When you decide to not call the police about someone that just attacked you, you give them another opportunity to do it to someone else...
That's what I always think when stories say the person decided not to call the police. Like why? At least tell them even if they say they don't care!
@Zombie Chicken Exactly. even if they don't take you Seriously, they still have to make a report.
@Sevenland⁷ now the person who didn't report probably has survivor's guilt. I know I would...
@@zombiechicken7114 right it's like he burned down your house and killed your dog, and you decided better let him marry my 12 year old daughter...
Well, maybe the authorities were doing little about it. For example he shot someone in the neck and he was charged with assault, seriously?? Then sentenced to 2 years in prison and only served 1 day in jail and was released on bond. What the heck! I say the bully got what he deserved, he reaped what he had sown.
“That man needed a killing” funniest line 🤣
He sure did 🤣
Sounds like something you’d hear in a Clint Eastwood movie
"The Bully" was such satisfying story, I can just hear the collective sigh of relief from the townspeople.
Agreed. People finally got to go about their lives and sleep at night feeling safe.
I'm dying to know how many other times that sort of thing has happened.
Skidmore didn't have any bullies. A bully would have fought back against Rex.
Apparently they didn't even care about years old girls being sexually abused!
Shame on you for being another "anti-bully" and making the world a better place for pedophiles and psychopaths.
@@themousemage it happens all the time in places where Democrats are in charge.
@@TheNaroCroc they’re calling the abuser the bully. They’re saying they’re glad he died. Don’t really understand why you went political for no reason. If there is one thing almost anyone can agree on, regardless of politics, is that pedos are bad.
"Sorry governor, we all blinked at the same time."
Musta been all them gunshots. Guess we'll never know who done it. :P
lol
Ryan from Buzzfeed Unsolved would’ve said it’s best if the town changed their name and forget its history.
20 second blinls Will get you every time
Luckily one of the witnesses wasn’t that one kid that would remind the teacher about the homework
The term “over my dead body” rings true with the second story. I’d never sign away my daughter, ever. ESPECIALLY to a man like that. What a coward of a father she had.
No LIE! I was like what fucked up mentality is that?? just GIVE your child to her rapist for marriage!? I do not bloody think so!
You can do a lot with a hammer and the element of surprise, especially if he's cockey
Cowardly... turns out threatening a persons ENTIRE family scares them.
Exactly!
I mean, it would have been their dead bodies. Obviously. Then she still would have been with him, just with dead parents & siblings.
What kind of father would let a 40 year old assault then marry their 12 year old girl.. dude would have died way earlier in my town lol
Yeah that was messed up of the father to do. But the bully got what he deserved.
Yeah. Its so fucked up story. I think also in longer video about this story i think it was stated the bully guy also had group of friends who were similar to him so people were also afraid retalition from them. He often went hunting with his buddies. I think the town people should have done something sooner. His child wife wasnt only one of his victims from young girls either
The really messed up part is that he only spent a day in jail. Had he actually had to stay and serve his time, someone in there would of dealt with him fast.
@@WhiplashPuppet the part were the father gave his daughter away to that bully. That's what I was referring to as messed up.
I literally was shaking with anger when I he said that they signed her over. That fact that she returned to the people that gave her to a criminal baffles me
"46 witnesses and none of them changed their stories". Now that's called a loyalty.
It's called doing what they had too. The government showed they wouldn't do anything, so it forced their hand. They put the townfolk in the situation of either kill him, or he's likely to kill at least one of you. Easy decision to make, and easy to keep quiet about knowing it was the only decision you could make. And that nobody who had the balls to follow through with it should have to face punishment for whats arguably a good deed and helps protect your family.
Loyalty? Lmao you know they all had a piece of that action haha.
Loyalty and saving your own ass nobody else talked I'm definitely not saying shit then I won't be the sole culprit to take the blame but I bet even if someone did confess this case would of probably been dropped or his time would be reduced severely everybody would of vouched for him and said they feared the pedo guy
I'd call it righteousness.
That's very good deed they did, before Rex could harm any one once again...Their is saying Union is strength...
When you have that "bad feeling" about someone, listen to it.
Especially when they’re a hitch hiker
These people are infuriating. Strangers in the night????
It’s a horrible situation but the guy really lacked common sense to think giving a guy a ride half way where he needed to go in the middle of the night and stop a block from his house was a good idea.
Damn right!
Never Relax
The crazy thing about the first story is it took 14 yrs to bring Dorothy's killer to justice. The cops thought Charles murdered his own mother until DNA evidence traced the crime to someone else.
He should have called the police asap, his mother could have survived. What was he thinking??
The hole story is sus and we all know feds and police like to plant DNA just to close a case. That guy is most likely innocent and rotting in prison for nothing.
“That man needed a killin’”. Legendary.
Rex "needed a kill'n" the moment he assaulted a 12 year old child.
Rex needed a killing in the womb.
Yea, those people really took their time with that... Like, wtf took them so long?
During Rex mothers pregnancy I would been ok with abortion that despicable human being should of never lived!

The funniest part of the Skidmore story is many of the witnesses stated at the time of the shooting they didn't see what happened because they were inside the tavern playing pool. The tavern only had one pool table. So it became a running joke among investigators that the tavern in Skidmore must have the world's largest pool table.
Gotta watch the game, ya know? I mean really...who doesn't like watching a nice game of pool?
"So you were inside playing pool?"
"Yep."
"With 45 other guys?"
"Mmmyep."

Good movie and book. You go Skidmoore
Rex wasn't murdered, he was rightfully executed.
vigilantism wasn't always the proper thing but was very common during the early history of our great country. In this more modern case, I believe it was the right thing to do. When an evil bully continues to be a threat, there comes a day when they must pay for their sins. The legal system failed. Long live the residents of the now safe town! MT
that story was ridiculous, how is the town completely full of only wimpy people? everyone just lets this disgusting guy essentially openly steal and marry (aka rape) a 12 year old and they loved giving him all their stuff, i think this town of cowards is what created this guy
In my day I've run into few problems that couldn't be solved with a healthy or unhealthy hehe in this case amount of buckshot lol

2nd story, jesus dude. Those citizens were like " Fine, I'll do it myself. ". Props to them tbh, Rex sounded like a freaking monster.
He was filled up with motivation not to do that again.
Get it...
Yeah I actually live really close to Skidmore and know the main suspect of Rex's murderer
There was a made for TV movie done on this event.
Rex was even worse than explained in the video.... Not only that from what I remember about the story he was making threats and talking about how the police wont do shit before being promptly unalived
"For evil to flourish, good men only need to do nothing."
That 2nd story is mind boggling. The fact that the girl’s parents signed a marriage agreement for their 12 year daughter is insane. Let alone the fact that this monster of a person got away with doing so much-I’m so glad the town citizens took it into their own hands and killed him. The fact that there was a federal investigation is ridiculous, the dude needed to die and when nothing is done about it how can you blame people to act? I’m glad no one was ever charged for it. That takes strong willpower and loyalty to band together like that.
Sad thing is, they would have charged someone if one of the witnesses came ford.
Shit, my town mayor makes that guy look like a girl scout.
I doubt much effort was put into the investigation. Doing it more for principle of law, then anything. The investigators putting minimal effort to really get answers out of anyone.
"Everyone said they didn't see a shooter. Must have never been shooter"
My thought too (about the 12 year old). I read into this further and apparently that girl sued the town for the killing of Rex, and won a $17k or so settlement. What a crazy story.
That’s so horrible she was 12 years old! I missed that part damn
Way to go, Skidmore. It's good to see a community come together and provide a valuable public service: trash disposal.
I actually scream “yes” out loud with excitement, when you announced none of the 46 witnesses were charge with murder, great content.

Trina in Skidmore. Wow. I cannot imagine a parent selling their childs life over their own. I hope Trina found peace and self esteem. Wow
As someone who's lived in Missouri almost all of my life, I can assure you... what happened in Skidmore is something that is not unlikely to happen again. 😁
Like there's another terrible person there or the people are willing to defend their own?
Which part? The part where a psycho emerges and terrorizes a town with the police immunity and power of el chapo
Or the part where a whole Missouri town may potentially get together and badassly group murder someone vigilante-firing-squad style and mutually agree to take it to their graves.
Genuinely curious lol

And thank God for that! More large groups of people need to take bullies -- especially $3xual predators -- OUT of power...before they get dementia and executing them is seen as "putting them out of their misery," like what they did with The Golden State Killer. The criminal's body remembers their crimes.

That first story is so sad. You know that poor guy probably blamed himself for his mothers death even though he couldn't have known. Heartbreaking.
What Mr. Ballen didn't mention was that Charles was actually arrested and locked up for his Mother's murder, the police didn't believe his story about the stranger. It was quite awhile before the Gilbert (killer) was captured and Charles was released.
charles is actually my pop pop
Yeah I would definitely call the cops if someone threatened to kill me and chased me with a screwdriver. Not just for me, but to prevent anyone else getting hurt. Seems kinda basic.
Definitely wasn't his fault, but please report it to the police if someone attempts to rob you with a screwdriver please!
It was his fault. If he had just called the police like a responsible citizen they would have caught him before he murdered his mom.
No one is untouchable if you know a good marksman.
I remember seeing the first story on forensic files. Investigators thought for sure Charles did it because the story he told sounded so ridiculous. But some witnesses seen the guy getting into his truck at the restaurant. It took 13 years to find the guy.I can’t imagine the guilt Charles had that he told the guy no but changed his mind.

The scariest thing to hear is “ im with the government and im here to help” -ronald reegan
@@allthingsconsidered3211 what's wild is he said that... then sent a bunch of american government personnel around the world to "help"
@@ATAdude666 not to mention him and the “gun laws”
That's about how it goes. The government doesn't care about anything unless it directly challenges their power. A town bully terrorizing an entire town? Doesn't matter, the rest of the town will keep following the law and paying taxes. An entire town taking the law into their own hands and saving themselves from tyranny? Woah now, we can't have that. It's just a small leap until more people realize the Fed's ARE Rex, just on a much larger scale.
The Skidmore story reminds me of the dangerous dogs that my friend's neighbor had. These dogs had attacked 5 visitors to the house at different times, two even had to go to the hospital for care, and none of them would press charges. The dogs got loose periodically, came to my friends property and would chase her livestock and kill her chickens. One day they came onto her property and tore apart one of her goats while she and had her two small children were out in the yard. When she went to the police they told her that they couldn't really do anything, unfortunately, because it was a civil matter. "But," they told her, "if something were to happen to those dogs on her property, they wouldn't know anything about it."
Our neighbor had dogs that ran loose who would approach and scare other neighbors out for walks. They wouldn’t contain their dogs and the police didn’t seem too concerned about it. I took that as a request for me to solve the problem, and I did. 😉

I love how that whole town came together to handle business their own way to keep their families safe. I wish people these days could wake up and stop fighting with their neighbors, when its the system we should be fighting against together. Love you Mr. BALLEN!!
"the system" ....kind of vague. To be more specific, read the book "Tragedy and Hope" by Carroll Quigley. The author was a Princeton and Georgetown University history professor. Don't skip the introduction by Michael Chadwick.
Couldn't agree more.
My grandma grew up in skidmore and moved to st. Louis county shortly after this incident. To this day she still plays the game of pretending not to know what happened in skidmore. lol

The police could have stopped him if they wanted to. It sounds like they were just as afraid of him so people took the law into their own hands. Funny how the federal government gets involved in the bullys death but did nothing about the obvious upper level corruption that protected Rex. Gets a light sentence and gets bail even though he has a history of violence
I think rex got some good old fashioned justice. Since the law failed at stopping him, the men of the town did. Some things should still be handled like this!!

The first story is so sad. That man must have so much guilt thinking it was all his fault that crazy guy killed his mother 😢
It may be wrong, but that town coming together to deal with their lifelong resident bully is just so wholesome to me. 😂
And that Boston museum art heist is legendary for being one of the most masterfully executed heists of all time. To this day, no one has ever been charged with the crime. To this day, they have no leads or suspects. When you read the actual details, like how they immediately went to specific pieces of art indicating extensive planning, left no DNA or fingerprints, the ruse of the cop, and the fact that the art has never surfaced again anywhere on earth, well, as far as crimes go, it’s pretty impressive. Wrong yes. But impressive. 😂

@@AliagaAyin Its a different time, when people think raped or molested daughters will be better getting married to the perp to restore her honor.
Incredibly, there are some folks that condemned it. Not surprisingly his wife and some of their kids as I'm sure they were conditioned to do so. That lawyer of his was scum of the earth. If you havent seen it already, you should check out "In Broad Daylight". Documentary series about it.
@@mannylugz5872 that's how my mom treated it. I tried to make my rapist my boyfriend, her idea. He didn't want to be my boyfriend. She didn't call it rape. The bully story is remarkable, truly a joy everytime it is told. Its very easy for people to hurt or betray one another, but for one monumental event fourty six people with fourty six guns stood together in solidarity against someone who had raped, kidnapped, tortured and haunted everyone in the town. And not one of them wavered. THAT is truly amazing.
Yes yes indeed!!! 🙌 solidarity ❤️

The sad part is no one believed him that the random guy he picked up and attached him killed his mom. So they investigated him for a long time and even his family doubted him until they caught the man and he confessed to the crime. It was so sad
Mr. Ballin. You Sir, truly are THE MAN I do enjoy your stories. Your skills at oration is second to none.
From the 1st case I think everyone needs to emphasize how important it is to report any assault/murder attempt or crime, anything, to the police, even if you didn't get hurt, because someone else will...
Exactly! ... And served Charles right that that someone was his mother.
These days though you have to think carefully before calling the police on people of a certain color though. Even if they are behaving inappropriately you could easily wind up the next "Karen". Though I agree he should have called the cops.

I don’t know what’s so addicting about these videos, but it’s impossible to stop watching them.
The second story is like some Wild West story of a town standing up for itself and I love it.
Roadhouse
Thats the way it should be everywhere
That doesn't surprise me since it was a very small town in Missouri. Shit gets wild in those small towns.
That “Bully” story was so damn satisfying.....
I want a Martin Scorsese version of this now.
Buzzfeed Unsolved did a really good video about it
We need the Boondock Saints 3 with that story
While I agree, I'm confused as to how people let it go on for so long. There was no mention of him having a gang of underlings, or the police in his pocket for some reason, or he was the son of a crime boss. I mean what the hell? He's one dude. His ass should have been 6ft under a long time before that. And I don't accept the reason being He's a big scary dude because as the conclusion of the story showed us, there's strength in numbers.
It's a good story. Mr. Ballen telling it makes it even better.
Woulda gladly been a part of rexs "murder mob"😂😂
I first started listening to the stories out of curiosity, but now I say Mr. Ballen is the best storyteller of this century
love how the whole town came together and didn’t change their story. Rex sounded like a horrible man.

That dude did a whole hell of a lot worse then killing dogs.
They made a movie about it. I think its called The Town That Feared Sundown. Im not positive of the name.

When we were younger, my friend’s father told us the following. . . “Do not bother calling me if you have been arrested for stealing. You know better. Do not bother calling me if you have been arrested for DUI. You know better. However, if you have been charged with murder, I will accept that call because sometimes a man just might need killing.” I guess Skidmore received that same advice lol
Lol good advice,

it's a funny anecdote but like, your dad could foresee a circumstance where you may have to kill someone, which he was cool w/ but couldn't imagine one where you may have to steal?
@@doublefeature He sounds like the kind of father that would make sure his children never went without, no matter how old they were. And as long as you have food and a roof over your head, why would you have to steal?
Hearing the town take care of that town bully was satisfying. More of this kind of justice needs to start happening.I hate these criminals that feel they are smart enough to keep their terror going.
Wonderful Story Teller! Gripping! 👏👏👏
I see a lot of comments stating Trina was defending him in the documentary, people have to remember she was 12 when this guy physically assaulted her several times, emotionally tormented her, terrorised her & her family & was then given to him to torment some more. All those years of emotional & physical abuse changes a person, especially when it starts at such a young age. Reminds me of Stockholm syndrome. Tragic rly!
Tbh, if I was her, I wouldn't be jumping to help out the people who sold me to my rapist for the sake of their own comfort. As well, his contempt for them probably had rubbed off on her, with good reason from her perspective.
What’s the name of the documentary If you could tell me

I watched a video a while back of a behaviorist that evaluated the case. He said she was heavily groomed in the beginning, threatening the life of her family at an early age, and then, her own child later on. She was conditioned to do whatever he wanted because of his threats starting so early. She was a child putting her life on the line for her family. That poor girl, I couldn't imagine.

What was sweeter was that they didn't kill him immediately. Made him feel how his victims felt.
The girl’s parents that married her off to her attacker in the second story were also monsters. You’d have to kill me, no way would I betray my child like that.
Most people say they would have resisted the Nazis, but the fact is, most people are afraid to sit at a lunch table with a a different crowd of people because they hate even the faintest possibility of violent confrontation that much. As Jordan Peterson says, "People just aren't that brave." If you throw in guns and a strong physical man/ a man who has proven himself legally powerful and is impulsively cruel and instantaneously thinking up of wicked things, and heck, throw in the fact that he'll turn his attention to your other kids, and has just very publicly burned down YOUR house and killed your dog, and there will be NOTHING the police or anyone can do about it, who really knows. You'd need to choose to become murderer in their case. I like to think I'd make that choice too, or fight until he kills me, or until I've taken away too much from him to make it worth it, but I try not to judge, since you and I are likely just like everyone else: not as brave as we think.
@@johnhein2539
Never underestimate the love and protective instinct of a mother or father. It supercedes ALL else. Most parents would gladly risk or sacrifice their own lives to save their children. ❤❤❤
@@johnhein2539 that's a beta attitude. Take some martial arts, get your pistol permit and take some gun training courses. Turn those into hobbies and you won't fear confrontation. I was a scared kid that couldn't fight so I enrolled in classes. The first time you knock your bully out is ths last time you are bullied. The confidence you get from knowing how to defend yourself spreads to all aspects of your life. You don't fear a job interview when you regularly engage in combat you enjoy. You don't fear setting people straight because you know you'll be in control of the situation if something should arise. It is literally not in human nature to cower. Modern humans are only weak because we have the ability to avoid confrontation and call the police. A couple hundred years ago you couldn't, we waged wars with swords and killed each other in the most intimate ways (face to face so you saw the life leave your enemies). We defended our families and homes for 99% of our history as humans with our own hands. Jordans outlooks only apply to humans of the last couple hundred years. It isn't normal for us to be so weak and that's why when we start combat training we adapt immediately. Humans have the unique ability to train our fight our flight response into fight at all times. Jordan isn't god he isn't right about everything. Why do you think the military can take almost anyone and turn them into a killing machine. They tap into our most primitive instincts and make us into killers.
@@johnhein2539 idk what bullshit you’re spewing out but myself and 90% of other caring fathers would go to extraordinary lengths to lodge a knife right beneath his chin and intruding into his brain. You never know what the man next to you is capable of. Everyone is capable of doing unimaginably cruel things. History has already taught us that.

Yes. Always listen to your God given Sixth Sense. You may never learn what the danger was, afterward, but rest assured, *something* bad would've happened.
