My 80-year old father started sharing with me about his enjoyment in watching your videos. He asked me if I’ve heard of “Itchy Boots.” My perplexed facial expression informed him I was not [familiar]. He then explained some of the obstacles Noraly faced in the episode he just watched, along with several more adventures, and then an Itchy Boots history lesson. He piqued my interest to the point I watched a few episodes and now I am obsessed as well. This has led to a new common bond for my father and me to share. Considering the age gap, cultural changes in society, technology, etc., and the fact he is deaf (we use sign language to communicate, not just hearing loss due to his age), finding new experiences for the father/daughter bond is rare indeed. When my father and I talk about Itchy Boots, it’s as if his entire being is smiling and beaming from head to toe. Therefore, thank you Noraly for sharing your journey.

Hey thanks😎and Greetings from Germany. My dear Friend and Neighbor for 12years died last year... She was 93. And I always tried to cheer her up, especially when she lived in nursing home at the end. A very good way is to send letters or post. Bc nobody does that any more. I am a Carpenter and hobby wood turner, and had a little woodshop with my Lathe in her late husband's garage. So I made her a bunch of spinning tops, and in the evenings we sometimes would sit in her kitchen, playing with them on a tray..
Good memorys. I guess what I wanted to say is this: you could make some Screenshots and arrange them online for some Itchy boots Postcards. then send her one every week. I know this would be fun for you both! Sharish the time you have together! 😉😀👍

My sense of history perspective or horizon was re-calibrated when I went to Iceland and stopped briefly at the farm Drangur where reportedly, Eiric Rauthi (Eric the Red) killed someone and fleeing justice took ship westward and discovered Greenland. That was about the year AD 950. Also, the hot pool at the front door of Snorri Sturluson's house; he wrote the sagas in or about AD 1130 and the stone-lined pool is still there and the water is very hot. So is the semi-buried sod house but of course the sod will have been rejuvenated many times since then.

    • @sjoerdbakker6040
      @sjoerdbakker6040 2 года назад +1

The letter carriers of course are driving a car or a pickup truck for a stipulated daily payment and it would add up to a fortune in fuel and many hours to deliver the few letters and more advertising mail to the remote ranch houses which may be twenty or more km from the main road .
These rows of many mailboxes are also common at the entrances to mobile home parks to simplify life for the mail deliverers . Many remote ranchers solve their mail reception by renting a post office box in the nearest small town and go pick it up maybe once a week . Most will have internet connection now so it is not greatly urgent business in the mail . An added factor is the proliferation of city people moving out into backcountry rural settings in order to " be off the grid " or to " work remotely " at an office job .Others see it as an escape and survival strategy to prepare for the social upheaval and anarchy they fear is coming . Houses are popping up in the unlikeliest locations so when a forest fire or range fire erupts out of control they often enough get burned out .

I grew up on the divide in the Rockies in Canada. It was always fascinating to me because on both sides of the divide in this area there are several lakes thus rivers flowing out from them. The lake that backs right up to the divide on the east side has a river flowing towards the east and the lake immediately next to it, but on the west side of the divide has a river coming out of it that flows west. Yet unless one was cognizant of that fact, they would never know they just crossed the continental divide.

You're in my part of the world now-- Welcome!! One thing I noticed (again)in today's video is that in western states especially (where there are long distances between towns) people tell you how much TIME it will take to get somewhere instead of miles/km. You don't hear "it's 100 miles to so-and-so"; you hear "it's an hour and half from here to there". Sometimes 50 miles might take an hour and a half, sometimes 150 miles will take that same time. REALLY IMPORTANT-- don't pet or take selfies with the bison, moose, elk, wolves, or bears (LOL) !!!!! Each year some visitors in national parks walk right up to very large WILD animals then can't understand when they end up in the hospital after being attacked...unbelievable. Safe Travels. ENJOY the scenery and western hospitality!!

Колорадо - какое суровое место! И снег, и холод, и пожары... И люди, живущие там самые лучшие - с характером(в хорошем смысле). И Голландец, действительно молодец!

It's not sad to see burned forest, it is a critical part of the natural cycle. The aspen groves you have been admiring during recent episodes are a result of fires that occurred in the past. Now, seeing someone's home burned is very sad indeed. Love your channel!

Thank you for stating that. Fire is natures way of restarting life. Not enough humans know that it is a necessary fact of life for nature

Seen plenty of green mountains become barren wastelands forever because of repeated fires. The sight is indeed devastating thinking of all the beauty there once was. It's not as simple as you state it. Those places in the video won't be green again for at least 10 years.

I find it very sad to see what is happening in the western United States and Canada as more and hotter fires consume a historically unprecedented expanse of forests and even the majestic saguaros here in the deserts of Arizona where those plants are not fire adapted. Drought, rising temperatures, and the infestation of opportunistic insects have weakened trees and the resilience of entire ecosystems so much that the relatively predictable cycle of burning and regrowth is no longer a given. The consequences of these hotter fires is becoming evermore apparent as nearby cities and communities are forced to contend with the resulting erosion and flooding. Further away from home, even Arctic permafrost is thawing and burning and blanketing Siberian cities and villages in smoke.

I loved seeing this episode Noraly. Having been a student in Boulder Colorado from 1987 to 1989 have visited Netherland CO many times by motorbike, ring up the Boulder canyon. Being from Norway I also got to meet the "famous frozen guy" s grandson. He is really a colorful character. Too bad the pass through Rocky mountain national park was closed. It is a great ride through there.

Wow, what a great ride for you Noraly with the good dirt roads, fantastic scenery and all those bison. Then the nice conversation with the lady at the saloon was the icing on the cake. Love from Tennessee.

If you encounter any Bison close up and personal, try hard to keep some distance between you and them. You mentioned Yellowstone and there are huge herds of them there. They are unpredictable and surprisingly quick for a beast that size. The only clue of impending trouble from one is the tail arching upwards into a crescent shape. Look out if you ever see one do that.

They can and do. Wreck cars. Elk and Moose also. Deer are skittish. And are afraid of people. The others aren't. On a motorcycle be aware of deer. If they are on the road , cover brake and go behind them . I have been a driver in all those areas. And motorcycles full time. Some areas. Even I have deer on the road every morning .

At 10:00 there is a sawhorse fence thing. I smacked that with the RV trying to do a u-turn earlier this year trying to go the same route to get across the park. Tore off my grab handle on the passenger side. It had to have been within a couple days of Noraly being there! Now my wife and I know why the road was closed, not just snow but a big rock. Small world.

The letter boxes are usually at the end of a side road, particularly one that is a dead end. Saves the post service guy having to double back. Its fairly common in the remote areas in NZ. I used to have eight outside my school and the kids would take the mail home.
