Full episodes of Cunk are better because of context. She is wonderful. Cunk on Shakespeare or Cunk on Christmas are a good start. (Both on RUclips)
Definitely needed more context on some of these
definitly full episodes are the way to go
Yes. this is just the punchlines out of context. The jokes are better in the storytelling.
Yes! Full episodes!
Cunk on America and Cunk on Britain.
She's like the Ali G character but in Philomena's case, the guests know they will be in a comedy show, they just don't know what she will ask.
I love all her videos :)
No thanks. I'm nobodies servant, especially a fantasy character.@user-tn8uu2cu8g
@user-tn8uu2cu8gi invite you to bow down to jelly monster…master of all jellies and wobbly stuff. All you need to say is “ oh great jelly monster, make thee wobbly in the name of jelly!!!
@user-tn8uu2cu8g I'm not in the mood for committing a perjury, so I say: I bear witness that there is no god.
Sacha Baron Cohen that's his name..He played Borat too :)
What!? They omitted her absolute best moment: "King Arthur Came a Lot". Like all her best moments, the reaction from the expert is what makes it so great.
Just looked for it and came out just as bewildered as the interviewee. Also came across the one with Elvis, with the other kind of reaction, I mean if they did see his penis, they would probably have a stroke, which is no laughing matter.
“Do you like ABBA?” Dead serious guy “I love ABBA” 😂 best ever 😂
She is an actress who created the character of Philomena Cunk for a BBC series and it took off. She has done many different series since. The people she interviews (now) know that she's making parody, but they have no idea of what she's going to ask. The crew-cut guy in the suit jacket is my favorite interviewee, he's really game.
Just a minor correction, she didn’t create the character she auditioned for it, Charlie Brooker created the character but it’s thanks to Diane that we get the deadpan Bolton delivery that makes it
@vaudevilleUK her first bit for tv didn’t really work. I’m not sure who wrote it. It was a parody of 70 bbc tv. But it was way too dry.
@user-tn8uu2cu8g Philomena Cunk also did an episode where she talked about Islam. You should watch it. 😉
@@iwanttocomplain I don't remember that... sounds like Look Around You. The first bits she did as Philomena Cunk was as a 'reviewer' on Charlie Brooker's Wipe series along with Barry Sh*tpeas (trying to avoid RUclips deleting the comment). Definitely not 70s style.
@user-tn8uu2cu8gplease go away,
Diane's sincere, deadpan delivery is, at times, fall off your chair funny. I think she is one of the best comedic actresses out there. Don't know what she is currently involved with, but you can bet it's funny.
She has also been in the recent Ricky Gervais comedy /drama 'after life' 👍
She is hilarious.
@@IsleofskyeGeorge Carlin talking about God and Joe Pesci 🙏
@@James-hd6ez I pray to Joe Pesci that they don't turn out to be the same person:)
@user-tn8uu2cu8g Flying horse. Enough said.
Oh do more please. She's fantastic!
You are the only reactor that has picked up on the Richard the fifth reference, well done
Yes she an actress who plays the character. She does the Colbert and Baron-Cohan thing where she stays in character when interviewing people (usually experts in some field). They put up with her because they do know it's for a comedy show, and are told to talk to her as if she's a child.
She is gold. I have no idea how she keeps a straight face.
I love the "perfect way to cheer up a world worried about climate change and dwindling recources"...Love it! :D
Philomena is a character the comedian is playing. The experts being interviewed know she's joking but they don't know what she's actually going to say. Her show is great. Highly recommend.
The actress is Diane Morgan. Philomena is a character that came from a satire news review show by Charlie Brooker, creator of Black Mirror. If you can find it, her best role is in Motherland, a comedy about a bunch of mums who know each other from dropping their kids off at school. A collection of idiots picking on each other in a very British way. It's ace 😅
Her dry British humor is epic! They are all funny, but her one on Shakespeare - oh man. So many funny lines in that one.
"Turns out he was just more than a bald man who could write with feathers."
"Only slightly more sophisticated than trees." . . .
Romeo and Juliet about two lovers from different families......... So we know they weren't from Norfolk.
Charlie Brooker writes Cunk on... Cunk is played by actress Diane Morgan. Cunk was originally a character on Charlie Brookers Screen Wipe. They developed the character further and give her her own series.
Brooker also wrote Black Mirror, Nathan Barley, and lots of other funny stuff.
It would be worth checking out more stuff of British satirist, Chris Morris, who co-wrote Nathan Barley with Brooker. Brass Eye and The Day Today from the 90s are good choices.
Gervais started on The Day Today. He was a roving reporter, just playing himself as always. There was another comedian that looked much stronger than Gervias but his routine wasn’t as convincing, even though he was the more proficient comedian at that time. His career sadly stalled there.
Ahh, even if the series ended afew years ago, I really want them to bring Charlie Brooker's Weekly Wipe back.
Kudos to the interviewees, keeping a straight face while Diane Morgan does her stuff...she's bloody funny!
There were three gifts, but the number of wise men is never mentioned.
In a time when so many people seem proud of their ignorance it's refreshing to see someone that actually knows things and actively engaged in learning more. You are a delight......a beacon of light in a darkening world
Cunk on Earth is fantastic. It's sad there's only like six episodes. And yes, please react to more of these.
I've only just come across your channel, and I could not be happier about the range of your content. Instantly subscribed.
And you're right, the name Richard has not been used by a British king since the death of Richard III. in 1485.
The most likely instance you would encounter a Richard IV. is in the first season of the comedy series Blackadder, played by the amazing Brian Blessed.
😂😂 😂 “having this conversation with Brian cox somehow makes it better” . very good 😂👌
You ever see someone on the Internet and wish there were more of them.. yea... This is that moment. Intelligence, education, wander, and wisdom is truly beautiful. Keep learning you beautiful soul.
Your energy is so radiant and palpable in this reaction. Good stuff :)
find her alongside Ricky Gervais in "After Life". Highly recommand.
Ahh carl pilkington, haven't heard that name in a while. He's basically too much of a genius for any of us to comprehend.
🤣👍
Carl ???????
Literally. Can’t go a day without a dose of the genius that is Karl Pilkington
You really have to watch full episodes. And I think you will love this show. It’s so absurd, and it’s filled with history. 😂
I like how you understand this humor. Breath of fresh air to me. Subscribed.
The Cure were pretty much contemporaries of New Order, and what was memorable about them (in fact, they're still around) was their split personality of dark, gothic post-punk and incredibly melodic and even joyous pop.
Diane Morgan plays Philomena Cunk. She is a comedian and actress. She featured in Ricky Gervais' brilliant series After LIfe, as well as many other.
Great comedian. Her real name is Diane Morgan. How any of the people she talks to do not burst out laughing, and maintain composure make it even funnier
Thanks for this typically Dry and deadpan British humour:)
I am glad you had no prior knowledge of this character because she surprises everyone, initially.:)
More, please.
Bew Order: Blue Monday from Manchester.
Yep, she's a spoof presenter. That master chef judge is Jay Rayner, a UK food critic. I'm pretty sure all of the experts know the score and are asked to keep a straight face and answer the questions.
Son of Agony Aunt:The Late Claire Rayner..
I have the utmost respect for all of her guests on this show. The were all brilliant and most had a fantastic sense of humor.
If you have not reviewed it yet. Dave Allen - "Teaching Your Kid Time" - '93 is a great skit. As an adult watching it , the difficulties I had learning to read a clock face make so much more sense. Loved your reaction to Philomena Cunk. Definitely worth watching full episodes.
You need to see the full episodes, She's brilliant 🥴👍
Philomena is the character and she's the absolute best
For more comedy and history I recommend the historical sitcom "Blackadder".
As for pop recommendations: The Undertones -Teenage Kicks, from Derry, Northern Ireland. The song is one of the best pop punk records of all time, much celebrated by the BBC. This week a huge wall mural was unveiled in Derry marking 45 years since it was released
She's hilarious and playing a character. She plays on another series. I forget what it's called. I think the other character maybe Debbie or something.
I think it was called Charlie Brooker's Screen Wipe. That's the first show I saw her in anyway
“Mandy”.
Musically, try finding Tim's Listening Party online, a UK radio programme with The Charlatans Tim Burgess. Interviews artists as he plays one of their classic albums in its entirety. New Order's Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert go through Power, Corruption & Lies with him 20/08/23. The Edge from U2, Jim Kerr from Simple Minds, Joe Elliott Def Leppard and more, along with the often forgotten Lloyd Cole and The The - a big part of my mid to late 80s teenage years. I tried to post this earlier but don't know what happened, apologies if it's replication. Hopefully you'll like it. Appreciate your content, thanks
One of my favorite from Philomena...
"We have the right to bear arms...but bears dont have arms, do they..."
The actress is Diane Morgan, and the series was written by Charlie Brooker!
Cunk is a character by Diane Morgan, she is known for 'Black Mirror' amongst other things.
As for a music artist, I suggest, 'The Sisters of Mercy' and their 1987 album 'Floodland', I recommend a more recent version of it which includes the tracks, 'Colours', 'Torch' and 'Neverland (Full)', it's probably different to what you might be used to, but I think that you might like it.
Not quite - Philomena Cunk 1st appeared on Charlie Brooker's weekly wipe, along with Barry Shitpeas. Charlie wrote Black Mirror, Diane had nothing to do with it
Watch the BBC Shakespeare collection. It's got all the best British actors of the 70s. Or "I, Claudius" is also 🔥🔥🔥
How she delivers that dialogue deadpan deserves an Oscar.
She has done a few series, they are genius. You need to watch the full episodes to really appreciate them, the writing and delivery are so good.
Diane Morgan is briilliant as Philomena. The interviewees knew it was a comedy program, but didn't know what she's ask them
I love Diane Morgan as Philomena Cunk. Her stoic delivery and feigned cluelessness is just the best.
I love Philomena Cunk, you have to watch more of her. She is just amazing in asking 'stupid' question showing the contradiction in culture, language, ...
You need to watch some of her full videos. These short clips are funny, but no comparison to a "real", full Cunk interview. That will leave you slightly dazed, lol.
All the specialists, interviewed by Cunk, (Diane Morgan) know it's a comedy, but have no prior knowledge of the questions, and are simply asked to respond as they see fit. Cunk is a joyous creation.
Absolutely more Philomena! That was hilarious!
Mandy is the series I was trying to remember. It's hilarious! Her real name is Diane Morgan.
Philomi Cunk Is a character created by Charlie Brooker. The same chap wrote the Black Mirror series. She had a male counterpart called Barry Shitpeas. Charlie, as I like to call him is very good. Seems like a great bloke though I have never met him.
I know everybody has somewhat explained Diane Morgan is the actress, and in this video, she displays her great talant with a sincere breakdown when they're talking about the bombs. I believe her greatest skill is having almost completely blank eyes, like nothing's going on, yet in reality, her mind is working a million miles an hour. Diane is so brilliant that it's almost difficult to see her in her real personality, Philomena is simply a masterpiece of a character.
Diane is part of a comedy troop that has been making "mockumentaries" for almost 10 years. priceless!
Loving all of your vids, just have the humour and perfect break down of it all....I would suggest Ultravox as a chance....some very good stuff.....if I can dig out some more suggestions Cunk would be great but feeling a tad spoiled here 👍👍leave the Chris Morris stuff for a while maybe though I imagine you would like it....
She's thanks to Charlie Brooker (Black Mirror). He had shows 'Weekly Wipe', 'Screen Wipe' & 'News Wipe' featuring Philomena Cunk & Barry Shitpeas. Everything Brooker does is hilarious.
Diane Morgan, she was also in After Life with Ricky Gervais, Cunk on Britain is a good one.
For movies based on Shakespeare plays, Kenneth Branagh's Henry V, and A Midsummer Night's Dream (1935 film) with Cagney and Mickey Rooney.
Her real name is Diane Morgan.
The people being interviewed are only told that it's satire but they have no idea what's going to happen.
She's an amazing actress and she has me in stitches.
Brian Cox said that he was crying with laughter while she kept a perfectly straight face. He's a terrible giggler.
It's worth watching whole episodes.
✌️❤️🇬🇧
@user-tn8uu2cu8g sorry, struggling to find any relevance to the video topic.
In any case I don't pray to any non existent figment of the imagination of an illiterate goat herder who lived in a desert and fucked a 9 year old girl.
This was fun! I've never heard of Philomena before and will give her a look.
8:48 I agree. The play on words are so simple yet needs some rudimentary understanding. I love it. And that is coming from a Man intact... so to speak. If I got the snip by my own choice, I don't think I could be truly "abeam" with myself... if you get my "drift". If my "forepeak" was untethered, then I would no longer have a "Forecastle", which would make me "forestay" and "forehold" any subsequent surgery. I could no longer stand on the "foredeck" without my long term crew "members" making fun of my "fore-and-aft rig"! 🙃
Possibly, jang on to The Day Job, just in case.....(I'm not foreshadowing)...
Love me some Cunk! Great channel.
@No Protocol Philomena Kunk as far as I’m aware, first appeared as a character (along with Barry Shitpeas, I kid ye not), on a TV show called Weekly Wipe, a humorous look at current affairs written by the brilliant Charlie Brooker, the guy behind Black Mirror. She then went to go onto her Kunk On, series. Not sure if Charlie was involved there or not. The actress is Diane Morgan. Keep an eye out, she’s pretty decent.
The "Titan 1 C" sketch was one of my favourites.
Cunk on Earth is one of the greatest shows ever. Every episode features a particular song. I do not know why.
The character is Philomena, played brilliantly by actress Diane Morgan. full episodes are very, very good indeed. She is backed by a team of very smart writers and many of the questions she poses are not as stupid as at first they might seem. some are brilliant critiques wrapped as questions, others are serious questions in the philosophical, culture and psychological fields..
The interviewees are told it's a comedy sketch but have no prior knowledge of questions etc.
Al Murray is a History graduate from Oxford University who wrestles a lot of history into his Pub Landlord character.
Joy Div' were not post punk they were bang in punk, lol.
"some are brilliant critiques wrapped as questions, others are serious questions in the philosophical, culture and psychological fields.." Don't disagree, but some is a key word here. Some of them are are just hilariously stupid.
@@hkpew Absolutely so, but were it not so it wouldn't be comedy and satire, no?
Not sure if you already did it, but: George Carlin - Shell Shock is a real classic, not his funniest, but definitely hit home for me !
I come here for the intelligent commentary. The soothing voice is an added bonus ^_^
Ooh, impressed by the New Order and Joy Division shout-outs near the end! Demonstrating yet again she is a lady of discerning taste. She asked for some further recommendations of UK bands/artists from the late 70's/early 80's. Damn, where to start? Hmm. How about mostly staying away from the obvious, like The Sex Pistols, The Cure, The Clash, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Elvis Costello, The Police, Wire, Echo & The Bunnymen, and The Buzzcocks. Though they are amazing. So, let's cross a spectrum of sounds with song selections from the arguably obscure to the still vital & timeless (yet ironically Time seems to forget). Here goes, in no particular order...
The Fall - Oh! Brother
The Soft Boys - I Wanna Destroy You
Swell Maps - Lets Build A Car
Gang of Four - At Home He's A Tourist
The English Beat - Mirror In A Bathroom
The English Beat - Save It For Later
Haircut 100 - Love Plus One
The Slits - Typical Girls
The Selecter - Too Much Pressure
The Specials - Ghost Town
Public Image Ltd. - Public Image
The Mekons - Where Were You
The Adverts - One Chord Wonders [Radio Edit]
Sham 69 - (There's Gonna Be A) Borstal Breakout
999 - Homicide
Alien Sex Fiend - Ignore The Machine
The Psycheledic Furs - Mr. Jones [original Album version]
General Public - Tenderness
Big Country - In A Big Country
The Pretenders - The Wait [note: yes, Chrissie Hynde is American, but the rest of her original bandmaters were Brits, and the band was based in the UK]
Delta 5 - Mind Your Own Business
The Raincoats - Lola (cover of The Kings original)
Siouxsie & The Banshees - Dazzle (...okay, yeah, I snuck a Siouxsie & The Banshees song in here after all. Sue me).
Soft Cell - Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go [Extended Version]
A Flock Of Seagulls - Space Age Love Song
Cocteau Twins - Lorelie
Greetings from Scotland! Diane Morgan (Philomena Cunk) is so brilliant at portraying an idiot interviewer who asks crazy (funny!) questions to "experts" And oh boy, does she do it well! Brilliant!
Binging on Cunk is fun! The one on "Time" is pretty funny.
4:20 "There are still Dicks out there" almost killed me 😂
Also as far as I'm aware the guests know she's going to toy with them but I don't think they know what she will actually ask and she improvises a lot.
I would love to see more, the full episodes are great. I'll subscribe in hopes for more and because you seem cool.
Depech Mode are an early 80’s band. You probably already know about them though.
really? the clipper got you? my favourite was clearly "in the christmas truce nations came together to show that even in a time of peace men will find a way to try to beat each other" im paraphrasing it was almost 60 seconds ago i cant remember the exact wording.
I always recommend The Cure.
Excellent choice
Philomena is great, she came out of Screenwipe with Charlie Brooker originally and got her own spin off 😂
Diane Morgan is the name of the actress who plays Cunk, and it is a role totally, she is actually a really clever comedian, her dead pan delivery is perfect. The writing is lead by Charlie Brooker who is also a very clever writer. There are a lot of clever references and social commentary through out all the Cunk shows and they are spot on with the history. Even that 3 wisemen question comes from the fact that some scholars have disputed or In some cases entertained the idea that there may have been more or less, although not my area of expertise.
I highly recommend watching a full series, because while these short compilations are quite funny, watching with proper context (in terms of hearing and seeing the setups to the jokes) is so much better.
Also needs to be pointed out, they're way of talking to experts is much better than most other parody documentaries, the people know it's a comedy documentary, they also know the show respects the history, they just don't know what Cunk will do or say/ask. So while a few can get annoyed (I take it more to be, it's not their type of humour) no one really gets angry or feel like they are being made fun of.
The guy you asked about is Jay Rayner.
That was fantastic. The British are hilarious to me.
I really love that painting!
Diane Morgan brilliantly played a caricature with grace ,great wind up ,New Order ,been too there gigs and have all records ,big fan when they where Joy Division, they came from factory records which they part owned ,just listen love will tear us apart.
It was a toss-up who was more fun to watch: Diane Morgan's "Philomena Cunk" or you. Your expressions were priceless. Thank you.
It's the actress Diane Morgan. She is from Bolton in Lancashire.
Diane Morgan is playing a character she also did a comedy series called Mandy this is also a niche kind of comedy but it hits my buttons.
Diane Morgan is the actress, Philomena Cunk is the character. Written by Charlie Brooker (also created Black Mirror)
Experts are real, and in season 1 completely unprepared for what was happening. That architecture expert lost his temper properly, according to an interview
Best thing from the first season: We might never have known about the details of the battle of Hastings, but “Luckily, a bystander took a tapestry”
Amelia from chicken shop dates sounds posh. Philomena Cunk sounds northern.
IF you like Amelia from Chicken shop date, she did Taskmaster New Year Treat a year ago!
She first appeared on Charlie Brookers Screenwipe and Newswipe, he's the creator of Black Mirror. I recommend that show if you haven't seen any, very observant and satirical.
Your sense of humor is quite infectious.
Jay Rayner is the masterchef judge
Son of Claire, agony aunt.
Your manner of speech is so formal 😂
Full episodes of cunk on Britain are definitely worth a watch, also cunk on America is good for a laugh.
@user-tn8uu2cu8g where did you witness the bear
Jay Rayner is the UK Masterchef judge.
Diane Morgan, her standup is quite good too.
I am convinced she is parodying Lucy Worsley, a genuine historian. She has several series and is brilliant in all of them.
My favorite bit is when she describes Die Hard as a Christmas story.
If you haven't done more cunk.. you should watch it all.. the Shakespeare one is great
Not necessarily a big New Order fan, but do really like that song, 'Leave Me Alone' too.
Find a bit of sea thats going up kills me!
Nah "Played by the letter H" really got me man.
