Hello Thomas. I just wanted to say that I really enjoy these videos you produce and really like how you present the car. Entertaining, informative and detailed. Keep up the good work. Greetings from Estonia.
Both the scenery and the car are just beautiful. Great video. When my current f30 gets old enough (maybe in 4-5 years), I will either buy this or the future X3. But this just looks awesome.
Hey Thomas! Forgot to mention... One positive is they no longer have the "broken" line at the front of the hood at the headlight/grill area. Remember we were discussing that recently :) Ahhh details details eh. Ciao!
Hi Thomas, first of all, congrats to your reviews. I love them. Related to the new X1 I'm very interested in the driver assistant systems. How does the lane assist work? Does it keep you in the mid of the lane? Which cars do have an active line assist which keeps the car in the mid of the lane? Thanks.
This is great news. The current X1 is nice, but looks more like a wagon than a crossover SAV/SUV. However, this new X1 has all the great proportions from any angles, and it is about 2 inches taller, making it looking like a crossover now, more like the X3, which I am driving. I have the M-Sport 35i, it is absolutely a blast to drive every time. However, I have also learned that the new X1 will lose its more potent 35i engine in the name of getting more efficiency with the base engine, which is what most buyers want these days. I bet it should achieve 34 mpg on freeway easy even in AWD form. My wife will replace her Mini Cooper S in about two years as she says, this X1 looks perfect for her and me.
Ciao Thomas. Mixed feelings here...my wife owns an X1 X-Drive with the N20 gasoline engine (2 litre 4cyl 241HP) and it's proven to be an excellent car in both city and long distance driving. It's fitted with the wonderful ZF 8 spd auto transmission that gets great reviews from all of you journalist types. The new styling is very nice I admit. I do "worry" about the loss of the bmw DNA as you say with the move to mini based fwd and the Japanese gearbox (Aisin). Strange looking shift lever in the new X1. Will you soon have a chance to drive this model? I'd like to hear your opinion after you've had the experience to take it on the road. Thanks!
guys if BMW didnt adapt to the market and created only manual rear-wheel drive cars and went bankrupt, you all would say "they should've adapted and created some FWD cars to cut costs" and now BMW does that to be able to keep on producing purist cars, and you guys still criticize. It's called adapting to the market. I am happy BMW is doing this so it can be producing RWD manual cars for those of us that like driving.
theokan89 Not sure who you mean but from my comment, I think it became clear that the target group of this model most likely wont care about the FWD/RWD discussion
+thoravian BMW is doing just fine with rwd models. They don't need to go fwd to keep making rwd cars. They just decided that people in this segment don't care and they can keep costs lower, increasing profits. It's not a huge deal for a utility vehicle.
ChAbAr yeah it is, as I said it starts with front-wheel drive but a lot of BMW customers pick higher engines and trim levels anyway that include the AWD
How far do the rear seats go to accommodate very tall passengers? Since most of the time, no luggage is being carried in the car, can't the seats go all the way back to get a limousine-like rear leg space? Space like in the new Sokda Superb for instance. has BMW thought about offering this concept?
Also, why can't BMW (and other car manufacturers) have rear seats that go up and down to open up more headroom for really tall passengers? The thigh support may be a little lower but better than getting their heads banged up against the roof of the car. This sort of rear seat versatility/adjust ability can easily convert the X-1 to a limousine when needed, as most of the time, the boot is empty!!

Jok Ker Really appreciated, best wishes back to Tallin (I guess? ;)

PrimorisOrdo appreciated!
Did I already say Thomas, that I LOVE your reviews?!?
YM M cant say that often enough :)
It looks much better. Can't wait until you get to do a full review.
Bob P Thanks, looking forward to it as well!

Mario Dalla Riva Good point :) Interesting that they removed it exactly with this car :)
It looks much better than the predesessor! Cheers DrDuu
DrDuu think so too!
Much of an improvement, this time they've got the proportions right compared to the oddly shaped predecessor.

+MkHlzhr Good question. I ll try to get one for next year

Mario Dalla Riva Thanks Mario! I ll try to get one as soon as its available
So, after 2 years i guess the BMW DNA, Japanese gearbox and strange lever has been discussed plenty. It turned out good right? :P
Where was this shot? Looks really good. Would love to visit that place.
When can we expect a complete review of the new X1? It's a very interesting car for a modern active lifestyle.
+mlykke Hey, i ll try to get the new X1 for next year for the full driving review
+Autogefühl That's great. Thanks for the reply and keep up the great reviews. :)

When to expect a full review of the new BMW X1?
Greetings from Portugal!
+Tigra PT hey! In about a month :) Next BMW is 7-Series, just arrived
Xdrive is still optional and most beamer enthusiasts would pick that drive system.
ChAbAr yeah it is, as I said it starts with front-wheel drive but a lot of BMW customers pick higher engines and trim levels anyway that include the AWD

Milan Monteiro Good point. I will investigate that in our full review when we get the car for that.

kommt noch ein ausführlicher Test?
+makaveli9876 Hi, ich versuche einen X1 fürs Frühjahr zu bekommen!
bet the old one drives better tho.. unless u have Xdrive
This BMW X1 looks much better than previous generation which looks like clown shoe on wheels
+Mr11ESSE111 indeed! haha
What a shame, even a premium brand like BMW is going for FWD nowadays, in the future you'll probably need to get a Ferrari if you want a RWD...
