  • How to install a radio in a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 and other similar models. Skipping the wiring harness and slicing the wires. A diagram of all the wires and which wires to connect. Easy step by step process. For beginners with no experiencce. The only thing I didn't show was each and every speaker wire being connected. Which is simple so follow my diagram picture with your new stereo's wiring harness. Example, right rear - to blue/white striped wire... etc
I post new videos on Thursdays~!

Thank you very much. Your video was extremely helpful. Just picked up a truck that had the radial stolen out of it and all they left me with was the bear wires inside the - and for the life of me, I could not find the 12 V constant. I never thought it would be that little pink wire.

Can people get over the fact that she cut her harness, it’s her rig. The rig I bought had the radio stolen in it and this vid helped a ton. If y’all want to use a harness go ahead, but stop wasting her time with these useless comments. She did this to help folks like me out

Please buy a separate harness so you don't have to cut the factory harness if you do this. Also never use wire nuts, crimping or soldering is the way to go if you want a nicer install that will last

The minute I saw the wire nuts I started laughing, dead wiring police are going to wake from the grave and clickedy click share their brilliance. The joke that came to mind was what a remarkable power you have to force people to butcher their wiring harness and use wire nuts against their will.
Thank you very much for your help. You saved me a LOT of time and hassle. It is hilarious having bluetooth, nav, back-up cam and a big screen hacked into the dash of a 2001 2500 cummins, dash disintegrated 21 years ago.

Not sure HOW your wiring went so easy and you had sound right off the bat! I've been installing stereos, amps and speakers since I was 17 back in the 70's and 99% of my installs go as simple as yours did but NOT this 2000 Durango I'm doing now! Oh, and I've NEVER used wire nuts, only butt connectors yet you gave me an idea! Now I might start using wire nuts for temporary hookups until I confirm everything is working as it should, THEN remove them and use a more permanent connector. This way, if I have to disconnect something, I don't have to re-cut any wires. Anyway, I've found probably 10-15 DIFFERENT wiring diagrams for 2000 Dodges online and NONE have the same color wires my friend's has! This was the FIRST car stereo EVER that I've installed and had NO SOUND but the stereo came on. So I googled it and found TONS of other people with the same problem. It seems the factory harness from the back of the radio mostly run to the factory amp, THEN to your speakers! THIS is why nobody gets sound. So, what I'm thinking I'm going to try next is run speaker wires from the new Alpine down to the harness from the factory amp and see if I can get sound from there! Yes, I'll probably have to cut the wires from the harness, but it will never be used again so that doesn't hurt anything. I'm eventually going to install an aftermarket amp in this Durango but for now the owner just wants better sound with the new deck and 4 new door speakers. Again, I was SHOCKED that you got sound from your stereo after the FIRST try! That truck must NOT have a factory amp!

So like me I couldn’t use the adapter kit I had to sort out the actual wires to the doors as I went with a higher end Infinity component system, so I rang them out 1 by 1 as to gain 2 pairs to each door that I doubled up because the single wire gauge was to small for single wire wattage, I abandoned the wires to the rear speakers from front door and ran the direct to amp, I drilled and placed tweeters up high in rear pillar next to belt sling for better sound, and lay off her! Not everyone has a solder gun and shrink tube and knows how to use it, I had every bit of 8 hours installing and well over 1K in components and Ive seen the shitty jobs those butchers do at most Stereo Stores so give har a break for trying and doing a fine job!

Never use wire nuts in an automobile! The vibration can cause them to loosen and then you just have another problem. Either use soldering and heat shrink tube to secure any wire splicing. Also acceptable are crimp connectors that can be heated to shrink the insulation.

When you turned the key on then and turned the radio on and said something about that’s what was wrong you were referring to the light green wire in which you didn’t really mention what issue you had off screen nor did you explain after the fact or show up close how you resolved the issue. The light green wire needs to be connected to the acc red white wire in order to get sound. So as someone has already mentioned this is how NOT TO do an install!! You never wanna cut your factory harness out, that's why they make harness adapters that hold into your factory harness and then you wire up your head unit to that harness, again NEVER cut the factory harness unless its absolutely necessary to do so cause your car was made in the 60s or 70s maybe even 80s and there is no adapter harness available for your type vehicle. Also DO NOT use wire caps, use either the female crimp type connectors or use heat shrink, pros will use soldering and heat shrink. If you use the adapter harness you will not have to worry about the amp power wire etc unless running an amp but I always run my own amp turn on wire anyway. But if you do not use adapter harness you will need to run the amp turn on wire to the memory power wire cause that wire is basically the blue wire that comes on most after market head units etc.

if your head unit has an amp turn-on wire, put it there. use ignition hot ONLY if your head unit does not have a +12v amp turn on lead.

You probably have a broken wire or a bad connection Either where you crimp the wires together or on the speaker side the other possibility is you may just have a blown /damaged speaker
