    Two words : Great RESPECT. No Land Rover garage can do this. They can only replace, and certainly not a complete engine overhaul.

    • @pistonbroke
      @pistonbroke 2 года назад +8

      They don't do it because of the time it takes and the cost of parts. On a warranty job JLR want the old engine back. When I worked at a main dealer, on a training course, they said the engine is "black box" meaning we were not allowed to strip it. JLR at that time didn't sell any internal components either so we couldn't rebuild it even if we wanted to.

      @@billytremoloband7456 yeah, I'd never go back to a landy main dealer. They are a pig to work on and you have ridiculous time constraints in which to do the job. It's no wonder so many shoddy repairs come out of main dealers.

    It was everything I could do to watch these two videos as I’m terrified of losing my engine.
    I’ve owned my disco 3 for nearly thirteen years now and I’ve been the only owner. I love her as much today as I always have. I change my oil ever six months and I’m very sympathetic to engines.
    If I do lose my engine I’ll be bringing her to you in Germany 🇩🇪.
    I’m very impressed with your videos and your knowledge, I also love your sense of humour.

      Thank you. I think your engine is never going to fail. It’s 60% driving behavior, 30% maintenance and 10% luck. I’ve seen well maintained TDV6 engines fail but yours will not. Yes, you can bring it over if it does fail. Christian

I personally do not own one, having a mitsubishi pajero tr4 and a hyundai santa fé, but enjoy watching your videos and learn very much with each one. Christian and Vera, you got my full respect! Great work, love in details and very good documented by your videos. Only one single remark. Sometimes I see, if I am not wrong so please correct me if yes, that you are working below the vehicle with the hydraulik jack only. Without any other security measure. Please use professional vehicle supports. Accidents will happen always in the moment when you feel too sure with what you are doing, ignoring the basic security measures. It would be a real drama if one of these jacks is loosing oil. Be careful. You are showing a real professionality on the restoring of this engine, apply this also on your security measures. But Great job!!!

    You are amazing: Your rebuild espisodes helped me rebuild my LR3 TDV6 from scratch and now it runs like a dream. I had a bought a Disco 3 having the whole engine in pieces and nuts and bolts; previous mechanic dismantled whole engine to rebuild it then previous owner decided to sell it as it was because he could not afford to finish the project. So i bought it that way, all engine pieces disassembled by another mechanic piled up in a huge box; im a very mechanical guy; ive done lots of engine rebuilds including a couple of BMW N62, V8 engines but never even seen a TDV6 before until this time. I was armed with only a downloaded pdf manual and your RUclips video episodes. I did it from scratch to finish and it fired up just fine. Replaced bearings, pistons and rings, did a valve job and reused same crankshaft only polished it; still on standard. All the way from south africa.

    What a journey guys! Absolutely fantastic job! I wish I had the benefit of your channel when my Disco 3 broke it's crankshaft about seven years ago. Maybe I'd still be driving a Land Rover and not a Ford Ranger🤣

    The joy that must've flowed inside all parties involved upon the first engine start is the kind of joy reserved for very specific occasions within one's life. Congratulations and hell of a job! I'd take an apprenticeship under Christian any day although I don't think he'd like me being very on his way that often. Congrats again!

    I thought the body needed to come off for an engine swap? Great channel! You are both brilliant.

      On a LR3 Diesel, it can be done through the bonnet but takes longer and is painfull. Body off is much easier but requires a lift obviously. Thanks. Christian

      @@Vera_and_Christian interesting thanks. Wondering if I want to live with the odds of one of these failures. Is it less common on the 2.7?
