I'm beyond shocked. And happy and thrilled. I bought a share in this horse as an unproven yearling. Now he's a Preakness champ
My friend owns shares too! We saw him as a baby in Florida @ the myracehorse previews. We both liked him & had high hopes for him.

They better retire him soon after this...he's not bred for soundness but I do wish the horse the best in future races. I wouldn't send him beyond this distance. He might get a mile and a quarter at Saratoga but not at Belmont Park. i would save this horse for the Breeder's Cup Dirt Mile.

@@kf91274 Anything by Arrogate is unsound and does not last long on the track. Unbridled's Song..his sire....was a very unsound horse. Maple leaf Mel had that Arrogate breeding and she broke down during a race in horrific fashion. Research and check out all his foals that raced...see how long their careers were. All unsound. Seize the Grey does not have many races left in him....trust me...he doesn't. His bloodlines say so.
@@NalaRichenbach Maple leaf Mel was probably the worst thing in hirse racing history in a long time since eight bells. But I don't think you can simply point that towards genetics. How many foals and colts are running or have run that the big A sired are sound or haven't broke down? Many more than that have.

@@tomdooley8917 I am glad he did it at this stage of his life. Back in the 1980s and 1990s, he seemed to win everything in sight, especially the Breeders' Cup races. He and the late owner/breeder Gene Klein were everywhere then.

Amazing run by Seize the Grey, held the lead throughout the race. Time 1:56.82. Secretariat's time 1:53.2/5. Still undefeated in 51 years.

Liberal Arts is also out of Arrogate, I think. He started running in the same races as Seize the Grey. I thought he would be a Derby horse, but come 2024, and Liberal Arts has not gone forward.

1:49 Mystik Dan was trailing anyway but lost any chance here, not sure what happened, he got turned almost too much into Seize the Grey's legs/path and had to noticeably change course, losing momentum
agreed, but i think he was gonna come up just short anyway. The winner had an absolutely perfect trip.
Very similar trip to Arkansas Derby which I didn't think was good and had a nearly identical result.
He didn't get into Seize the Grey's path, his jockey was switching to the outside to make a run when he realized there was not going to be an opening on the rail
Man Grey runs so rough out of the gate, was not expecting that win. Great job!
I knew he likes the slop, knew who he was and what his numbers were. Took the trainer into account as well. Long story short, I bet him to win.

What a training job to get this horse good enough to win like this. Win the Pat Day Mile as the prep for this, that race had a 44:4 half mile, total different pace 47:2 and surface, but the horse just cruised a long and still had kick left in the stretch

Yes, and that was at a mile while Dan was running 1 1/4 miles. Still, only 1 horse has a chance at a Triple Crown so I understand why McPeek and the owners decided to run.
@@pokerface8242They almost got it if not for this big grey horses stamina. Winning 2/3 would have been an amazing achievement but no way Mystik Dan was going to win the belmont

Surprised Dan lost? No. He had the best trip in a huge field in the Derby. That’s how it goes in the Derby. The horse was 18-1 for a reason in the Derby. Surprised Seize the Gray won? No. I remember being burned by Oxbow and Lukas in the Preakness years ago and I’d be damned if that was going to happen again. And like Oxbow, Gray took it wire to wire. Good to know and remember your history.
Love the owners control to his feelings , that's a solid champ in life. He's stone cold and he won a huge race. My kind of human 😎😎😎
