I bought an AwayDays football shirt on an online auction. Whichever shirt I bought, I had to visit the team in real life!
So... I bought a return ticket to Mexico City to watch Club America in the Azteca Stadium!

I remember a few seasons ago
watching
49ERS V Raiders
In the N.F.L
It was a Monday night game in
North America it was
Monday in to Tuesday for us in
the U.K. that game was in
The Estadio Azteca I remember the Stadium being absolutely packed out for that game.
Apparently Wrestling
Football & America football are all massive in Mexico
my understanding is in
Mexico Wrestling is the biggest sport.
One Football used to show one game per match round
in the U.K from Liga MX about
4 years ago now I think it was
but the time difference was horrific games tend to
Kick Off in Mexico @ 3AM our time & it was hard going watching Liga MX games at that time of day.
I do have a Club America
away shirt in my collection
I think it's the aaay shirt from
the same season as your
Club America home shirt.
Fantastic Vlog will watch this particular vlog many , many times.
This is the type of comet I would love to see more of but
like everything in life it comes down to £££££££ I guess & what you can afford to do.
Boca or River Plate hopefully some day Sam.
Keep Safe.
Dearest Sam! So happy I could spend a day with you! So looking forward to see you soon! #footyadventures 🇲🇽😎⚽️
This is bloody epic Sam. Your best ever travel vlog. Well done fella.
Said it a few times but remember begging to get into East Fife? You've come a long way. Top man
Thanks Ross! I always love that you bring up East Fife in these moments. I'm still yet to see a game there though to be fair haha. Will have to see to that soon.
Hope you're all good! Clyde having a mare just now!
He has to go against forfar
I've been watching your videos since 2020 and I'm so happy you came to Mexico and watched my team, Viva Mexico cabrones 🇲🇽
I have been watching Liga MX ever since I was a child and I like all the respective teams from the top till bottom tiers of the system but Monterrey is my beloved Mexican team, good friend Sam!!!I am extremely so happy to see you visiting Mexico and watching a Liga MX match and long live to you and the Mexican football, good friend Sam!!!🏋♂️🇲🇽
Hope you were able to eat as much Mexican food as possible during your trip. Mexican food is truly one of the best!
Also Liga mx has some beautiful stadiums and wonderful people! Can’t wait to see you for an MLS game one day (Hopefully St.Louis) Welcome to Concacaf football!
Great video as always!
I remember how distasteful the Club America fans were in 2015 v Montreal for the CONCACAF Champions League and will cheer for any other Liga MX team over them now haha.
Portales who just signed with Dundee played with Atlante 🇲🇽
Absolutely love these videos when you travel abroad and show us around then go to the game mate pure class, some of the best content on RUclips!
My childhood club! It’s always amazing to see people from all over the world know about us. Cheers!
Friendship from Scotland
to Club America amazing club
best known Mexican club outside of Mexico.
I had to laugh out loud when you drank that Michelada because I had to think of an episode of Bald and Bankrupt with Simon Wilson and Harald Baldr when they were trying Micheladas together. 😂😂😂
Great vlog Sam, loved it ! 👍🏻
The Azteca looks amazing under the floodlights. 1986 is the first World Cup I remember, and I think all the matches were played during daylight hours in Mexico because of the time difference with the large TV audience in Europe, and I'm guessing we probably won't get to see any matches under the floodlights in the next World Cup which is a bit of a shame.
Wow. I love when people do awaydays in Europe but it’s easy and it’s all kind of similar. This deserves a lot of respect. I’d love to see you venture further into South America or the US. Good stuff man.
I attended the World Cup in '86 and well remember both the quarter-final v Argentina and the Final. I met fans of PUMAS UNAM, one of them came over to London in 89 and I took him to watch my team West Ham v Plymouth Argyle. This was before the old South Bank was demolished in 93 when Upton Park was the most compact ground in the country. West Ham won 3-2 and PUMAS fan became a West Ham fan and, for my part, I support PUMAS. I also have soft spots for Cruz Azul, Puebla and Zacatapec.
I like your videos because I'm a romantic when it comes to football. West Ham United is much changed since moving to the London Stadium ⚒️
I've been following your videos for 2 years. I really like your videos of Scottish and English football. Thank you very much for coming to Mexico and getting to know our football, welcome to Mexico.
Club America #1🇲🇽
Terrific video Sam, I always watch your videos whether they are in filmed in the UK or the other side of the world and am amazed by your commitment to the cause - but this was idfferent level ! There's going the extra mile ... and then there's this ... 😮 Top man !
That was really great thanks ,so injoyed it from watching this then going to watch my team the Cove its a different world all your work is really appreciated 👍
Thanks mate! Lots of variety in the teams I’ve visited since starting RUclips. Lots more to come in December, thanks again for watching 🙌🏼🎥
Brilliant vlog Sam. I wonder if other major cities do football tours? If they don't, they should - it's a great idea.
An amazing journey, great vlog and cool to see the JDT shirt behind you. I'll be heading back to Johor in 3 weeks. And after your video I also will be going over to Singapore to see the Tampines Hub
What a vlog Sam outstanding effort and dedication to travel so far for football. Loved this video
You're a legend.
What an epic video.
Amazing stuff.
This is one of your best vids you've released. Not going to lie. It's a fantastic concept and your guide as top notch. More American content please.
Great video mate! I went to watch a match at Cancún fc last season when on holiday in Mexico. They play in the equivalent of the English and Scottish championship. The standard was honestly as bad as step six in English non league but it was a great and unique experience. That was the only team for a good 500km that shows how big Mexico is.
My 2 fave RUclipsrs linking up 🤝 class
Incredible video keep up the amazing work
Good to see you went to Mexico. Next time, stay longer and explore the many other teams. A weekend has games Fri-Sun and midweek the second division play. Easy to get around between the cities as well in the central valley (central belt equivalent) 😃
I love watching your videos. You're so passionate about football.
Look at you now !wawwww!amazing, well done
One of your best videos, love a challenge like this. 👏
Great video as always, Sam
I’m heading to Faroe Islands on Thursday. Going to watch B68 Toftir v Tvøroyrar Bóltfelag. The match is at Svangaskarði, Toftir, which is where Scotland infamously drew 2-2 with the Faroe Islands in Euro 2004 qualifying.
Don’t ask me to pronounce the Faroese names. Not a clue 😂
17:07 - lol. i'm picturing this "Tony Maradona" as a kind of portly, stubble wearing builder from Stoke-on-trent, with the head & hair of Diego. Propping up the bar at his local pub, Fosters in hand. Telling the barmaid that he used to play professional football to try and impress her.
HH Brilliant Video really enjoyed all ur Video's what I missed was the Capacity of the ground u were at + all the Stadiums thanks keep doing what ur doing hhktf
Respect, as a Canadian I’ve done many cross Atlantic journeys for 1 or 2 days to watch a match. Was able to cross off Azteca bucket list when my club went to play Club America and tied to win on aggregate (unforgettable 2 days trip) Most recently Celtic Rangers but also to Argentina and to France, nothing better than an in and out away day. Just recently decided to start filming my adventures using you as an inspiration. I love Scottish Footy and have been following you for a while now, love your channel and hope to bump into you at a game some day
Great video well done on ticking off Mexico 👍
I visited these 3 stadiums and watched games in 2007. If having time, visiting Toluca is recommendable, as it is not far from the capital and the stadium is also used for World Cup.
Great vid as always Sam. Absolute grail of a stadium for me to visit.
I like the Loas shirt but would be better if it was one from over the border.
Exiled Manc here in Vietnam :)
Your video are really good well done they are so informative
Nice of away days
Mexico is a nice country🇲🇽
You do like cute Latinas Sam 😮
Club America is a nice team :)
I never thought Club America would be here in his Channel this is the best video now
Great video!
2 words: Wow! Amazing!!
Would love him to get Sam into classic kits for an episode of shirt hunting @awaydays
Costa Rica is great for football too. Go to Saprissa.
Im based in Mexico and go to footie alot including The Azteca.
But wifes family are pumas fans.
Glad you got to experience it
Great video, you need to do Argentina now,Boca or River, that would be epic!!!
Class idea 💡
Wow! Epic adventure. Will you be coming to the US some time?
Loved the video , I've been to Mexico a few times on holiday but that was a side I hadn't seen before . The Mexican people are amazing , so friendly and welcoming. Keep up the great content 👍🏻🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽
The collab we didn't know we needed
Damn. Wanted to catch you in CDMX. Oh well...
Ah now this is class
Brilliant video Sam, really interesting. Boca Juniors next please. Probably the most interesting video you have done.
This must have set you back a bit but I can imagine it was worth it when you'll look back on it in future. Great vid Sam
Yessss!!!!
That shirt is a banger 🔥
You should visit Azteca Stadium when its USA vs Mexico…absolutely nuts! Or maybe Chivas vs america.
Great video
Ah the legend that is Tony Maradona
Come on, I was dead-tired when that happened. Could have been way worse. At least, I didn't call him Stefan Kuntz or David James.
Welcome to North America my friend! Trip to the US in your future?
Dude experiencing daylight robbery against club León. That's club America for you my friend
Ha...you are not having much luck with the weather. I once went to a club america game v toluca in the azteca 20 years ago...i have 4 photos from that day as my very cheap disposable camera didn't work but I did manage to find highlights on you tube 3 years ago...so I could relive it. It was a dry, sunny day and I could feel the cool air, and I remember the buzz of hooters. I got such a high observing the pitch from the upper tier, thinking about the legendary World Cup moments that took place here. I don't think you mentioned the altitude of Mexico City but it is high up there. I think the long jump record that was set by Bob beamon in the 1968 Mexico Olympics ( not at the azteca) stood until 2010 or so. I also managed to watch club america play, by chance, the 2nd leg of the copa sudamericana final in 2007 in Racing club's stadium in Buenos Aires versus the Arsenal de Sarandi...club america had won the 1st leg in the azteca, and scored first in Argentina, but small Arsenal managed to score at the death to win the Cup. That was a dramatic game! Anyway, that's my experience of Club America. I am from Scotland too...and try to take in the occasional game while travelling. Good to see your adventurous spirit! Going all that way for 1 game is mad!!! Both the games I went to were by chance on long backpacking trips through Central America and don't america respectively ...and in those days...pre Internet.. you just had to hope there was a home game on when you were there. Cheers for the footage. Brings back rhe experience! 👏
Never thought I’d hear a corrido be played on your channel.
My favourite character was the albino German.
Some bond villain shit
before you said i knew that fella was German lol
Youll have to make it to the States for an MLS match next time you’re over seas
Mate, enjoy my country, although Mexican football is not at its finest right now, there's loads to enjoy, happy to help if needed, consider me a Brit-to-Mexican translator, I've been living in the UK for nearly 9 years!
Hotel looks like something out of the Backrooms.
The crossover potential
Mexico hopefully got your appetite for football in the Americas! Hopefully la bombanera soon for boca vs River, Valez or Rosario central!
You should get in touch with Jordan Florit and go see a match in Venezuela.
Madness,💪
The Azteca Stadium looks quite nice but it’s hardly Auchinleck is it? 😉
Hugo Sanchez was an excellent player.
You have to come watch Chivas in Guadalajara when you have a chance the actual biggest club in Mexico
An amazing video, kudos to you. Out of curiosity, which goal was the hand of God, your end or the opposite?
Tony Maradona … 😂👏🏼😂👏🏼😂
22:27 liga Mx does not seem like a family environment. Too many stories of fights and people dying. I guess it’s relative.
For reference watch the footage of Querétaro-Atlas riot last season.
brilliant video, would be amazing if you and ellis went on a trip together
VAMOSSSS AMMMMERIIICCCCAAAAAAA
Manz said he didn’t want to go to the Caribbean but flu to Mexico instead can’t make this up. Next time you come back this side of the world Sam come to Jamaicaour league is the best in the Caribbean and our league need a bit of international publicity
❤
Brilliant vid mate. These world travel vids your doing is becoming pretty special. If ya get the chance, do the Hong Kong Premier League in the future 👍🏻
Didn't fancy a flight down to Heathrow from Glasgow and transferring?
All the way to Mexico but you still haven't done the Liverpool memorial run, which, I've been asking you to do for the last 2 years :/
Was in Mexico City and the Azteca for an American Football game. What a mental stadium it is. Not the best place I have ever been I have to be honest
Thats close to mls but you need to come to Columbus
Why was the attendance so low?
Personally i like estadio Akron (chivas Stadium) it looks more modern and cool
Tell Ellis Dragonite is asking after him(twitch) he’ll know 👌
What hotel was that
Viva Mexico 🇲🇽
You should have flown to LHR
I was wondering why Sam didn't do that, possibly connecting onto AeroMexico would be difficult as they are in the same Alliance (SkyTeam) as Virgin Atlantic so there is little co-operation between them and BA who would have the Scotland - London leg. I think the only one-stop option would be Scotland - Amsterdam- Mexico with KLM or Scotland - PAris - Mexico with AirFrance
Carbon footprint 🤔What the hell, football is way more important than the planet😁
Yo como manzana. Yo hablo Espanol.
Isn't the Azteca being renovated at the moment for the 2026 WC? My first memories of the Azteca was from watching the 1970 WC and the great Brazilian side that lifted the trophy.
Sam chatted to a guy from Egypt so that should be Sam's next location
Can you do a video about cruz azul
One of Mexico’s most famous sportsman is ginger and fair skinned (Canelo Álvarez) so you maybe didn’t stand out as much as you thought! 😅
Turdy Maradona?
Don’t know what was stranger that game of football or the German bloke you befriended.
Go Chivas
