Everything so mechanical. I love it. My first car was a VW beetle. Nobody would try to listen to any strange noise. If it ran at all, all fine! Life was good.
I have a soft spot for the older bugs, I was a VW guild craftsman for 15 years (until shortly after water cooled came out) .my first three daily drivers were a 1959 convertible, and 2 1960 VW convertibles . These were just old used cars at this time 👍😄🎩
I never had one older than 67. That was my first one. I have had 9 since. My son and I are working on our 69 Ghia that we saved from the car crusher! See ya out there on the road 👍
@@kavanghia6908 I also had a 1956 oval, a 1967 square back, a 1969 Gaia, a 1973 thing, a 73 convertible, a 68 and 70 fastbacks bought new. A 68 bug, a fiber glass dunebuggy with a dual carb type 3 engine 👍🎩
I 1st rode in my dads type 2 pickup the single cab bed in back model in 1958. I was 6 then and we'd head down to the boat here in san diego and go catch yellowtail at the Coronado Islands in mexican waters. Through high school and after someone always had a bug or a van to go and ride the wild 🏄♂️ Yours is such a great car ❤ 😁
If the entire gas pedal assembly detaches from the floorboard (which happened to me in Midtown Manhattan back in '76), unhook the cable loop from the pedal, stick the wire tips into the front sole of your right shoe, and (carefully) use your foot as a gas pedal
My first car in 1976 was a light blue VW Beetle 1960 model. Top speed 69 miles per hour. Took the bumper bars off one day and top speed increased to 72 mph. No fuel gage. Cost me $80 including several months registration. Head lights were pathetic. Great driving in forest in rough tracks. 1100cc motor. onwed it 12 months til I rear ended a much bigger car! next car was a 1966 1300cc Beetle. Then a 1969 Type 3 station wagon. Then had no car for 5 years and rode my BMW R100RT motorcycle instead. Loved driving my Beetle!
I bought my first car 2 weeks after I turned 13. That was 1987. It was a '68 Beetle that my dad helped me push home because I didn't have money for a tow truck, "It's your car, it's your problem." haha. I later had a '62 and a '66. I remember that book! My dad found it in a used bookstore for like $2.50, it was spiral bound and well worn. I know I wouldn't have thrown it out, the real question is, where is it now...
You’re same age with me, only I had my first 73 bug when 17 ,later 74 bug ,68 squareback ,51 split ,now I just keep 68 ghia vert for the past 11 yrs - VW for life 😅👍🏼
Keep that cutie all original (except have a DUAL chamber master cylinder)! They're only original once. I had 4 early 60's bugs back in the day, a '61, two sunroof '62s, and a '63, and my dad had a ceramic green '60. I LOVE 'EM! ❤ I have been in love with 1958 to early '64 Herbie Generation bugs since the '60s. 1960 was the last year for the 36 hp motor. They make that characteristic "high shrill" noise when upshifting, unlike their 40 hp replacements. BTW, 1961 was the last year with no gas gauge and reserve switch. Likewise for the "snowflake" taillights, which were replaced with the larger "high heel" taillights with separate turn signals. I wish I had never installed the gas gauge on my '61 as '61 was a one off year for gas tanks. (lotsa luck finding one) I cannibalized the gas tank out of one of my '62s for the conversion. And I decked out my other '62 to look just like Herbie. Them were the days (70's and '80s)!
Reminds me of my 59 beetle. It could manage a top speed of about 50 miles an hour on State Route 58 driving down to Fairfield Connecticut. I would just keep the pedal to the floorboards the entire trip.
Save the original bumpers. They are gold, I wish my car had them. No grommets on the bumper risers is cool. I love the door panels, blue interior is very nice looking. Maybe see if you can have the seam on the passenger front seat repaired. other wise the interior is worn to perfection. It would be hard for me to fight the temptation, to have a new paint job on the exterior, and re-chrome the bumpers. But that's just me and I'm nuts that way. Very nice car.

Actually, they (in the US anyway) originally had clear lenses with clear light bulbs. Amber front turn signals were not required until the '64 model year in the US.
my 1960 beetle had white ish clear plastic front indicators with clear globe inside. As far as I know they were factory fitted. Orange indicators were first offered on the 12 volt 1500cc 1968 model as far as I know.
My 1960 model did not have that tube, as far as I know, the tube was not included on the 1960 model onwards, which is a shame cos I thought they looked cool!
Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they even want to slow down all the gas pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.
In California the Democrat party wants to ban classic cars. They claim they pollute the atmosphere. That is a bunch of crap. The state even made my mother get a smog check on her 1965 VW once. They did a smog check where there was some kind of tube that was inserted into her tail pipe that measured emissions, and was hooked up to some kind of machine. When the test was completed, her VW passed the check with flying colors, and there were hardly any emissions. The mechanic even said, "where is the smog" because there was hardly any. The smog readings were also better than what came out of newer cars. The Democrat politicians in the state of California are biased, and want to ban anything powered by any form of gas. They are banning gas stoves, gas furnaces, gas water heaters, gas powered power tools, and now ban the sale of gas lawnmowers. They want people to go electric here. The power grid won't be able to take all of the demand. Yet they are doing very little to stop these side shows where people are burning their tires in intersections and are causing a lot of smoke.

Lovely, lovely lovely!! And such a nice color, too!! It would be tempting to restore it, but such a shame at the same time!

Wow it's cool to see something all original....
What does one of these sell for?
Typically between $6000 to $25000, depending on condition, which plays a huge factor in price.
