    I'm tackling a 4 wheel drive version of this on my JD 5625. This helped even though the cylinder is slightly different. I went a little overboard and got a 48" pipe wrench for the job! LOL Headed to the wrench store to get bigger wrenches to get the end links off. Thanks! (Lafayette, LA)

      I'm glad the video helped. There is no such thing as overboard when it comes to tools. We did a front end loader cylinder a year ago and we used a 4 ft pipe wrench, a 4 ft cheater bar, and a 16lb sledge to get the end cap off. Thanks for watching!

      @@Offroadfarm1 LOL...I hear ya! Well, I spoke too soon! It turns out that the huge pipe wrench was needed and welcomed! I fought for hours trying to get those damn end links off, but finally did. The re-ring of the cylinder was a snap. No the hard part is getting the cylinder back in the tractor.

    Where can I get the rebuilt kit for the double ended cylinder

      The kit we used came from John Deere since it was off a John Deere tractor. Thanks for watching

    I've been trying for days to try getting that second one off at 2:20
    Tried gripping those flat bits that you've got in the vise with just about every tool I can think of - including the vise - and all it's doing is warping the flat bits.
    I think I'm going to need to buy a replacement cylinder rod, and ball joint. I should be able to save the cylinder end by cutting the rod in half so it can slide off.

      Have you tried heat? Both of our ends were on there tight!! We were able to get them loosened up with a little heat, don't be afraid to heat them. Use a real torch if you have access to one. Before you cut your rod in half consider taking what you have to someone and seeing if you can pay a shop to get that other end off. A independent shop somewhere would probably only charge you 10 or 20 bucks and be a lot cheaper than a new rod.

      @@Offroadfarm1 Yeah I kept a torch on there for what felt like enough time. I'm going to try again tonight.
      If that doesn't work I'll ask my father in-law if he knows any guys who can do it cheap.
      Finally, if that fails, and if the JD guys are asking too much, then I'll start cutting things up.

      A big adjustable wrench on the end of the pipe wrench gave me the leverage I needed.

    Nice job! I use a pot of hot water to soften those plastic seals up before putting them in.

    We’re the end caps just a press fit or did they unscrew? Got it! 2:00 “Do they just peck off? Yeah.” So- press fit.😊

    • @Offroadfarm1
      @Offroadfarm1  Год назад

      You got it! They just pressed in. They are retained by the bolts that bolt the cylinder to the tractor frame. Thanks for watching!!

    Hey Buddy! To get it out of there did you have to remove the front differential? Or did you just slide it out of the side? About to do this on my cat 420e and assume it’s the same build process

    • @Offroadfarm1
      @Offroadfarm1  2 года назад +1

      I didn't help remove or reinstall this cylinder. I don't even know what model tractor it came out of. I think it was only a 2 wheel drive but I'm not sure. There were 6 bolts holding it on, 3 through each endcap. We are going to have to repair the steering cylinder on our JD 6410 soon. I'll post a video when we get to it. Thanks for watching
