesus as “good Master” (Matthew 19:16-17), Jesus asked why he called Him “good” since there is none good but one, God. Jesus was trying to make the young man aware that he was using the term good too loosely. In praying the rosary, Catholics use the term holy too loosely. No one, including Mary, is holy but God. This ties in with Romans 3:10-23, Romans 5:12, and countless other passages that stress the fact that in God’s eyes no one measures up. Never is Mary excluded from such all-encompassing statements.
But praying the rosary has an even more basic problem, namely, that much of the prayer is directed to Mary, not to God. We are never told in the Bible whether anyone else in heaven can even hear us. God alone is all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-present. When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He taught them to address their prayers to God the Father. Every example of prayer in the Bible is addressed to God alone. There is never a single example of someone praying to any “saint” or angel or anyone else (besides prayers to false gods). Further, any time that a pious person prostrates himself (in a religious setting) to honor someone else besides God (chiefly to the apostles or angels), he is told to get up, to stop it (Acts 10:25-26; 14:13-16; Matthew 4:10; Revelation 19:10; 22:8-9). The Roman Catholic Church states that it worships God alone but “venerates” Mary and the saints. What is the difference? A person praying the rosary spends more time calling out to Mary than to God. For every one praise of God in the rosary, there are ten praises of Mary!
Praying the rosary also assigns a task to Mary that the Bible never assigns her. Jesus is our Redeemer (Galatians 3:13; 4:4-5; Titus 2:14; 1 Peter 1:18-19; Revelation 5:9), our heavenly Advocate (1 John 2:1), and our one and only Mediator (1 Timothy 2:5). The “Hail, Holy Queen” portion of the rosary prayer calls Mary our “most gracious advocate.” This is a direct contradiction of the clear biblical teaching that only Jesus is our go-between.
Praying the rosary requires Catholics to call upon Mary as the “holy Queen.” The only time in Scripture that the title “Queen of Heaven” is found, the term is used in a negative way (Jeremiah 7:17-19; 44:16-27). The Bible never pictures Mary as a queen; rather, she calls herself “the Lord’s servant” (Luke 1:38). She is never given a crown or authority over heaven and earth. Likewise, is it appropriate, while praying the rosary, to call Mary our “life” and “hope”? Again, these are terms that are used of God alone in Scripture (John 1:1-14; Colossians 3:4; 1 Timothy 1:1; Ephesians 2:12; Titus 2:13).
The practice of saying the rosary runs contrary to Scripture in a number of ways. Only God can hear our prayers. Only God can answer our prayers. We have one intermediary (Jesus), and it is in His name we pray, not Mary’s.

@@jonathanharness2962 Holy also means sacred, which means set apart for some divine purpose - which Mary indisputably was.
As Kecharitomene, she has been uniquely created full of divine grace for the purpose of hosting Jesus literally within herself, as a living arc of the New Covenant. Is the original Arc of the Covenant holy or profane?
If that, an inanimate container, is holy, how much more is a person who was made for a sacred responsibility, but also chose out of the free will inanimate objects lack to make a permanent commitment out of it.
Jeremiah refers to Ashera, who is obviously not the rightful queen of anything. Since Jesus is the rightful King of Kings, that makes Mary the rightful queen mother.
Also, Jesus took on the role of the suffering servant. Do you question his kingship? If not, then why question Mary’s position as queen mother? Also, queen mothers of the Davidic line had an active, but subservient role in observing the needs of the kingdom, advising the king, and making sure his will is carried out. Those were all things Mary has done even, for you Sola Scriptura types, in the Bible. And her message consistently remains that we do God’s will.
Speaking of God’s will, if you take any issue with Mary’s title Theotokos, you’re venturing too close to Nestorianism. Jesus, being God the Son and God Incarnate, makes Mary the Mother of God. But Catholics understand she’s not mother of the other two persons of the Trinity.
Also, referring again to the Salve Regina prayer, ever heard of flowery prose? We’re quite known for it. Same with figures of speech that are not meant hyperliterally.
Finally, Catholics do pray directly to God. And we “pray” (archaic for “ask”) that the saints pray for us too. Since they’re living eternally with God, it’s not like we’re engaging in mediumship to summon the dead.
Also, the very word “prayer” and archaic varieties like “prithee” just mean “message,” “request,” or “I ask you.” We do not equate prayer with worship. Prayers we direct to God (which are most of them) certainly must be worshipful. However, prayer is just a part of worship.
Requests that saints pray for us are no more worshipful than you asking someone else to pray for you, regardless of how much flowerier our prose is. Claiming we do indeed worship saints presumes knowledge you can’t possibly have. Not only do you not know what we mean by the word “prayer,” nor do you know how we employ flowery prose and figures of speech, but you cannot know the hearts and minds of Catholics to determine when or to whom actual worship is taking place.
Try attending Mass, which is the greatest of our prayers.
Also, referring to Mary as, “our life, our sweetness and our hope” or “most gracious advocate” does not preclude God from a far greater, more central role in our hearts and minds. “Most gracious” is a superlative, but it doesn’t in this context mean she is supremely gracious. It also doesn’t mean that she is our only advocate or even our primary one. Anyone who says an intercessory prayer for anyone else is advocating for them.
And if I say I have three children who are the apple of my eye, that doesn’t mean my husband is any less than the love of my life.
So we don’t equate prayer, in and of itself, with worship. We don’t equate veneration or honor with worship. And neither should you. Full, authentic worship is so much more. Attend a Mass and you’ll only begin to see God’s central role in our faith as the exclusive recipient of our worship. And Heaven forbid we stop praying for others or asking others to pray for us out of the misguided notion that Jesus, our greatest advocate, is to also be our only intercessor.
Think of this as legal representation. Jesus is not a lone attorney, but chief of counsel, with a legal team of multitudes ready to help on whatever case.

Gnosticism was taught for decades which teaches that the body and its desires are evil. The teachings of this heresy splits the composition of the cosmos into evil and good matter. By teaching this way the culture was able to demonize the human body and it’s desires and daily actions. By infusing these teachings with Marxism the culture was able to erode and confuse human morality and the proper interpretation of the Faith. With the weaponizing of language through Marxism and atheistic philosophy the errors were sexualized leading people to be open to terrible sin. This confusion also led to the mislabeling of every day actions and work as evil as well as the sexualization of everyday material objects assigning evil meaning where none really exists. This includes the mislabeling of certain foods as evil. All this was presented as Christianity but this is not Catholic nor even Christian at all. It is a deception of the devil to make people accept the spirit of the age which was formed out of this heresy and corruption to hurt the Church and destroy souls.

I think the answer is clear: it's a no, but pastorally don't shun them away. Sometimes confused people want to be pushed away to sort of clear themselves from the decision. With compassion, love, patience, etc., they may live in a way back to the original teachings.

I'm German and living in a same sex partnership. We try to live according to the teachings of the church. As you know the times being a faithful Catholic in Germany is a hard one, especially concerning the homosexual theme.
As the first headlines appeared that the pope allowed the blessing of same sex partnerships we were concerned and wanted to prove that information in the original text. We both came to the same conclusion as you guys. Both of us are aware of the fact that we live in a irregular relationship. But in love to our God and the church we decided to give our best to live our lives as regular as possible. We know that it's impossible to reach the highest goal of following Christ as it should be, but we do our best on our way to heaven. Besides the catechism already gives us what to follow and suggest also the way of compassion as written by Pope Francis in this actual letter.
Thank you for your sensitive analysis of this case and the careful remembrance of two sides, the people living this burden and the people who have to deal with their siblings in Christ who have not an easy way up front to follow our Lord and Saviour on their way to heaven. I could feel the love for the neighbour, as we are called to, in your answers and am thankful that I can call you brothers in Christ. This hour gave me hope and strength to carry on. I feel for your situation as you did not choose your sexuality but you must remember that crosses are not usually chosen by the bearer. I will pray for you and your friend.
By the way, I’m a heterosexual male who’s been unsuccessfully engaged twice. The first woman died of drug overdose and the second was an extremely unstable narcissist. I’m tired of being told we are not intellectually capable of understanding right from wrong because of someone who is good at debate can use big words to argue anything they decide is acceptable , any one with a good vocabulary can do this . With God anything is possible including knowing right from wrong because it is written on our hearts . If we as Christians have a majority of people that agree someone is doing something wrong it doesn’t mean we are all stupid and just don’t understand the inner workings of the popes thought process it means he is wrong period!
Saying there is not a simple answer to blessing aka green lighting homosexuality is a cop out smh . And to throw everyone in the category of not being loving and kinda to homosexuals is the most ignorant way to avoid just saying you agree with the pope cause he’s the pope . I love everyone for example and know plenty of people who are gay and don’t ever treat them bad because I want them to know as a a Christian I’m called to live my neighbor but love comes in many forms fellas. You now this especially if your a parent , if you see someone doing something wrong or in danger of being hurt or losing their soul you don’t flatter them to hell you warn them of the danger even if the warning is uncomfortable to hear . Same way a father scores a child playing with a electric socket and the child might think he’s mean and doesn’t like to do anything fun the father knows the consequences are great even if the child cannot . So to say we don’t understand that we as Christians don’t fully grasp how to live our neighbors and be respectful to people and allow them to be gay because like y’all mentioned it’s given them false hope which is way worse .
We can’t defend every thing the pope out of pride for the Catholic Church and to save face because there have been several bad popes through history have there not ? Yet God has allowed it to happen .
If we want to understand why there are people that maybe shouldn’t be in the position they are in we have to think of the parable of the weeds and the wheat .
    Matthew 13:24-30
New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition
The Parable of Weeds among the Wheat
24 He put before them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to someone who sowed good seed in his field; 25 but while everybody was asleep, an enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and then went away. 26 So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared as well. 27 And the slaves of the householder came and said to him, ‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? Where, then, did these weeds come from?’ 28 He answered, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The slaves said to him, ‘Then do you want us to go and gather them?’ 29 But he replied, ‘No; for in gathering the weeds you would uproot the wheat along with them. 30 Let both of them grow together until the harvest; and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Collect the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.’”

Ryan S. is absolutely right, and was being charitable in his points. See it is possible to be charitable but talk about the Truth!
90% of the posts below seem to agree and the real true faithful in the Church are really upset about this whole thing and we need strong leadership from our bishops and priests.
Fr. Rich, you are just wrong here. It's possible to be pastoral while maintaining Truth (and not being ambiguous). Obviously in your own example of the trans person, no good priest would slam the door and make the person feel unwelcome. But you cannot say or do anything to "affirm" such a delusion and let a person continue living in sin. Obviously the trans person may have already had an operation so there's no going back, so maybe for this example a gay person would be a better example.
A pastoral response would be for a priest to help the person understand and accept the church teaching (and using discernment for pastoral care, no need to throw the book on first meeting) and guide the person to the right programs out there within the Church that help LGB people live either chastely or try to convert and live happy lives in straight marriage (maybe even with kids). It IS possible! This should be the response of the Church!
For those practicing homosexuals who don't want to give up the sex. Ok fine, they should be welcome at Mass but not to receive communion because according to the Church's own teachings it would do them more harm than good, perhaps dooming them. There is plenty of grace to be had just sitting in the pews and hearing Truth and receiving the blessing everyone receives at the end.
This isn't to single out homosexuals. It's this way with many things/sins. And yes, I once was a practicing homosexual living in terribly grave sin daily. I'm dating women now and I believe God willing I will have a wife and kids, and it will be to glorify God and His Church. What Pope Francis and much of the curia and the general liberal wing of the Church are doing is undermining God's glory to even bring about the transition I've seen in my life. But I was willing to hear, accept and take on the Church's teachings, not everyone is. The Pope cannot forget about those who hold fast to the Church's teachings, but it feels like he has.

Yes the sheep will run off, you love them period, but you let them know where they stand, where Mom and Dad stand. Then they can be happy when they do right and feel bad when they know what's bad.
You love them either way, but Jesus spoke the truth about Go and Sin no More, and about a real Hell.
Give a person high expectations and they typically meet them, be wishy washy, and they'll be confused and unhappy. We are God's children. We need to know where we stand. You think that people will run away from hard truth, but they won't forever. If they choose to go lukewarm, that gets stressful. They get to a point they want God's stability. Great discussion. There was a point at the 38:27 mark where Father says "I don't want to say this is what the pope is saying if he is not saying that...." He confirmed with this statement that the document is confusing and even though he may try and justify that it lines up with the catechism, in reality it opens the door for some folks to implement their own agenda in this area. The question for me is was this done intentionally or not. What would this blessing of same sex couples look like? If it is done publicly, in front of the congregation, it will look like a marriage ceremony and create scandal by making it look like the church condones sodomy. If you bless the relationship privately, do you encourage the couple to be chaste? If folks are uncomfortable with the blessing of same sex couples in the church, will they be labelled as rigid? Why did these cardinals write this dubia? Is it because there is confusion coming out of the synod or is because some in the hierarchy don't believe that sodomy is a sin because they are homosexual and believe that God made them that way? The response creates more questions than it answers. Please pray for the church, live the example of the churches teaching on sexuality, and go to confession often. God Bless.

Thanks for this segment. I had not seen Pope Francis' response to the dubia and I appreciate this talk. I agree with the pastoral viewpoint espoused in this talk show. I also agree that it might have been 'clearer' had the response been "no" but we must love ... I thoroughly enjoyed this talk show. It was my first time listening. I plan to listen in the future.

I’m SSA but I extracted myself from a relationship and became celibate. This is what those like Father miss, yes I can be blessed but you CAN’T bless ‘union’ if they are not willing to leave the union, like Milo did. It’s nice to be pastored by a priest who gives me support for the choice I make every day but if I were to go back into a relationship, he could not give us a blessing so I can then go to Holy Communion. Same thin g is happening with divorce and remarried; I know a couple the man has been married 3 times and only the first was annulled and he doesn’t want to leave his current wife when they are living in sin and wish to go to Communion;; the Synod is pushing that this should be blessed and approved but they want to continue living in this relationship, so how does he go to confession saying I’m not going to turn away from my sin but still go to Communion

Thanks for sharing! I saw you commented on my other post. It's a tough road! Was formerly exclusively SSA as well. I think God's giving me a chance at marriage to a woman, so keep praying/fasting/surrounding yourself with that if you would like that as well! God is very good and wants the best for us.
But yea, it's insane watching the Catholic Church turn into what looks like the Episcopal Church. Maybe people like us need to come out of the woodwork more to make ourselves known so the Church better realizes that it has actual adherents to the faith who are SSA who need real shepherding and not scandalizing. It probably wouldn't matter because the Holy Father has his agenda.

I saw this in the military with “Don’t ask, don’t tell” in 1991 which helped to normalize the lifestyle so that in 2015 same sex marriage was legalized. Back then, they told us it would never happen, and conservatives started to become a little less than persecuted because we have conservative beliefs about marriage.
We are now called racist, bigots and fascists.

Ephesians 3:20 (KJV) Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the 👉power that worketh in us.

First, thank you for covering this difficult subject matter, which only broke in the news several days ago. I first heard about it when my teenage son, who is not Catholic, came to me and asked why the Pope is suddenly "allowing blessings for gay marriages". It really put me in an uncomfortable spot, being that I'm only a relatively recent convert myself.
In your discussion, I'm hearing a lot of concern for "pastoral kindness" to people in this situation who ultimately want to be blessed in their gay unions.
Being a good pastor does not always involve being "kind" and encouraging. There is 2 Timothy 3:16-17 that says that the scriptures are good for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. Sometimes good pastoral care is not about encouraging; sometimes what people need is an admonishment or a life-giving rebuke (especially those who doggedly reject sound doctrine and are desperately, relentlessly trying to twist things to support their cause until they get their way). Not rebuking in a spirit-crushing way, but in a way that leaves no room for doubt or confusion, and ultimately leads to them repenting. And if this age is about anything, it's about doubt and confusion.
I do blame the Pope for being so vague in his responses to issues and often leaving such room for confusion. I think if he felt strongly on this subject he would have left no doubts. In the end, his vague wording will give the the LGBTQ community what it wants to be able to twist things to their advantage in public discourse and to endlessly continue this awful debate.
And no, this is not something that should be kept between the bishops, cardinals, and the Pope. We lay people are crying out for clear guidance on these hot-button topics in this culture war, and we're not getting it from this Pope. I'd like to be able to go back to my son with clear answers. There is so much upheaval and debate on this gay marriage subject that we need a very public clarification from the Church. And those German bishops that are blessing gay unions need to be shut down -- visibly, loudly, and clearly. Not after years of ongoing error, but yesterday.

A great discussion guys. Glad it’s being talked about. We have to be careful how we treat people. There are many who won’t step into a church because they don’t feel welcome. This subject about blessing the people and not the sin is hot on social media. My pastor refused to marry my own son ( he is not gay) but married to a female. He told the pastor he believed there was a God but was not certain it was Jesus. They got married by secular person, said a simple blessing. So far, they have been married for many years. He won’t go to a church and feels unwelcome. So, perhaps offering a blessing could smooth out the feathers and bring people back to the church. It’s not just the gay issue. The pews are empty in some church’s and it’s both Protestant and Catholic with same problem.

Friendships don't normally seek out an official Church blessing. Here, I think it's clear that "they" -- the "couple" would be looking for a "green light" to continue in a homosexual relationship--which would naturally include sexual relations. I love this episode! Thank you so much for addressing this and I think you all did a great job of dissecting the questions, the Pope's answer and the Catechism's fundamental truths as taught by the Church.

    • @katiehav1209

Does it specify as a couple? Or is that being inserted and assumed? And if the Church doesnt recognize their union does it matter if they are presenting themselves for blessing individually together? Why is everyone turning this blessing into a wedding when it's clearly stated it cannot be?

    • @jamesdooley2221
      @jamesdooley2221 7 месяцев назад +6

Obviously, blessings of gay 'couples' shall become a semi Catholic gay marriage to the gay community. Pope Francis wrote that these blessings shouldn't be seen as a marriage. Obviously, it consists of the blessing of two people; a blessing of a single person couldn't be misunderstood as a marriage; one can't marry oneself.

If two of our kids in a heterosexual relationship were living together, we'd be eager for them to have hands laid on them to be blessed.
We wouldn't be worried about them presenting themselves together in their sinful state. Why is that?

  • @Robert-bm2jr

I am only a few minutes into this conversation, but I want to touch on the idea that "blessing" versus "marriage" is a key distinction. There is a letter from a priest in San Francisco where he talks about a young same sex attracted woman who points to the words of Pope Francis as justification for her lifestyle. Whether he is being pastoral or not is irrelevant. His words are being used by some to justify sinful behavior. If he wants to make a clear distinction, then he could do so. He is intentionally being vague.

    • @hleedina5567
      @hleedina5567 6 месяцев назад

His vagueness is also misleading to priests., as some priests are caught committing these acts with other men or little children. These guys don't fully understand the people that were invited to the synod. Please look at the official poster with the bishops watermark on it approved by the pope. There is no ambiguity as which direction this pope is slowly but incrementally leading people.

For most cases I would say, not all but most, gay couples seeking a blessing aren't seeking help or guidance, they're seeking validation. I'm from Belgium and our bishops have written out a "liturgy" for the "blessing" of same-sex unions. Aside from it being problematic that the bishops are making this "blessing" official, it's basically the liturgy of a wedding, where at the moment of the sacramental blessing of marriage, they "bless" the same-sex union. For an outsider, or a badly catechised catholic, it looks like a marriage ceremony.
