Semifinalists announced: William Ge (so gifted, as are all of the contestants!) Paul Ji Antoni Kleczek Angeline Ma Oliver Moore Anthony Ratinov Karina Tseng Victoria Wong (let's hope for better piano luck in semifinals for all contestants!) Madison Yan William Yang (he played such an amazing Andante Spianato and Polonaise!) Angie Zhang Nathaniel Zhang
All these quarterfinalists have definitely helped me appreciate the preludes much more than in years past. Prior I only listen to Chopin’s waltzes, ballades, polonaises etc. but not anymore.
It would be great to hear Oliver Moore commenting on his embellishments in Op. 9 No. 2. The chat went wild there for a moment. But Ben Laude must have been busy behind the scenes at that particular time - otherwise he would have adressed it in the interview. The commentary and interviews have been excellent all the way through btw.
I have listened to hours of this competition and I think the performers have been wonderful, but I do not like the sound of that piano. It sounds quite harsh on the high notes.
I was there for the first 3 days. In my opinion the American Steinway sounded harsh in the middle register (this might have been fixed by the technician) while the Hamburg sounds great throughout.

Angeline Ma is definitely a finalist; dare I say a prize winner! Incredible! I can only wish to someday play like her
Totally agree.
Incredibly accomplished, highly sensitive pianist.
Yes she deserves at least a final. Some competitors go far too fast on some passages or lengthen the pauses too much in my opinion.

Indeed watching the competition did help me expand my listening repertoire 😁🎉
Complete Préludes is such a fantastic journey.
imo the best polonaise of the week starts right after this Andante Spianato 1:31:27 what a marvel
so colorful!
Couldn’t wait to get there, yawn.
