Thanks Rabbi Golub for your time and teaching. This is an amazing teaching. I am so grateful for your support. I'm come from a Sephardic decendant and had lost my heritage because of the Inquisition of Spain, and I have struggled with this topic. I thought that becoming a nun and leave the world was the way of the world of evil. I am deeply grateful for you and my Jewish family whom I thought had lost. But my prayers are always for the return of my family all over the world as Hashem have promised. I can see it coming soon. B"H

I have enjoyed and learned so much from Jewish 101, thank you. Only speaking from my experiences in Christian religious services for the past 30 years (Baptist, Church of Christ, Methodist, Catholic, Christian Church) but I had never heard of "sex" as the original sin. It was disobedience as far as I knew. In all the sermons and teachings I have sat under in a Christian setting Adam and Eve were considered married and therefore could enjoy all the benefits of married people including sex so it would not have been any type of sin for them to engaging in this marital act. Just wanted to put that out there, although I am curious as to where this idea of sex being the original sin actually came from ie: written text reference of course. I will research. Again, thanks so much for your program ❤

This is a heavyweight subject due to the proximity to self identity mixed with millennia of cultural taboo.
Thank you for opening a discussion with this teaching from a Jewish viewpoint. Even if the general public cannot approximate a hearing of your words, it is still right thing to share this teaching thank you for your bravery and your wisdom

Maya van Vlimmeren It's just old gnostic/wicca teachings. Sex ritual is witchcraft (that's why it's practiced by Wiccan/Satanists). If there's no separation between body/spirit, then it means we ourselves can learn to be gods (gnostic teaching). Also as far as sleeping with animals, that's a unique Jewish thing. It's a heresy and blasphemy because it breaks Gods own laws which were created before the universe. This is basic stuff that the Rabbi's should have understood. But it demonstrates that lack of spiritual understanding from a lot of the Talmud authors. A truly God fearing great Rabbi would never, ever, talk about Adam sleeping with all the animals because *that* is how sin would have entered the world. This is very basic stuff.

While Christians are very against sexual immorality, there is no Christian I know of who believes the original sin is a sexual sin. They see the original sin is disobedience. Which I agree with. Christians don’t believe that sex is bad. Sex is a gift given by god. In genesis, before the fall, god brought Eve to Adam and they “became one in the flesh”. To Christians, this meant sex, and marriage. sex is marriage. To sleep with someone is to marry them, to become one in the flesh. This was before god even told them not to eat of the fruit of the tree.
Sex is a gift by god. The songs of songs are all about how beautiful and pleasurable sex is and is meant to be. God says to Adam and Eve, later to Noah and his wife “be plentiful and populate the earth”. God wouldn’t tell his creation to sin, if sex was a sin.

  • @romanhuczok1474

I am a Catholic. We do not believe that the apple in the Garden of Eden was a euthamism. We believe that God took man to the Garden of Eden and said that he could eat from any of the fruits etc in the Garden EXCEPT the fruit from the tree of knowledge. This was a literal fruit on a literal tree. Satan then came to Eve in the form of a serpent and told her to eat from the tree of knowledge. She did, and shared the fruit with Adam. This fruit caught in Adam's throat, hence 'Adam's apple'. The original sin was that Adam and Eve did what Satan told them to do, rather than what God told them to do. The fact that they could be tempted meant that their descendents could also be tempted. This was the fall. The original sin now does not present itself as guilt but as a potential to do wrong. Humanity is often cruel to its neighbour for no reason, before the fall humanity would not be at all inclined to such action (but could still have been tempted towards it). In summary: original sin was not sexual in nature. We Christians do not believe that sex is a sin, unless extramarital.

You fooled me at first because you were explaining cristianity so well! This is not how I, as a Christian, was taught about the original sin and the "fall of man" from Paradise. Original sin was disobedience.
When God put Adam and Eve in the garden and God forbid them to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, that could well be a euphemism or it could be literal. Remember there was also a Tree of Life which they could eat from to achieve eternal life. The reason they were thrown out of Eden was so they could NOT eat of the Tree of Life - because once they sinned, once they disobeyed God, they could no longer be in the presence of God (could no longer live in Paradise - a permanent state of existence - were sin did not exist). Was the Tree of Life a real tree or another euphemism? We don't know. There are other trees spoken of in Heaven.
But, original sin was disobedience - not sex. Satan told them that if they "ate of the fruit" of knowledge, they would be like G-d. Gen 3: 5 "For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." Satan himself wanted to be like G-d, remember? He is the prince of the earth ! He challenged G-d as the object of worship. HE wanted to be worshipped. He wanted Yeshua to worship him. He wanted G-d's creation to turn from G-d and follow HIM (Satan) and all his minions. He wanted to defeat G-d.
If sexual intercourse was considered a sin, why were they told to be "fruitful and multiply" ? Why were they created with sexual organs?
    Sex with a serpent / animal? That's preposterous !

I was born and raised in a christian familly and I think that this message is a bit missleading as it comes to explanation of chsitianity's attitude to sex. It is not true whatsoever that christianity considers sex as something bad, sinful and unholly in general.
In christianity, just sa in judaism, sex between husband and wife is something divine and sacred. Something that has been given the blessing and power of God - to give life, to create a new life. Only "casual" sex and lust are sinful.

I’m open to teachings in Judaism but please don’t make up stuff. Do thorough research before you make broad statements about Christianity. I was looking forward to your teaching but you just lost me in 5 minutes. So disappointed.

I have been enjoying learning on the Jewish tradition and have greatly appreciated you sharing this with the world. I would only say with all respect that maybe it would be best to stick with explaining Judaism and not Christianity. The Christian interpretation of the the text is not that sin was the original sin and fall of man. It was the disobedience of eating the one fruit God strictly forbid. It wasn't sex but disobedience that was sin. Also, sex isn't looked down upon in the Christian tradition. It is blessed and a sacred act between husband and wife. We can totally have sex on any day of the week we want. Also, Jesus's death on the cross wasn't about sex. He was the fulfillment of all of the law and the prophets. He was the perfect passover lamb who takes on the sin of the world. He is the great high priest and mediator between man and God. He is Isaiah 53 and the long awaited messiah. Shalom.

  • @libertytree3209

Rabbi, I think you are interpreting certain Christian traditions as ALL Christian traditions. I grew up in solo scriptura, it does not teach original sin to have anything to do with sexual intercourse. It has to do with disobedience to God. We were never taught that. In fact we were taught it had nothing to do with that at all. Now in the Catholic church, they had that tradition. The problem with the world is they WILL twist Scripture because they do that - and you know that very well. It IS about sin, however - man just can't do what God tells him to. No matter what God says, man will disobey. I think that is a theme.

So he says Adam and Eve was intended to be a sex story but Jews do not interpret it as such. But then fails to mention how Jews view Adam and Eve and their banishment from Eden. Instead he launches in to how much Jews in general love sex. Side note: I grew up Catholic and never realized the sexual euphemism of this story from Genesis. Mind blown lol. But I’d still like to know how Jews interpret the story. Google has no straightforward answers

Sex was not the sin. Disobedience was the sin. God performed the first marriage and God blessed them. God did not marry Adam and then limited or denied him the ability to have sexual relationship with his wife. God blessed them and said be fruitful and fill the earth. Adam and Eve have filled the earth, but mankind is still Disobedient to god.
