Thanks for posting this video. I hiked Mt Baden-Powell early yesterday morning and I saw the sign for Big Horn Mine in the parking lot. I have always wondered about that trail. I will definately do the hike!
This is a pretty cool hike! I've done this a few times, but be aware that Highway 2 may close from time to time due to rock fall on the freeway. Great instructional video!
That first washout is one of my favorite views of any SoCal hike. Its a shame there is constant graffiti on the trails in SoCal. I've often thought about bringing environmentally friendly beige and gray spray paint to cover over the unsightly graffiti, and realize it will be a lifelong endeavor.
Lifelong endeavors can be extremely rewarding. Adopt a section of trail that you value and carry the right colors. Rust brown..flat grey.. satin hunter club green..and black..take back the wilderness 😉
Tried to go to the cabin last weekend but the sign that you head left at is missing. I recently let my AllTrails sub lapse so we turned around instead of getting lost. We went a little ways down and the trail is very overgrown. I want to try again soon!
First of all thank you for insightful information. I am planning to visit the place any day between 12/25/22 to 12/31/22. Is this advisable if it doesn't rain?
whats a great dog friendly hike that has lots of greenery? distance doesnt matter. my favorite so far that you have posted is holy jim trails. love all of the water streams and fig trees but its too short and the parking sucks. thanks
This is a great one for dogs. Not too strenuous and lots of great mountain greens. Unfortunately Holy Jim is gone I think - the fire started right in the trailhead area. Hope they get that fire under control soon but as of now it's barely contained.
@@Hikingguy I did not. I am a new hiker and my friends who are more experienced weren't expecting the snow so we didn't prepare for the ice. I think we are going again in the spring so hopefully we will get some pics of that and Vincent's cabin.
@@ssgsecurity7311 Oh wow... I've always turned around at the sight of ice on any of the washes on this trail, or any other. Even in Spring or Summer, a couple spots on this particular trail are really open for an accident. Hope you are well!
looks like you travel light you don't go off trail and horse around I'm always looking for things I would have panned some of the dirt from that stream knowing it was an old gold mine you carry a water filter streams are awesome free water fill up the water bladder maybe mix up some more gator ade and head back down
Yup, I head off trail a lot. I spend a decent chunk of time exploring (new) trails from Open Street Maps. Usually they're pretty primitive. And yea, always carry a filter. I've got buddies who drink straight out of the stream up in the mountains, but I don't carry enough toilet paper to take those risks!
from what I understand food poisoning is not much different from drinking unfiltered water I've had food poisoning I carry like 30 pounds a lot of work but 2 days later I feel amazing no joke out in the open talk to you on the next video boss
Thank you for this

Ha, yea, I did Baden-Powell twice before I tried Big Horn. Worth the extra hour and you can add it onto a Baden-Powell hike too, it's not really hard.
Solid walk through. Thank you.

Going this coming Friday....can't wait.
Nice, enjoy, it's a fun one, just go early to beat the crowds

check my video on checking for snow - not advisable if there's snow (probably is covered now but not positive)

HikingGuy.com I was wondering where the holy him fire started. Too bad it’s gone.
think it started by the cabins / trailhead in Holy Jim - sad, but nice to see that they're getting it under control
I just did thus trail today but it was too icy to finish. Was beautiful but I am sad I didn't bring my mirrorless camera
That's a bummer. Did you have microspikes and it was still too crazy?

@@Internalgrace Ahh that makes sense, yea, you did the right thing. Save it for a day without the ice, it'll still be great!
Wish I would've known this =( I fell down the wash just the other day due to ice. Had to get rescued. Such a horrible memory

When do you think the best time to go is? When there is not a lot of people
any day at sunrise is your best bet
HikingGuy.com thank you
Do you think it would be good to propose at? Not too many people?
If you go early on a weekday you will probably be good, but weekends there will be a crowd.
&&& good luck!
Great video and maps, etc. Another video on this hike: ruclips.net/video/n_T3Wdo9UUQ/видео.html
What time of day was this? Thank you
It's mid-morning in the summer
HikingGuy.com thank you. Oops sorry, I also meant like Sunday?
ahh.. Friday
