Jeff always said that guitar tone of Billy was always Jeff’s ideal . Jeff kept his respect to many musicians. When he was younger, many’s people said Jeff was different person. But true Jeff was humble and never lack respect to excellent musicians.
Just saw this great little band from Texas here in Toppenish Wa. and They mentioned Jeff, I knew I had to find this connection…This song has helped heal my soul many a times, thank you brothers!
I absolutely loved this, was very surprised such a performance happened. All of the recordings I've caught of this gig, none of them do the actual sound in the RAH any justice. It sounded great.
Don't let the "redneck schtick" looks fool you. I'd wager his IQ is easily north of 140. It makes sense that he's not into musicians' self-destruction as so often occurs.
Will never forget how Billy Gibbons played the "Rough Boy" solo in Roskilde. The weather was some real shit, but we all suddenly got goosepimples all over. Great solo.
That drummer lady has neet skills. Don't know her name but I take my hat off to her. Billy Gibbons is... Well, Billy Gibbons. After JJ Cale I think it's the only player who can turn a chilled rainy day into a hot summer afternoon with his guitar. Musical climate changers 😅
Her name is Anika Niles. She was on the last Jeff Beck tour. She also has some solo stuff with her band. Check her out here on RUclips. I think you might like it!!
ZZ Top had the best live sound I’ve heard in a concert venue to date. Loved seeing them live and this is one of my favorite songs. I saw their “Afterburner” tour.
Way back at the LA Forum Arrowsmith (new band) opened for ZZ they were so good ZZ had to do 4-5 encores which was epic. They were soaked in sweat, so were we!
I never took them seriously, thinking they just wrote catchy songs for hootin' hollerin' redneck's appreciation. That was a stupid mistake on my part, as it is for anyone who ignorantly regards Skynyrd that way. Anyway, disappointed that they were headlining the first Eric Clapton Crossroads concert in Dallas, I first saw them live. And it hit me. And the most striking thing about it was the massive wall of sound - full, rich sound - that came out of just 3 players. That alone blew my mind. I had only ever felt that from Grand Funk. I now regard them as one of the greatest live acts ever. Who'd a thunkit. Before I reserved such accolades for Jimi and Derek and the Who and such, but, albeit late, I finally caught on.
(02:40) Unbelievable to see such beasts still making mistakes after all these years of guitar mastery. It may reassure most of us ☺️ that Even the bests can still make mistakes
You're all over Jonny but you should know, Jeff and he were really close friends and jonny was instrumental in putting all this together. Best of mates. 😄
2:42 haha he loses his place on fretboard, hits flat 5 instead and then mutters "damn". he's really singing and really playing and with all the mistakes it's nice to hear what actually is being played instead of a studio frankenstein with edits and auto tune and multiple takes. Depp hittin those 1/8th note low notes!
Die Musik von ZZTop wird immer mein größtes Lebenselexier sein und bleiben. Der Tod von Dusty macht mich immer noch traurig. Aber Mann: „ Yes I‘m old, but I‘ve seen ZZTop on stage.“
@@EdubertoPalitroke ZZ Top uses a lot of pre-recorded vocals for their live performances, just like many other bands do these days. Their current concert performances are a mixture between some songs with live real vocals, and others with pre-recorded vocals. I understand some people not liking or approving of that. But it definitely makes their live performances sound much better. Billy Gibbons has had a lot of problems with his voice over the years. I don’t think he would be capable of singing all of the songs live night after night on a tour. It would end up sounding pretty bad.
The issue of Johnny Depp: Rough Boys, despite its linear theme, is a sophisticated piece of music that is complex in its simplicity. It’s probably my favorite ZZ Topp tune and it requires a talent like Billy Gibbons to bring out its feeling and uniquely haunting qualities. The following is just my humble thoughts and is just an observation not meant to inflict hurt. It’s admirable that Johnny Depp has gone to such effort to honor and commemorate Jeff Beck and he should be acknowledged for that. That said, Rough Boys is not the song for him to participate in. To my fairly untrained eye it’s not clear what exactly Johnny is doing as far as accompaniment is concerned and I’ll leave it at that. It becomes a distraction after a bit with the ambling around the stage, etc. My point is why step in on a song clearly over your ability when I think Johnny does have enough guitar chops to play along with many other less challenging ZZ Top tunes where he could hold his own. I don’t like to see players put themselves in that position cuz I believe Johnny meant well. Just a thought.
Agreed. I am a bad guitar player. I can keep rhythm, play the changes, even throw down a lick now and then. I could sit in the mix on most pop songs. What I can't do, is to play a complex song with feel and soul. Neither can Johnny. And I wouldn't pretend to either. Especially not while parading around in a contrived "rock guy" outfit. It all seems so fake.
The only guy that should have been there out of those players is lukather, jeff and him knew each other and steve was producing a beck solo album that ended up getting scrapped jan hammer should’ve been there too also
Amber Heard complained in the trial that Johnny was "always hanging out playing guitar with old men." Yep, Ms. Heard. Those old men included Jeff Beck, and many of those on stage. 99.9% of humanity would've found that awesome. The jury probably noticed that you were an exception.
great song , RIP Jeff and thanks Mr Gibbons.... but what Johnny Depp is supposed to play ? I never understood his presence on stage with these good musicians.
Depp wearing that hat makes me think of Homer Simpson at Lollapalooza wearing the Rasta hat and not pulling it off, at all. “Narc! Don’t try your hate crimes here! [pointing] HAAAATE CRIIIME!!!”
Okay Jeff didn’t mind putting him up on the stage, and we can wonder why, but as far as I can see they liked each other and became friends - the rest is history ❤ this is about Jeff the guy, just like Gibbons said 🍺
Imagine being a Rock And Roll Guitar player for over 50 years and a great one at that. Yet having to stand next to the ultimate poser strutting around on stage pretending to be a rock star.
Billy Gibbons. There's no substitute.
This song is a masterpiece.
Jeff always said that guitar tone of Billy was always Jeff’s ideal .
Jeff kept his respect to many musicians.

I'm soɓbing again. Miss Jeff So Much
I’ve always loved this song and now I love it even more.

Billy you are the best🤗,.. Rip Dusty🙏🥀
My fav song they ever did. Its so sweet sounding. Wonderful pinch harmonics give it that special sauce.
Johnny Depp and Jeff were friends for over 30 years. JD also was one of the organizers of the tribute.
The great reverend Billy with a fingerpoint again and I cry of Amsterdam
I've always loved this song, extremely underrated ZZ Top song.
Well said Billy…. and loved his ‘Jeff’ story…. gorgeous ❤🙏🎶
I love hearing Billy Gibbons actually sing this song live. It’s the first time I’ve ever heard him sing it truly live.
Magic Billy Jeff will be smiling many thanks it’s one of my favourite ZZ songs
Absolutely, ZZZ, fantastic moments. Thanks for posting them. Rip master Jeff Beck

I was so lucky to be there. What a cast of musicians sharing a stage.

ZZ TOP フォーエバー、ジェフ・ベック フォーエバー
I love this song ❤😊
Gibbons is ageless not just his looks but his playing. He’s been taking care of himself no doubt

Saw ZZTop 1975 winter land great show what a great tribute from some of the best. To probably the best
Great.
One of my favorites.
Another example that you don't have to play fast to play well. Billy's tone is awesome.
Johnny is Joe cool....money will buy u anything
Totally agree.
@@timothyvandyke-lc1oi And that is the ONLY reason why you see him on stage with Billy Gibbons.

Johnny Playing Jeff's Reverse Headstock Strat? He has it on tour with his other band and keeps it elevated on stage.

Billy is having a hard time getting through that tune. I can't imagine how bad he must have felt while singing that and thinking of Jeff.
I like
Maybe it's been said before, but Billy is the Nolan Ryan of R&R.
Johnny with the nod to Jeff, playing a JB Signature Strat, and the metal armband.
Thank you Billy for identifying the lady bass player.
You should check out the shows Beck and Depp did last Fall (quite a few on RUclips), Beck’s band is terrific!!

Dunno if I’m getting deaf, but I can hear FA of JD in that mix, on quality ‘phones.

If Depp would not be famous, no-one would ever let him close to any stage. But at least he enjoys himself.
Depp was in a rock band before he became an actor.
Can you hear the drums of Watergate Frank
🤣 Billy has more stage presence in his little finger than Depp will ever have!
It is not a competition. If you ever played with people you loved you would know.
Have some respect it's a tribute to there friend not who can play better grow up😊
Can't have it all. But, just watch JD in movies....
