We had this car in that EXACT color in 1967! Cutest little thing ever! No air conditioning, but heat. No power anything. 4-speed manual. Ours was much quieter than the one in this video, though. My older brother got it after our dad was done with it. First thing he did was change the gas pedal to the Hippie Barefoot black-and-chrome thing. During one particularly icy Chicago morning my father and I were in it going too fast around a tight curve on Sheridan Road in Highland Park when he hit a patch of black ice and we spun around twice. Thank goodness no one else was on the road there at that time or we would have been in a very bad accident. As it was, he just registered exhilaration on his face and drove on, telling me that he used to do that a lot when he was younger. Twelve years later -- five years after my father died of cancer -- I found myself in Formula racing school in Mont Tremblant, Quebec in a Van Diemen Formula Ford. I was the only person to spin out on the course (started that turn about six inches too early and about two miles per hour too fast) on the second day. Again, there was enough space between us so I didn't collide with anyone, but it sure brought back memories of that day as a little kid in that baby blue Volkswagen Beetle. Ironically, Van Diemen was bought by Élan Motorsports, which is near where I now live in Georgia.
My dream car. I built a Tamiya bug model kit a few years ago & painted it EXACTLY the same as yours-body & interior. I even painted the rims the same baby blue & color as the body. The interior upholstery all white & all dashboard & metal surfaces the same blue as the body. That’s a BEAUTIFUL bug!
If that "anthracite grey" is the original color, it's what VW called "Mouse Gray" ("Mausgrau" in German). That was an available original color for VWs in 1962.
My very first car (a 1962 Beetle purchased in 1969) was virtually identical to this one except mine had a large fabric sunroof…otherwise mine was identical to this one, including the interior and exterior colors.
Well I got All 'The HARD Stuff' completed (on MY 62' SR.. (I JUST HAFTA' PUT IT 'ALL' BACK TOGETHER NOW!!).. 'Back in The Day'.. I coulda' put a 40-HP Engine together IN THE DARK.. (I don't think My Skills.. 'or My Back' are in That Great a Shape Anymore!!)..
A beetle unmolested as it should be. Nice original survivor. Brilliant! Well done!!

Thanks for your presentation is wonderfull.
The color of your bug is "Gulf Blue." Back in the day, I had 4 early '60s bugs, including 2 sunroof '62s.
You are a wealth of information about these cars. Are you on the Samba site?

Wanna sell that beautiful car !
By the way I have a '60 and it doesn't do that wandering thing at all, any speed. I've even had it to a hair under 74 MPH according to my RaceBox.
Well I got All 'The HARD Stuff' completed (on MY 62' SR..
(I JUST HAFTA' PUT IT 'ALL' BACK TOGETHER NOW!!)..
'Back in The Day'.. I coulda' put a 40-HP Engine together IN THE DARK..

Add a pair of caster shims. Under $20.00 problem solved.
Nice car.
😍
It even sounds German... nice.
A PLASTIC inline fuel filter inside the engine compartment of a hot air-cooled engine? You are just asking for an engine fire!!
