    As one of your older viewers (39 years old) I can understand why this footage was emotional for you to watch. But what I saw was a passionate young man who had a dream of being in the olympics and made it a reality which most will never be able to do! As a gymnastics fan and causal participant I found this very inspiring and loved every minute. Honestly wish you all the best and keep putting a smile on our faces via your videos! Train smart, keep it real!!!!!!!!!

    I know your a professional so you will beat yourself up about not achieving that Gold but you got a bronze! Also by doing RUclips you are actually reaching more people and inspiring more people than you ever would have just with the sport alone. You talked about legacy and you are creating a much bigger one this way and making thousands if not millions of people's days who watch your videos, keep up the videos, love to watch them :)

      It's also surprising how far a book, words on a page,. How far that can reach. Deffo worth reading your heroes stories in their own words.
      Bear Grylls blood sweat and tears autobiography is amazing. I reccomend.

    This video is a good reminder, how 2017 Nile was and still is my dream physique

    • @alexcolvill8137
      @alexcolvill8137 2 года назад

      That is a dream physique. If only he ate 10% more food in his prime. Imagine the fully developed Nile of 25years now..
      Funny thing is.. he can still do it. Plenty of people come to peak late.. such as 40/ 50 years old.
      Yes, it's not optimal, yes it's harder.. but impossible... No...
      I watched a documentary about an 80year old grey haired man rock climbing. ' the old man of hoy' a famous VERTICAL cliff face in England. I can't do that or even know anyone that would even imagine it's possible or begin to visualise themselves doing it... but guess what.. it definitely is possible, even at 80.

    I was moved by your message at the end. I want you to know that you’ve inspired me to chase my dream of running a marathon.
    Today I ran 15.5 miles, the farthest I’ve ever run. After dealing with a chronic illness for the last 1.5 years due to Covid- and finally recovering- I’ve been able to take steps toward my fitness dreams.
    Thanks for continuing to inspire people all over the world with your story.

    I’ve always admired gymnasts and how much they do. I know it hurts to not reach a goal such as world/Olympic champion. I also know that sometimes things have to fall apart to show us a new way to live. Huge respect for mens gymnastics. Such control and strength. You are very inspiring.

    Hey Nile, how you doing, I was thinking to join your gymnastics club at Rotherham but it's 2 hours away, I am a retired gymnast due to injuries and trying to get back into gymnastics, I realized how similar our injuries were, same placements (both had a shoulder injury, had a neck injury etc) you have inspired me honestly and got me through lockdown, I used to train similar hours aswell, gone to Lilleshall and honestly enjoyed life whilst I was doing gymnastics, the injuries came and it basically forced me to retire aswell as personal stuff happening, I just wanted to send this in just to show how much you mean to some people, great mentally, amazing person, appreciate all the things that you have done for the Gymnastics Community!

    Don't think about what you could've, should've, and would've done. Look at what you did accomplish. You are a HISTORICAL FACT in the World of Gymnastics and will be mentioned for decades to come. Not a single one of those discussions about, Olympic Gold Medalist, Nile Wilson, will include what you didn't do... They will all be about what you DID do and accomplished at such a young age. You should not have any regrets!

  • @EnkeliJaPerkele

    I feel you. I studied classical music from when I was 11 to 28/29, and then I had to stop playing because I cut a tendon in my finger while doing the f*cking dishes, tried to get back, but I had to accept that I would never be able to get back to the level I was before the accident because even after surgery and a whole load of physio my speed was never going to be the same. It's a tough moment when you have to accept you spent your youth doing something with an objective and that objective sort of gets taken away from you, but the way you dealt with it and bounced back mentally is absolutely laudable. Looking back will always be bittersweet, but you have nothing to recriminate to yourself, and you still got an amazing bronze at the Olympics, and yeah, it might no be a gold, but that still makes you one of the best at what you do in the world. Keep up the good work, and always cherish the good, and let go of the bad, since there's nothing you can do to change it.

    Absolute beast.
    I went to taekwondo as a 15 Year old. (Now 35) got about halfway through (halfway to black, not totally through, obviously, you can go way way higher)
    So I went back a short while ago and asked teacher "Should I start from the beginning, or drop a belt/rank?"
    He said:. "NO, - you EARNED the right to wear THAT colour, you start from there. That grade you took, it's still in you."
    I hope these words reach Nile, plus, anyone else, who might need to hear them. At a low point, you are still amazing & achieved a lot with so much more to come. Just never give up. It's simply THAT easy.
    Get back on the horse as fast as you see right, back on the bandwagon you love so much, the bandwagon you NEED, the bandwagon, which ever person training in whichever sport it may be, (the one that's right, for you),
    pick it back up!, back on the bandwagon and #keepitrolling.
    Have a great day to everyone. X

    Imagining putting so much work and effort into the sport at such a young age is mindblowing. You really need true dedication to do all this in your teenage years. After seeing this video I appreciate the sport even more.
    And I have to agree that by sharing this footage you create more awareness about the work and effort that goes into it than with public performances alone. You have a legacy in gymnastics but you are still building your true legacy by sharing your journey and your life after gymnastics with basically the whole world.
    So thank you for that. You are awesome!

    Massive respect to all the work you put in and sacrifices you made, and yeah you definitely had the talent and potential to become world champion. Honestly, gymnastics competitions have such a huge luck component sometimes, really consistent athletes fall off the apparatus randomly because of whatever reason, the best mess up their execution and allow for other gymnasts to take the medals based on execution, it's a very nerve-wracking sport to watch and I guess even more to do. Also you guys are constantly injured, it's crazy the stress it puts on your body.

    Nobody talks about how you got 8th in the AA - with everyone separated only by tenths, which I realize is normal - but still *8th* in the *WORLD* . . . on that day. On another day it could’ve been better, or worse, that’s sports. Anyway, that’s super impressive. You’re world-class.
    . . . not to mention 4th as a team (which I’m sure stings a bit, but you did beat the US, so that had to feel good 😂) -- as a team: 1st on PH, 2nd on floor, 2nd on HB, 6th on rings and 6th on P-bar. Freaking amazing.

  • @sergioares303
    @sergioares303 2 года назад +1

    It is perfectly normal, i mean, you have been in the highest sport level, something that is extremely hard, so to keep yourself up there, it is compulsory to be in an excellent shape (mentall and physical). You are the one whith knoledge about your body and your feelings and for that, you made the right decission.
    Congrats Nile from Spain.

    Do docs ever test gymnasts for brain injury (cte)? Just askin' cuz I know how hard schools train kids in football (& other sports) in the US and I'm very curious about the subject.

    • @Noname30000
      @Noname30000 2 года назад

      It’s talked about a lot more now,reason why a lot of fighters don’t spar anymore,unnecessary head hits, what really painted the picture is when our Minnesota hockey player boogaard passed away. He was not a good player BUT the best fighter,anyone on ice was intimidated by the giant of a man..well down the road he became more violent and aggressive out of nowhere.ultimately passed away. They did an autopsy and found out he had SEVERE head trauma (cte) from all the years of being an enforcer for hockey teams. And his brains mentality,as in how he acted,was a lot younger than what his actual age was because of all the hits.He wasn’t there to play,he was there to fight.
      Football players made it aware as well but boogaards story really gets the point across. There’s documentary on RUclips about it.

    The fact that you even qualified to go to the Olympic Games is a huge accomplishment especially since you live in a country that has many gymnasts who compete for the honor of going unlike those countries who only have a few people in the various sporting events and they are sent because their the only ones in their country. You are an Olympic gymnast and you earned a bronze medal which is nothing to scoff at. You also metaled in other competitions and I believe you got a gold metal on the high bar. These are all major achievements and shouldn’t be considered less desirable than getting a gold medal. Unfortunately you suffered a number of injuries that shortened your career, but it also took you out of a toxic environment where things happened that shouldn’t have, you developed an eating disorder because of that environment and the rules and expectations that came in the journey to go to the Olympic Games. After your spinal surgery I could see the changes in you and the fear of something else happening that could be worse. I haven’t read your book because I live in the US, but based on comments I have seen I have an idea of what might have happened to you. No one should ever have to go through what more and more athletes are finally exposing what they have been dealing with. It also explains some of the different behaviors and things you started doing after your spinal injury and the affects it had on you and your recovery and return to the sport that was your life. As someone who had multiple spinal cord injuries and surgeries and a spinal fusion C2 down to T3 on 3 sides of my vertebrae with loads of titanium hardware ,that looks like scaffolding, I cringe when I watch you do various skills and shenanigans with your friends because I know what can happen if you get injured. Your story isn’t over, you’re just starting a new chapter in your journey through life. You are a great coach/teacher especially with the younger children because you relate to them and you know the right way to teach and train them to prevent injuries without using some of the ways you were taught and trained. Take your knowledge and use it to help others.
