    A really great and proven way to fish.

    great finding right depth but then what is happening with the tide? getting shallower or deeper with the tide? cant leave for too long if water is changing. as well as the drop offs find where the shallow water is draining off the receding water into the deeper areas, flathead sit waiting for food to come to them with the water draining off.

    Game Changer Tip! A whole piece of bread in the trap with maybe a small hole in the middle. The bread floats and the mullet go NUTS and sooo many end up in the trap quickly. If you have a bought perspex trap with a large hole put some tape over it to make the hole smaller than the bread so it stays in there. You won't have to wait for mullet to get in there to stir up the bread at the bottom.

    Sometimes I just took transparent plastic bag, put some Brad inside. Put that in the water. After few moments of observing a lot of mullets are inside. I just jump fast to my plastic bag. The mullets are in escape mode but some of them can't get out of the bag because they can't find the exit. Normally very fast method...

    Heres a question you've probable never been asked, how do you catch smaller mullet? Im in QLD, so traps are dodgy, so I use sabiki style jigs, size 6 or smaller hooks, but I still catch chunky buggers, 10 inch plus. For live bait I like fish around the 6 inch mark (or less).

    • @RogerOsborneFishing
      @RogerOsborneFishing  14 дней назад

      I use a size 12 Trout hook to catch the smaller Mullet by line. I often catch them around 8 - 10cm.

    • @Smokeyr67
      @Smokeyr67 14 дней назад +1

      @RogerOsborneFishing thanks Roger, I've been using 6 and 8 size "sabiki", so I'll drop down to size 12 and tie my own (mind you, I get some very nice sized Gar on the jigs I'm using, not QLD legal, but a bit of fun when you get a couple on 2kilo main line😃👍)

    I use a clear Tupperware container with a 2 inch square cut out of the lid - no bread 🥖 it attracts birds and ducks just breadcrumbs plenty mixed with sand/weight in the bottom and the mullet usually will only enter the trap when tide is rising so I find the ocean rock pools are the best because I can get them right after low tide in the sea and the estuaries are usually have 3-5 hours of run out left and that’s when the flathead feed in the murky run out water at the bottom half of the run out 👌❤️‍🩹
