As a Latin American who immigrated to the USA as a child, we were always given a sip of wine on special occasions. The term "drinking" rings very bad in English-speaking countries. Do you drink? conjures up ideas of being a drunk, an alcoholic. Do I drink what? It's obvious that that first question has another dimension in America and the English countries. Perhaps a better way of asking would be "Do you abuse alcohol." That would be better understood.

It's not bad if you don't overdo it. Paul says that drunkards will be cast out with the sodomites, but Jesus' first miracle was turning water into wine! That is not a contradiction, as the heathens will claim. The clear distinction between the two is this: moderation. God bless!

Everyone was Catholic, everyone went to mass, the religious ran our schools and our hospitals. So, Catholics can do as they please, outside of the basilica
I moderate cannabis edibles for PTSD and anxiety; I have to be honest and say that it helps my severe anxiety to the point that I can play at the park with my kids again and other public events. Great show! Really enjoyed the discourse on this episode. It was definitely clarifying for someone like me, who enjoys a drink on occasion, appreciates the natural incense of tobacco smoke, and is perhaps a little too fond of crass language. I think it's important to emphasize that moderation rules the day in all things, and as long as we have an eye to giving thanks for the gifts of alcohol and tobacco used rightly, we should find it difficult to stray too far down the path to perdition.
So, I'm confused. Are any of them allowed? They just seemed to make jokes about them and move on to the next one without saying whether or not some things were allowed.

You guys should do a whole episode on "nicely" translated Bible versus. This example is one and I can't remember where (Isaiah?) when mocking pagan gods it says "where is your God now, taking a dump?"
Is it ok to drink alone as long as you're not getting drunk? And not everyone drinks alone because they are wallowing in some kind of misery. Some drink just because it's relaxing and being alone can be restorative, with just time to reflect and "chill" out (again, as long as you don't get mindlessly drunk).
That used to be my struggle I used to drink alone I will do it from sun up to sundown on a Friday night And that was a sin for me Because the way I was doing . Why was able to control it and not get drunk there's nothing wrong with . So the best thing for me Go to a movie the offers Wine I can just take one glass and no more and that will be fine .
In New Orleans we have a lot of Catholic parishes. My school had a monseigneur, who had a reputation among the students for being strict. Each one of these "vices" including the musical choices, must be approached from various cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic stand points. @Paula Diroshea Fernando Yes I thought as much. However would the classification of strong drink depend upon the individual drinking, and how much one could drink before getting drunk compared to another for example?
I just started thinking about the old fashioned swearing. In Romeo and Juliet Mercuric shouts “A plague on both your houses!” He is cursing the Capulets and the Montagues. There is also G.B.Shaw’s play Pygmalion. Professor Higgins has used Eliza, his student, to win a bet with his friend Colonel Pickering. Despite the odds he made the poor Cockney flower seller into a beautifully dressed, proper lady who speaks upper class English. As per his cold nature he casually talks about wanting to discard her because he has no use for her. Eliza is worried about her future. She can’t go back to standing on the curb selling violets. She becomes enraged and hurls Higgins’ bedroom slippers at him. She shouts “There are your slippers. And there. Take your slippers; and may you never have a day’s luck with them!” There is no crassness or profanity in these examples. Imagine if people walked around saying thing like that now.
Enjoyed the show and humor there are Catholics and Protestants that don't drink, smoke, use drugs or faul language. It depends on the home environment who one is associated with.Growing up MOM allowed none of that in our home environment.I never smoked till my 40's and that was briefly.Drugs I never wanted apart of I saw it destroy to many lives. Two of our classmates was murdered before our senior year of high school over a drug situation gone wrong. Both were girls. Our public high school was filled with drug use in the 1970's and it was actually a dangerous situation because drug deals was going on around s person daily.I never wanted a part of it.

okay okay! I don't wanna be a bad catholic so I'm dropping a comment now! lol God Bless ya guys! This is the sort of thing we need now in the church to let the kids know that our fiath is not so un-cool... :)
With respect: I am a gym rat and health nut; but on occasion, I will indulge in a cigar, or some vanilla tobacco in my cherrywood pipe. Then the next day: I don't. Perhaps I'm the weirdo; but it doesn't rule me. 🤷♂️
Perhaps we need to ask, "SHOULD Catholics smoke?", rather than "CAN Catholics smoke?". I am having a difficult time understanding how a percentage of Catholics can justify tobacco smoking (i.e., cigarettes and cigars) when these substances are harmful to bodily health. There's a strong difference between partaking in an action and condoning an action. There are people who partake in tobacco smoking, but simultaneously would never condone, promote or encourage tobacco smoking. I think that's why we should approach this topic compassionately and critically rather than resorting to stances that either condemn or condone.
Hi there. I would like to make two short comments. First I that God made man in his image and that we are to take care of ourselves the best way we can. The second is your show reminds me of group of guys in basement man cave. They would have a couple of smokes, drinks, and laughs. I would ask you guys to invite a few women on occasion to your show BUT I fear it would spoil the atmosphere. Thanks for all your information especially on the saints. Take care and God bless.

Great show, Mr. Knowles is very good at articulating, is he in politics? 🎙🤔😅 Gracias por la platica Católica!
I used to smoke in high school Marble cigarettes.. They're not used to smoke cigars then after that pipes. I like the pipes bet better. I love the Roma on the smelling of it.
Always fun
I don't like being around someone that smokes cause I have asthma makes me cough.
I used to have a drinking problem. And I started going to AA, so now I hadn't had a drink for 17. I've been told some priest have gone to a a. I'm not sure if that's true or not but that's what I heard.
I would love to hear Ryan's conversion

Yes.
My boy Michael Knowles!
With respect: I am a gym rat and health nut; but on occasion, I will indulge in a cigar, or some vanilla tobacco in my cherrywood pipe.
Then the next day: I don't.
Perhaps I'm the weirdo; but it doesn't rule me. 🤷♂️
Good for you💗
I think Padre Pío had a box of ceder Woody shavings😊
Missing the input of our sisters in this discussion...
This takes me back to the 60s in our apartment when I was ten years old and my father would have his buddies over for a penny anny poker game around the dining room table. They would have a couple of smokes, drinks, and laughs. I would ask you guys to invite a few women on occasion to your show BUT I fear it would spoil the atmosphere. Thanks for all your information especially on the saints. Take care and God bless.
Don’t just wash the outside of the cup!
I have to be careful in the things on your list. Because I'm age 66 and I need to take care of myself.
God bless
I'm a catholic I don't do those things anymore I used to smoke marijuana . And also been to confession Told everything didn't leave anything out . And I used to go to AA
Aspirine the wunder drug...use as prescribed, limited daily (monthly) use
Bad joke: I don’t smoke drink or swear but Oh sh** I left my cigarettes in the bar.
Whenever I use a cuss word it's when I step my toe or something like that i'm not cussing you know one out. When i'm driving and I accidentally cut some enough and that person sometimes gives me the middle finger I don't do it back to them but I just wave them i'm sure that makes a mad I don't do it back to them.
